- Getting Game Pass Ultimate for $6.60 / month seems too good to be true, but follow these steps and you too can have the cheapest subscription to Xbox out there. And the best part? This is only a 5 minute video. Ultimately it took me about 45 minutes to do everything but that was because I forgot some passwords when I started.
How you ask? By using Xbox's own system against them. This is why using a bunch of Game Pass Core keys together helps. Stacking them for 3 years is great, then when we transition to a Game Pass Ultimate we convert at a 3:2 ratio (so 3 years down to 2 years) but we get the awesome benefits of Game Pass Ultimate, which really is quite a bit..
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is an incredible way to play a lot of games for cheap, but $17 a month is way too much.

Hi, i have a question about the 3:2 conversion ratio, is that applicable only if i convert from game pass core to ultimate? I.e. should my xbox ultimate subscription be expired for this ratio to work?
I already have ultimate till Nov 24. So if i try to convert 12months game pass core to ultimate, it says i will get 4months ultimate

Am i missing something here, this is 3:1 not 3:2
If you have an existing ultimate subscription all conversions are 3:1 and not 3:2. So letting your account expire/ cancel will be the cheaper option.

Works great! Core is on sale at CDKeys and picked-up 3 years for $113.67. Converted to Ultimate for $0 (redeemed a 1-month Ultimate Pass had on hand from a previous TV purchase). Ended with 25-months of Ultimate for $4.55/month :)

i currently have xbox core for a year that started in December of 2023, if i buy 1 month of ultimate will it convert the rest of my core into ultimate? or at least for a couple of months?
Yes it will convert your remaining core into ultimate at a 3:2 ratio so for every 3 days of core you have remaining you’ll get two days of ultimate.
This is boss. FYI the prompts and screens have changed. It does not give the button slider for the 1 additional month when redeeming the 12 month core codes, only when you go to redeem the ultimate code now. I redeemed 2 x 12 month core, then the 1 month ultimate. After the 1 month ultimate, it did offer the recurring button for 1 free extra month. After that, it did not give me that would you like to convert or any message. I went back to services and subscribtions and i now have ultimate game pass through December of 2025. Total Cost - 12mth xbox core on cdkeys 42.89 x 2 + 1 month ultimate on cdkeys 10.99 = 96.77 for 17 months. (would have been 340 if paying 20 a month). Big win. Will share this video and liked/subbed

Does this work even if you did this method before? Also, does it have to be core memberships? A lot of retailers still have the old Xbox gold 12 month codes. I was wondering if they they would require different steps
The gold codes should translate as core for the next few years, I think the XBox FAQ states that. Same price point for the two. Also, this method has worked for me two or three times in a row now.

You can have anything BUT Game Pass ultimate active to do the conversion.

Still working in the UK, although i couldn't upgrade to Ultimate via another redemption tab, had to go to ''upgrade to ultimate'' instead, but no worries. Kudos
PS: You can ''Turn Off'' reacurring Billing prior to imputting your codes, that way you won't accidently bork it up?
Glad that it worked, for me I had to turn off the reoccurring billing every time I entered a new code. But if you can do it once that's even better.

Hi, my current ultimate subscription ends on 3/10. Would I have to wait until then to redeem 3 years of core and 1 month of ultimate, or could I redeem 3 years to my current ultimate subscription? Thanks for the help!
When I tried this it wanted me to pay for ultimate month to month. Im curious if it will let you redeem your core early, when I did it I was told I was ineligible. But I don’t see why it wouldn’t convert automatically.
I'd just wait until GPass Ultimate expires and then redeem all the GPass Core months, then I'd redeem 1 month of GPass Ultimate. I read that adding GPass Core to active GPass Ultimate subscription does the conversion in 3:1 scale. To make it work in 3:2 scale you have to let GPass Ultimate expire first, then redeem all GPass Core months you want, then redeem 1 GPass Ultimate month, and it'll surely do it in 3:2 scale
Does the conversion work if you have an active Game Pass PC (non-Ultimate) subscription? Thinking about trying it but my PC subscription just renewed yesterday so I'd have to wait a month.

It’s still fairly efficient that way. 2x 12 months of core = 16 months of ultimate + the 1 month = 17 months

If you have game pass core or console, yes. Whenever I try to add time to my ultimate it wants me to resubscribe at the higher rate. I’ll try with prepaid codes soon.

Conversion to core does still work, I’m working on an updated video and graphic based on what we know.
Basically, price increases took effect already. game pass standard and changes to conversion take effect Sept 12th, rates and ratios appear to have minor changes but with a hard cap of 13 months for ultimate

We’re only allowed up to three years at a time, and the last time I tried to add core/console gamepass it said I couldn’t. I am curious if it will automatically adjust for you though.
Adding 8 months of Core while Ultimate is active (not yet expired) will convert the 8 Core months into almost 3 Ultimate months. This because if you redeem Core when Ultimate is active it converts it in 3:1 scale, instead of 3:2 scale. The 3:2 scale works only if you redeem the Core months while Ultimate is not active, and then you redeem 1 Ultimate month (you can also start the Ultimate subscription from Xbox store, without buying/redeeming an Ultimate gift card. Just remember to disable auto renew after buying it from the Xbox store). If you do this method to get the 3:2 scale conversion you'll get about 5 months of Ultimate, instead of less than 3

You can absolutely do it at 12 months. You can get better pricing ratio at 36 months of core but the real trick there is using a company that gets the codes for cheap like cdkeys
Yes I think it's worth it to get it now, only buy what you can afford and enjoy what you have, right? If you can't get anymore right now its no big deal.

if you have CORE active you can continue stacking more core on top and then converting. the trick doesn't work if you already have GamePass Ultimate active.

I'm a bit confused about the purpose of purchasing 3 years of Core and 1 month of Ultimate. Does the 1 month of Ultimate at the end somehow extend the Ultimate benefits to cover the entire 3 years?
Also woot is having a decent sale. three years of core for $116.97 and one month of ulitmate for $11.79, I assume this will work as well?
The 1 month of ultimate at the end converts your 36 months of core to ultimate at a 3:2 rate. Turning 36 months to 24 months (3 years to 2) and then adding the 1 month you paid of ultimate for 25 total months of ultimate.
That sale is amazing. About $50 less than I spent I believe making it an amazing value for ultimate.

I’m not sure what you are asking. The old Xbox Live codes have been working for a while. Not sure if they’re discontinued but I would doubt it.

The console trial for $1 will be the cheapest way to convert all of that time to ultimate so I recommend that.
You can add up to 36 months of core before converting and it will go from 36 to 24 months of ultimate, then add in your ultimate code you redeemed. (Or 18 will convert to 12 months.)

It did for me, but I had to let my previous subscription expire. I think a few folks are trying to just add core to their existing ultimate subscription to see if that works too.

Yes, it'll still work the same but I don't typically trust ebay resellers.

Yes at a lower conversion rate, the current/old method was a 2:1 rate and the new method in September will be based on cost of the tier.
worked just now in the US but was only able to redeem 30 mons of core + 1 mon ultimate and it converted to 21 months ultimate which would bring $7.64 per month

did it using ebay, and it worked, put the game pass core keys first, then the ultimate and it gave me until april 11,2026 vs march 7th 2027 of just core... idk guess ill see if its worth losing a year of core.

Yes at least in 2024 that will be the case (per the Xbox FAQ)

if you buy 3x12 or 12x3 just input the codes and get all of the gamepass core time, then put in the ultimate and you're good.

When you apply game pass ultimate it will convert your subscription to ultimate, taking the 12 months of core to 8 months of ultimate + whatever ultimate subscription you purchase.

If you convert to ultimate it will convert all your time from core to ultimate, regardless of the length of the promo. I didn’t have that option so I bought a month.

To your question, Yes. It is still officially a 3:2 conversion rate. At least all of the literature for the US and UK still say 3:2.

I tried it with the 12 month core, I purchased 1 month game pass ultimates for $3 from CD keys and it converted my game pass to 12months and says recurring billing will start on 12/6/24

No, the conversion works with any amount of time BUT Gamepass will be limiting the max stack of ultimate from 36 months down to 13 months on Sept 12th.

It can be whatever you get your hands on, usually they have sales on certain ones at a time. So just get whatever you can at the cheapest price. 3 months, 12 months, whatever.

You can still add more time at a 2:1 conversion rate from the other gamepass tiers. I’m assuming that is going to change slightly at the end of July with the upcoming changes.

No, I used the 3 month cards myself. Just easiest to get 3x 12-month subscriptions instead of 12x 3-month codes to enter.

You can but it’s not cost effective. Luckily after the 3 months you can do it again

You're good if you don't have ultimate already, it's when you have an ultimate subscription that the conversion rate changes.
If you purchase an Xbox Gold card at Walmart which they still sell which transfers over to core you cannot redeem it unless you give them a credit card or a PayPal account and they told me they will not allow you to redeem gift cards unless you give them a PayPal or credit card account even though you paid them cash up front and it says nothing on the card that you have to give them that information to redeem so I'm out $25
What was the point of the CC/paypal? To have a subscription payment method?

What do you do after the 25 months of ultimate are up and there’s still almost a whole year left of core
So the 36 months of core disappear, converting into 24 months of ultimate. Once it expires I do the whole process again.
