- Microsoft announced that it would be closing Tango Gameworks (Hi-Fi Rush, Evil Within) & Arkane Austin (Redfall, Prey, Dishonored) in a completely shocking announcement that seemingly came out of nowhere following their record layoffs of over 2000 developers after acquiring ABK.
The Lies of Phil Spencer have been adding up lately and the recent news surrounding Xbox Closing 4 of its Bethesda Studios comes at the worst possible time just 2 weeks away from the reviews and release of Hellblade 2 Senua's Saga & the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase this summer. Xbox has been deeply engulfed in controversy and backlash ever since Microsoft acquired Activsion Blizzard. Xbox has had to make severe staffing cuts through a series of layoffs and studio closures with canceled games and rushed development cycles in order to try and earn back the massive $69 Billion spent for ABK last year. In addition to that Phil Spencer has started porting certain Xbox "Gamepass Exclusives" to platforms like the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Despite this it doesn't seem to be enough to balance the budget to justify keep some of their smaller less profitable studios open despite Tango Gameworks developing the most critically acclaimed Xbox game in years and being the only foothold in Japan Xbox possessed. Throughout this Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox & Gaming at Microsoft, has been repeatedly caught lying both to customers and the very developers Microsoft employs across their studios and this latest round of studio closures proves exactly why Xbox is dying if Xbox isn't already dead. How are you supposed to trust a company this openly dishonest? No wonder why the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S aren't selling and Gamepass Subscription numbers have completely fallen off...

The Xbox one being a “media system” was Microsoft’s dumbass choice bc they have been itching to find a way into a hardware section of their business and the Xbox was their best chance. So they added all that extra shit and Don had to try his best to dance on stage to sell it.
This is also the fact that after they revealed the price Sony went back and changed their presentation to be $100 less than the Xbox too, that’s also to go along with the fact Sony was also gonna do the same thing as Xbox did with the Xbox One.

Microsoft closed theses studio's down but they gave 343 multiple chances, they ruined Halo 343 and never had a well-received Halo game. 343 is such an incompetent studio they can't even manage a free to play Halo. How in the hell is OverWatch 2 more successful than Halo infinite it doesn't even make any sense. 343 has been fucking up Halo left and right for 3 whole generations. It's pathetic.
I actually don’t mind halo infinite isn’t that bad as people said. My biggest issues were the lack of content at launch and not that many in game maps but community based maps and the overall expensive micro transactions and stupid battlepasses (edit I forgot empty open world over just linear missions or they could make different missions different sand boxes like metro exdous with set piece finales)thought the story was in the right direction and the gameplay felt like classic halo. Out of halo 4, and 5 they did do their absolute best for infinite but we all know the thing holding them is management and Microsoft really just like every other western AAA studio the Japanese seem to at least have a handle and work as a unit in development department but they are still dragged down by crappy publishers😮

His base is only there when he's on the game and only on whatever server he's randomly spawned into. Well, at least Doom would go out on a high note. COD and Halo, on the other hand, have been meandering for years --- the potential loss, to me, isn't very consequential. If anything, their destruction would free up space for new competition in the FPS market.

I´ve been saying it for years ... the minute Phil decided that all Xbox games go day and date on PC, that was the slow doom of Xbox losing all her value.

Why is everything either an "indie" game or project made by a 15 dev team or a hulking behemoth with a 300 million budget and 6 year development cycle. One of the best games of the last 5 years was From's "side" project of Sekiro which was made with a 70ish million dollar budget in around 2-3 years.

I don't think the market is big enough for 2 "general consoles" when both have 90% the same hardware and play the same games except for exclusives. The switch can survive because it's different
It would work, we saw a great balance in the US market with the 360 and PS3, MS just needed to make good games… but they can’t.
@@DarthAscension I think the issue is that consoles have homogenized into the same thing. On hardware level there really isn't anyh differentiator to tell them apart from a performance level. PS3 and Xbox360 were still very unique in their architecture and had their own strengths and weaknesses that exclusives were built around. This doesn't exist anymore, it's essentially the exact same experience. Considering the high costs of consoles when you include the subscpripitons etc, and the relatively LOW cost of PC gaming at the moment, it's really becoming a much better deal to play on PC, especially with all of the games essentially being released on there.

360 era Xbox had games, we all remember Halo 2 / 3, we all played gears of war… they just had the games back then that boys, young men, even adults loved to play… they had the first cod deal IIRC and let Sony take it and they ran with it but I remember MW1 and 2 on my 360 popping off in chat like all the rest.
They need good games and it’s clear that heart and soul is long gone (it’s clear it’s gone in the industry at a whole for AAA games… even phone games are designed to reach into my wallet and not for me to have real fun).

It was explained by a former employee that worked with Phil that it’s the Game Pass that’s causing it. There no actual revenue growth with a subscription service because the new games even good ones don’t result in more money on game pass or even more subscribers. It’s not financially sustainable so they kill off studios.

I’m glad I sold my Xbox years ago and only play pc and ps5 games. Whenever I’m interested in an Xbox game I just get pc game pass ultimate and pay $1 for a month. At this rate Xbox will never have its own first party titles.

Xbox been sitting on the golden egg of iD Software for 4 fucking years without a game. I'm all for letting them cook, but you have a gold mine and you're digging through recycle bins for copper wire. I can almost guarantee you that whatever iD has in the oven will be good, they really haven't released a poorly received game other than maybe Rage. But i guess considering Xbox's recent track record, they're gonna axe the damn studio right after making their 3rd generation defining game.

Just watched Upper Echelon's recent video on the MS studio closures, and I gotta say, the man's got a good take on that. Especially the economics of the CEO leave bonuses. I mean, MS gives it's CEO something like 400 mil as a bonus while closing 3 studios and firing something like 200 employees in the process. You can't make this shiz up.

Gears of war 3 is one of my favorite games of all time and some of the best memories I have of video games in general.
We had no idea how good we had it back then.

It's crazy that Microsoft despite having multiple publishers in their books and having the most profitable IP in the world next to Mario, Pokemon and Fifa of course, they continue to make horrible decisions. Yes Phil Spencer saved the Xbox brand from going under after the Xbox One disaster but his latest fumble is shutting down studios that won him awards while allowing 343 to continue failing with Halo. Why buy studios if they have no idea what to do with them. The loyal Xbox fans are done with the crap Microsoft are feeding them but there will be idiots that will try and justify this. The Xbox brand will die and the gaming crash is sooner than expected unless change happens and it starts with firing the idiots the are running Xbox.

Supported Xbox from the original all the way up to current gen. They spent last gen building this one up and have failed miserably. I began the switch to PC in 2020 with a 1660 super build, whilst still supporting Xbox, but after seeing how trash they've been I got a PC with a 4070ti, I7-13700KF, 32gb last year then sold my Series x earlier this year after giving up and enjoying PC.
The only console I now own is the Switch. I'm just completely done with Xbox at this point.

I lost my love for Xbox once Phil Spencer took over and how badly he handled the Xbox one and how bad the series consoles have been even though they are really good consoles but the software has been horrible. I’m so glad I switched to pc to not worry about shit like this happening.
I've been on Xbox since 2001. I will not be renewing my Game Pass or buying another console from them. They are the modern era Sega Dreamcast. Which is ironic because Microsoft partnered to build that console too. Go figure.

I'll never understand the compulsory need of these giant corporations to buy out small studios, only to throttle them to death or dissasemble them.
Microsoft doesn't want other companies to have them. So they buy them out, dissolve them, then scatter the talent, maybe have a "no competition clause" in their contract for added insult.
The only studio is gonna be game pass sign up for a subscription.
