Allergic to good news, Microsoft following the Xbox Summer Games 2024 Showcase has announced a brand new price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate & Xbox Gamepass PC While at the same time removing day one releases in Xbox console game pass. In addition Microsoft is raising the price of Game Pass Core (Xbox Live Gold) which serves as a further slap in the face to their Xbox Series X & and Xbox Series S customers. Gamepass is now $8 more expensive on Console vs PC for the exact same feature set.

I cancelled game pass and PS+ ages ago. I lost my faith in gaming subscriptions. No thanks. I’ll buy the games I want to play, when I want to play them. I have a backlog. My backlog is my game pass. Done.

@@weplayvrgames it is a bit deceptive. It’s only a deal if you are in a very particular circumstance. Very often the game I want to play is not included. I end up spending more than $240 in gaming each year, but at least I choose my way. On the PS side the free monthly games are no longer good.
I am getting pretty sick of subscriptions myself and am also going back to just buying games. This is just ridiculous. My gamepass subscription expired last month and I never even bothered to renew it.

This is definitely my limit. I buy 3 MAYBE 4 games a year. I’m done after this. It doesn’t present a value for me anymore. I’m just gonna jump ship, build a PC and all consoles can fuck off.

I built my pc and traded in my Xbox about a year ago, definitely do not regret for a minute, I have spent around 240 on sales and stuff and I have 74 games, AAA too, come on Microsoft, do better.
Only consoles I got is an old ass PS3 and Switch, with a battleworn 3DSXL

well it kind of makes sense. Suppose there is a big day one release. Instead of buying it for 70 bucks or whatever, just sub to gamepass for a month. Play that game. Beat it. and then cancel your subscription. and then resub when the next big day one release comes out that you want to play. Beat it, and cancel again. You'd be surprised how many people do that. I don't know about you, but 90% of the games I play, are games I am probably not going to go back to once I've beaten them.
and add to that you still have to buy 95% of the good 3rd party AAA games.

First the introduction of a tier that does not have day one games is a the biggest slap to the face to the people who did support Gamepass from day one as it goes against its foundations.
The price increase for me was the last straw… the first 7 months of this year on GP / MS as a whole has been DRY AF… I was not using GP more than 5 times a month so why the heck am I paying for it? Asking for more is a major well this just lost all its value.

Is everyone really surprised by this? Once the Activision deal was sealed and they green lit Call of Duty on Gamepass, I knew the price was gonna increase.
The price was going to increase regardless. All subscription services get more expensive and generally worse over time. The next step for Game Pass (and many AAA games regardless of method of acquisition) is in-game advertisements.
What’s funny is this is against the rules of their deal to actually buy activision

I've been a GamePass sub since day 1, at $15 / month for ultimate it was a really good deal, but at $240 / year... I can get a pretty decent CPU for that cost, think it's time to upgrade my aging PC rig and just move on from consoles all together.
At 240$ a year you can have 3 day one releases and still 30$ left for some cheaper and older games.

At least with this price increase (as annoying as it is) we know for a fact that we’ll be getting even more content with this change in the form of the Activison+Blizzard library which is allegedly coming in August.

At the very least, they should have announced an Activision game or two being added to soften the blow. The price increase is literally $3 more a month. Over a 2yr period it comes to $72 which covers the cost of COD basically. If anyone planned on buying COD at least you don’t have to purchase the game and still be paying for games pass

I got into the Xbox ecosystem because of the PS5 shortages. That was a huge mistake, I should have just waited.
Going forward I will not invest anymore money into Xbox besides a Core subscription until I decide on my next platform. Probably Playstation.

Price increase was inevitable, they start with a lower price to maximize the userbase and increase over time to collect from complacent people who have gotten used to the service and won't think to cancel. Value proposition of gamepass gets worse and worse, to the point where it will just be cheaper to buy the few good games that come out every year. I don't support gamepass because it is subsidizing all of the worst practices of the industry, Microsoft's DEI policys, subpar quality releases that couldn't stand on their own (if they were sold at full price), and pre-ordering day and date games (which you are effectively doing when you leave your subscription on). Ultimately, what was a good deal for consumers in the short turn is going sour in the long term as gamepass proves its that it is a self defeating idea, as the incentive structure makes its unsustaiability inevitable (gamepass encourages mediocrity for aforementioned reasons). The company that makes good games will always win in the end.
Nailed it that’s why Nintendo seems to never miss (the point of the company that makes the good games) while having some of the worst consumer practices (amiibo, no backwards compatibility, account issues, worst online, worst store, oldest console and very anti rom, emulator and mod).

Switching to PC fully was one of the best things i ever did and ive saved so much money from it. My PC will pay for itself soon enough in savings.
Its mind boggling to me at this point how anyone could be ok with being forced to pay to use your own internet you already pay for separately. The sooner PSN and Xbox Passes die, the better. It needs to be set in stone that no company should ever be able to charge you additional money to use your own internet on your own device.

Day one releases, EA Play (never buy sports games again), MLB the show (Sony game) day one, but you pay full price on PlayStation, newer games etc., and 95% of games people play are on both consoles. Xbox has newer stuff in game pass, this is an objective fact! Why isn’t the last of us remake, or gow ragnarok on ps plus? Why isn’t helldivers on there!? Halo Infinite is a perfect example of this, it tried to recreate old Halo and massively failed. I could go to MCC if I wanted to play those old games, Halo 5 fixed a lot of problems, providing symmetric gameplay and also fixing melee sprint tech. It was a superior game.

Halo 5 is the lowest selling mainline Halo game because again they didn't make a Halo game they made a Titanfall lite game and the game died. Then Halo Infinite which is the closest feeling to classic Halo they've done but they screwed that up with bugs, missing modes and a stupid store that charged you for armor colors.
People want a Halo game that plays like Halo not a Call of Duty or Titanfall like Halo and they constantly fail because they're not making Halo so no they need to make a Bungie Halo game which is what made Halo popular and if they don't like it then they should quit as this is Halo make a Halo game.

There was all kinds of pushback over plus price increase. However, there was 0 pushback when xbox raised the price of gamepass around the same time last year. Since there was no pushback for xbox then, you get yet another price increase this year.

I'am pretty sure, they are trying to make as much money as possible before PS6 releases, because they know very well that they completely failed to appeal their player base with their rubbish exclusives and they have no chance of retaining this player base once the next gen console releases. So somehow making up for any future losses. Also, increasing price doesn't make any sense because it will only deter more customers instead of appealing them.
