Yip 👍 Ive heard loads of different performances of this song and each time the solo is always slightly different although always great . But this version for me is the best ever
David Gilmour plugs his soul into his amp . The way he holds a note and plays with emotion is mesmerising . One epic concert was on a massive floating stage in Venice 1989 . You should check out their early stuff like "Echoes" live at Pompei from 1972 . No audience just them and the crew in the Roman amphitheater .
The genius of the guitar solo is NOT only in its technicality (which is stunning).. but it COMPLETELY replaces the vocals/lyrics in order to communicate the struggle in this "comfortably numb" state ..that solo contains screams of help and despair with some moments of hope... Hi guys I think you're referring to Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii fimed in the amphitheatre with no audience in 1972, 45 years later Dave Gilmour played Pompeii again this time with an audience well worth checking out Love your reactions cheers Jim, Surrey, UK
Back in 1994 I lived in Earls Court. The arena where The Floyd played was just at the top of my street. I got tickets to go and see Pink Floyd on four of their fifteen nights. I know it's almost thirty years ago but those shows were the best that I've ever seen and guys I've seen some fantastic gigs. At that time The Division Bell tour utilised the biggest light show and the biggest sound system hitherto assembled for a live gig. The Comfortably Numb video really brought back some great memories. More Floyd please guys, maybe Wish You Here or Run Like Hell.
I'm 62 years old now and I've been to many, many concerts over the years! I was in Foxboro MA for this concert and have to say it is definitely the best concert I've ever seen! THE WHOLE CONCERT IS FANTASTIC!
I love how utterly exhausted both of you look by the end of that! Honestly an epic performance. If you haven’t already, please react to David Gilmour Shine On You Crazy Diamond live at Pompeii. It’s stunning.
@@ChrisReadUK For me Shine on just tops Comfortably. I discovered the Floyd as a teen in the mid 70's. It was my chill out music long before that was a social thing. Several headphones gave up their lives over the decades.
I love how dude on the left is listening with his eyes closed, while dude on the right is staring at the light show/performance. Floyd gives you the absolute best of both worlds.
Kinda there with the facts Daniel. They did have extremely distracting & blinding light shows to begin with, because they were rather shy & reserved, but they were still seen. The lights were just a distraction so the band weren't the main focus. And they were the 1st band to play in an ancient ruins Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, in almost 2000 years. And they basically played it to the ghosts of Pompeii, empty of any human audience.

I was at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California when I saw this performed. That guitar solo at the end with the glittery lights going around in a circle and lasers up above put you into a euphoric state that I never experienced again! Greatest single performance ever!
I worked for David and his family at this time, I come from Surrey. U.K. I was at this concert. No one like him, The Best.. He is the sweetest man too. Love to you guys from Melbourne. Au.
The whole Pulse concert is thrilling to watch and to listen to. I suggest checking out 'Sorrow' from Pulse next. It's an underrated (in my view) Pink Floyd song since it is an album cut, but I like that guitar solo just as much, if not slightly better than 'Comfortably Numb.' The whole band is on fire on 'Sorrow.'
It's like listening to a couple of old geezers down the pub rattling on with passion, half-remembered facts and anecdotes about the good old days, 'when proper musicians played proper music, none of yer modern rubbish'. I love Pink Floyd and this is arguably one their finest moments and you guys are fun.
I was there. I had a girl who had recently met in Florida come over to visit me anxious for some extra entertainment. Can you imagine how more keen she became when I told her I had an extra almost front-row ticket to see Floyd only a couple of days later? I think she came at least 3 times before, during and after, and that was just the day of the concert. We were extremly spoiled for great concerts back then. I rarely had to wait more than a few weeks and travel more than 6 miles to see any band that was anything, including some American ones. Just a few short stops on the underground and a few back again. Living in London back in the day was progressive and other rock music heaven. Americans on the other hand often have to drive for miles, and this is to just get in and out of the car park. My American cousins had to often board flights, and book hotels, just to see a band of their choice.

I'm not sure it's the greatest Floyd song, I'm not even sure it's the greatest on The Wall album. Then again, it's hard to say which song is their greatest, as they wrote so many masterpieces. I guess it comes down to subjective taste. That live guitar solo though, it's definitely amongst the greatest of all-time! Arguably THE greatest. :)
When Daniel said at the start "where were you in 94", I was in the audience tripping off my head smoking joints along with a lot of people around me. What a nite!
@@samuelgeorge100 lol, I just walked across the Rd and jumped on the tube back to Wimbledon. A bloke in front of me came down from up north somewhere, dossed on a mates floor and had tickets for four consecutive nites lol
Saw them at Wembley Stadium, London in 1988 and, although they were small dots at the other end of the stadium, the sound system they'd fitted around the inside of the whole stadium was incredible. Before the concert started, they tested it with sounds of things like huge flights of heavy-engined planes, which was impressive. But not as impressive as when they played this as the final song...then came back on to do two more songs as an encore. There's a comment below from Shaun Byrne about 'Echoes live at Pompeii' which I have to agree is a special performance, very intimate and a musical masterpiece.
Great comment Tony, so pleased you mention the quad sound, as Floyd spared no expense to ensure the sound and light show was unforgettable (Britannia Row). I was fortunate to be there too and that sound was mind blowing as well as the ahead of its time lighting. Did you get to Earls Court for this show?
I was there too Tony... wasn't it something else.. My abiding memory in the stands at the halfway line was looking around the stadium and just seeing everyone in the audience singing.. 34 years ago but I still can remember that concert.. Keep on rocking man.
My brother used to own and run a convenience store in a quiet English provincial town. I was visiting him one day when this old guy came in wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. I looked up in disbelief and uttered "Err, You're Dave Gilmour!" "Yes I am" he replied. My brother asked how I knew who he was. Again, I replied, "He's Dave Gilmour!" "Yeah, I know who he is, he comes in each week to pay his newspaper bill" answered my brother. "But, how do you know him?" "It's Dave, fucking Gilmour, Pink fucking Floyd". "Oh, I never knew, I just wrote his name on his newspaper each morning" replied my brother. Dave Gilmour then uttered that he's gonna have to find a new paper shop where he's not known now.
I was there and the sad thing is that even back then they played through their Olympic stadium sized quadraphonic sound system. Even todays typical sound systems cannot replicate the true experience of being there. To say this performance was epic is an understatement.
when you saw them play live, that sound system made your chest and your bones resonate, the huge heartbeats, deep deep overtones and sound effects mixed in as part of the live album sets they played - I never saw a performance that left me feeling let down. I even got to see them perform The Wall at Earls Court .... never to be forgotten
Listening to this with you guys makes me so happy. You are both great people that can achieve so much with your kindness and honesty. I find it amazing that I can feel like I have friends that I can listen to music like this with.
The whole "Pulse" DVD is well worth watching/ listening to. Epic experience, especially if you can connect the player to a decent hi-fi. You want more live performances to react to? Try Texas' very own Stevie Ray Vaughan with "Texas Flood", live at "El Mocambo". That should give Spencer something to think about. 😀
What I love most about David Gilmour is how appropriate his guitar is to the music. He practically never imposes his musicianship on a song. It's always feels to me to be gently fitting. Comfortably Numb is the most I can remember him just playing the hell out of a song. And god bless him for it. Pulse was phenomenal. But, Delicate Sound of Thunder from around 1988 is my favorite live concert by Pink Floyd. It is hands down my favorite version of Wish You Were Here. I never could enjoy the album version the same way again. It's flawless.
This is the best guitar solo live ever from the most unreal concert in history. David Gilmore have different tone, he don't need lyrics when he play. Pink Floyd sent more people to the space from NASA.
seen them 5 times use to drive concerts into certain cities in canada they are top 5 and ive seen 1000 concerts in my life sure a few repeats but guys pink floyd changed my life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shout out to one of my favourite female vocalists Sam Brown for her epic backing vocals on this tour & her wonderful harmonising on the chorus. R.I.P Claudia Fontaine (the vocalist to the right of Sam).
I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know.
I've seen many great bands live, including The Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Rush + many others & i was at the concert just seen.. That concert was the greatest gig i have ever witnessed, not only because of the amazing light show & great performance but because it was Pink Floyd. As a life long Pink Floyd fan (i'm 55 yrs now) i am biased, however although all the other groups were fantastic in their own ways, they were just not Pink Floyd! 🏴🇬🇧
I am so jealous. At 23 I missed the opportunity, but I at least saw The Who live on 2016. I love the music, and I hope "everything old is new" brings it back. New music is good, but I wish the "old" style come back
@@SJ19_998 Hey, you got to see The Who 🇬🇧. Wow a great band & one with real heritage! Be honoured you got to see one of the greatest bands in the World! Yes, music today is not the same as yesteryear, in my opinion just not as good! Keep rockin'!! 👍🇬🇧
I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.
First rule: Never take your eyes off the performance. Pink Floyd is the Greatest Live performing band in recorded music history. Their concerts are not just a musical experience, it's a visual one. Pink Floyd doesn't want you focusing on them, they want you to focus on the experience, on the music. They want the event to be a visceral one for each and every fan there. They're lights are highly synchronized with the music to magnify and amplify the emotion in the music. You really need to react to Sorrow and Keep Talking. You should also check out the 2016 David Gilmour Live in Pompeii performances He's 70 and still shredding.
You're partly right about Floyd. Sorry to disagree with you. But I have to say the following very confidently. What Rammstein performs on stage is nothing but superior to any life band, this since nearly 3 decades. I (58 years old) love both bands very much, but I give Rammstein the leadership and Floyd the second, that way ahead of any other band that was and is on this planet.
You couldn't have put it any better you crazy diamond each performance they did always tells a story all there albums tell a story it was magnificent that second guitar solo I have all there cds in plastic wallets even got the old version of the wall when it was released on cd wish you was here division bell and animals even got lot of there old vinyls aswell
David Gilmour has been interviewed regarding The Pulse show and he said that the show is not about the music. If you want to listen to the music you could just listen to the CD. The show is all about the experience and the light show. And they are right. Back then in 1994 I couldn't afford a card for their show but I had the opportunity to watch and record the show when it was aired via "Premiere" in Germany (now called "Sky"). Every time I see that concert, I am fully exhausted afterwards only by listening and viewing it on the tv.
pink floyd are the best live band there ever was and will not be surpassed im 70 and i have seen them 5 times suggest the live pulse concert great gig in the sky and different comfortably numb as well as high hopes and the grand finish with i over i millions dollars worth of lights and effects run like hell also run like hell is the closer at david gilmore at Pompeii nlive complete with fire works these songs will blow you away

Where was I in 1994? I was at this concert as a gift for my 21st birthday 4th row earls court london. I also worked for a company that made the flashing LEDs for the side of the CD case to this live album.
This is, in my opinion, the best guitar solo that's ever been played. Others have commented on the music, but I'll take another perspective: This is also, in my opinion, the best lighting rig I've ever seen. It's truly awesome. Beautiful. It still looks stunning almost 30 years later. I was "playing around" with band lighting whilst at university at the time of this concert; we hired 8 heads of the type that are on the circular truss, and they cost us the vast majority of our budget for the gig. Pink Floyd had hundreds of them. The programming of all those moving lights to work in sync in 3D space (with the truss they're mounted on also moving) is awesome, given the levels of technology that were typically available at the time. I believe the bank of lights that are across the front of the stage are 250W each per bulb. That's 150 kW of lighting just in those fixtures, and from what I've read, each bulb was individually controlled. An entire lighting desk was used just to control those 600 lights. I don't think that lighting rig will ever be bettered. The "exploding mirrorball" does trigger my "Spinal Tap" detector, though.
Great reaction! Glad you guys liked it. I suggest you check out Pink Floyd back in 1988 with their live version of “On the Turning Away”. Gilmour’s ending guitar solo is epic! Love the backup singers too. 😎
Floyd have always been an audio-visual experience right from their inception, you were right when you said you shouldn't have closed your eyes, Floyd live should always be watched and listened to. They are an album band rather than a singles band, they should be listened to in their entirety as they are generally a concept where one track leads to the next generally without a normal start /finish, Daniel, you were talking about their live in pompei concert where they played to an empty colloseum (although 4 people managed to sneak in and watch it)
16:46 -- I was there. This guitar solo was and is historical! That was phenomenal and so emotional, that was just splendid and extremely powerful! As I said, I was there that specific day, at London's Earls Court, I was really young. After the concert, we were walking in silence, thinking about this phenomenal concert, looking at the stage sometimes just to remember this moment forever before we leave for good. I also remember the smell of joints, especially in front of the stage (yes, that was, of course, forbidden, but ... Pink Floyd is Pink Floyd, right? Some people couldn't resist!). Now, when I listen to this guitar solo, I always remember that the sound was everywhere around us: spectacular, imposing, powerful, but also perfectly clean! It was so impressive and so imposing. Like: the massive, colossal, and majestic Pink Floyd machine directly connected to your soul! And I can tell you that we were all vibrating. You know, 90% of the time, during a concert, people are talking, laughing, and having good times; but during this concert, everybody was literally speechless. No stupid or annoying people. Everybody was just "connected". It was like, being in a parallel universe where everything was completely different. That was phenomenal and special, almost "magic" so to speak. And so many people were there, something like 16,300 people. I kept the tickets by the way, hehe - And today, I'm still proud to say _"I WAS THERE, WITH PINK FLOYD THAT DAY!"_
David Gilmour is rightly hailed as on of the best guitarist ever. But he is criminaly overlooked/underrated as a singer. Man, What a voice! I was at one of the concerts i Oslo in 94. And stood around 2/3 way back. For me the ideal place. I got to see all of the light show. And then in the middle of THAT solo, THAT giant disco ball appears out of nowhere almost right above my head. I still got chills seeing or thinking about this 28 years later.

I was at this concert every track is at this level. I have been to many concerts nothing comes close to pulse at earls court London . Try one of these days, or run like hell, at this concert.
To me, this particular concert, and especially this particular track was the defining performance, the absolute zenith of all Pink Floyd's many years of pure artistry, it all came together and culminated in this monumental moment. Stunning... totally amazing !
It wasn't the Coliseum but the ruins of the Amphitheatre in Pompeii. No audience, just the crew and cameramen. There are also interviews with the band members and snatches of them in the studio during the recording of Dark Side of the Moon. There is a documentary available of this. Fascinating and well worth buying. Gilmour also played there with his own band years later.
There never was, or ever will be, another band like Floyd!!! They plug right into your mind, body and soul. Never a disappointment.
You got that right.
That second solo is a an utter eargasm! There are few lead breaks that can measure up!
I wish more people had the sense to close their eyes when listening to PF.

I was fortunate to be there too and that sound was mind blowing as well as the ahead of its time lighting. Did you get to Earls Court for this show?
@@martinmcgee2710 Wembley in August 88.
I was there too Tony... wasn't it something else.. My abiding memory in the stands at the halfway line was looking around the stadium and just seeing everyone in the audience singing.. 34 years ago but I still can remember that concert.. Keep on rocking man.
@@johnpbh That's a fine memory to look back on. Rock until we drop!
SPENCER......that is definitely exactly how you should listen to david gilmour on this form!!! , great video guys!!!
My brother used to own and run a convenience store in a quiet English provincial town.
I was visiting him one day when this old guy came in wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.
I looked up in disbelief and uttered "Err, You're Dave Gilmour!"
"Yes I am" he replied. My brother asked how I knew who he was.
Again, I replied, "He's Dave Gilmour!"
"Yeah, I know who he is, he comes in each week to pay his newspaper bill" answered my brother. "But, how do you know him?"
"It's Dave, fucking Gilmour, Pink fucking Floyd".
"Oh, I never knew, I just wrote his name on his newspaper each morning" replied my brother.
Dave Gilmour then uttered that he's gonna have to find a new paper shop where he's not known now.
Brilliant reaction. Loved you closing your eyes and letting yourself be teleported away.
David Gilmour have the voice of an Angel and plays the guitar like a worldchampion! I love him😍
I was there and the sad thing is that even back then they played through their Olympic stadium sized quadraphonic sound system.
Pure class. Love playing this solo.
Guys, you need to watch and listen to the "unplugged" version of this.
Listening to this with you guys makes me so happy. You are both great people that can achieve so much with your kindness and honesty. I find it amazing that I can feel like I have friends that I can listen to music like this with.
Thanks for the kind words. Much love!
I was lucky enough to see the Pulse concert. It was breath taking.
Totally get you preferring the live version. Pulse was epic.
Live in Pompeii it was. They did it in the 70s and Dave Gilmour did it again recently
Glad you guys got to watch this. Spencer's face during the end solo sums up how I feel about this version 🙂
SRV's performance should absolutely be the next one !
Great choice. Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing - Alchemy Live is worth a listen too.
The best live electric guitar solo in the history of the electric guitar!
I’m with you re: Sam Brown, she’s brilliant. I didn’t know Claudia Fontaine had died. Very sad.
Pink Floyd - Echoes - Live In Pompeii
Muse 'Knights of Cydonia' live in Rome is a great performance to check out fellas
When you watch the full concert in 5.1 on a home theater you really get to enjoy it. It is a must buy for any Floyd fan
Now that was an eargasm.
Epic.
@@Paul-hl8yg it was so fabulous and I am so happy I did. Keep rockin' man and best wishes x
@@SJ19_998 So happy you saw them & enjoyed! 👍 You sound like you have great taste in music mate! All Best!!!! 👍🇬🇧
You’re a lucky guy indeed!
Always watch pink Floyd with your eyes open. It’s a musical and visual journey
That's a dumb rule. People should enjoy the music any way they wish to.
I disagree. There’s only one rule: Enjoy it your way.
" Where were you in 94" at this gig in Earls court arena ...Paradise !!!
Effortlessly cool. Thanks for uploading guys. 😁
pink floyd are the best live band there ever was and will not be surpassed im 70 and i have seen them 5 times suggest the live pulse concert great gig in the sky and different comfortably numb as well as high hopes and the grand finish with i over i millions dollars worth of lights and effects run like hell also run like hell is the closer at david gilmore at Pompeii nlive complete with fire works these songs will blow you away

Where was I in 1994? I was at this concert as a gift for my 21st birthday 4th row earls court london. I also worked for a company that made the flashing LEDs for the side of the CD case to this live album.
This is, in my opinion, the best guitar solo that's ever been played. Others have commented on the music, but I'll take another perspective:
This is also, in my opinion, the best lighting rig I've ever seen.
Muse are another great band you should take a look at. They also filled Rome coliseum
I subscribed for the football chants videos, now I'm getting vids of my favourite guitarist of all time
My band since 1968 and for ever 💖
'Come in number 51, your time is up' is a hidden Pink Floyd gem. Not many people have reacted to it yet!!
In heaven all the Angle play guitar like David Gilmore. This is hands down my favorite guitar solo ever! That shit is heaven on earth!
Great reaction! Glad you guys liked it. I suggest you check out Pink Floyd back in 1988 with their live version of “On the Turning Away”. Gilmour’s ending guitar solo is epic! Love the backup singers too. 😎
Liked before I even started watching. Gilmour is the 🐐
Floyd have always been an audio-visual experience right from their inception, you were right when you said you shouldn't have closed your eyes, Floyd live should always be watched and listened to. They are an album band rather than a singles band, they should be listened to in their entirety as they are generally a concept where one track leads to the next generally without a normal start /finish, Daniel, you were talking about their live in pompei concert where they played to an empty colloseum (although 4 people managed to sneak in and watch it)
Boys, got to to give it to you , Gilmour really does look like Greg Davir in that shot!
THANK YOU. BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG. epic
Live… they cant be beaten, the light show is from another planet. This concert was amazing and well worth a view.
I would listen to this guitar solo all day. Pink Floyd always reminds me of getting of my face round my friends house whilst listening to this.
This song has helped me through some hard times in the last 10 years, its what i put on to forget the pain of this world and be comfortably numb
You should try both High Hopes and Sorrow from the same 1994 pulse concert.
Great reaction fellas I'm from uk was actually at this concert still got the tickets from it I'm a massive floyd fan and so is my 17 year old daughter so I took her to nyc last August to see waters in msg that was pure class you both know your music I like when you react to brit 90s
Pink Floyd were/are the best, and this guitar solo is amazing! I was fortunate enough to see Gilmour in 2015.
So glad u guys covered this!! Amazing band and wanted u to cover this band 4 so long!! Please check out their song called Time
One of the greatest live performances. Another guitarist worth checking out is Joe Walsh. Him and Dave probably my favourites.
