  • I just recently purchased a Lumix s5 ii and love it. BUT, there are some things that you should know about before buying this camera. This ENTIRE video was filmed with the Lumis S5 ii with the 20-60mm Kit lens.
    *No noise reduction, stabilization, or clip manipulation was done in this video.*

    Thanks for the video + variety of tests!
    The section 3:55 - 4:42 was great at showing some smooth intentional shots vs the more casual way people like to document things. The fact that both can be done without a rig or gimbal (or slow motion) allows shooting to be a much more spontaneous thing which is the main thing attracting me to the camera.
    Is this IBIS only, and no active (electronic) stabilisation? Or both on?

    The Sony kit lens works great on the A7iv, so the kit lens on the Panny should work just as well. If Panny is similar to Fuji where AF performance is highly lens dependent, that will scare some people off for sure. Great video, new sub here!

    All videos I watched said Panasonic recommended using full Area Human AF mode, but within a couple of uses I found that for my style of shooting the “Zone” mode yields better AF since 99% of what I shoot is in the center of the frame

    • @9adriano21

      Agree with what Adrian says, especially if doing talk to camera and then show something in hand. Zone works perfect for that, otherwise, it stays locked on face

    Interesting low light issues here. Did you film in 1080p the segments where the autofocus was struggleling ? I saw similar issues & it seems that the autofocus is not at its best at 1080p in this camera.
    By the way did you use an external microphone ? I like the sound of your video. Thanks for sharing !

    • @izzydoh
      @izzydoh  Рік тому

      Everything was shot in 6k open gate. Low light autofocus is definetly this cameras Achilles heel. But maybe it’s a lens issue. And yes I used a rode video mic go and my computer mic in the studio.

    honestly the camera has its work arounds. That being said and coming from the gh4 with speed booster with no auto focus at all. This camera is a true game changer considering I paid the same amount for it as I did the gh4 ten years ago. The 1080 internal prores probably looks better than the gh4's 4k or looks just as good. What sold me was the ability to switch from full frame sensor to crop(super35mm). Auto focus hiccups here and there but with the right settings you get some awesome auto focus pulls.

    Awesome video! I also got the camera last week and it’s been an amazing experience. I’ve noticed I can’t open any MOV and RAW files on my MacBook. I have to use MP4 and JPEG to open files and edit them on davinci resolve and light room. Do you know what I can do to fix that? And did you experience the same thing ?

    • @izzydoh
      @izzydoh  Рік тому

      Thank you! You will have to use a converter or download Sillypix Developer Studio directly from the Panasonic Site to view and edit the raw files. panasonic uses a different codec for their raw files which is why you may be experiencing this issue.

    • @chennyye28
      @chennyye28 Рік тому

      You may already know, LR just release their new version which can open S5 II's raw file, and for MOV file, if it is 10bit, you need the paid version of Davinci resolve to open it, the same as any other 10bit files except prores 422, hope that will help.

    You are jumping from facial focus to object tracking to area tracking, did you adjust your settings in each of these modes or did you just leave it in auto? The OG S5 autofocus performed completely different when set up properly.

    • @izzydoh
      @izzydoh  Рік тому

    Hola!! Buen video, has sido honesto, comentando la realidad. Sería bueno que hicieras otro video igual, pero ahora con un 50mm ó 85mm f1.8, para ver qué tan bien funciona el enfoque automatico con un lente más luminoso, desde tu perspectiva. Por otra parte hay unos youtubers que comentan que los JPEG de la Lumix s2 presentan muchísimo ruido a 8000 ISO, no se si tu has investigado algo, sería de mucho valor tu comentario al respecto.Saludos desde Mexico!!

    11:09 Slower Lens and Aperture needing to go to F8 or F11 is what most of your issues here. For those situations with that lens, the face you had to crank your low light.
    I slow Weddings, but I always have lights. But again if you had a F2.8 cranking at 2000 or 2nd Native ISO of 4000 - Focus would have been snappy.
    I wouldn’t run and gun this without a dedicated F2.8 or F1.8 that way you could ride the ISO at a Minimum until you needed more in focus in frame then punch the ISO.
    As a Shooter of Canon, Sony & Panasonic this S5 II line is a phenomenal buy.

      The problem is not the camera. It's a cheap kit lens. Most kit lenses don't showcase the best attributes of any camera. Buying the most recommended reviewed lenses for your camera is also advisable. Glass matters. Try the sigma 24-70mm F 2.8 DG DN L mount. It has good reviews with the S5II, especially with the AF.

    I think you need to learn how to use the AF settings better. In other words, most of your test failures are user errors. And your tests are impractical and ridiculous. Low light looks great for a lens this slow.
