Hello sweet friends!
I'm so happy you're here. Since I haven't seen you since the new year started, happy 2024!! This is my year of putting myself first, so the reason you haven't seen me until the end of January is because I took time to rest and relax after the holidays. Honestly, I was pretty burnt out and I can't even say when it started. I think I wasn't properly resting the past year. I'd work and edit all night and not get enough sleep and never take time to fully recover before jumping back into work again. So I really took time to just be still and sleep a lot lol. And then, I took a trip to Germany and Austria for 10 days in the middle of January (I filmed it so stayed tuned for that video! We attended a ball in Vienna! 🥹) So because of that I wasn't able to get a video up until now. I still really hope you enjoy it :) This video is a video of my heart. I'm so proud of it. It has taken me the past few years of actively working on changing my mindset so that I could enjoy winter and now it feels that every year I just fall more and more in love with this season. I love it so much, and I know if I could do it, so can you (if you want to 😊)
So without further adieu, I hope you enjoy this video about enjoying winter, romanticizing these dark winter days and welcoming more hygge and stillness into our lives during this cozy season.
Wishing you all the most magical of days. Thank you for being here 🫶🏻

What has been your favorite part about this winter so far? Have you picked up a new hobby or discovered a new favorite tea or have you experienced any snow days? I'd love to hear!!
P.S. Did anyone stick around until the bloopers at the very end of the video? 😉
My favorite part this winter was snow❄️!!! So grateful to have some this January ( we rarely have it🥲) , my anniversary month! I was working those days and I left heart sign in the snow all the way to work drawing them with my foot and people looking weird at me 😆. I actually started a new book this month , one that was waiting on my tbr and I’m loving it and think you will too, it’s “an enchantment of ravens” by Margaret Rogerson ( recommend her other book “ Sorcery of thorn “ too it’s about books and magic! Perfect combo!)
I ordered the same dress from linenaive ! I can’t wait to receive it ( it sure taking it’s sweet time to come to me 😅). Your little green bonnet is adorable! Did you knit it?
Omg Jared 😂
honestly my favorite part about winter this year in my little corner of the world was that we actually got winter again. cold days and snowy days... ❤not as much as we used to but it felt close to it
I started knitting this winter! I feel like a bit of a granny, but in the best way possible! ❤ it makes me feel so cozy, and has been a great replacement for mindless activities like instagram or tiktok!
I live in alberta and this has been the warmest winter we have had in My entire life! So I've been enjoyed the sunshine, despite it being January ❄️
Love the bloopers 😂 wishing you all the best! Thanks for being one of the things I look so forward too everytime you post! 💗
Beautiful video!!! 🤗 What was the clothing store that you mentioned?
I have to ask what camera and filters do you use cause your videos are just so beautifully gorgeous
I have cancer and chronic pain. Watching your videos gives me so much comfort. The way you've created a safe space full of magic, books, cozy things and beauty, heals my soul and incredibly my body as well. I relax so much watching your videos with a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea, that i forget about the pain for a bit. Keep up the magic Desi! You really bring a light in this world! ❤️✨️
Oh dear! I am with you in this difficult time of your life. Sending you much love and cozy comforts. ❤

So sorry.. Praying for you💕
I love how Jarred said you looked cute, like Anne of Green Gables when you asked how you looked with the bonnet on! It’s so good that he gets you. (I got questioned why I dressed so different instead) Being an Autumn & Winter gal I want to say that deciding to enjoy a season really does make a difference! Last Summer I decided instead of complaining about the H&H(heat & humidity) of NC summers and longing for it to be over that I’d embrace it instead. I joined a pool and went nearly every day instead of staying in the AC. I enjoyed iced matcha’s at Dunkin Donuts on my way home. I also decorated for summer with mermaids, sea creatures, summer beachy pillows and a pirate/mermaid sign for my downstairs bathroom. It really made the summer fly by in a good way and it lightened my mood. 😊
I love this so much!!
@@LornaKBailey Me, too!
I recently got diagnosed with a chronic illness and it has brought me down significantly. Hearing that you are going through a similar instance and still thriving despite the health challenges is encouraging. I'm so glad I have this video to watch and enjoy; it's certainly a great comfort!!💕✨❄God bless, sending prayers your way!!
Fellow chronic illness sufferer. The best thing you can do is to love yourself through it. Be kind and gentle to your body, you're going to have to get to know the new you.
Oh 😢 sending so much love ... for me similar , i got diagnosed these last days with depression and problems with nervous system 😢
@@RedVelvetLines Thank you for the kind thoughts!! It's definitely a challenge but we'll get through it! God bless
@@baskabaisova2126 Oh I am so sorry! 💕That is a huge challenge. I'll be praying for you!
@baskabaisova2126 nervous system here too. Dysautonomia.
This is the first year I've embraced how I feel about winter. I always slow down, but usually feel guilty about it. Slowing now, I realize there is a visual "cleanness" to winter that gives us time to reset before the (beautiful) visual clutter of spring shows.
I just randomly thought "ooh I wonder what Desi's up to, I would love to hear from her again" and now this!💞 Gotta love when the universe works like this.😄✨
Haha yay!! It was meant to be 🥰
I love that Ashworth quote! It is so funny that January is seen as a time to set goals and be productive but our bodies are telling us to rest more in the winter ❤️
I love everything you wrote in the beginning. 🌨💙❄️ I live in Wisconsin and really like winter. I keep our tree up after holidays and change it to valentine decorations to enjoy the beautiful glow early in the dark mornings before my kids get up.
I’m so happy you loved it. Winter beauty has become some of
my favorite beauty 🥹☁️❄️
Honestly, I am upset I never thought of this idea for my own home. How has this tradition passed me by for three decades?? Genius! ❤😮 *rushes to pinterest for inspo* 💘💋🩷
I love what you said about mind wandering… I think a lot of us numb out with technology and work because we’re scared of being alone with our thoughts, but that’s what we’re meant to do. What a great practice to let the thoughts come and really explore your ideas.
Currently ill and awaiting surgery, almost confined to my home not able to go out. I have become so lost in the darkness and this video has helped greatly, thank you my friend

Dear Desi, I want you to know that your videos truly bring joy to my life. There are other UA-camrs who are fun and may bring a short moment of joy when I watch their videos, but your videos stay with me long after I watch them. It is the positive attitude, the wonder and amazement with which you approach life that stays in my heart, a reminder of how I must approach my own life and all its little daily miracles.
I'm a Rhode Island native and I am SO excited that you are loving our sweet little state. I believe you were definitely meant to be a New England girl! There is so much to savor in all seasons and you are close to everything from the ocean to the mountains. Thank you for your sweet videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious! Check out Wickford, RI if you haven't already.
I always watch your videos on repeat. You have no idea how much impact you have on my life. I'm always so calm after watching them. It's like therapy for me.
My anxiety has been so bad, I'm having severe panic attacks every day at the moment and your videos help me see the light 🕯️ thank you soso much 💞 xxx
I’ve had those during and after quarantine. I’m so sorry!!! I’m all better now and so will you. Sending you some Greek ☀️ shine to lift your spirits up a little, dear stranger

Wish you all the best ❤
I used to have them too to the point that I got so bad I never believed they’d go away.
BUT, they did, so I just wanted to share that things will get better 🩷 I hope you have a lovely winter xx
@@lg4mat thank you so much 💚✨️ everything is so scary, but I know it will get better with time xxx
I laughed when you were talking about taking down the Christmas decorations and what to do after . I live in Louisiana right outside of New Orleans and I think we decorate for Mardi Gras more than we do for Christmas! You drive around and everyone’s house is purple, gold, and green and people are dressed in Mardi Gras shirts, Mardi Gras earrings, and Mardi Gras headbands from head to toe! You should look into celebrating that one year. So much fun!
We are kindred souls. The love of books, snow and the winter season? I haven’t met anyone else yet who enjoys all three!! Love your videos👏
Feel the same way about winter. If you choose to love parts of it, life gets a little bit better.
Hi Desi, I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. My daughter is currently going through an autism diagnosis, she struggles with panic attacks and anxiety. But you videos are so calming when shes had a tricky day. We watch them together and share our love of vintage books and slow moments. She's redoing her room using ideas you gave her and she feels encouraged to be herself whenever she watches you.
Haven’t even watched it yet, but I’ve been rewatching your start of 2023 video every morning to start the day so I am very excited to be with a friend in our hibernation era ❤
My starting over in 2023 video is one I even watch to motivate myself sometimes! 😄 I hope you enjoy this one! Thank you for being here 🫶🏻🥹
I love your crafting mistakes and the cats interrupting the journaling, I like that you sometimes forget names and you get really enthused about things and you are willing to put bloopers at the end- there is something perfectly imperfect about you that is the heart of what is endearing about these videos.
Worked out today that my anxiety was getting worse not better, I'd just been living with constant anxiety instead of having panic attacks, as well learning I'm probably autistic and ADHD (nothing wrong with that) and this video has provided the burst of calm and relaxation I desperately needed. Thank you so much Desi ❤
As an EDS sufferer, I completely agree with your philosophy of slowing right down in the winter. My pain levels get very high in damp conditions and as I live in the UK, winter is cold and damp! Getting warm and cosy and allowing myself just to be really helps - I also have a mandatory afternoon nap which has revolutionised my mental and physical health 🥰🥰
i love your filming, editing, the scenes, your voiceovers…everything! Thank you❤
Thank you so much!! 🥹🫶🏻
your videos are so motivating and comforting at the same time💓

Boredom is such a friend to creativity. That's part of my struggle right now. It seems there's always so much to do and think about that my brain doesn't have that lovely time to just be bored and wander and see what it can come up with. As a kid I was often in situations that I didn't want to be in and it left time for my brain to be elsewhere. To sit in the boredom and come up with stories and ideas. I really miss that.
I love living here on the northern east coast USA. We get the best (and the woerst) of all four seasons. I love each one because I know, just when I get sick of one the next one is on its way 😊 I can't be bothered complaining about the weather, I just look for the best in each one. Go out and take pictures of nature, it's so therapeutic!
Thank you Desi! Your videos have become progressively more beautiful over the years and are always a joy to watch ❤️
Ahhh that means so much. Thank you 🥹🫶🏻🤍
One minute in and I could cry this video is so incredibly sweet. ❤🥹
I‘m laying sickly in bed and watching this video gave me such comfort and warmth. I‘m feeling so much better already now haha! Slowing down even though live can be so hectic is an amazing feeling! ✨
Sending you healing wishes! I really hope you recover soon. Being sick during this time of the year is the worst 😣
I have had a terrible 1.5 years - two surgeries, constant health struggles, terrible pain and now recently gynecological issues that seem to drag on forever.
Seeing all of the people with health issues in these comments make me feel so seen! No one ever seems to truly get it, the toll that constant health struggles takes on you. I’m wishing every single person here brighter days in the future, endurance for the present and a little something magical each day:)
I live in Colorado, and I just love days when I wake up to snowfall! I love the Winter. It is such a time of quiet and peace.
I'm in love with the winter this year also..i use to feel melancholy but now I see that nature is doing what its suppose to..resting..stillness..hibernation..im learning to go with the flow of nature as well. Feels better.
Your smile when you were talking about books ❤❤, so contagious ❤

“Your current self needs you” wow I just practically burst into tears 🥺
“I write about you almost daily in my gratitude journal”, what a beautiful thing to say❤. This may be one of my favourite video’s of yours, I adore the cozy ambience you managed to create. Hope you are well and lots of love from the Netherlands
THIS is the one video that I’ve been longing for lately! I want to keep enjoying this season and this will certainly help. THANK YOU dear Desiree. 😊♥️👏🏻
Thanks mom!! Sorry it wasn’t up sooner 😄 Our trip took up a lot of the time I would have been using to work on this video. But I hope you still enjoy it!
@@DarlingDesi It’s all good! Important thing is that YOU got some needed and deserved R&R! I’m just happy anytime we get to see and experience one of your videos. 🥰
I love your videos so much, you’re one of my favourite content creators, but I find it’s more aspirational for me rather than achievable. When you have to work multiple jobs and take care of a child on your own, you can’t really slow down and thrive in the same way 💔 but I still try and bring small elements of this into my daily life
I come here to relax and enjoy life through your eyes. Sometimes I forget to stop and enjoy the little things. Thanks Desi for being the one to remind me to do that. 💕💕
I've had a really bad spell of mental health issues this January. It started with SAD then snowballed (hehe, good expression for winter I guess!) I'm doing better now but seasonal depression is so, so real and I have really felt it here in gloomy England. So if anyone is reading this and is struggling, I offer you a hug from one spirit to another. These videos help SO MUCH and I'm so grateful for your uploads, Desi. They are like a warm tonic for the soul
Oh, Desi, your videos and sweet spirit are such a balm to the soul! Thank you so much for sharing your magic with us!
Thank you sweet Elle 🥹🫶🏻
Thank you again for this lovely video which helps me so much to calm down every time! My wish for 2024 would be, that you post more "lazy" videos between your masterpieces. Just you sitting down once a month telling us what you read, crafted etc. Just more simple videos as it is really hard to wait so long every time as your videos take so much work. Remember every little video is awesome too.
I don't typically type comments on videos/channels I subscribe to. Especially not within the first video I see from the creative. I read a quote earlier today about self-sabotage. A behavior I am trying to learn from. It states that self sabotage is when you know what to do, what is best for you, and what makes you happy and you don't end up doing it. Recently, I have leaned into acknowledging who I am and doing the things they would like to do more and more each day. And your (i forgot the technical name) picture you used to post your video with caught my attention because my truest form loved it. I am grateful that I honored my love for your picture, clicked on your video, and witnessed the witness within you. I am grateful for honoring who I am more and more each day and doing the things I want to do because it led me to your channel and I am so happy to be aligned with someone as beautiful as you. I appreciate your efforts, and I hope they continue to serve you well. Ebbing and flowing with peace and serendipity. ❤
Every weekend, when I have time in the morning, I like to sip my coffee and let my mind wander. I do this for about an hour or two, then I write in my journal. This is before I go on my phone or take in any content. My own content comes first.
I am thankful I live in a place with all 4 seasons… I love them all! It’s a bit dreary right now here in Pennsylvania. I am hoping for more snow soon 🥰 I always enjoy your videos. Thank you!
Something about this episode, particularly the snow put two lines for a book that's not yet written into my head. The opening line(s): And as she stood, her white dress sparkling like sunrise on snow, she sighed. it had been a long time coming but it was finally here. Her wedding day.
and the closing line(s) And as she stood, her dress as black as the sky around her, she sighed. It was finally over, but what a life they had led.
because I like when a closing line echoes an opening line.
I want you to know how incredible your videos make me feel, Desi. Thank you so much 🙏💕
I wish we had that much snow, this winter. We haven't had beautiful white winters for some years. We had snow before christmas,it lasted about 3 days..., but that was it. The day were just grey and ugly, with some rainy cold damp days...
I don't like the cold and damp temperatures. I do love snow though,i mean lots of snow...maybe 20 cm😊 that would be beautiful. That would be my winter,it would make everything lovely and cosy❄😊. Thank you for that beautiful and cosy video☕🥐📚❄
I love the story of "anne of green gables" and "little women". I also love books from jenny colgan.
Winter is my absolute favorite season ❤
I agree with your cat biting at the end of a pen is fantastic and should be done often! 🥰
Agreed 🥰
I love this and totally agree, winter is a time of hibernation, DEEP reflection, introspection and rest and relaxation~~~I miss the snow since I have moved down south~~enjoy and stay cozy~~~

The Little Book of Hygge is also the coziest audiobook!
Agreed! I’ve been listening to it on audio and it’s fantastic!
I long for snow and winter in general all summer long but then in winter my winter deppression just ruins it all, also the rain in winter netherland doesn´t help. School also makes it so hard to enjoy winter as I leave for school in the dark and come home in the dark, I usually try to go on sun catching walk in lunch break but my favorite thing in winter is cozying up with a cup o tea, candle light and a video of someone romanticizing winter after school. However in winter break I try to actually enjoy life outside too.
Your house is a living dream! It's so cosy and gives me so much inspo for my own place❤ The whole video is so cosy aswell!
I deal w same. Inflammation is hard. Ty so much for teaching us to listen, feel, and just be. Enjoy all life has given us. The simple things are what matters in the end.
Seeing a new Desi video has been posted is pure joy. I enjoyed your post-christmas winter decorating ideas. This year I've got a winter woodland vibe going on with red accents and a few strategically placed hearts as we go into Valentine's Day. Think winter birds, snowmen, deer, lanterns and some greenery with pinecones and red berries. Cozy winter nature vibes! Thanks for another video and the reminder of winter's simple joys. ❄☺
I woke up today 1/30/25 and thought this would be a good day to hang out with Desi. Loved this video and especially the bloopers. Best part: cross eyed cat watching your pen :)
autumn is my favorite season but winter is very close second. i love this video
I enjoy your videos 🫶 ✨a small suggestion - make a video special for Valentine's Day, decoration, books, cooking, outfit and similar... 🌹♥️
thank you so much for this video its everything i needed and more!
Desi, the only complaint I have of your videos is that there just isn't enough of them. Often, I just rewatch older videos of yours. Your videos to me bring a sense of being in a fairy tale. Please, please never stop being you!
That's so beautiful! I'm from the Philippines. And we don't have snow here. Wow! I really enjoy watching you playing in the snow. When I was playing pretending I was in the snow!!! You're so lucky! ❤❤❤
I am an Erik Satie girlie too. My favorite pure music (without vocals) tents to be French late 19th/early 20th century.
For between Christmas and Valentines decor, we leave up anything from Christmas that is not Christmas specific. So the lights stay up to ward off the darkness. All the penguins and snowflakes stay up. And most of that will stay up until March. In February, I switch out a few more things and add in the Valentines stuff. Which, I guess I should do this weekend!
Beautiful work as always.

City snow is its own beauty. I love winter. I’m Canadian and winter is my absolute favourite. It’s not easy, it can be very expensive to buy clothing and heat the home. Apart from that, there is beauty in the darkness ❤
I’ve been feeling this winter slump this year! I want to enjoy it and soak it up but I took down the Christmas decor and had nothing “wintery” To replace it and then the rain turned into warm weather like… where’s the snow?!? I was hoping you’d put out a video like this❤ thank you! Helps me get some great ideas!
I have to actively fight for my mental health especially this time of year. I also have Chronic Lyme..so its extra hard. I am watching this video and many of your other ones every day just for that extra reminder. I love the perspective shift this video has given me. Thank you♡♡♡ Youre such a special soul and you're really helping me find my true self. I appreciate you😊
I would like tips on romanticizing walking to work in -15 degree weather on icy or unshoveled sidewalks with the wind in your face. Legitimately. I do love a soft winter like this but it can be difficult to feel this kind of peace in the HARD winter.
Also that is a very cute cloud rolling on your bed and eating your pen.
Honestly the first thing that comes to mind is in Lord of The Rings, Aragorn walking through the snowstorm at the pass of Caradhras. I would just imagine that I'm an adventurer in a fantasy story, going through the part of the story that is just there to build character. I'd maybe bundle up so much, add every layer that I possibly can and listening to really intense/battle cinematic music while on the walk. And then I'd reward myself with a warm cup of hot cocoa, tea or coffee when I finally arrive at my destination. I know it sounds silly but I think it's what I would do and I think it would help me! 🤍
@@DarlingDesi Well, if you can't change your circumstances, change your mind! I do enjoy having some tea or cocoa when I get home, though the morning walk is always the harder one. It's difficult to enjoy winter when there are so many days that it's too cold to go outside, let alone have the window open. Midwest winters like to fight you. But at least you come in with rosy cheeks.
I meant to come back earlier when it was relevant and say it, but I did figure out what works for me! I just pretend I'm in Journey to the West (which is one of my fave books) and we've got to keep going til we find shelter for the night. Keeps the spirit warm! (Especially if I'm carrying multiple bags of groceries.)
I love to watch your videos. They are so peaceful and it makes me calm just watching them ❤❤

In my part of Norway, we've had snow since October and it will probably stay well into May 😊 And I love it! Even though it is really cold today, minus 28 Celsius (-18,4 F) in the early morning. The days are getting longer, in December sunrise is about 0930 to half past two, so only 5 hours in the darkest days. But now there's sun until half past four in the afternoon and it is wonderful!❤ I love the seasons and I love snow 😊 Lots and lots of snow! Have a magical winter weekend ❤

You are so lucky you live in such a beautiful place. I live in Florida, it's awful. I was lucky enough to live in Colorado for 16 years. I suffer from fibromyalgia and I do much better in the cold weather so living here is not great. While everybody talks about winter, here we don't have that. Thank you for your beautiful video. I long to live in Massachusetts so hopefully someday I will get there.
Thank you Desi❤
Truly ....you are a blessing to the world..
U make us all love the life we have Little more❤❤❤
I’ve heard several people this winter pointing out that new projects and new resolutions in January go against the cycles of nature. I’ve always felt that way in winter- tired, and in need of rest. Any new self-improvement effort started in now feels unnatural. I hope this is the beginning of a consciousness shift, where we all embrace the need and the right to go inward at this time of year.
I completely agree with lighting and amber lighting in the evenings or candlelight only once the sun has set. Ever since my move to New Orleans I have wanted to slow down and relax and rest more instead of being a workaholic. As a teacher who never knew when to quit or who never knew when it was okay to be just good enough and not perfect, I was reading this book about how to become a better storyteller. It was like one of those National Best Sellers, and it was by the checkout at UPS when I was, I think, making some copies. My favorite part about the book is when it talks about where storytelling came from and how people were usually around a fire and didn't have all of these modern technologies like electricity and digital entertainment and they had to entertain themselves. That took place with stories, experiences and traditions passed down orally. Even though I have moved back to the north I have been in the process of understanding what actual joy and peace mean to me outside of the classroom and outside of work. One of the that I would always feel bad about was spending so much money on candles because I just loved how they looked and how they smelled. This video reminds me that there are other people like me and like you who do not and should not feel bad about spending your money on the things that you care about which is making a cozy space. A healthy and safe space for your mind to rest and your body for that matter. Thank you so much for this video! You have helped me feel less alone with this idea and less shameful for what I choose to spend my money on. I also decided to invest in these awesome amber book lights that I have used as sconces by my bed as well as a low light in my bathroom for early morning or late night 🌙 releases 😂 and I also bring one with me when I go to work so when I get to my classroom early in the morning when it is still dark, there is a wonderful low light versus the obnoxiously bright overhead light for me to sort of sit in and relax before the children pour in.
Honestly, a "seasonal" job sounds really nice. Work spring, summer, fall... and wind down in winter. What a nice rest :) I guess if I am able to do this in the future, I will
