Don't you love that government gives us tickets for not wearing our seatbelt, yet their vehicles they use to forcibly transport us, including school buses, many times do not have seatbelts?
Details: thecivilrightslawyer.com/2024/03/21/cops-take-homeless-man-for-a-ride-now-paralyzed-double-amputee/
This issue came up in Iowa regarding school busses and, while the research is not completely clear on the issue, the propensity of the evidence (so to speak) is that so long as certain conditions regarding the distance between the seats, etc, are met, school busses are safer for children without seatbelts. The thing is, though, the seats have to be set very close together so that the occupants are packed in like sardines. That police van left far too much room in that compartment, which allowed an unrestrained single occupant to be thrown around like a rag doll.
I am not an engineer or expert of any sort on safe transportation for humans but I imagine that if there had been 6 or 8 human detainees packed into that compartment, it would have been unpleasant but a lot safer than putting one person in it.
I find it very suspicious that the officers involved kept talking about giving Mr. Sanchez-Mayan "the ride." As if the ride were the point and not so much the destination. Reminds me unpleasantly of the old cliché "you might beat the rap but you won't beat the ride." It's hard to believe that nothing has happened to those two officers.
"They don't care, they don't change their ways, they need to take the ride"
The United States is one big fema camp. Don't worry about Walmart
Wait till you get a seatbelt ticket from an officer riding a motorcycle. Peace/JT
Does it matter when they park the cruiser on train tracks or mag dump the car when an acorn drops from an oak?

@Cbus83 Hey, that’s catchy.
They planned to erase him , he was just lucky to live ; if that is living ! Thery need to be tried for premeditated attempted murder , why do you think they threw his belongings in the trash before leaving , they never planned for him to survive and knew he would never need his belongings again !

You would not say that if your daughter tried to play soccer in that field with Jose and his unzipped pants that day. Think before ya talk airhead
So the male cop thinks being homeless should be a felony? Hope him or his family never fall under hard times. Im gonna write you a ticket, oh wait actually let me cause you some more financial grief. We're gonna arrest you.
Agree, There is a war on poor people and not on poverty. Law enforcement is the Army used against them.
They planned to erase him , that is why they threw his effects in the trash before hand , they already knew he would never need them and this is the 3rd time that satanic gang member has done this exact thing@@richardkeen5828

Would be nice if this man could sue this cop and take his home os the cop could see what it's like to be homeless
@@MichaelMoore-rc7ch If he loses qualified immunity he could be sued personally. The problem is he probably doesn't have much to take. So if this case is worth millions of dollars you will have to sue the city or the county anyway. Unfortunately he probably wouldn't lose his home. Although it would be nice to see him sleeping in a vacant lot on a cardboard box.
cops treating the homeless as evil is disgusting.
Police claim there are not enough of them to handle violent crime but yet here are 3 officers on a bs call wasting time.
Legit, an hour wasted and for what.
900 000 cops in America
Well, just remember, it's you libs who call the cops on homeless people like this.
Just an excuse to ask for more taxpayrr funding. They do that everywhere, every year.
And why couldn't they transport him in one of their cars? They specifically called for the punishment van.
The man lost both legs, is paralyzed, and is only asking for $70k? Shouldn't his attorney be asking for millions?
That's all he can afford. It's absolutely absurd that something like this happens ALL THE TIME anywhere in Florida.
Being homeless is not a crime.
Neither was him being where he had been sleeping at.
Even if there were signs, even they have statutes in that state,it still wouldn't be a serious offense.
That is unbelievable. Isn't Florida part of the United States? And not North Korea? Or China?

I don't understand that eitehr. The man lost both his legs and is going to need medical care and assistance for the rest of his life. That 70k won't last more than a couple months of care if that.
This women officer is gross. Just her attitude and tone she has right off the start

The way she talked down to the man…
This is a great example of cops getting off on demeaning them and acting morally superior while terrorizing
Can't Understand Normal Thinking
"Any soiled stuff throw away" aka everything but his phone
Imagine owning almost nothing and the cops throw it in a dumpster. Smh.
I swear they get such a rush looking through peoples belongings. They get so excited. 🤬
I'm from Saint Pete and I can't stand the SPPD. This was in June in Florida. High 80s, 75% and over humidity. Dude was trying to get some shade and wait out the heat of the day. It's the only way homeless survive down here in the summer. Shade to wait out the heat.
The cops don't let them sit in these parks and side lots. So what do they do? They hang out near the alleyways downtown. They poop behind all the businesses. Where else is there for them to go or use the bathroom? The way the cops and city hall handle this is despicable. There is no humanity there. No compassion. They spend all this money catering to Bill Edwards, a rich con-man who defrauded thousands of veterans, and other nonsense and have nothing but brutality for the people who are suffering.
But it was "soiled" and smelled bad. Basically they treated his belongings the same way they treated him. Like garbage.

It is a felony in Tennessee. Punishable with up 6 years in prison.
What they did to this man will come back on their families and they'll never make the connection that their actions that day caused their family member to reap the repercussions
@@TheHarleyhillbillythat is absolutely disgusting...it's a easy way for them to keep prisons full and provide slave labor to corporations
The felony thing makes perfect sense sense once you realize that the cops could use it to upgrade you from a petty crime or misdemeanor to a felony just by stacking charges. Trespassing + failure to ID + interference with an investigation + disturbing the peace + resisting arrest without violence. Suddenly you’ll plead guilty to all of them to just avoid the felony upgrade, and the cop comes out smelling like a rose to their superiors.
Makes me sick, arrogant and uncaring. They can do it though because of qualified immunity and the union
When she says, "He won't change his ways, what can we do?" The answer should be easy. Become a human being with a soul.
That lady cop kept acting like a condescending b*tch.
I always thought that taking someone "for a ride" is, in fact, a police euphemism for exactly what these two thugs did to this man.
That's exactly wtf it is. That's why they were having that whole dialogue when putting shackles on him. But specifically watch the face of the female officer who's jus standing there. It's all over her face that she knows what's going on and isn't saying anything.
My sentiments TO A T. I just said to myself oh my god out loud because I realized this was all intentional. Wow.
It's called "a nickel ride". Meant to cause injury.
To get a "ride" in the paddy wagon has been a tradition for a long time. When I was a truant kid in the late 70s and early 80's I had plenty of rides unsecured in the back of a wagon. The officer would take a drive through the local park which had steep hills and inclines at a good pace and hit the brakes while yelling " look out for that stray dog!". You would go flying. After a while they would release you in a different neighborhood
@@ddz1375 thank you for the insight, that is truly disgusting behavior for any human cop or not.
This lady cop make me sick. She should be in prison.
The female officer was callous and uncaring, but I don't think her arresting the guy was completely unreasonable, esp if he was a chronic offender. The law is the law. Sure, she seems pretty jaded, but it's hard for me to be too judgemental of that. It's certainly not a crime. And once she made that decision and passed him off to the van driver, her responsibility was over.
The driver, on the other hand, is an incompetent ass and should definitely be charged with a crime.
@@wrc1210 She is just as much a piece of shit. She acts like she is so high and mighty. Wait til she is on her own deathbed and doesn't have any power, then she will be begging forgiveness.

Because the guy driving the van has actually done this before. They literally stood there and talked about how they want to be able to charge him with a felony but can't. They wanted to punish him.
It's was all a show of force, respect my AUTHORITI!!!!
75 thousand? They should be suing for 75 MILLION.

To cite a homeless person for being homeless is unjust, cruel and unusual punishment.

Was very popular in apartheid SA, remember Beko.
Yep! It is totally purposeful. Many have suffered.
I agree, the policewoman didn‘t mean a normal ride in a car, listen to the sound of her voice. In December 2002 two German policemen detained a drunk homeless young man and exposed him at freezing point on the outskirts of Stralsund, a town on the coast of the Baltic Sea. He died. The officers lost their jobs and were send to jail for 39 months. In Germany police officers lose their job forever after being convicted for at least 12 months.
Freddy Gray, Baltimore, died during his rough ride. The broken neck could have happened from the pre arrest chase, but the brakes, cuffed but not safety belted made it fatal.

@@ranger-1214 I hope so, it’s heartbreaking what they did to him.
@lizbethharrison1934 Exactly, many jurisdictions will not allow you to demand over a certain amount because of the appearance of suing someone for 15 million dollars etc. Just the sound of that can ruin a business even if the case against them fails. 6 are required to demand " a sum in excess of (whatever the minimum amount to demand for that specific court) During trial, the exact amount is requested and provided to the judge/jury.
$10,000,000.00
I think in that jurisdiction you have to declare if you are suing for more than 75k or less than 75k. They will later put the actual amount they are asking for but for now they are just stating that it will be for more than 75k. 75k is the threshold for diversity cases to be heard in Federal Court instead of State Court so maybe that's why they ask you to declare if it's over or under 75k.

A $75,000 lawsuit? I think that's missing at least 1 or 2 zeros. Also there should be charges brought against these disgraceful officers.
It is in excess of $75k. There is a minimum for damages before federal courts have jurisdiction over a non federal violation.
Standard minimum to meet the statutory requirements. In will end up in the millions, but this just sets the bar for the suit.
Courts and jury will decide monetary damages, if the state lets it get to court.

people should have a nice protest at this police station!!! This is insane.. take back your city people...
Throwing his belongings in the garbage is likely a crime. It’s not theirs to dispose of , when they take him, they’re supposed to catalog and inventory that stuff. This sheer arrogance is here is nauseating
They did that to me both times I was arrested when homeless in Colorado. Never had more than 2 bags too
She said... I have decided...
She seriously believes she's The Authority. The dude was SLEEPING!!!
He should get millions!!!
Wow …. Out of control cops !!! … Horrible interaction with the public
"I've decided that you're going to jail today" - the incredible arrogance involved in that one statement is mind boggling. She's now judge and jury? Malevolent people like this have no business carrying a weapon or wearing a badge.
They openly mock him and talk about teaching him a lesson
And cops wonder why…we the citizens hate them, disgusting tyrant cop!
"Doesn't change his ways." She just described the majority of cops.
It is disgusting how the police treat their fellow man.
He was just sleeping on a vacant lot. What is the problem with that?
No compassion whatsoever.
Throwing out his property.
Truly disgusting.
Negligent, nasty, condescending, careless. A waste of resources. How many cops and cars? For one compliant, polite and apologetic man asleep on a vacant lot. Who is the criminal?
I wonder if the local community feels safer now?
Poor bloke. A true victim of the uncaring police state.
There is a police culture on display here for all to see.
And now he's being used by his family to bilk money out of the system. i feel for dude no one actually gives a shit about him.
@@PeenWienerstien How would you know that. Just because he's homeless doesn't mean nobody cares for him.
@@jazzforme2u If his family cared enough to get him a place to stay, he wouldn't be paralyzed, and he'd have both of his legs right now. Now they're suing the police department. They're just as disgusting as the police who did this to him.
These police are disgusting. That sneering couple of officers’ lack compassion for other human beings… the contempt they have for this man is beyond belief.
@@PeenWienerstien how do you know his family didn't do just that and he left?
"you dont change your ways" Yeah just stop being homeless dude stop being homeless. That'll instantly help. The THICK Blue Line and all that
Well he’s changed his ways now because he will be dependent for the rest of his life - shame on these tyrants - the inhumanity is mind boggling
Exactly. Why doesn't he just go find a million dollars somewhere and buy a house, car and groceries. Geez. I can't believe he keeps wanting to be homeless. The nerve of some ppl just wake up and want to be homeless
@@jamesbroomfield7799 I'm ashamed to call myself human when I know that people actually choose to not have a home. Like, who doesn't want a roof over their head? Blows my mind so it does. 'Mon the coppers for taking it upon themselves to rid us normals of this problem.
The cops don't change their ways either. Unfortunately
Pure evil.
Pure evil. Absolutely disgusting how some of these cops treat people. This is absolutely disturbing. Dragging his unconscious body like that.
His life wasn't hard enough they had to torment a defenseless man? He'll need way more than 75K just for medical and assistance.
These psychos prey upon the weak.
@@truthandreality4650 That's RW-politics; the legalization of predatory-RW actions of RW-sociopaths & RW-psychopaths. It peen happening for centuries upon millennia.
Paralyzed and a double leg amputee for trespassing in Jerkwater, USA.
But the signs weren't there so the cops weren't even justified in the first place.
Being homeless was the worst crime apparently.
You don't change your ways??? Change yours!! Who is this woman Officer??
I bet if you ask her why she became a police officer she'll say she did it to help people.
So wrong!!! !He isnt giving them any grief!!! They had no business throwing his property away!!!!!°
A bag. Not right but I bet you have never been around homeless that pass out and piss all over themselves and the belongings they have for months in the summer.
@@skinlab4239The cops should be doing what the law dictates NOT what their nose dictates. Yes, homeless folks often smell disgusting and their things are gross. But cops, by law, aren’t allowed to violates people’s rights based on how they look, smell, how clean they are, how their stuff smells.
Both officers should be charged and jailed. Their behavior is beyond shameful, it's criminal. This man should be suing for a lot more than $75K.
They are. Probably millions.
yea. more like 7.5mil
All four Tyrants involved should be hold accountable not just two of them.
HE 100% BRAKED ON PURPOSE ... even wanted a year in jail for this violent criminal , BACK THE BLUE
What's wrong with the police now days. The old guy wasn't bothering a soul. So instead of doing real police work they to hassle a homeless person..
Taking a nap on a piece of cardboard-LET'S GET HIM!!!
Sounds about right!
They didn't just hassle him, they crippled him.
Because they’re so scared of their own shadow that they piss themselves anytime they encounter a human being not in uniform. They don’t know the law, and they’re only out to financially ruin people to generate enough revenue for their bloated salaries. They’re useless…
The police used to be much worse.
They only seem worse now because cameras are everywhere.
He was sleeping! Thank god they arrested him! I feel safe, don’t you?
I don't know how many more of these videos I can take. I'm utterly an completely disgusted about the sick minded officials letting cops get away with everything.
Sad people need to stop ignoring what is going on !
So easy to criminalize being homeless without explicitly saying it's illegal to be homeless.
Over 200 billion to Ukraine. For that amount we could end homelessness, rebuild infrastructure, create jobs and give healthcare to everyone, but let’s blame the homeless instead.
Send then another cheque slready
You could end homelessness as a country, you choose not to...
Helping defend Ukraine makes sense, funding the extreme terroristic Israeli government to kill over 20,000 women and children as collateral from american bombs is disgusting behavior... trillions to israel since 1948 and you're crying about Ukraine...? Your country can't even decide if everyone should get healthcare or not, stfu...
Being homeless is not a crime. Homeless people have Constitutional rights.
I hated how she treated him
The behavior and attitude of these LEOs is truly, truly sickening.
Truly sickening behavior ? No, it's vicious criminal behavior.
Sickening. And that’s BEFORE they paralyzed him
I have to stand up for the decent cops. They had previously warned him not to be sleeping rough on the streets. But he had persistently ignored their compassionate advice and continued to be homeless. Therefore they had no option but to abuse him & take him to jail.
"Leo's"???
@@aevans-jl9ymSo instead of putting him in a cruiser, they put him in a spacious van with no seatbelts and dragged him around pretending that they didn’t injure him?
As a floridian I am embarrassed and disgusted by our law enforcement. This is just one case. There's so many more. The police are out of control. We are in danger by the men and women that were hired given a badge and a gun to protect us, not from criminals that buy the car. Yes we are in danger people.
The joy she felt is palpable. She makes me sick. Why aren't they suing for more?
This is how police treat the downtrodden, and then look at how scared they are at Uvalde
paralyzing a man and throwing his things away should be a felony.
For us "normies" it would be.

It is a felony, even for them.
@@deborahhopkinson5243 funny how they almost never get charged or convicted.
