This week, I gave myself a thrift store challenge ... create a Free People inspired outfit for a fraction of the cost of the original!! I visited a few different thrift stores to finally find the perfect look ... and even found a bonus vintage dress that I LOVE!

I love that look also, always dressed like that in my younger days...70's-80's, but as I got older I lost that part of me and just don't feel the same...I want to get that back and that is part of my New Year's promise to me, no matter how old one gets you are as young as you remember your happiest days.
Throughout my life, I had to dress a certain way for my career, but now, at 65, I can go wild. Well wildish😂

I always feel sad when I reach the end of one of your videos because I just wish it would keep going. The brown dress looks absolutely wonderful on you! And your reconstituted 3-piece outfit (with the pre-existing skirt) works really well. Hope you are able to sell that pretty bright dress for enough to fund more trips to thrift stores.

Yes some Thrift store have gotten expensive! There is a couple of privately owned Thrift store in my town that are NOT expensive. Goodwill is too expensive unless they are having a 50% off day. Sending hugs to you and Charlie. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

I agree with you about how expensive thrift stores are now! I told my man the other day that it is so sad that people can't even afford to buy from second hand, charity shops. Very sad.

I’ve been making a similar journey lol. I clean homes for a living so never dress up much. But recently went to visit my children in another province and wanted a few cozy pieces. I made a Pinterest board and went shopping with that as my guide. It helped so much. Otherwise I tend to pick up pieces that are maybe nice but not the style I want. So just like you, it channeled my shopping. Love your final looks. Maybe you have even more combos in your closet! I sew my own skirts so can keep the price’s down that way. That dress looked amazing on you and with you in the woods it all looked so totally amazing. Free People is one of my most favorites too! I was at Goodwill today and I found a little oval plate with a bird and pine branch on it for $2 - I am better at finding things than at finding clothes... I'm working on that🤷 👍👏😊see you next time

Hi from rainy Lancashire uk. Always love your adventures! I am so shocked at the prices in your thrift stores. I volunteer at a shop supporting a local charity and prices are like £4 for a top, £6 jacket, £5 dress. We don't get many boho clothes in. I don't think there are many who dress that way in my area. Just me, lol.

I love your channel!!! Unfortunately...Savers is a corporate company. It's not just a charity related company. We have Value Village here where I live. They're out for profits! The prices started going up when resellers started over shopping the thrift stores and making a profit. I sell on Poshmark and don't make much. I'm glad you do! I look forward to your next post!!!

Such a great video🎉what a fun challenge for thrifting. Your Fig likely stored up lots of energy from a summer outside...should last awhile. Generally plants like a gradual reintroduction to living inside and then outside again in the spring. We aim to lessen the shock. It looks very happy💚As do you...glad the funk has left.

I quit wearing makeup when I was at home during the pandemic, and I haven't gone back. I don't miss it either. I do miss not carrying around some extra weight, haha. Still struggling to lose it after Netflixing and chilling and overindulging during that time. Sure is harder to get off than it came on.
Love all of your thrifting finds! Keep up that thrifting even if you don't buy anything or are on a super tight budget (I hear that!). I just read a story where a lady found a pretty glass bottle at Goodwill for $3 or so and saw Murano on the bottom of it and lo and behold it just sold at auction for $107K. It was a rare piece from the 40s. Highly coveted! Maybe one of us will have that kind of thrifting luck!

Great fun! It is fantastic to find an unexpected treasure when shopping in a thrift store. I no longer shop in retail stores. It feels good to give an item renewed purpose, save money and know the money goes to support a worthy mission. My favorite place to shop benifits the local women's shelter. I also donate items so it's a good balance.🤗

What a score with the chestnut dress, so lovely !! I've been retired for just over a year and also stopped wearing jewelry and my usual makeup. But I found out that putting on my favorite earrings and silver bangles always makes my day happier even digging in my garden!

Fig Leaf Tip: Mealy bugs can be eradicated by washing the underside and top of the leaves with a mixture of dish soap, water, and a 1/2 tsp. of baking soda. The baking soda is what gets rid of the bugs; the soap makes the mixture stay on the leaf. You can spray it on or rub it with your fingers. Hope that helps! -V

I love this idea! Free People has some really cute stuff. I scored one of their dresses a few years ago at TJ Maxx. Have you ever seen Altar'd State? They have some really cute things. Also, Boho Beach Hut. My go-to for boho goodness is Natural Life. They're having a great sale right now. Earlier I got a really fun retro print wrap maxi dress for $30! I used to go to a local thrift store here called Valley Thrift but they've really jacked up their prices. The Goodwill stores here haven't done that, so I've been going there more often. That brown dress is SO FREAKING COOL! Love it!

I only buy my clothes in thrift shops and am always complimented on my " wardrobe " . I love the hunt , have everything from professional wear to sports wear . Its a great hobby and if the items not right , just redonate or have a garage sale.
Charlie's training has advanced quite a bit in the last year....well done Mommy! Regarding the licking question, yes, dogs lick objections for calming.
I totally agree with you about those so called air fresheners! My neighbor thinks they are great, and I can not stay in her house for very long, as it makes me feel so sick. I love the fresh air, and hate any artificial smells. I find that second hand clothes, which I love, often smell so strongly of some chemical - I suppose they have them dry cleaned or something, and I hate that. So I have to wash them as soon as I get them home. So wonderful that you can have your little special loving Charlie dog with you, he is an angel in disguise. xxx
Yees! I have that challenge sometimes with used clothes I buy. I've had to redonate some that I had bought because I couldn't get the strong smell out. though usually a few days hanging outside will help. Hope you have a lovely weekend!!!!❤❤❤

I would never attempt a dupe, but I have found inspiration in many places and feel better when it's something that I love and especially when it is within my budget. I love the brown dress. I could see that with a shawl with other dark earthtone colors and I love the sweater also. I did like the skirt, but it didn't call to me like the other items did. The prices in the thrift stores away from your area are ridiculously expensive. I just commented on another channel about donating items to thrift stores and how they want to pick through your donations. It's free and I don't donate junk. I really think some of the people that work at or run these stores need a reality check.

Absolutely LOVED this, as I am a free People nut! I scored great on Black Friday they had 50% off on some things. You did great! Love the outfit. I use the Free People catalog for reference photos for my art as well.

Kate, that was a totally fun challenge! I really enjoyed this. I think you would do really well taking women out for thrift store challenges for themselves, helping them find outfits that work for them, and then photographing them in their outfits, making them feel (and look!) like models. I think both you AND them would have loads of fun - and this could be a great winter project. Yes, it's winter, and it's more challenging to photograph people, but that would be part of the fun and challenge. That brown dress looks like it was made for you! And I agree with other comments that your outfit was even better than the inspiration! Though I really love the skirt you had on in the store with it - all those bold colours! We have no expectations (well, I should say I have no expectations) of what you will post in your videos. So far I've loved most of it - it is always varied and interesting (and I do love all the gorgeous skies). I love how this challenge really did test you and you stuck to your guns and didn't buy other things you loved that weren't part of the challenge - other than that lovely brown dress. So... did you sell the other dress you put up for sale? Inquiring minds want to know! I have a long haired chihuahua and she licks blankets and sometimes my shirt. Sometimes for 5 minutes. She’s a nut😅. I think she sometimes does it when she’s tired and other times I think she smells food. So glad you have the joy of caring for Charlie, he’s is so sweet. 🥰 Love that you found a dress to sell. I recently found a vintage Scott McLintock red plaid and black velvet Christmas dress for $12.99 and sold it on Marketplace for $100. And that brown dress is a perfect winter dress.
