I agree. If cops had to have insurance cover for their wrongful actions the prosecutors would be less likely to allow trumped up charges in the attempt to avoid the city or country from being sued and losing tax payer money and all the nasty lying state vs citizen business would be avoided.

I accept there is a good reason for Qualified Immunity, but at this point the damage its doing far outweighs the good. I also don't see why keys figures in deciding a case are not allowed to witness the body cam footage for themselves. EG. a Judge and both prosecuting and defending councils should ALWAYS have access to VIEW body cam footage. They don't have to provide a copy of the footage that could be misused/released to public, just be able to 'view' it.
its not qualified immunity that is the problem. the problem is with cops involved, no laws seem to matter. 42:1983 should make qualified immunity not exist. 18:242 should result in the officers involved all facing charges for their actions. prosecutorial misconduct like charging the victim should mean they lose their ability to practice law. but no matter which type, it should remove them from the legal system. eventually they would learn to stop hiding discovery and charging victims to delay and cause further injury.

Any names on the warrant of who they were looking for, is it customary for the officers involved to wear body cameras on warrant raids , if not why. There's much more to the story not being told .

@jamesemick1452 If what they said was true then there would be blood splatter to prove it and the pool of blood would be in front of the couch and spread out if he was struggling. But the pool of blood was under the couch and in one place that proves he wasn't struggling.
They even said he went to the ground and not back onto the couch so they are clearly lying.
They should have to show the video cam footage, refusal to do so is more than enough proof it's a cover up. I find it hard to believe they did a no knock raid at night without body cams.

The officers should not be able to disable their equipment. The recordings should be able to be terminated after a specific period of time. That's assuming there's no active investigation involving that recording.

Agree. All video is held for 90 days. If there is a question then turn the video over to a grand jury to review. The grand jury decides what gets released and what doesn't.

The evidence wouldnt just be displayed for public courtroom, it would have already been reviewed by all counsel and the judge and they would be able to make adjustments to the situation. facts can still be added to the jury as evidence even tho it cant be presented personally. as another note, if audio is just needed then the argument goes out the window. 3. extreme case? happens plenty already and some is still presented as well as other avenues, as previously stated, according to the situation at hand.
The camera footage original should not be editable and any copies will have been marked in their codes to be identified as copies and blah blah why cant be presented BUT the original can be still viewed by necessary parties for authenticity and other reasons. If wearing uniform, cam should always be rolling. If cruiser is being operated in any way, camera, including vehicles, should be running. This prevents any outside forces from manipulating evidence(not including new tech updates that might upset this, thus continuing the perpetuating cycle of the tech fields)

@@nicechock the laws for deadly force are supposed to be basically the same for citizens and officers. That is deadly force is justified when there is an imminent threat of serious bodily harm or death and the forced used is reasonable and necessary to stop that threat.
The problem is that the courts don't apply that consistently for both officers and citizens.
It should be a requirement for officers and agents to wear body cameras especially during house raids.

There should be a federal law that requires all police to upload their body cameras to the internet for all citizens to review. Every single day. They should also not be allowed to mute the audio. It would protect thousands of citizens from being wrongfully imprisoned.

Senior Trooper Jones, was out of control but his back up were complicit in this man’s attempted murder and attempted cover up. They have to stop rewarding these extreme bad practices with taxpayers money. There has to be terminations, decertifications and jail time or these sadistic tyrants will never learn.

I’m a senior citizen that moved here from Maryland almost 5 years ago I have been brutally harmed arrested twice I have West Virginia horrible jail, and Ohio police threatened me with arrest. Over trying to find an Over trying to find a doctor through the emergency rooms and and there’s no help. They dropped all the charges on me after a year and a half of hell I have PTSD now that I’ve never had before a senior citizen on disability.
So lying under oath hmmm that should result in immediate disbarred and no chance of ever being a cop again
