- Welcome to my channel where I share my simple and peaceful cottage lifestyle. Fall is very quickly disappearing here in the Hudson Valley ... the trees are bare and the forest behind the cottage is now carpeted with orange leaves.
In this video, I do some crafting with nature, share how evening fires in my garden have become a new favorite, and take my Chihuahua Charlie on a trip down to Delaware.
The air has a chill and I feel like snow will soon be here! But for now, I'm soaking in every last bit of the end of the fall season.

MY WASHING MACHINE ... people often ask what brand it is, and if I like it! The answer is ... yeeees! It's a Costway portable machine and I LOVE it! It's not nearly as fast and efficient to use as a regular washing machine. But if you can't have one for any reason, this little guy can be a real life saver. I suffer from anxiety and seeing you walking by yourself in the forest makes me anxious and envious at the same time.
I am a 72 year old grandma, and live for my trips to see my son and grandkids , since they have a gorgeous firepit . I do find it mesmerizing, hypnotic , and therapeutic. WIne in the summer or a hot toddy in the winter. Its my happy place! It truly is transformative. A form of meditation. So keep doing it as long as you can. Do you have friends nearby? Being older I am use to being alone, but you seem so young. Are your family close by? I do wish I had nature trails close like you. A walk in nature verses a walk in the city , are two different animals! And unfortunately I am in the city. And being in the California bay area , I never get that beautiful snow . It looked so quiet and tranquil.
Hi Kate & Charlie. I literally drank your video in this week. I have been in bed sick with Covid. Such a welcome site. I have been very sick and anxious. Living a lone and being sick is the worse. I too am preparing my mind for these days of early darkness. Instead of complaining, thanking God God for giving us a rest period from our planting and harvesting. Whatever those things are in your life.
I love the quiet snowfall at dusk and the smell of the air on those nights. I am in Indiana, so we can see 70 degrees one day and possible snow and definitely frost at this time of year. We will prepare for the steady chances of snow in late December. I love all of the things you are doing for your mental and physical health in this season. We try to do the same. Winters are hard but necessary for a beautiful spring in our lives😊

I had such a busy morning and, my back was aching. All I could think was...go and sit, on my favourite thrift chair!
I picked up my cell, turned on the You Tube notification, excitedly as, I knew, it had to be You! 🎉
You have made me so relaxed, now, with my feet up, on the edge of my bed, following you along your daily adventures.
Gosh, you have no idea how much you have inspired me to try and put aside time to walk, outside. I don't have the luxury of going far because of my MS limitations but when I am out, I am taking in everything my eye captures. Sometimes, I will sit on a bench to breathe in the crisp air and, inhale the scents from the ground and trees. It is alone time for Rudy, and I. We are coming along like, a house on fire.
Speaking of fire, what a great idea to gather up some twigs and, pine cones for a firepit Respite. A hot drink, was a novel idea, too.
I wish I had not wasted so many valuable years on mindless living!
I find the prices, way up on thrift items, too. Like everything else, when something becomes popular or a necessity, the price goes up!
I must say, when your video started, I couldn't help noticing your hair. It was like silk.
I used to have a good head of hair till, health issues and, age happened so, now I crop it very short! I was on FB when an ad caught my attention...hats with hair stitched into the bottom inside of the hats. I broke down and bought a ball cap with a white bob, below the ears and, the other was a woolen hat with longer, white hair stitched in. What a novel idea if you are having a bad hair day. I can't wait for them to arrive. I hope they will look natural and, suit me😅
Our trees are completely bare and, it is 36 degrees Fahrenheit! We have had one small snowfall and, last week, one day of freezing rain.
Today, I bought a pack of boneless chicken breast a pack of stewing beef, fresh carrots, potatoes, celery and, onions. Guess what for...Chicken soup and, beef stew with dumplings. So nice to have a large pot, on the go, with something yummy, cooking!

Like you I live in a cottage. Im on the Burnt River in Ontario. We have had a sprinkle of snow. Morning walks with sun rising and frost on nature is a beauty to behold.
Walking is so therapeutic, it's great for you. The Japanese call it Forest Bathing. I used to love walking everyday. I challenged myself to find a new bird each time I walked and photograph something in nature. Then last year I became disabled unexpectedly. Now I just dream of walking and it breaks my heart every day. I miss it so much, it makes me cry. Thanks for sharing your beautiful walks! It makes me happy 😊

As someone who has lived with anxiety for most of my life, I can understand the struggle to live with and through it. You are so brave not to give up and hide. A long time ago my father taught us the word 'atavistic'. He had a nightly ritual for years of having a fire in the fireplace, turning down the lights and no TV/music. His five kids, my mom and dad would all just sit and watch the fire for awhile. I think having a fire in the fall and winter takes us back to the not so long ago when fires were lit for comfort, warmth, light, protection. I feel comforted by firelight. Glad you are enjoying this time - thank you for sharing!

Hello Sweet Kate! It is so good to hear better spirits in your voice. I live in North Florida where it is mostly green but there is significant leaf loss and I have some wild cherry trees that are mostly bare but the leaves remaining are orange and just beautiful. My favorite sound in the world is the wind in the trees or the wind blowing leaves across the ground. I'm loving it right now. The weather is cold at night and cooler during the day. Sipping my coffee and watching this video was the most relaxing thing to do on this Sunday morning. Even my dog joined me on the couch to watch for a bit before curling up. I'm in southern Calif so rarely get to enjoy autumn colors. It's going to be 80 today so after we go to the dog park, we'll join a few other pooches and go to a local swimming hole that is still being fed by mountain streams. No swimming for us humans, but the doggies really love it.

Love your plan to have a fire ritual and add lights. There's nothing like sitting by a fire. I think as humans we evolved to really value sitting near a fire -- warmth, light, cooking, and safety.

Our Fall here in Central Oregon is still hanging on too, it's beautiful and kind of warm-chilly, and I'm loving it! We have quite a bit of snow on our Cascade mountains, but none so far here in town (I'm on the east side of the mountains in the high desert)

Hi, sending you fall greetings. This Jersey girl, now living in FL really misses the change of seasons so much! We were up in central NJ last weekend, for a family wedding and we enjoyed the fall colors that were still showing off! We hit 2 thrift shops and I could have spent all day in. My husband reminded me that whatever I bought would have to fit in my carry on, so that limited me. I love when there are still places that mark things for .25 cents and $1….ahh the good ‘ol days. As a Tidewater VA resident I confess winter is my least favorite season! Hearing the weather folks talk about El Niño and a snowy Mid Atlantic makes me shiver. I just hope fall lingers and winter is short!

We are hanging on to Fall here in Michigan also. We have had a dusting of snow but it is gone now. We are in the 40 degree range most days but looked ahead at next week and we will have 50's! I am so ok with that because 6 months of Michigan winter is way too long lol.

I'm so glad you are getting in your walks every day! The fresh air and beautiful surroundings make such a big difference in your mood. I'm normally out for several hours at least 5 days out of the week. I really love looking for new trails and parks to discover as well. Hi Kate! I had good luck thrifting this past weekend. I got a really great pot to melt and render my bees wax in to make some candles in. It’s good and solid, has two pouring spouts and was only five dollars. 🎉 hooray for thrifting ❤ I actually don’t mind when it gets darker and colder when the winter first arrives. We are getting snow all day today 🇨🇦 and it just feels so darn cozy. A pot of potato soup is in my near future.

As a rather recent resident of Florida from NE Ohio, I have to say how I miss Autumn and those crispy cold winter evenings when you step outside and snow is falling silently onto your upturned face. It's magical for sure. Enjoy!
I can relate to what you are feeling…after growing up in NJ and living here most of my adult life, I moved to Florida….every year I was there I missed the four Seasons more….I gave it five years and moved back…for me not having the drastic changes in Seasons…Autumn and Winter most of all, became debilitating….I’ve now been back 6 and a half years and never looked back….I’ll take the ice and snow over the heat/humidity and hurricanes any day…..I hope it works out for you 😊

It was great to see your video. I was wondering how your doing. I am enjoying yhe fall colored leaves here in northern california and the cooler temperatures. It is so hot here in the summer. Always 100+ days! It's alot for an old lady. I too enjoy the cooler temps. I like snow only if it melts as soon as it hits. I love the quiet when it is snowing. I live off grid, so snow covers the solar panels and I have to get a push broom and do what I call"solar panel hockey".😂😂 it's hard sometimes getting the snow off them. I am starting to cozy up my house for winter too. I am going to thin out my irises and spread them around for more flowers.have a blessed day and I am going to start to take walks too. I am in desperate need 😊

I agree with you on winter the ‘ not ready for it’, I like the longer sunny days and spring and summer, when life starts coming back to ‘life’. But, this is the first fall that I told my sis that I’m learning to embrace it, ( now I’m f she can try to learn to embrace the summer) instead of seeing things dying, which is what fall does, I now see it as , everything is just taking a sabbatical Perse’ or hibernation, until spring wakes it all back up!
It's been pure Autumn splendor in my neck of the woods in rural eastern Washington state USA. Our 1st measurable snowfall was October 25th! Plenty of gorgeous golden foliage still. Today I burned slash for 4 hours. Good medicine for my spirit. My Thanksgiving Cactus' lipstick pink blossoms have just started opening. Autumn is my favorite season 😊.

I love your channel. I live in Helena Montana. Last week we had a few days of snow totaling a little more than 2 feet. All melted now. Today sunshine and about 45. I get seasonal depression so love the sun in winter
I really enjoy your company! I am in the midwest at the Wisconsin-Illinois border and we have been warm. Today, the high is 58 degrees then next week in the mid to upper 60's! Normal temps are low 40's then the end of the month 32*.

You are transformed by way of your daily walks of inspiration, meditation and oxygenation. I look forward to seeing your first snow in your woods. My most magical snow experience was long ago when driving to work in North Wilmington, DE from Chester Co, PA on a back road through Brandywine Valley after a previous evening of heavy snow. It was very early morning, the sky was bright blue. The trees' bare limbs were covered the remains of the snow and by the hanging, frozen ice cycles that were catching the new sun's rays. The sun was still too low on the horizon to be shining directly in my eyes. I drove slowly and tried to absorb all this beauty happening above my head when I noticed a small group of white snow geese huddled together for warmth on the road directly in my car's path. Against the snow, they were barely identifiable as creatures. I thankfully avoided disturbing them and they hardly ruffled their feathers as a I slowly glided by. Another of life's moments of elation, joy and gratitude. I don't expect to experience snow unless I travel back to beautiful Pennsylvania as I live in the southern coastal area of Georgia. Enjoy every sweet snowflake.

We are so much alike. I can’t tolerate the heat either, love colder days and rarely take a jacket. Naive me, I just cut some of those weeds too for a grapevine wreath, same ones only stupid me had a wool sweater on, forgot that they stick to EVERYTHING and spent hours trying to pluck them from my sweater last night. Fall is my favorite, love cozy candles, thrifting and reading and my two little dogs are the love of my life like Charlie is for you❤. Love your channel!

I look forward to every video you post. I flew up to Pennsylvania from Jalisco, Mexcio this past week to celebrate my birthday and my sister's birthday. I can't believe we were actually in the same state for a few minutes! I wish I could share some of the photos I took because we had some really beautiful walks in nature together. Lots of good family time and celebrating my 70th. It is in the 70's here during the day, a bit cooler at night, lots of sunshine, and my tomatoes that I planted in October are ripening. I'm still not used to being able to grow food all year. I will enjoy watching your snowy videos from my warm climate. Freezing weather is not my friend!!🍁🍂

It's wonderful to get out in the bush. Here in Australia, I'm in a walking group. Today, we did 8 ks to see a gorgeous little spot called Merrica River in New South Wales where the river it meets the sea. So stunning. And so special to walk with friends. Best wishes to you and Charlie.

I wish I could love winter like you do. I am retired now and live in the country in an antique farmhouse. I don't have to go to work every day in bad weather..eont have to go at all as long as the latter and freezer is stocked up
Then maybe I will enjoy if we get snow.

Your dress in the first part of video was really pretty. I miss the fall colors here. But we have finally cooled down and a couple nights were in the high 40's to high 50's I'm loving it.

Hi Kate, Glad to hear you got to spend some time with Family and friends. Way down under we are getting warmer weather, however it comes and goes, just when you think you can pack away the winter woolies we get another cold snap, and we have to pull a few jumpers out, at least the 2 fur babies are out of theirs now ;)

Loved your wreath...we call those things 'hitch hikers' in Canada. Not the official botonist name of couse 😄I read they were the inspiration for velcro. Your fire pit is beautiful - fire is purifying, cleansing, warming, healing..toss all of your cares into the fire and feel them being consumed and turned to ashes. Charlie looks darling in his sweater. Yes, the nights are growing longer, the days closing earlier which brings us indoors addressing organization projects we have been postponing and a time to be creative and productive indoors. 💛🔥💛🔥
