In this vlog, I take you with me for some plant therapy at an amazing greenhouse here in the Hudson Valley. And I remember back to when I heated my last cottage with a woodstove ... which was a huge challenge. I also get Charlie the chihuahua started with some agility training ... which he LOVES!

I had a woodstove for 30 years. I miss it so much. But it wasnt my primary heat source. People forget how much work a wood stove requires.
I really had no idea how much work it was until I tried! But as they say, live and learn : ) have a lovely week!❤❤❤

A little tip about cactus. Don’t water in winter and plenty of drainage. If you repot use only cactus soil. 🌵
I've always cheaped out and not bought cactus soil. So thank you for that tip ... I need to try it!❤❤❤
Charlie is so handsome and smart...Gosh, he looks so much like my last Golaith...Golaith was my first Chihuahua that I ever owned...He has been gone for a long time now...but I still miss him so much ...He startes me to raise chihuahuas....and ih what fun that was....My last little chihuahua was Miranda...She was all of 2 lbs....and the love of my life...Golaith was her daddy...I miss my chihuahuas...But I now have a Yorkshire terrier named Hadessa (Desi) for short...and now the love of life ...Thank you for sharing your life and Charlie with us ...I truly enjoy your content...Much love...Until next time....🥰🐾🐾🫂🐾🐾🥰

I share your gratitude that a month after solstice the days are noticeably longer. The polar vortex made January seem 2 months long already. That Charlie is an athlete for sure!

So much fun to see Charlie enjoying learning new tricks. He obviously loves to work and to learn and he’s such a quick learner. Enjoyed watching you thrift and find the beautiful new Free People sweater. Your trip to the greenhouse has inspired me to want to go as well. Are used to have a large number of houseplants, and now I have none. Seeing all the varieties in the greenhouse has made me want to go and explore. I’m particularly interested in researching the care of staghorn ferns and perhaps getting a few. I’ve always been fascinated by their shape. Ferns are my favorite plants and for outdoors hostas rule in my garden. Thank you again for a brief picture into your life. You bring great joy to so many of us. Be well..
I hope you find some beautiful ferns!! I just love them, too ... but always kill them when they're indoors. But they're my favorite thing to spot in the woods. Hope you find a little greenhouse retreat to visit sometime soon : )❤❤❤

I'm a highly sensitive person who loves solitude, and nature ... And the timbre of your voice is perfect for the story telling. I've been on hibernation mode too Kate these past few months. Today in GA, its unseasonably warm at 72 degrees, hot, muggy, humid, stormy, it's very tornado soup-ish. Keeping our eyes peeled to the skies. Last week it was like 20 degrees with windchillof 10 degree. Unreal wacky weather. I've enjoyed the days getting ever so slightly brighter at 5pm. Charlie did great with his hoops😁💕

Charlie is a smart little boy! We are building a tiny cottage for our retirement. Our main source of heat will be a wood stove, but we’ll have a small propane furnace for backup.

I was so excited to see Charlie take on jumping through a hoop. He picked that up so fast. I can't imagine what else you have planned for him.

Charlie has been much better bonding with you and, I think it's because you are not distracted with so much that there is not enough time for him plus, he is the only one getting all the attention, in your home. That's a really good thing.
When you talked bout the days getting a bit longer, you are right. Thanks for pointing that out. It is ten minutes to five and I can see across the street!
Don't these grey days go on too long? I am a cooler temperature person, living with MS but, I love the sunshine. It puts a smile on your face, it perks you right up and, you just need to get outside.
I love Thrifting, since tuning in to your videos. Sometimes, I just want to go and look around, for something to do and then, I find something! What joy. I think I have more fun finding something used, that I need than investing in something new. Often, I find something made in a country that once was popular but has been replaced by so much from China. Don't get me wrong, if I am looking for something Chinese, I want it made in China!
I have a spare, small bedroom, in my apartment. I don't really need it so, I have housed all my beloved house plants in there and, now, it is my green room! I want to find a second hand wing back chair to place in there so I can knit, read or, write letters while sipping on a herbal tea.

You found all my sweet spots today. Dogs and the joy they bring to us, cozy warm homes, going thrifting and finding that one item that made our day and wandering the nursery looking for that plant that needed to be ours. I'm 65 and love ur channel I have always been a country girl. 7 years ago I lived in a old home 100 years old as my now home is. The town had 300 people I. It which was just fine for me. I lived in the heart of the town which I loved. We had a thrift store and I always went in shopping. I think if u do more thrift store and how to decorate. Boho is so in rite now. I live in a small (50 square metre) very old(200 yrs old) stone house, i bought 8yrs ago here in the mountains in central Europe with no central heating, thank God, as i hate it, with only a wood stove, my trusty Ms Goldie😂. I love it and actually it's healthier as we need to be uncomfortable, especially regarding heat, plus it's better to sleep in a cool room, just check the sleep podcast...when it gets into -7 Celsius, i sleep in front of the wood stove with a mountain of blanket, hot water bottle and my two cats😊. Every time i visit a friend who has a central heating, i feel suffocated. Not only no central heating but i don't have a car or electricity, not even solar panels, just this old mobile phone with a limited access to internet..i charge it at a friend's house...😂❤❤

Hi Kate & Charlie. Having a dog as your companion just so fulfilling. I love the way Charlie adores you and wants to just make you happy. He is so smart and quick! I would be lost without my lil female shih Tzu, Monet! She is so eager to please me and sleeps by my side every night I call her my lil shadow cause she is always close by. I am so glad you and Charlie have that special baby and trust. The scenery there is just so beautiful. I especially enjoy the streams with the water rolling over the rocks. So peaceful. I enjoyed the visit.....your precious dog, sweater shopping with twinkle lights, and the new little plant. And what a cool orange dress! But the snow and cold weather has turned me off for now with the many problems here in Memphis. TN where I live. Our water lines broke under ground causing low water pressure, many without water, and all having to boil water for three minutes to drink and wash dishes for almost a week. And we could not wash clothes or take a bath. Then, there was too much use of power so we could not cook or use major appliances. Wow! Wish I had a log burner or a working fireplace. I guess many had the same weather related problems. So glad it is over for this round. Still winter is sure to bring more extremes. For a week now it has been warm with rain, rain, rain, with dark skies. Good to see you and looking forward to next time with hopes of high hoop jumps!! Big grin!!

That plate you picked up in the thrift store was what I had in the 70's! What a blast from the past! I bought 3 sets at the time as we had a lot of family & friends. I love your painting. This video inspired me to take off my uncomfortable jean shorts (as I have gained some weight since last summer) and put on a colorful and roomy dress I picked up from the thrift store last week. We should feel beautiful and comfortable at any age and any size.

Hi, just wanted to drop a comment and let you know the hubby and I just came back from spending the day at Smith College Botanical Gardens. We go to different green houses and indoor gardens throughout the winter. Magic Wings is one of the other winter escapes we enjoy. We are so thankful for such places that help us get through the bleak season. Also, we visited Goodwill yesterday and I found some great deals on some cozy never worn brand name sweaters! I believe your little Charlie is a natural! Keep challenging him. Now, since turn about is fair play, I think Charlie should lead you through some adult hulahoops for some chocolate LOL. I'm expecting a video of this , you know! How wonderful you scored at the thrift shop. Nothing makes you feel better than that. Girrrrl, I got 4 beautiful tops (one very peasant-like) at our local Community Aid store today for just under $20. I am so happy with my purchase and so glad I took your advice. Just like you said, there were a LOT of new tops mixed in amongst the used ones. Thank you for sharing that little waterfall...it was wonderful!

What a delightful episode Kate. Charlie was the 🌟 in this one. It was nice to see that you do not peel yams for roasting. The skin is perfectly edible and earthy, much like a russet potato skin is. Your cottage home is so cozy. Those hanging orange slices still look pretty. They last a long time. It's great that the days are getting longer but now all my outdoor light timers need adjusting. Always something... ❤

Charlie’s progress is amazing! What fun for him and you and us! I hear you about the wood-burning stove. I lived for four years with that as my only heat source. Though I used to just joke that chopping wood heated me up as well. It’s good to be able to build a fire, but I admit the mess of ashes was challenging. There are a lot of wonderful, wood-burning fire boxes out there though, so if I had my ideal home, it would be solar powered with a little airtight fireplace as well. I feel like I am happier when I get to stare into a fire.
I feel like if we were neighbors, we'd be such good friends haha! I agree with the woodstove saga... a warm fire is so wonderful, but, it's hard work! Always enjoy whatever you share - thank you. Have a wonderful weekend!

As the owner of a wood stove I understand totally! I used a propane heater this year and life has been so much easier. But I'm still gonna have that wood stove going for *ambiance* lol

Aww, Charlie is so smart. I love watching him do tricks. I understand about the "grey". I live in beautiful surroundings, mountains and snow right now but also the sky has been so cloudy-plus we are high up so have been in the clouds/fog for most of December and January. I'm ready for El Niño to be over! Glad you found some fun items on your shopping trip. The lights will look amazing in your yard!

Thank you for another wonderful video. You have such a beautiful, sweet smile:) I have a little chi mix who also loves her hoops. Charlie is a smart little guy. He has the sweetest face too. You will do fine with the cactus. Just let it dry out really, really well and provide lots of good light. I learned after losing a few from overwatering. (I used to water them when watering my other plants, thinking my cactus was dry enough, but that does't work! Let it get bone dry and then still don't water. I just got Chihauhau puppy about 3 months ago and what struck me is how smart he is!! They really are the genius's of the dog world !!!

What a delight as always to watch. I kept your video for a relaxing cup of tea. Very much needed after a weird nothing went right day, but still interesting. The heating thing. My goodness yes. I have bought myself a mini medieval 'manor' (read tiny house) and it has no heating. Luckily though it does have thick walls. The very real advantage of medieval. They retain the heat of even a tiny portable radiator amazingly!
