FUKUOKA, JAPAN - Welcome to the island of Kyushu, and for winter during the oyster season, oyster huts commonly setup along the coast where you can come and order a bunch of fresh seafood and cook them on a grill table before you. Today, along with oysters, we found a huge abalone, the biggest I’ve ever seen!
1st Oyster Hut: goo.gl/maps/fH...
This is a very popular oyster hut about an hour drive outside of Fukuoka. The sea is so clean and fresh and that’s exactly how the oysters taste. Once you arrive they have a variety of live seafood and especially oysters that you can choose from. Then you go to your table and grill everything. These oysters can be eaten raw or grilled, but most like to grill them. It’s a great Japanese food eating experience especially with family and friends.
Total price - 8,100 JPY
2nd Oyster Hut: goo.gl/maps/ej...
We continued with this Japanese oyster hut tour to the second place, which was past Itoshima. This next oyster hut was more a of a local family home where they have opened up their backyard and garage to host seafood loving customers. I immediately loved this place and how family oriented it is - they catch and harvest all their own seafood. When she showed me the giant record-breaking abalone, I immediately had to order it. Grandma came out to slice it perfectly into sashimi and she recommended we eat half of it raw and half of it grilled with some oysters. They even had citrus in the backyard we could use for our oyster meal. It was truly a memorable Japanese food experience!
Total price - 9,550 JPY
When you visit the island of Kyushu during the winter, visiting a few local oysters huts is a must!
Thank you to Visit Kyushu (www.visit-kyus...) for helping me organize this food tour.

Yall food is good but so pricey when it comee to price, america cost of living might be cheaper .
Love to hear from you! Japan is simply amazing!
I wonder why are you calling your culture win no matter where you live you could do this in your own backyard 😂
I’m not Japanese. I respect Mark because I too am drinking Asahi from a can!
@@Zojirushi.2.16 Exactly!
Man as an Australian I’ve always wanted to visit Japan. The food the culture the people are so polite and respectful yet hardworking and masters at every trade. I’ve met Japanese exchange students and they absolutely loved us and our Country and I feel the same way about theirs! Good stuff Mark

Oysters are good, especially with lemon, vinegar, and some hot sauce.
Same, same Mate.
This video is probably on your top 10. You show us different types of japanese food, you don't just stay in Tokyo, you try new things and this is very pleasant to watch.
Agree, I was getting a bit bored of Marks videos but this one mesmerizing, easy top 10
He ate the poop of the turban and pretended it was good. What a creep
Mark, I envy you so much. I used to live in Japan. I met a friend from Fukuoka who highly recommended that I come to eat local fresh seashells. Lived in Japan for years, fishes, Shrimp, crabs, lobster, seaweeds, and seashells are the best in the world😘, whether raw or cooked. Mark, you visited Tsukiji Market and Hokkaido for giant lobsters and crabs. I miss Japan.🥺
This looked like you were choking it down!??
To everyone who sees this comment, keep pushing in life and never give up. Can't wait to see you successful one day and May God bless you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

First timer here. I got to admit the positivity here is amazing, both the host and his audience share a rapport like no other . No hate, no harsh comments no negativity. .
His is probably the only channel where everyone is so well behaved and polite. Like a huge happy family .
Like I said my first time but definitely not my last. Keep up the great work Mark. We need more people like you . And a big round of applause for the audience too for being so cool. 👍👌👌👌
Women are missing from Mark’s channel. He could fix this.
Mark really lacks culinary vocabulary. He doesn’t know what words to use to describe the food to make it sound appetizing.
The whole oyster hut setup, were you grill your fresh seafood just blew my mind! This is such a, beautiful and unique experience! Thank you Mark Wiens for sharing this with us and for the great content. ✌👍
Mark is a brave and adventurous eater no doubt!! That abalone sac was something else....!! True foodie

Thanks Mark Not an exaggeration but this channel’s production qualities are seriously hitting tv standards ❤️🇧🇸
The oyster hut culture there looks amazing. Spending winter days in front of a hot BBQ eating seafood that's as fresh as it gets! Gotta add a trip to Fukuoka to the bucket list. 😍

Can't wait to watch yer man with his two strong legs exploring Fukuoka.
Its traditional in Myajima, just half an hour by train from Hiroshima - absolutely delicious... there signature dishes are those grilled oysters and omelette with oysters...

Can't wait to see you travel Japan 🥳 brada Dale
His wife and son are soo lucky to travel all over the world and eat different food 🫡💕
Hi, Mark! I'm from Tokyo. I truly enjoyed your video. You were eating seafoods so deliciously.
Even as a Japanese, I've never experienced that gorgeous meal🤤
Thank you very much!
Hi Awaji, Fukuoka has a lot to offer when it comes to food. Ofc, Tokyo too. Over the years I hear many actors, comedians etc move from Tokyo to Fukuoka mainly for the food, then fly or take the Shinkansen for work. Fish, seafood and meat is great in Fukuoka. Saga beef is just as good as Kobe beef. Yakitori is not just chicken, very diverse.
@@mikaellarsson7932 Hi, Mikael. I've never been to Fukuoka, I must, must go! It's interesting that food is attracting people.
I'm originally from an island, called Awaji Island, next to Kobe. Actually, this island is a hidden spot for food lover.
Surrounded by the sea and mountains, the Island is full of delicious gourmet food, seafood, vegetables and Awaji beef.🤤
@@awajiislander3843 Hello Islander! Yes, visit Fukuoka, now soon sakura and also a short season for wild forest plants like fiddlehead fern, great as tempura. The oyster season on the quays in Itoshima etc is coming to an end, but you can get good seafood at the fish market or in Bayside Place etc. I have not been to Awaji Island, but close. Was in Akashi and had some very good octopus and squid. Also in Kobe and had beef, maybe Awaji beef? Maybe one day I can visit Awaji, it sounds great! All the best.
@@mikaellarsson7932 I see, there are many different kinds of local food you can eat only in Fukuoka. I need to plan for the next oyster season!
About Kobe beef, originally many calves raised in Awaji Island become Kobe beef later. I'm glad to know you already enjoyed beef and octopus.
Sakura in Tokyo have begun blooming🌸, so already busy taking photos. Have a wonderful day!
great food show ❤❤❤❤❤❤
That looks so fun grilling your own seafood, I'm loving this Japan series Mark
Beautiful, clean, and Japanese people so polite and disciplined.
Oyster huts are such a fun experience that I’ll recommend to any seafood lover. The second hut, Nisshin-maru is actually a name of a boat, probably owned and operated by the family. It’s usually the case that they cater for those who want to go fishing in the area by charging a small fee. If you’re into fishing, that should be fun as well.
Good advice 👍
Very cool, thank you for sharing that!
The whaling boat? 👎
This is quality content 😊, always waiting for the next episode. Its nice to come home from home with a notification of a new video knowing that its going to be a good 20-30 minutes of relaxing.
These Japanese series are so relaxing and joyful to watch. Thanks man!
I love fresh seafood, it’s a shame we don’t have this every where it’s so healthy for you.
Unfortunately, we can't all be so lucky to be on a coast 😆
Your content keeps on improving. You are amazing Mark! Thanks!
Mark: as it heats that heat its starting to clap
Scallops: high pitched scream! 😅
You have the dream job traveling and eating great food have safe travels mark and God bless you and your family
Great to see such authentic food again. Mark, you inspired me to start traveling, and the last two videos might get me to japan. Thank you for your great efforts and contributions to show the world to people the way it is. I followed your channel on and off since the beginning, and you still bring places and foods a way that brings good vibes, a smile and interest to seek out myself. Thank you for that. Hang on and with the kindest regards, Bas
Hey Bas, thank you for your kind message and support over the years. Great to hear that, and I hope you can visit Japan soon!
My Gout in my ankle just flared up just by watching this. Lol. The seafood looks so good.
You're in Japan now? Man I'm jealous. One of my dreams is to eat my way through Asia!😅 I'm glad you are there to lead the way. Blessings to All 🙏
Got to do it... I did and since then I hardly like any other food... especially Japanese, but im général asian food is just like fresh...
FYI, that's not just any charcoal they use there. Look up bincho-tan for a bit of background. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems in Japan! And that citrus is yuzu. As you mentioned it is quite acidic, but when pounded into a paste with pepper to make yuzukosho it is something to behold!
I love Yuzu, but how make the paste?
I guess the tastier the food is, the more Mark leg spread apart. 🤣
Watching all the way from Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
They way you keep your enthusiasm while saying: "it tastes a bit rubbery"...love it! 😃
Wow! Alots of seafoods of different kinds , shape and sizes. Good seing how Fukuoka oyster hunt like.
Tasty, lucky I’m eating now
Hi Mark, if there is ever Noble Prize for food Vlogging you will win it hands down

Mark I absolutely love your channel and content. Thank you for sharing these adventures with us. I wish I had the ability or wealth to travel as much as you do!
Mark is moving forward to another level on 2023 ❤️
Hi Mark, my family & I love your content, not only for the amazing dishes you allow us to experience throughout your travels, but also your complete appreciation & acknowledgement of all the various cultures you celebrate along the way. We call abalone "Paua" here in New Zealand, prior to the shellfish being sliced, was it tenderised? I only ask this as we gather & include alot of freshly harvested seafood in our diet. Again thank you for including all of us in your journey
You should start including how much the cost is. Very helpful for vacation/eating budget planning!!!
Thank you for making this video Mark, even natives don’t always go to places like these, they’re kind of considered “old school” non locals don’t bother visiting
Hello from Alabama! Mark I hope you, Ying, and Micah are doing well. Wishing you healthy and safe travels. As always love your content.
Please visit Mozambique, Sudan and Mali

Just incredible. Before I was halfway through this episode, I was so hungry. Though we don't have such venues where I live, we do have some great sushi bars. It's beginning to look like a sashimi night for me.
Amazing!
Loved “Little Mark” (unsure of your boys name), Sneakily toasting his marshmallow over the grill while you were reading the menu. This kid is going to experience some amazing foods in the coming years!
Mika is his name

What a great discovery for me. I never knew these places existed - have always just gone to the big cities in Japan. Thank you so much, Mark!

Glad you enjoyed Japan. Please come to my hometown, Kumamoto, if you have a chance. Kumamoto is a prefecture south of Fukuoka and within close proximity. It has great food such as horse meat, red beef, and Kumamoto ramen.

Thank you very much, oh great to hear you are from Kumamoto. Unfortunately couldn't make it there on this trip... but we did go to Miyazaki and Kagoshima.
Hi Mark. Enjoy watching your videos. I guess this is the first time you have not added any kind of spice or chilles to your food.
What I’m impressed about this video is that he hit local spots exactly😊
I’m from Fukuoka and no many foreign travelers go to Kyushu island, but a lot of Japanese visit here to eat delicious food.
If you still are in Kyushu, try Charcoal grilled chicken(地鶏)and chicken sashimi, which are my favorite and super tasty!!
Plzz visit my Chinal For best street foods
A haiku for this video.
Clams and oysters die

I want to eat oysters and abalone right now!!! 😅
Love your work. Been watching for 5 + years and I finally made an account to say thank you. I wish I could be your editor. Leave more room for recording. You deserve your own TV show
How do you do this all with having a kid as well? It's like I've watched him grow up. My sons is 8 and 3
The thought that a plain pumpkin is good and you give a reaction of savoriness and warmth through the vid solidify my statement
Mark makes eating fun! I want to eat with him.
Me too . I really wish I could. That would make my life .
The only thing better than watching him eat would be to eat with him
When Mark said “glove up”. I felt that
Another great clip, Mark. Nice to see Fukuoka, glad you enjoyed the city. When we lived there we often went to Itoshima to eat oysters and other grilled seafood. Most of the time skipped rice and veggies, only ate oysters, clams, abalone and squid. Some of the huts are just temporary tents on the quays. They often also give you a plastic apron because the oysters often squirts a lot of hot juice when being grilled. Sorry to be picky, but the pollock roe is called mentaiko, not menta or memta. It is a speciality of Fukuoka. It is excellent and quite pricey. There are special shops for it in the city and it is a popular gift. But then the skin of the roe has to be intact. One can buy broken ones at a third of the price. If one is going to eat them the same evening in a sashimi bowl the taste is the same. And ofc the first thing one does is to break them. Another trick is to shop after 6.30 PM, many fish, seafood and veggies are at half price. Many Japanese eat early. Fukuoka and surroundings is a great place for food, both fish, seafood and meat and more. Soon now a short season for rare wild plants like fiddlehead fern and others, great as tempura. Arigato for the clips!
You overcooked every piece of beautiful seafood after the first 5 minutes. When you took the scissors to the squid it was rubber. 😂
One of the best eats in this channel imo
Awesome 👌 seafood done by yourself 😋
I would love to see him and Sas collaborate. ❤❤ I love watching both of them!!
I'm Brazilian, but with Japanese ancestry. my grandparents came from Okinawa. I had the opportunity to visit the region a few years ago, I think you should visit the region, the food there is fantastic 😁
Great to hear that Andreia, we did stop by quickly in Okinawa this trip, unfortunately couldn't stay too long, but a few videos coming.
Yummy
Ugh.. such beautiful abalone 🥲 Few things make me go wild like a new episode from Mark that involves seafood in East Asia 😅 let us bow down to this wonderful food and this wonderful guy who takes us to so many special places! And wow, those oysters look ridiculous too.. this is too much!
Sea food brain food hookum to cookum
you want to bow down to mollusks??? okay...
@@joshjones718 you want to blow seed? okay...
You should see the Pāua (abalone) we have here in New Zealand, bro. That would be a normal size😁
