I think what Nintendo does is smart. The way I see it: All hardware becomes outdated at some point, so you might as well choose the cheapest one. Give all your games stylized, cartoony visuals so no one can tell your system is outdated. You get a jump on the competition in pricing, your games are cheaper and easier to make, and you can focus more on gameplay. It's brilliant.
Yea but it does alienate them. 3rd parties don't all want to put out fun family friendly cartoony games. But we're finally getting borderlands and bioshock type games on Nintendo hardware
The key point is, they’re a video games company that also produces hardware. Sony and Microsoft are big tech companies who also happen to make video games on their own hardware. They way the industry is going, you need to be able to make good games quick. Nintendo has a natural advantage there.
Not all of Nintendo's games have stylized, cartoony visuals, at least not in every way. There games still look excellent, despite being on less capable hardware.
One point you missed out on was that fact that split screen is dead on Xbox and ps5 for the most part whereas the switch can be enjoyed solo, with a friend, or with a whole group.
Yeah and as much as I enjoy Xbox and PS gaming I love being able to play games with friends and family together like that. hell some of the best gaming I've done was playing games such as Mario Kart and Party (Ik that one isn't split screen but whatever) with relatives when we team up to try to have at least one of us beat the CPUs! Really wish that type of stuff was possible on the other two consoles..
and they have so many games that take advantage of it, while having even more which you can play solo. There is always something you can play with a group or on your own
True. Halo? Hasn't had Splitscreen for OVER A DECADE, Spiderman? Nope. COD? Pretty much only online focused. You can a big portion of the switch library in the same room like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Party, Pikmin, Warioware, etc...
@@MC-bo6ql Xbox link us still supported across every generation of their systems for Halo 2 and 3 however 16 player local is doable with identical copies on each system
It's also worth mentioning how Nintendo seems to be one of the few game companies that knows how to budget a game and doesn't see firing most of their staff as a viable business strategy. Most of the folks who made the original NES games are still working at Nintendo today, employee retention is like 98% or something crazy. There a folks who joined Sony's biggest developers only a couple of years ago who have now been laid off just so the line keeps going up. It's no wonder that Nintendo keeps chugging along at their own pace when not every game they make costs half a billion dollars to make and needs to sell 20 million units to break even.
It's because they never make anything new... so they never expanded. Every game they ever made and will ever make is the same IP over and over again. Sony and especially Xbox spend millions on experimenting. From Killzone, Last of Us, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, bloodborn, Ratchet and Clank, Deaths Stranding are ALL fundamentally different from eachother and all have a fresh start and not a 30 yearold history behind them.
@@Ted_Curtis idk what to you is a "big budget". Returnal is on PS5 is brand new. Rise of Ronin is also brand new. Cross gen games wore also brand new, just bcs they pushed both consoles doesn't mean it was innovative in fact I would say it was more so. You had to restrict your criteria (like budget and platform availability) so much despite it having nothing to do with creativity. Their London studios purpose was all about innovating and experimenting. They are constantly striving for something new.
What people tend to gloss over, or completely forget, is that Nintendo have been making toys/entertainment devices of some capacity since 1889. They look at Sony and Xbox as the new whippersnappers. In the beginning, they were legitimately competing. PS1/Xbox era. Now? Its Sony versus Microsoft. With Nintendo off doing their own thing. They dont worry about being the #1 that year, or that decade. They concern themselves with where they'll be much longer term. Being #1 is cool, but what's the point if you crash and burn? Sega, CDi, Game and Watch.. a lot of small time, and big time game companies have lived and died in Nintendo's shadow. Sony and Microsoft do market research to optimize sales, Nintendo optimizes for customer satisfaction... Except the Pokemon Company... That's.. different 🤷♂️
I've also realized that. I grew up in the 1980s and I still view Sony as an electronics company and Microsoft as a maker of irritating software. Nintendo is still the only one I view as a game making company.
@@xenobryan Yeah, I grew up later, but it remains true. Sony and Microsoft are, were and will be conglomerates with an emphasis on gaming CONSOLES. They largely outsource games. Nintendo is a game and game console company. Full stop. They outsource some games, sure. And they stock others on their console, but Nintendo is synonymous with Zelda, Mario, Splatoon more recently. The GAMES part. It's what the war was about in the beginning, and now it's what's made the war not worth fighting. PlayStation and Xbox fight in console specs now and auxiliary things. Nintendo has, is, and always will go with playability, games and enjoyment. It's not a dick measuring contest, and Nintendo already pioneered 3D graphics and a whole bunch more 🤷♂️😂
yea the pokemon company really only is a third nintendo and they mainly only publish the games its gamefreak who is in charge of actually making most games, creatures is in charge of the trading card game...
Yeah the pokemon really needs to go on a major vacation to recover after almost 30 years of non stop work like I like there new games but you can't ignore the bugs in scarlet and violet even if you like the game which I do
It's worth noting that Nintendo is the only console maker that is also portable. Having a mobile device as your gaming platform is a huge deal in today's market.
@@star-rock6466 I said guaranteed suceess. Their home consoles kept declining in sales from the NES till it hit rock bottom with the Wii U. Of course the Wii was a massive success and the first console since the SNES where Nintendo won a generation in terms of sales. Also the Switch is a handheld. No I do not care it can connect to a TV. It is a handheld first and foremost. Being able to connect to a TV is an extra benefit that they didn't even do first with a handheld. Home consoles don't have built in batteries for playing away from the wall nor do they have displays built into them. Also not the first handheld to support external controllers
I view the console wars like a restaurants. Nintendo being that expanding family-chain that guarantees a good time. Sony being those places where they cook the food in front of you and the staff is always hiring. Xbox being that fancy place where the everything is overpriced and the food doesn't even taste different... Iwata was and still is right but barely anyone still understands. I see people asking for Nintendo's next console to be just a specs upgrade with backward compatibility and nothing else.
@@nerdzone That would work quite well though. But they will have to change things up in another 6 years. I think the Switch 2 will be more of a continuation of the extremely successful switch rather then a new console. The new console will come out 6 years later.
@@lachlanB323 they should invent new stuff though, thats literally how we got switch itself. As much as I do like Xbox and PlayStation, there is something that just feels right about a console from an actual video game company. Something was definitely lost when the industry shifted from game developers making video game hardware like Sega, Atari, or SNK to giant mega-conglomerates like Sony or Microsoft. Nintendo is the last hold out from those days.
My way of thinking (and this could be completely wrong) is that Xbox and PlayStation have games that try to justify the new hardware’s existence. You constantly hear in marketing about how the game takes advantage of so-and-so Nintendo makes new hardware to facilitate their games. They’re not interested in the most advanced flashy stuff, they just make systems that can handle what they have planned for their games. Once the system gets old and/or their ideas get ambitious, they start work on a new system that can facilitate those games.
Since Sony focuses more on the Hardware ( since thats what they actually make in general ), they just design the new console and then make games for it. Honestly they didnt need a PS5 after releasing the PS4 Pro just a couple years before, specially since they didnt upgrade the experience in any meaningful way that affects the gameplay
The same Nintendo that put out the DS, Wii, and Wii U? I’ve always heard people say things like “this game makes use of the dual screens.” You had motion controls shoehorned into Wii ports and a lot of people didn’t know what they were doing. Most of what did well and played well on the Wii were the first party games. Wii U failed, in part, because third parties didn’t know what to do with the game pad. And yeah, I know you’re talking more about the specs, but when talking about hardware, gimmicks are just as important with Nintendo. Also, the last three consoles have been underpowered. Your exclusives are fine, but the Wii and Wii U ports are often watered down versions of the other ports.
-No massive layoffs -Secured exclusives -Online services (albeit kinda crappy itself) comes with a wide arrangement of classic games from several consoles
_Bought a good company to join them or porting the games to their console(I'm talking about shiver entertainment) Also when a good company went bankrupt they make some of the amazing developer join their team like alpha dream who make Mario and Luigi series for example maybe even working on Mario and Luigi Brothership it look so good❤
They have games, they have more games than ever actually. It's just that all thoses games are shared on all platforms. So what's left is the uniqueness of your hardware, and if there's none then why not just go to PC ? At least on Xbox the back compat program allow to play games not found on PC and devkit mode allow for emulation. Switch is the king of this console wars and Playstation had good exclusive but they are all going PC now. So... I guess in the near future lots of people will have either a PC or a Nintendo console (or both).
sony and microsoft games take up too much money, manpower and time to develop due to high specs of their consoles and would mostly layoff people when the game didn't make much profit. They are labelling their console to perform the most which pressured them to develop AAA games. Nintendo on the other hand tends to comfortably develop more games in a year since their console is not expected to have big budget games.
The thing is, Nintendo got a sharp kick in the butt with the wii u, and clearly they never wanted that to happen again, so EVERYONE went all out for the switch games. Zelda put out Breath of the wild and TOTK, mario kart put out their best and best-selling entry by a mile, Smash Bros brought EVERY character back and even added in tons of 3rd party characters, basically every flagship nintendo franchise put their best foot forward on this console. But the reason that they put out so many great games, while XBOX and PlayStation had technically and graphically mind-blowing games but so much less in the way of sales is because Nintendo sells games. Sony and Microsoft sell hardware. They're used to marketing their stuff as "hey, look how powerful these devices are! Look at this game's insane graphics that the console can handle!" so they tell their devs to spend years and years making one or two games that have incredible scale but won't come out until halfway through the console's lifespan. Meanwhile Nintendo markets their stuff as "hey, we've got lots of games that give you hours and hours of fun!", so you can buy a switch day 1 and still not run out of games to play 7 years in.
That makes sony and microsoft seen even less like video game companies. This console war should never have started to begin with. Nintendo is a Monopoly when it comes to videogames
with Nintendo confirming the existence of the Switch 2 and the rumored reports about the specs and potential games coming to the platform Nintendo bout to solidify their title as the kings of the gaming industry if that wasn't already the case
Definetly the switch is like the fusion of everything they've been trying to do since the Wii era and it struck gold. The only thing left to do now is find that nice sweet spot between fun gameplay and strong graphics and then keep it that way. And from everything we're hearing about Switch 2 they seem to have nailed it, so many developers are excited for it's release.
What I'm exited for is splatoon 4, wanting to see a new Star Fox and kid Icarus game and wanting new games for franchises with one game and new games for franchises with no seguald in while

He understands. Core Console Rules 101. *A Videogame Console is ALWAYS defined by its Exclusives.* Without Exclusives, Videogame Consoles no longer need to exist. Everything would just go to a PC. Consoles MUST distinguish themselves from PCs at all times. They must deliver a UNIQUE experience you simply can't get anywhere else. The differential factor is why Consoles have defined the gaming experience over PC for decades. Nintendo is the last TRUE game maker making Consoles today. That's why they know these rules so well. Hell, they wrote the rule book about 40 years ago!
Things change overtime and that’s just not how it is nowadays. People want to be able to play everything on one thing. The only reason Nintendo hasn’t been forced to adapt is because how iconic their games are. So Nintendo’s gonna keep selling a shit bunch of consoles that don’t perform good enough for their price.
@@red_rose.s_ Nope. Not at all. That's PC propaganda. Spoken so much online because that's what the PC World wants. The PC game market was crushed by the NES Console in the 1980s & there's a giant ongoing grudge seeking to undermine Nintendo's place in this industry, a place they gained through the Videogame Console. I call it the War of PC vs. FC. The Personal Computer vs. The Family Computer. All Nintendo Consoles are extensions of their original Family Computer or Famicom. Many times 'Famicom' is the working title of their consoles before getting their final name. When the Crash of 1983 happened, Videogame Consoles were supposed to die with it. And they WOULD have & SHOULD have...if not for Nintendo reestablishing the Console in 1985 with NES. Nintendo's games & the rules/guidelines they set on how to run an industry made it virtually impossible for the PC gamemakers to compete & make a living selling games on PCs. The PC gamemakers were forced to come to the Console to make money & sell games. And many of them resented this reality caused by Nintendo & reinforced by Nintendo's competitors like Sega. So the PC guys decided on the next best course of action now that they were stuck in this reality. Shape the Console world in the way of the PC. Mold Consoles to submit to the PC way of doing things. So they propped up key Nintendo competitors using them as puppets for their will. Feed games to Nintendo competitors & starve Nintendo out so that Consoles collapse & PC takes its place. Use media outlets to broadcast various levels of Anti-Nintendo propaganda to weaken Nintendo's position. Use Nintendo's strengths against them & do the opposite of what they tend to do to make it "The Norm". They at first tried to do this with Sega which is why PC games like John Madden Football rooted itself on Sega creating the Sports Sim Gamer category. This category would always offset Nintendo's ways. But Sega was a talented natural gamemaker itself seeking to be another Nintendo of their own. You couldn't cause as much chaos with them so the PC guys soon propped up non-gamemakers. Sony was the perfect choice to set up shop since their expertise is in audio/video/multimedia. They would ALWAYS be dependent on outside gamemakers to supply their platform. With Sega & especially Nintendo, the Dog Wags the Tail. But with Sony, the Tail Wags the Dog. If 1st Party-centric platforms are the norm, turn everything into 3rd Party-centric platforms. There's always gonna be more 3rd Parties than 1st Parties so you can create the illusion of importance. This is how Sega was sabotaged with Dreamcast vs. Sony PlayStation 2 & incoming Microsoft XBox. Sega lost the Sports Games, right? And even Sony was being setup themselves by Microsoft. Sony was an unwitting patsy not knowing XBox WAS the PC specifically designed TO kill Consoles. The PC guys would use both Sony & Microsoft to push things towards PC. The Mulitplat Market. XBox was always the decoy to de-console-ize the PlayStation over time. Can't risk having Sony become another Nintendo themselves when that's what PC's trying to stop. That's where the tug-of-war of 3rd Party exclusives & ever-growing expensive horsepower hype came from. Each generation XBox competed, PlayStation became more & more PC-like over Console-like. What the PC guys failed to understand though is how airtight Nintendo's Model for the industry was. It could be shaken & rocked a bit but it could never be broken. Even corrupting the Japanese Arcade 3rd Parties against Nintendo was limited because no Japanese company wants to be a non-factor in their homeland. They would have to deal with the bedrock of the Japanese Videogame Industry, Nintendo the King. Horsepower worship ensured they would overlook lower-tech devices like Handheld Consoles. The PC Contigent had no answer to the phenomenon of Pokémon & the Game Boy. And they had no answer when Nintendo readjusted its release cadence to never have to depend on 3rd Party gamemakers either. They used to make space for the 3rd Parties but now just pushed 1st/2nd Parties most. All of this came to a head when Sony tried to 'Sega' Nintendo out of the business with the PSP. Nintendo went into the 7th Generation with both things the PC guys had no answer for. And the result was the Gaming Revolution of DS & Wii undermining ALL of their efforts. Scared, shook, & terrified the PC guys went into another evolution, the Tablet PC market. Enter Apple & the iPhone with Google & the Androids. Now Nintendo has to fight on another front. Fighting in the Console realm against Sony & Microsoft with their PC-like Consoles... Fighting the PC itself through Valve's Steam which rallied the once-destroyed PC market... Fighting the Tablet PC AKA Mobile against Apple & Google with their Smartphones with Freemium. Took a little while for Nintendo to adjust to this new disruption (the 3DS/Wii U days) but they would eventually figure it out just like they did in the 1990s PlayStation disruption (the current Switch days). The 7th Generation of DS & Wii returned things to Nintendo's form but they still had resistance. The early 8th Generation of 3DS & Wii U had to deal with Mobile distractions buying the PC guys time. The late 8th Generation of Switch showed the PC guys that time was up. The Gaming Revolution is ongoing. Nintendo wanted to end the Console Wars which is really the War of PC vs. FC in the 7th Generation. They knew that the PC 3rd Parties could only go so far before they reached the end of the road. And now we're here with 8th Gen Switch making 9th Gen PS5 & XBox Series bow to them. The war is over. It doesn't matter what the PC guys want. They do not run this business. Nintendo's Consoles do. Exclusives will CONTINUE to matter as long as Nintendo exists in this business. And since Nintendo beat the biggest companies in the world, there's no one left to make them do different.
@@jwil4286 Because the simple truth of it is Sony is not a True Gamemaker. Sony started with Media & Media Players. They started in Sound AKA Audio. And this naturally extended into Picture AKA Video. They became Multimedia. That's what they do. That's what they know. That's their DNA & companies always follow their DNA. It's no surprise that all the CD-addons we saw from Consoles in the 1990s failed. Nintendo's CD-addon for the Super Famicom/SNES AKA the Nintendo PlayStation. Sega's CD-addon for the Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis AKA the Sega CD. NEC's CD-addon for the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 AKA PC Engine CD-ROM/TurboGrafx CD. Atari's CD-addon for the Atari Jaguar AKA Atari Jaguar CD. None of them were multimedia companies trained extensively in audio/video. Sony was & they had the best success with a CD-based game system in the Sony PlayStation. Why they were the very co-creator of the Compact Disc (CD) themselves (with Phillips). 3DO & Phillips CD-i knew to make an inherent CD-based system but Sony knew it best & succeeded. Sony enters in an age of FMV or Full Motion Video so they focus on the Video of Videogames. While Nintendo focuses on the Games of the Videogames. Sony is the one who brought multimedia features to the gaming experience & made them stick. It's what they know. It was so easy to move right into DVD with PlayStation 2 for these same reasons. However, this is the Videogame Industry & eventually you have to know about Games to win long-term. At the end of the day, Multimedia are side features. The main media is Games in a Game Machine. This is why PSP got eclipsed by the Nintendo DS, ruler of the Handheld Gaming Ghetto. The buzz about multimedia wore off & games were the focus again. Nintendo's DNA is Cards, Toys, Games so it's natural why they won when people focused on games again. Sony's Multimedia buzz had people thinking CDs/DVDs (Music/Movies) were superior to Cartridges (Games). Nintendo's Gaming fundamentals restored faith in Cards (Games) over UMDs (Music/Movies). Cartridges are Card-tridges. The Game Cards & SD Cards in Nintendo's handhelds are just small Cartridges. Sony was humbled & forced to adapt to Card-tridges in PlayStation Vita against Nintendo 3DS just like Nintendo was forced to adapt to CDs/DVDs in Gamecube against Sony PlayStation 2. But Sony doesn't inherently know Games (Cards/Cartridges) so they folded against the 3DS. Secret was Nintendo never fully left Cards/Cartridges behind on their Home Consoles. Can't save anything without a Memory CARD on Gamecube. Can't store decent data without an SD CARD on Wii. Wii U's downfall came partially because there was no significant CARD part in the console. The SD Card slot was only for Wii Mode. Wii U wanted you to use this clunky external hard drive for storage. A CARD Company like Nintendo must sell you CARDS so you see the correction in the Switch. Return to CARD-tridge or CARD in Games with micro SD CARDS for proper storage. And you got a hit. Companies can't leave their DNA. Nintendo knows Cards, Toys, & Games. Sony knows Multimedia. Everything that plays out is Destiny.

So I own a PS5 and Switch, and I own them for VERY different reasons. I own a Switch because I love Nintendo games. The zeldas, metroid dread, etc. Not to mention the Nintendo switch online emulation of classic games. And nonexclusives like Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, celeste, etc. I got a PS5 because my computer can barely handle ps3 era games, let alone new heavy hitters. A PS5 was a much more affordable alternative to PC. So I got a PS5 to play Elden Ring, Cyberpunk and Bloodborne (which I guess is a playstation exclusive), not to play the god of wars and the Spidermans. @@56ty_ I don't think they can unless they take a step back in the graphic quality of their exclusives. The best portable PCs can currently only barely run these newer AAA titles at lower resolutions.
Nintendo has the most sustainable business model. Going lower-tech and lower-spec was the smart play. Nintendo is one of the only companies that realizes they make video games... not "technology". GAMES. Sony has completely lost this perspective, and I'm not sure that Microsoft ever had this perspective. Nintendo is the last REAL game maker around that happens to also make consoles. I think Nintendo has seen this coming for a long time. With age comes experience, and this company has seen many adversaries rise and fall. Nintendo saw their competitors promising better and better production to the point where there is no return on investment and only their frail fundamental IP to justify hardware. Now the third parties are fleeing and afraid of partnering. Nintendo have been playing the long game and it has paid off in spades. Nintendo thrives in limitations it allows for more creativity Sometimes too much freedom means no direction But within a limitation you can challenge yourself how to be flexible within it like a fun puzzle you experiment with PEOPLE NEED TO STOP GIVING A DAMN ABOUT GRAPHICS IF YOU WANT GOOD GRAPHICS WITH REALISTIC TEXTURES GO OUTSIDE AND HUG A TREE NINTENDO WAS SMART AND REALIZED WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS TOO SLOW TO Nintendo realised long ago that competing in graphics is pointless. No matter how powerful your console is, in a couple of years it is going to be obsolete, and anybody who really cares about graphics is going to buy a PC, because that is where the best graphics are. Instead, Nintendo focuses on their strengths: * Nintendo likes hardware gimmicks, because it makes their console stand out. Nobody bought a Wii because it had the prettiest graphics, they bought a Wii because they wanted to play with the motion controls (An idea so good both the “superior” PS3 and Xbox 360 tried to copy it). The same thing is happening with the Switch: people are buying it because they can play their games anywhere, and can move between a handheld and a home console. They like to focus on giving customers something that they cannot get anywhere else. * When Nintendo did try to compete on power, they didn’t do very well. The N64 and Gamecube were the most powerful consoles of their generations, but were both massively outsold by the “inferior” PS1 and PS2. The Wii was the weakest of its generation, but outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360. This proves Nintendo’s approach to console design clearly has something going for it. * Performance is expensive. Performance is even more expensive when you are using it in niche applications. If Nintendo wanted to have something as powerful as an Xbox One or PS4, while still being portable, then it would probably cost twice as much. This means that Nintendo would have to charge more for the console (probably not something the market could sustain) and/or eat a hefty loss on each console sold. Instead, by not focusing on performance, Nintendo make a profit on each console, and keep it at a price point where more people can afford it. * One of Nintendo’s biggest strengths is their first party titles, all of which rely on stylised graphics and strong art-style. It doesn’t matter that the console is not very powerful when Pokémon, Zelda, Mario (and its millions of spin offs), Smash Bros, Metroid and Donkey Kong are incredibly popular and all don’t care about high end graphics. Why make your console more expensive to make and develop for when you don’t even need it? * The companies that tend to focus on graphics are third party developers, such as EA, Activision, and Rockstar. If the console sells well (like the Switch currently is), then those developers will find a way to bring their games to it or, failing that, make unique games that work best on the hardware. * By not competing with the other consoles, or PCs, in terms of power, while offering unique gaming experiences, Nintendo has comfortably found a niche as an optional second system. If you have a PC, PS4 or Xbox One you have very little reason to buy one of the others, because they are all basically the same. Nintendo’s consoles offer things that none of the others offer, and thus can easily tempt people with another gaming device into purchasing it. * Nintendo has also found a strong market in all ages These people don’t care about graphics, so why waste money on giving them something that they don’t want? An families don’t care that the Switch doesn’t have the best looking games, they’re just happy that they can have fun Ever since the Wii era Nintendo has. Been trying to train us that power doesn’t matter Whimsy and imagination and creativity and memorable experiences are more important to them And y’all still aren’t getting it Move on from Power it don’t matter Nintendo doesn’t want it They think it’s boring They don’t care Official quote from iwata: "Even when we were going to launch the Wii system, there were a lot of voice saying 'Nintendo should stop making hardware'," Iwata recalled, talking to Gamasutra. "The reasoning behind that was Nintendo would not have any chance against Microsoft and Sony. The fact of the matter was: I did not think Nintendo should compete against these companies with the same message and same entertainment options for people. "We have not changed our strategy," he added. "In other words, we just do not care what kind of 'more beef' console Microsoft and Sony might produce in 2013. Our focus is on how we can make our new console different than [others]." The switch is faithful to iwata’s legacy .
I mostly agree. The only point i disagree slightly with is the point that graphics and performance don't matter. Thing is (this still is only my opinion) i don't really want to buy a game like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that at some points look like straight out of Mario 64 and run worse than some mobile games and pay 60-70€. I mean my opinion doesn't really matter because of how well the game Sold but such unpolished games simply don't look fun to watch and play.
@@Dewdrop0-6 I am aware which is the reason why i beought it up. SM64 is good 30 years old, so Scarlet and Violet have no reason to look in some parts like straight out of it. If i said it in a way that caused misunderstandings i apologize.
@@Souru_TVI think even a game with N64-like graphics would do fine if the gameplay is fun. A game like Mario Kart 64 still holds up extremely well almost 30 years later. It's the bugs and glitches that interrupt gameplay that are unforgivable. Maybe that's an issue with console power, but as that is a known standard, I'd put greater blame on poor game development and management.
The switch proved that Nintendo can stay relevant in the post wii/smartphone era. Not only can it go toe toe with Playstation and xbox, but it can be one of the best-selling systems of all time despite coming off their worst selling system (minus the virtual boy). The switch was smart releasing in the middle of the 8th generation cycle so it was able to bulid a fanbase from the ground up and bring back those gamers who left Nintendo in the 90s and 00s plus being a handheld made it more appealing.
i think that the switch was genius for having low specs because game development take WAY LESS time and they can push out more games faster hence why they have a bigger library that the PS5 and series X combined
Nintendo creates games for portable and console. They create games for all ages that are simple to learn but hard to master. Nintendo has more complex single player experiences while also having couch party games that are simple to learn yet difficult to master. Nintendo has no true competition, because they have the most legendary exclusives of all time.
ever since breath of the wild (and now totk) every PS/Xbox game just feels like i am "on rails"; like i am watching a movie and pressing buttons in a "choose your adventure" type manner
I've been a PlayStation fan for 14 years and made fun of the Switch pretty relentlessly until just before COVID. I then bought a switch in 2022 to take to the hospital when my young son had a major surgery, and now I'll stand by the Switch as the best console of all time. It's remarkable what they've done with this thing, and I was an idiot for not seeing it all that time. It reminded me why I love video games to begin with, something I was losing on PlayStation and didn't realize it.
I paired $70 for Chrono Trigger when it first came out on SNES and it is the greatest game of all time ever. I paid $70 for Tears of the Kingdom and it is a work of art
@@stormysplaylists At least you don't call TotK a "DLC". Btw, it is interesting to observe the contrasting reactions between European and American consumers regarding the pricing of certain video games. While the European market appears to have accepted the 70 Euro price point for games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate without significant complaints, the announcement of a 70 USD price tag for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sparked a major discontent among American consumers. I find this discrepancy funny to this day. 😂
@@stormysplaylists Yes, that is how I understood and interpreted your statement, even though I personally disagree. I just mentioned that I don't like it when people call TotK a "(glorified) DLC". It's a sequel in pretty much the same vein as Spiderman 2, just like you've called it.
@@Cool-Vest xbox i kinda understand because they are kinda shifting from consoles and just trying to be a huge entertainment platform. But playstation i don’t understand. And Nintendo keeps making games.
@@MrCrow-tl5tv Nintendo is adding Entertainment as well tho through movies, theme parks and more stuff like that. Also more focus on merchandise. They basically want to create a new second leg with that now that they merged their handheld and home console business.
How Nintendo won the war? Easy, the brand name is the strongest in the universe, they hands down have the best IP'S that can not be matched, and they are too inventive. It's hard to beat a company that has the best IP''S and knows how to reinvent themselves every generation by bringing fresh new and gameplay ideas. The switch was the best invention to ever come out in the past 7 years that no one has ever seen.
idk a lot of ips from them get stagnant after a while or just flat out vanish. nintendo is far from perfect either not to mention some shitty asf business practices
@rattlingmender1648 ole reliable mario 😂. Though yeah people bs when they diss sony's ps5. Nintendo won't ever have something that will make people pay rent money on, let alone can't compete with pc hybrids. Playstation just has to not do the second class citizen to pc with helldivers 2 account bs they overturned and market psvr2 better. Which June adding games like Ghostbusters, and the target/amazon $100 off sale is a start despite 2023 holiday season being a better idea.
Remember that the first two or so PlayStations sold so well not because of quality games or specs but because they were cheap cd players, at the time usually expensive
Well yes but now its kinda different, that has been the thing with nintendo ever since it started being a videogame company, it just wanted people to have fun and most of the consoles sold well (except for the virtual boy and wii U)
You clearly never played on PS1 or PS2 to say that shitty stupid comment. PS1 and PS2's library of games are a masterpiece, people had them because they had GAMES, the same reason Switch is selling well. By the way, PS1 and PS2 library crushes all Switch's library, but of course you don't know that because you never ever got close to a PS1 or PS2.
I've got to say easily with the newer consoles I primarily decided on getting an Xbox Series X due to backwards compatibility. Sonic Unleashed is just one of the many games that you can get, especially with it having fps boost on the series consoles. I love playing Driver San Francisco and it being delisted from PC makes this console easily worth it for me. Though not having a high-end PC is something that I find interesting that most people seem to have unlike me who has only an Xbox and a Switch.
I will admit PCs are quite expensive so I don't blame anyone for not having one but are worth it in the long run if you have more intentions for them besides gaming imo. Without it I wouldn't even be able to record footage for videos so I get more than my money's worth
I will admit, ever since failing to find a backwards-compatible PS3 when it mattered, and owning a PS2, backwards compatibility is a very attractive feature to me. If there were more games I liked on the X-Box, I would have bothered with the system.
I think the whole graphics competition between Playstation and Xbox really ended up snuffing each of them out. The lost the plot, and consumers realized they didn't care about graphics as much as they once thought they did.
Yeah I think a lot of it is about how the graphical difference is just so impossible to tell nowadays, it doesn't have the same massive difference as it did back in the earlier generations
First was the Bit Wars Then Came the Graphics Wars I can't tell the difference in graphics between the recent consoles, and don't really care. As long as the games are fun and playable, I'll support it if affordable.

14:05 I know Splatoon 3 didn't change that much (especially at launch), but comparing it to Overwatch 1 and 2 is pretty insulting. Splatoon 3 was a genuine improvement in almost every way, it didn't remove features or add in monetization no one asked for like Overwatch 2 did. It didn't launch missing the flagship feature that was meant to sell the game only to cancel said feature later, and most importantly it didn't replace the previous game, you can still play Splatoon 2 if you wanted. Hell, you were even able to play Splatoon 1 for years after Overwatch 1 was gone.
I own a Switch and PS5. My Switch is for playing games, my PS5 is used mainly as a smart TV that can also play the three PlayStation exclusives that come out and anything that doesn’t come to the Switch (since I don’t have a high end PC). Nintendo won by focusing on the games. Great video! You earned a sub
Maybe the Switch 2 will suffer from the same problem as the Wii U.. Following a huge sales success, the follow up just has trouble gaining traction. The Switch had some great games at launch, true system sellers that caused the cascade, the avalanche of new reports of the Switch selling out. The Switch is a kids toy and that is why it sold so well, and do parents and kids care about graphics? If they Switch already works, why buy something new? You have bought 3 switches for your house and games and controllers, it's expensive to upgrade. Maybe just how long the Switch was on the market not only fucks with Sony and Microsoft, but it also fucks Nintendo's next console?
Nintendo‘s winning strategy is that they focus on games that are *actually games* with fun and gameplay at the forefront and not games masquerading as movies hiding shallow gameplay behind photorealistic graphics.
I used to buy games on Steam 10 years ago. But after they started discontinuing their client for older operating systems without giving a "limited" offline variant for games released for these operating systems, I realized that I would need to keep upgrading my pc in order to keep access to my games. I'm an adult with kids now and I may not have the disposable income to keep upgrading my gaming pc every x years. Another problem is that companies can revoke access to games at any time or do things like change the music because a license has expired. I have personally been burned by the Assassin's Creed III DLC on pc. Gaming consoles right now still offer physical games. So even when the server goes down, I will still be able to play the games I bought. I also try to jailbreak every console I own in order to backup my games in case of bit rot later and am looking for buying a few spares for the consoles I really like. At least then I remain in control over the content I purchased with my hard-earned money. So yeah, for me consoles right now symbolize ownership for me, and I suppose for a lot of people. So that's why the $500 price tag could still be worth it. Things change once physical games are phased out though. At that point, I wouldn't spend a dime on these closed platforms any more. At that point it's probably better to go for a pc and make sure to also download a pirated copy for every game you purchased. Companies like Ubisoft want to take out the concept of "ownership" out of the equation entirely. (at which point I feel they should no longer be allowed to use terms like "buy/purchase" on their stores. But rather "rent", but that's another story). But I won't accept that.
Discontinuing windows xp and vista (both being well over 10 years old) And allowing you to run games on linux is a pretty fair deal, like you shouldn't be using a 10 year old OS connected to the internet Windows 7 is like 17 years old now Also you could switch to linux if you want to keep using old hardware
Stick to GOG for PC games. It provides an installer as an option to their client unlike steam. Or if I HAVE to get it from steam and cant wait. I see if theres a pirate or cracked copy out there. If there is. I then Buy the Steam game, then download and backup the pirate copy for my future proof.
Microsoft made their OS unsupported, Steam runs on Linux. Linux hardware requirements don't change much. Gaming consoles are not backward compatible, last models use PC/smartphone tech. Game release on physical media expects follow-up patches. GOG is DRM-free.
When I got my PS5 and Series S, I played the hell out of them and my Switch was collecting dust, but after becoming a dad, that quickly changed. I maybe play my PS5 at night if I’m not tired, but most of the time I play my Switch just for the convenience.
I'm with you on the Sonic Unleashed statement, I literally bought a Series X for the boosted features and thought Halo was cool. Low key regret not getting a PC and keeping my One S
can yall just call xenoblade 2 a good game without the "oh but the sexualization, oh but the tutorials" like xenoblade 2 was my first xenoblade game and i understood what to do easily and i skipped all the tutorials, and the character designs are not even bad, they fit all the characters well
Facts, like come on xc2 is out for 7 years and some are still complain about the sexualization, if so then stay away many awesome jrpgs like dragon crown, persona, tales etc, cuz these jrpgs have sexualization as well.
I think another thing that is important to mention is that the Switch is the ONLY portable console other than phones. It is the most accessible console, the most versatile, the one you can literally play anywhere. It really is only limited by power and whatever games it's releasing (which so far this year, isn't a lot.) My guess is XBox, if they do something BIG, will fizzle out within the next decade. Game Pass is their best weapon but as you mentioned, it's also on PC. Thee is very little reason to get an XBox. PlayStation I think will still be in the market for a while because of their legacy but they also need to change things up and focus on something that evolves gaming and take a risk. See, Nintendo stands out from the rest because Nintendo is willing to be ballsy, sometimes to a fault. But, they also know they can't sell the same thing forever. PlayStation's haptic feedback is cool, but it's more like a gimmick (or so it seems, I don't own a PS5) and is just 'cool'. But that's it. Otherwise, it's just a more powerful PS4. I don't think people bought the PS5 because of a little extra immersion. Mainly, it was the games, and the power. That's it. I guess that's obvious but it's still worth pointing out. I'm very curious as to what Nintendo's next move is as it sounds like the next console is coming out quite soon and I wonder how they'll innovate this time. Personally, and ironically, I want their next console to be at least as powerful as the PS4/XBox One because that way, other developers don't have to downscale their games nearly as much or just fell they can't release their games on switch (2) at all. Imagine playing ELDEN RING on switch. Okay maybe that's not super revolutionary, but if they were able to improve the power as well as their internet services, AND it's a portable console, they'd fucking DUMPSTER the other consoles. Personally, I don't think they'll go that far as that's not the company they are, but it would be IMO, awesome. Obviously I'd also want (and expect) some new revolutionary mechanics that add to the console, but I think, with all the money they've made from the switch, becoming the BIGGEST company in Japan, if they put lots of tech into making the next console much more powerful as well as innovative, they will have not only won the console wars, but they will utterly annihilate the competition. Ik, dramatic, yada yada. But honestly, they are in the best position right now. With them investing not only in games, but movies and theme parks, they are dominating the competition. Anyways, that was a long ass rant. Hope ya'll are having a nice day!
@@razorblade413 True I forgot about Steam Deck, but comparatively to the Switch has only sold a couple million compared to the 140 million that the Switch has sold. The Steam Deck tends to learn more on the hardcore gaming aspect and it technically more niche since it's about having the ability to play games portable rather than being able to play them at all. It seems that a lot of people are happy to play Steam games on PC. Steam isn't going to rock the boat super hard with the Steam Deck, it's more like a side gig. I don't know what Steam's plan is for the future but I don't think their entering the console wars but they are more so just working in the background quietly to make a little extra profit. Since they don't make games as much compared to Nintendo, they can't really use their hardware to also promote their games except for raw power. They can't introduce motion controls for example because that wouldn't make sense if these games are to also be played on PC. This doesn't mean I'm not curious or support the idea of the Steam Deck. I just think that they aren't trying to win or compete, they are just trying to find a new way to make money. Personally I am interested in getting one but they are expensive and I'm in college, so probably won't for a while. ANyways, have a nice day!
Not gonna call it a crash, but gaming is in a weird spot now. If something big happens, Nintendo & the indie market will be the ones that barely feel any changes.
I'm admittedly a lapsed Nintendo fanboy. I'm PC-only right now, but I grew up with the N64 & always rooted for Nintendo. So my opinion on the matter is definitely biased, but I'm glad to see someone talking about how underwhelming PS exclusives feel these days. They have the high production values & cool stories, but they're all so formulaic at this point. Sometimes it seems like they're made to "wow" the critics & get the fanboys beefing online, but the gameplay lacks the complexity of the narratives. I used to just ignore Xbox, but since getting Game Pass on PC, I'm finding myself more & more engaged in their games now. I think it's the variety that I'm enjoying most, or maybe it's that it's all new to me. I never thought two of my most anticipated games would be a first person Indiana Jones & a freaking 4x strategy game like ARA, but here we are. But I know I'm in the minority, and fans want more 3rd person, narrative-driven, flashy visual games. To an extent, I do too. I REALLY want to try Ghosts of Tsushima when it comes to PC. That game has always looked cool to me. Aside from that, I mostly look forward to Switch 2 & future Nintendo titles, though. I'll be there day 1 for Metroid Prime 4. I'll buy 18 copies of a new F-Zero. Throw me a Majora's Mask HD remake & I'd die of happiness. So I'm just as guilty of being a closet fanboy too, even if PC is my preferred way to play these days.
The return on investment alone far surpasses the others, 7 years later we can still use the same console to get hundreds of hours of gameplay on Zelda and Pokémon games
Huge thank you for the starter history lesson! When I hear people giving shade to Nintendo now I'm like...dude...you have NO IDEA what Nintendo did for you!
The reason Microsoft and Sony are abandoning exclusives all comes back to them choosing/encouraging graphics over gameplay. Graphically intensive games take more money and time to make. And because of this, they need to hedge this risk by expanding the sales of said expensive games to more people on more platforms. Additionally, because they take more time and money, studios are more afraid to try new and unique things, because if they end up failing, the cost of said failure is absolutely massive. This has led to the current rut we see in modern games, ignoring Nintendo or course who continue to develop new and enticing games. Gameplay > Graphics.
Performance and graphics does matter though but there should be a balance. I want a stable 60 fps with good textures + good gameplay. If my game is struggling to run 30 fps and has PS2 graphics it'll undoubtedly take you out the experience
Once upon a time I really wanted a PS5, partly because I never really treated myself to the latest console. When trying to get one with missed opportunities, a family member got a Nintendo Switch Oled and sent it to me because another family member due for the present obtained one. While the desire may still be there, it is so slight that it is negligible for the reasons you mentioned. Plus, with as many titles that I purchased on the Switch (mostly on sale), I could have bought a PS5. But similar to the PS2 back then, I am interested in the greater volume of the console's catalog. New Switch 2 or none, I can keep playing my Oled for as long as it works. So, besides the fact that I may have to upgrade my (I think) 7-year-old gaming laptop, I do not know what other game consoles are doing outside of the Switch. But at this point, nor do I care as much.
@@samanbouniadyWell, naturally, if I own multiple platforms on which the game in question can be played, I’ll buy it on whichever platform has it cheaper. 🤷♂️
The situation of Switch-PS5-XSX|S is quite similar to the Wii-PS3-Xbox360 generation, but with a twist: PS3 was seen as a failure, while PS5 is regarded as better-performed than PS4. Nintendo Switch is playing the game on another level.
Gotta appreciate to see the Xenoblade love :D Great video buddy! I think it's not untrue to say, that this Nintendo-Gen has been the absolute fantastic in every way. Maybe even the best one we ever had. To the point that even more and more old IP's get revived. You love to see it.
3:00 I don't know where you found a list that said that the SNES just barely beat the Genesis by 2 million units but every time I've looked up a list of top selling video game consoles, the total which is still close and respectable is Sega Genesis with 28 million sold and Super Nintendo with 49 million sold. I'd say it's still a close war but it wasn't barely
I don’t know where you got the 28 million units from but the mega drive sold around about 30 million but you are right on the SNES figure of 49 million.
@@superavel Well no it depends if you're talking sales wise or power wise in which in both they've definitely lost a few generations. Sales wise Nintendo first started lacking with the Nintendo 64. They made a lot of hiccups during the rest of the 90s like not having a disk drive due to Nintendo's fear of piracy that made them slip up when Sony entered the ring. It's the same story for the GameCube. It wasn't that powerful and Nintendo and the rest of the competition just couldn't keep up with the PS2s sales. Wii wiped the floor with Microsoft and Sony but as you mentioned Nintendo fell flat on their face with the Wii U. Power wise it's a similar situation. The N64 wasn't as powerful as the PlayStation, GameCube wasn't as powerful as the rest of the competition, the Wii was just a slightly more powerful GameCube, the Wii U goes without saying, and the Switch is obviously less powerful than the competition. Although Nintendo has never really focused on making a powerful console to compete so the console wars for them is all about sales I guess.
@@Sacred_Sword As I said it counts by how you consider a generation. People forget the DS is a N64 in power and the Game Boy Advance was basically the same generation as the N64 so counting either one of them still means Nintendo beats the PlayStation. The easiest way to look at it is if you combine sales during pretty much any period, Nintendo comes out on top. For example during the PS2 years, Sony sold a total of 363.77 million consoles. Nintendo in that same time period sold 444 million. the rest is just branding.
@@Sacred_Sword Power is a stupid metric because the ones who launch later win. The ones with the more money can just delay their console launches to beat the market leader. That's how it works. The GBA is the best example of this. The Game Boy had a shelf life of 9 years, 12 if you include the Color. GBA basically had a 3 year run before the DS. Sony waited till the GBA launched then power leapt the console by launching three years later in 2004 which gave it a generational advantage. Nintendo could have responded by rolling out an even more powerful console the year later or something similar in power the same year but then what you're giving the competition is ports which is exactly what Sony would have wanted. So instead they just upped the GBA graphics a little and added a second screen and called it a "generation" when it technically never ended. The Switch is now in the same boat. The PS5 Slim, the just announced Xbox Series X and rumours of a PS5 Pro is basically there to delay till Nintendo Switch runs out of Steam and needs a sequel which they have now announced. Then in 2027, we'll suddenly have Xbox enter the ring with a portable Xbox that will be about the power of a PS5 and everyone is wowed. Meanwhile Sony will consolidate the home console market with the PS6. Lol. Predictable reactionary bullshit from competitors who hate real innovation.
Counterpoint to the exclusives point Why should we as consumers have to pay $3-500 minimum to play one or a few games? And to answer your question of where to buy something like Sonic X Shadow Generations, while I can't answer for you, I can pose a few questions to ask yourself: What framerate do I want? Will I use mods? Should I wait for a sale? Will I need it to be portable? Questions like those are to give an idea of what to ask yourself if you own multiple platforms This is when companies need to make their hardware appealing. Free online, good BWC, graphic settings, more often sales, just to name a few, and even the Switch has a mass casual appeal of being portable. Something to sell itself on outside of exclusives. Something these other guys need to learn
Exclusives are bad at good if there wasn’t any exclusives then goodbye to consoles since everyone would move to pc meaning no more competition so that’s pretty bad for the consumer.
@@Kitschy_ The PC is great, thanks. The consoles are mainly locked down pc parts anyway. Why continue the lockdown, forcing people to pay for online connnectivity? Heck with the Switch and Pokemon, Nintendo charges twice for online access and it doesn't even deploy servers but rather runs peer to peer crap. How good is Nintendo removing away from allowing people to backup their saves in anyway but whatever makes Nintendo money? The Wii U did it. The Steam Deck does it. Switch doesn't. Any how great for consumers are teh Joycons? Why force people to use those on your handheld when they self destruct in 5 minutes? And how great for consumers is having the games on teh Nintendo Switch eshop never getting a price cut 7 years after launch? Zelda still $60. Mario, still $60. Mario Kart still $60 with extra DLC as well. Guess how much I paid for Deep Rock Galactic? It's normally $30, currently on sale for for $10. It's got a rating of 97% on Steam, that is better than Elden Ring. Guess how much I paid for Stray, a great unique cat game? It's $18, normally $30. 97% percent approval rating. Locking consumers away from multiple store fronts is bad for consumers, and that is Nintendo. Nintendo says since you purcahse their system, for it's entire life you are not allowed to cross shop other vendors and markets. PC doesn't do that. I have Steam, EPic, EA, Gog, Battle.net, the League fo Legends launcher all installed and running at the same time.
They don’t even need to change anything else. If they made a switch that could play 4K 120fps docked they would make so much money, even if they sold it for triple the price of the regular switch.
I'll ever get the complaints about the characters designs in Xenoblade 2. It's rare to see other games get push back for ecchi elements. Usually it's purely political culture was BS outrage (or viral marketing) like Stellar Blade. People will gas up ugly hags like that tall woman from RE8, then complain about Xenoblade 2. They'll cry about Nintendo """censoring""" games, then cry about Xenoblade 2. There is nothing wrong with XB2's character designs.
A lot of the female character designs are heavily sexualized. Even Mythra who is an aegis is terribly sexualized while male characters like Malos, the other aegis are completely covered up and taken seriously. I think there’s a lot wrong with that and that’s mainly due to each character having a different designer which is another issue on its own for lack of style cohesion and whatnot
Difference between characters like Lady Dimitrescu and Pyra are that Lady D is in a realistic artstyle which really doesn't turn people off like the anime designs of Xenoblade. Anime despite its popularity compared to the 90s and 2000s, is still somewhat looked down upon for "being for horny teenagers". Nobody's gonna bat an eye at Stellar Blade and RE8. Everyone will look at Xenoblade fans weirdly because of Pyra, Poppi, Dahlia, etc.
It's not just the character designs. The game is full gratuitous smut which made no sense and added nothing to the story. It's pure coomer-bait. "place your hand on my chest" "nice bod you got there" noppon sex robot Dahlia It didn't enhance the story, it didn't need to be there. just smut for smuts sake. you can have sexually appealing character designs without bordering on softcore porn. Example....XENOBLADE CHRONICLE 1! That game wasn't filled with dirty old man tropes but Sharla, Fiora, and Melia were nice on the eyes. If you like that type of stuff, cool. It ruined the game for me and I'm glad they went away from it with XC3. Torna: The Golden Country >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> XC2

And you didn’t completely hate on others that may think differently. Nice job. Gonna check out some of your other vids.
Hopefully they don't pressure themselves or their audience in developing big budget photorealistic games since its costs much money, manpower and time to develop.
Another important point, the better the graphics, the more costly the game, and since the selling point of the consoles are their graphics you HAVE to take advantage of the hardware, which makes games MUCH more expensive, while nintendo kept both his hardware and game cheap to make while selling millions of them
So Nintendo won the 9th generation with their 8th generation console cause it already has a bunch of games on it? Nintendo's 9th Gen console hasn't come out yet and this would be like saying Sony dominated 7th Gen from the beginning cause the PS2 had more games than the 360 when it launched. I get the point but it's weird I keep seeing proclamations that Nintendo has won a fight they haven't haven't entered yet. The thumbnail portrays what it portrays.

Nintendo has a natural advantage there.
yeah, and with the Switch 2, they're about to wipe Sony and Microsoft off the map.
Mean it is brilliant unless the community favors graphics over everything else like idiots they are.
100% me and my friends regularly gather round a switch or even wii but havent round an Xbox since halo2
and they have so many games that take advantage of it, while having even more which you can play solo. There is always something you can play with a group or on your own
True. Halo? Hasn't had Splitscreen for OVER A DECADE, Spiderman? Nope. COD? Pretty much only online focused.

Right about what?
As much as I do like Xbox and PlayStation, there is something that just feels right about a console from an actual video game company. Something was definitely lost when the industry shifted from game developers making video game hardware like Sega, Atari, or SNK to giant mega-conglomerates like Sony or Microsoft. Nintendo is the last hold out from those days.
I agree, the Playstation killed the competition just by Sony being too big
My way of thinking (and this could be completely wrong) is that Xbox and PlayStation have games that try to justify the new hardware’s existence. You constantly hear in marketing about how the game takes advantage of so-and-so
Nintendo makes new hardware to facilitate their games. They’re not interested in the most advanced flashy stuff, they just make systems that can handle what they have planned for their games. Once the system gets old and/or their ideas get ambitious, they start work on a new system that can facilitate those games.
interesting
I think you are completely right
Since Sony focuses more on the Hardware ( since thats what they actually make in general ), they just design the new console and then make games for it.
Sony and Microsoft make games to promote the hardware, Nintendo makes consoles to promote the games. Nintendo is a game first company.
-No massive layoffs
-Secured exclusives
-Online services (albeit kinda crappy itself) comes with a wide arrangement of classic games from several consoles

sony and microsoft games take up too much money, manpower and time to develop due to high specs of their consoles and would mostly layoff people when the game didn't make much profit.

The only thing left to do now is find that nice sweet spot between fun gameplay and strong graphics and then keep it that way. And from everything we're hearing about Switch 2 they seem to have nailed it, so many developers are excited for it's release.

He understands. Core Console Rules 101.
*A Videogame Console is ALWAYS defined by its Exclusives.*
Without Exclusives, Videogame Consoles no longer need to exist.
How did Sony not learn this from the 3DS-Vita difference?

Love how Sony says it doesn't compete with Nintendo and now Xbox is trying to convince everyone it doesn't compete with Sony
Sony isn't lying tho, Nintendo is not aiming for their target audience, they're cattering to the audience that isn't too much of a fan of Playstation.
Sony also respects Nintendo and was actually inspired by Nintendo's business tactics, a strategy that paid off quite well.
@@caiolucas8257 they are coping, or stupid, young teenagers are the key demographic for video games and Sony has completely lost that market to Nintendo/Mobile. Sony is catering mostly to 30+ year olds and a lot of these are starting to migrate to PC or are happy to continue to play on their PS4. Sony's market share shrinking by the year especially in terms of SW sales. Hard to see how that trend is bucked as dedicated TV consoles as a concept are beginning to look like they are clearly past their peak

I was 25 when i bought my first console, the Switch 5 years ago and it made me a gamer again.
The hybrid concept intrigued me because as an adult I don't have always the time to sit on my TV for hours and play games. But with the Switch I can play 5-10 minutes, turn it off and an hour later I can grab it and continue playing.
Since then I bought a PSP, a New 2DS XL, a Switch Lite (wich my wife loves), and the Anbernic RG35XX-H for emulation. All of them are Handhelds because I just love the pick up and play nature of them. I have also a PS4 for my Resident Evil games but since the RE4 Remake came out last year it collects dust. I'm glad I never bought a PS5 because the PS4 Pro is still waaaaay cheaper in my country (Hungary).
Hot take: Sony and Microsoft should… switch to hybrid consoles ASAP
@@56ty_ I don't think they can unless they take a step back in the graphic quality of their exclusives. The best portable PCs can currently only barely run these newer AAA titles at lower resolutions.
@@theviniso which they should do based on their costs and overall profits. But yeah their audience would never accept that
Nintendo has the most sustainable business model.
Nintendo thrives in limitations it allows for more creativity

PEOPLE NEED TO STOP GIVING A DAMN ABOUT GRAPHICS
IF YOU WANT GOOD GRAPHICS WITH REALISTIC TEXTURES GO OUTSIDE AND HUG A TREE
NINTENDO WAS SMART AND REALIZED WHAT EVERYONE ELSE
IS TOO SLOW TO
Nintendo realised long ago that competing in graphics is pointless. No matter how powerful your console is, in a couple of years it is going to be obsolete, and anybody who really cares about graphics is going to buy a PC, because that is where the best graphics are.
Instead, Nintendo focuses on their strengths:
* Nintendo likes hardware gimmicks, because it makes their console stand out.
An families don’t care that the Switch doesn’t have the best looking games, they’re just happy that they can have fun
Ever since the Wii era Nintendo has. Been trying to train us that power doesn’t matter
Whimsy and imagination and creativity and memorable experiences are more important to them
And y’all still aren’t getting it
Move on from Power
it don’t matter
Nintendo doesn’t want it
They think it’s boring
They don’t care
Official quote from iwata: "Even when we were going to launch the Wii system, there were a lot of voice saying 'Nintendo should stop making hardware'," Iwata recalled, talking to Gamasutra.
Our focus is on how we can make our new console different than [others]."
The switch is faithful to iwata’s legacy

Good comment. I read it all. I agree with what you wrote.
@@Souru_TVYou are forgetting that SM64 is a roughly 30 year old game.

Let me guess. Tabletop mode playing mario kart with your son? That game is dope af especially on holidays with my adult siblings.
Its not so much Nintendo won, its that the two other competitors were flailing around and knocked themself out.
I can’t agree that “no game is worth $70.” I mean, that’s like 30cents an hour for me with TotK… pretty good for entertainment
buuuuut, it is just a spiderman 2 sequel for botw ($60), i know, i know zonai stuff too

That was big factor, but those consoles also had amazing libraries, especially the PS2.
Ahh so you enjoy pure garbage? Cool

Yeah
I think a lot of it is about how the graphical difference is just so impossible to tell nowadays, it doesn't have the same massive difference as it did back in the earlier generations
First was the Bit Wars
Then Came the Graphics Wars
I can't tell the difference in graphics between the recent consoles, and don't really care.

Xenoblade's fanservice is not a "shortcoming" but im glad to see another fan. Really enjoyed the video
So basically: Let the opponents beat each other up and keep to yourself?
The Switch, Xb Series S/X, and the PS5 reminds me of the Xb360, PS3, and Wii console war
Discontinuing windows xp and vista (both being well over 10 years old)
And allowing you to run games on linux is a pretty fair deal, like you shouldn't be using a 10 year old OS connected to the internet
Windows 7 is like 17 years old now
Also you could switch to linux if you want to keep using old hardware
Stick to GOG for PC games. It provides an installer as an option to their client unlike steam. Or if I HAVE to get it from steam and cant wait. I see if theres a pirate or cracked copy out there. If there is. I then Buy the Steam game, then download and backup the pirate copy for my future proof.
oh snap I read your whole post and u mentioned the exact thing lol. But yea stick with GOG going foward.
Microsoft made their OS unsupported, Steam runs on Linux. Linux hardware requirements don't change much.

What about steam deck?
And its cheap

Nice video! I agree with you about why it's a great reason to buy a certain console because of the games.
PlayStation isn’t abandoning exclusives though
Graphics and frames literally are completely irrelevant to gaming. I will take a ps1 over a ps5 any day of the week.
@@JonathanWillow-zz7rb most delusional shit I heard
But at this point, nor do I care as much.
what i’m happy about is the fact that nintendo always finds a way to make a comeback and since i’ve been a nintendo fan since birth i’m all for it
Why is $60 justified, but "no game is worth $70"? Seems arbitrary.
Would you pay 60 dollars or sometimes less for a game, or 70+ for the exact same game just varying by platform?
@@samanbouniadyWell, naturally, if I own multiple platforms on which the game in question can be played, I’ll buy it on whichever platform has it cheaper. 🤷♂️
@@lifemicrorez Switch is more justified than Sony in quite a hand full of cases. Because the AAA Third Parties are on Switch for $60 if not less.
@@samanbouniady👍
Games used to cost way more than 60 back in the day.
It always makes me laugh when many of the video game UA-camrs don't include Nintendo in their comparisons as if only PS and XBox exist. So odd!!
The situation of Switch-PS5-XSX|S is quite similar to the Wii-PS3-Xbox360 generation, but with a twist: PS3 was seen as a failure, while PS5 is regarded as better-performed than PS4. Nintendo Switch is playing the game on another level.
Nintendo the only ones with personality
I bought oled switch Pokemon Scarlet edition 6 months ago. Felt like its the toy my mom didn't buy when I was a kid. Unique healing experience indeed.
Gotta appreciate to see the Xenoblade love :D
Great video buddy! I think it's not untrue to say, that this Nintendo-Gen has been the absolute fantastic in every way. Maybe even the best one we ever had. To the point that even more and more old IP's get revived. You love to see it.
nailed it. Switch + PC has me covered for 99% of all the games I might want to play.
Handheld gaming is the real master race!! 👌👌
Affordability and tons of good games is more impartant than graphics. The success of not only switch but every previous handheld proves this.
just got into stardew valley. i miss games being fun. you are right, many studios too much focus on graphics
I was pulling from sales in America when i said that
I don’t know where you got the 28 million units from but the mega drive sold around about 30 million but you are right on the SNES figure of 49 million.
And this was before the June Nintendo Direct being way better than the other presentations lol
Nintendo beat 2 generations of Playstation's & Xbox's. Domination
They've not really lost a generation. Just timing of sequels like Wii U and his they brand stuff make it seem like a flop.
Every generation where Nintendo had a competitive product on the market they won and in most cases won by a landslide.
Counterpoint to the exclusives point
Why should we as consumers have to pay $3-500 minimum to play one or a few games?
And to answer your question of where to buy something like Sonic X Shadow Generations, while I can't answer for you, I can pose a few questions to ask yourself: What framerate do I want? Will I use mods? Should I wait for a sale? Will I need it to be portable?
Questions like those are to give an idea of what to ask yourself if you own multiple platforms
This is when companies need to make their hardware appealing.
People praising Nintendo for being better than the competition while cost of living makes me impossible to buy consoles over £100 be like..

Great coverage on this topic. Been saying it for a while, “PC and Nintendo moving forward”
A wise man once said “if it’s not fun why bother?”
They don’t even need to change anything else. If they made a switch that could play 4K 120fps docked they would make so much money, even if they sold it for triple the price of the regular switch.
I bought my PS5 because it's backwards compatible. If the Switch 2 is backwards compatible for Switch games, it'll definitely top other consoles.
They will the 3rd was backwards compatible with the dams the WiiU and the Wii the same so there’s a big chance it will be backwards compatible
I meant 3ds not 3rd
It's series tradition to have hot characters, but 2 went out of it's way to emphasize that, which did not work. They went too far.
"place your hand on my chest"
"nice bod you got there"
noppon sex robot
Dahlia
It didn't enhance the story, it didn't need to be there. just smut for smuts sake. you can have sexually appealing character designs without bordering on softcore porn. Example....XENOBLADE CHRONICLE 1! That game wasn't filled with dirty old man tropes but Sharla, Fiora, and Melia were nice on the eyes.
If you like that type of stuff, cool. It ruined the game for me and I'm glad they went away from it with XC3.
Torna: The Golden Country >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> XC2
@@HebrewGamer100 What you said is all valid, but it's up to you whether you get upset about it or try to ignore it.

Nice job. Gonna check out some of your other vids.
i agree, just that its performance issues hold it back
Hopefully they don't pressure themselves or their audience in developing big budget photorealistic games since its costs much money, manpower and time to develop.
Another important point, the better the graphics, the more costly the game, and since the selling point of the consoles are their graphics you HAVE to take advantage of the hardware, which makes games MUCH more expensive, while nintendo kept both his hardware and game cheap to make while selling millions of them
And if the game didn't sell after years of development then they layoff some people.
If all consoles were allowed to access all video games, Nintendo would be the console to play it on
9:14 and this is why i have yet to purchase a PS5.
I have a Switch and a Steamdeck, the combination allows me to play 99% of the games I want from the comfort of my bed.
Microsoft and Sony are chasing numbers. Nintendo is trying to build a legacy.
More like chasing graphics even though we reached a point of diminishing returns when it comes to graphics
The revenue speaks for itself. Nintendo makes back double what Sony does and it's only increasing every year with the Switch.
Finally someone sees that EVEN IF YOUR CONSOLE IS POWERFUL, THE CONSOLE WITH THE BETTER GAMES WILL WIN.
i have two expensive paperweights now adays, since all i play on now is either my pc or my switch
