CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA - Welcome to Charleston, one of the food capitals of the United States, and home to some of America’s best oysters. Today we’re going on a seafood tour of Charleston, especially focusing on the incredible oysters.
Barrier Island Oyster Co. (www.barrierislandoysters.com/)
We’re starting this seafood tour at the Barrier Island Oyster Co., who are responsible for growing and serving some of the best oysters in South Carolina - in the United States. One of their signature oysters are the sea clouds, which have an extraordinary balance of flavor. It was amazing to see the process and behind the scenes of how oysters are grown before they reach your table.
The Ordinary (goo.gl/maps/gVGzwuLxu9EThtjS6)
Next up we headed to The Ordinary, a well known seafood restaurant, serving a mix of seafood and especially fresh oysters and an outstanding raw bar. Food was delicious.
Total price - $163 for everything
Chubby Fish (goo.gl/maps/BdEn8A8YHf8fEQme9)
One of the restaurants I was most looking forward to trying in Charleston was Chubby Fish with Chef James London. He’s a legendary chef in South Carolina using the freshest seafood ingredients in creative and vibrant combinations. We had the oysters, and some more sea clouds, and an array of outstanding other local seafood dishes. Chubby Fish was without a doubt one of the best meals I ate in Charleston.

Going from place to place, seeing cultures, tasting food, travelling around, meeting people.
Honestly marks kid has the best childhood ever, haha.
Saturday s with Mark are always the best days ever. I lived in Charleston SC for a few years back in 1984. It was a fantastic place to live. The basket markets where still there….what a great place to live.
Wow, very impressed with Josh from Barrier Island Oyster Co, the amount of knowledge and respect for his craft was admirable, well done. Everything looks so delicious and well sourced, outstanding!
his knowledge and preserving of the habitat was mindblowing, awesome, and heart warming all in one. such a great group of people.
Dad was an oyster farmer in Australia, I resented it as a kid, back in the 70's, it was a hard life. Technology has made it a lot easier these days and you can make a good living out of it. Looking back, we had a good solid upbringing and being out on the water all the time kept us in touch with nature and gave us a good work ethic
I grew up in North Charleston! Awesome place to live and eat!!
Who remembers Mr.Bean😅😅😅
me
i love than scene
Mark, 29:25 was my EXACT same reaction when I first had that plate, plus a tear came out from how delicious it was. I'm soo glad you went to Chubby Fish! Along with the feel of the neighborhood, this was an unforgettable dining experience!
I saw your comment and was waiting for it. He reacts so well with each bite…. But with that one, it truly blew his mind. It looks and sounds mind blowing! So lucky you’ve gotten to try it!
There's something so satisfying with watching Mark eat, especially oysters. His positivity is just so inspiring and soothing to watch
MMMMMM OH WOW ITS SO JUICY
whoa oh wow.
You can tell he really really enjoyed that food man idk if I’ve ever seen him that happy before!!😂😂😂
Welcome to Charleston! As a local, it’s great to see our local delicacies featured!
It's awesome that the Chef at Chubby Fish, was so prepared for how much you like spicy food. He seemed to truly enjoy cooking for your family:)
Thank you so much, Mark, for teaching me about the amazingness of my own country. America is so large and it’s so hard to understand the differences in states and cultures within the United States.
Think about how close France, Italy and Germany are to each other, and how different their cultures and food are.
American states have a similar independence, and food culture. It’s amazing.
I’m from Colorado, I might have to plan a trip to go over there for some seafood!
@@forteandblues rocky mountain oysters :P
Do not forget how many wars France, Germany and Italy had.
Us only one civil war.
@@dpt6849 you’re comparing countries to states of course there is a difference.
HI Mark and your dear family. My family recently began watching your travels. We are going on a 10 day Boston/Maine trip this month inspired by you! We have reservations at the Union Oyster House and will later make way to the Cabbage Island Clam Bake before heading to Bar Harbor. We're big seafood lovers of all kinds! My wife is Thai and I'm from Miami. We're in Houston now. We never thought we'd be going to Charleston, but that changed after seeing this experience of yours! Thanks much... The Murphy's
Mark looks so happy and in his element sitting at a table with a giant pile of beautiful oysters 🙂 That's some fresh eating right there!
The family all watch him, we love his trade mark "lean over" when he tastes lol
@@adamcarter699 haha - that lean is definitely a trademark by now 🤣
Mark is the best food blogger, eats some of the finest food in the world but isn’t pretentious and you can tell it’s an authentic reaction.
Oh wow!
I concur he very legitimately loves what he does and it shows
Bro some people who watch mike chen hate Mark for being fake and I'm like wtf
@@Zephyr425lo dudo
? It's the same exact reaction Every Single Time! Eyes bucked out, mouth nawing, mmmmmmm sound, explanation of the flavor. Since how long? Still good content by my dude but yo... come tf on now
The chef at Chubby Fish was amazing! I want to go to Charleston now just to have his cooking 😍🤩😍🤩😍
Native South Carolina here!!! Once you've tasted our unique seafood and BBQ, you'll be back ......I PROMISE!!!! Nothing else compares to those oysters though. I'm sure that hot sauce is Texas Pete.
Marks smile and squint you know it's good I love him and his family so nice respectful just a joy to watch him eat
Me checking on how far it is to Charleston just to eat at Chubby Fish! That is one of the most interesting menus I've ever seen!! I would have never thought of incorporating shrimp into a bone marrow dish, but I'm so here for it!!! You can tell the chef is so proud of his food and I have to try it!!! Great video as always Mark!
One of your best episodes ever, and I've been watching for six years!
Mark, I think you misidentified The Ordinary as Chubby Fish at 11:31 minutes 😬 … Regardless, love seeing you featuring Charleston. 👍🏻 It’s great place to live and more people need to know about it!
You're right. That definitely wasn't Chubby Fish.
Your reactions are priceless 😅 it's like you're having food for the first time in weeks and it's the same for everything you try. Your passion for finding hidden delicacies all over the world is truly amazing 🦐
His reactions are the same
...montage always the same..
@@gladlawson61 He makes everything look even more amazing.
" oOOhH WOOW" every dish (and then his eyes need collaberation) O_o
@@mentalasylumescapee6389 Yeah that's what intrigues the viewers more 😅 it might be all a marketing technique, but still it seems so realistic.
Apparently there a course where they teach you to roll your head back and close your eyes and say Wow on the way back a few times and you also get a certificate and a Lemon at the end from what I've heard, which you can squeeze on any dish!
On the certificate it says "Oh Wow, oh wow ,oh wow and ho ho ho " you can then also apply for Santa Claus jobs.
Quite frankly Marc Wiens watching your episodes brings me not only very useful & delicious information but hours of joy . Thank you !
Love where your videos are going Mark. Have always entertained and given me a window to global cuisine at a humble level. Doing a lot of these behind the scenes, is deserving to your hard work and consistency. 🙏🏽 bless you and your family pop!
Marvellous! Mark goes to the side of the road and holds a sign that says: ""Will travel for Food"", lol 😆😁
Got very sick. Just got robbed outside of restaurant😢😮
I like how you always take your family with you on your trips, must be an amazing life
Wow Mark, thank you, and WOW Charleston, beautiful food. I love how the whole Oyster farming was explained and how they celebrate and respect the whole eco system of Oyster farming. Just amazing! 👏
The location title of the first place at 11:28 should be 'The Ordinary,' but it says 'Chubby Fish.' Friendly reminder. 😁
I am immensely enjoying your great content and admire your professionalism. 🙇🏻

Mark as always you bring the best to us and I really want to commend that chef, because he not only prepared your meals, but explained what each dish was. and when you can get a chef to do such , that is definitely an honor... I hope to visit this plain , it definitely will go on my wish list..
Yayy you made it to South Carolina! On my birthday lol! I have been subscribed to you guys since 2018 and have been a fan ever since! I am Korean-American living in South Carolina! I hope you and your family have a wonderful time!
Mark i owned and operated several restaurants in south Carolina. Im a bit of a food historian concerning the addition of slaves in the USA. You have managed to delve deeply into the great foods of Charleston and also the Gullah cooking and their history. Good Job!

Hey mark your in the place nice lovely content as usual
Good choice with Chubby Fish. We've been there twice, most recently last week. Love their lamb ribs, wahoo curry and whole fish. Another restaurant I highly recommend for good seafood in downtown Charleston is Pearlz. Also, the Glass Onion in West of the Ashley has amazing shrimp and grits.
Ciao grande Mark 👍👋
I hope everyone is having an amazing day!
Wow Mark you are the best the food looks Delicious 😋 thanks for sharing another great video 📹
Been a long time follower Mark. Back when you first got started. My wife and I have your shirts mi ped mi kin. My wife is Issan Ban Mon Chaiyaphum and we live here in Texas. If it ain’t spicy we won’t eat it. Enjoy your tours and your incredible variety of foods your have eaten in the past 6 years or so. You have grown simply because of your frankness and honesty. Never see you….welll….never say never but being disgusted with some orders. Looks like you always have respect and tolerance. Believe this as I believe that you can eat everything that doesn’t eat you first.
You are and inspiration for all food vloggers
The fact that we get free food review videos on UA-cam by Mark is truly a gift. 👏👏👏
When has anyone ever paid for a food review? All food reviews are free.
He's getting thousands of dollars every video from ads if his content wasn't free he wouldn't even made it past 10,000 subs.
