  • I hear all the time from other moms how they would love to have more kids, and maybe even homeschool, but they just don't think they have the patience for it. In this Mom Chat, I'm talking all about it...it IS possible to be a patient mom!

    Shirley, I just had to comment and say thank you for your videos. I just found your channel tonight (came across the pop up camper tour! I grew up in a family of 6 with a tent trailer ☺️ Nostalgia!) and have been watching/ listening to a bunch of your videos while cleaning up this evening. Anyway, this one on patience, as well as your video on yelling, and the one on teaching kids to obey, have all been so convicting... My two year old was holding my phone and “accidentally” switched what I was watching to the video on yelling... So I truly feel like God lead me to your channel, and these particular videos, and He’s been speaking to my heart. Thank you! I will now take what I’ve been learning, and pray about it, and work on applying it to my life, my mothering, and my homeschooling. To God be the glory.

      Oh my. Your comment has blessed me so so much. I always pray that the little videos I put out there will bless someone, so to hear when they do just blows me away. God is so faithful and good to speak to us when we need it most. Thank you so much for watching and especially for commenting

    Thank you so much, Shirley! I just started listening to you and I am ALREADY improving as a mom! This job is not easy. It's a lot of work A lot of working on ourselves mostly!! Working on ourselves before we can work on our kids. It takes a lot of hard work, but when you see your efforts and perseverance pay off, and that relationship you have with your children, it's so worth it!!!
    An area for some reason that I really struggle with is just saying no to my kids. It's not that I don't. But for some reason, I just kind of dread when I have to say no. I think here are a few reasons for that. 1. I don't like to "let my kids down", even though I know it's good for them to not always get what they want. 2. One of my children is very determined, and has just a stronger personality than me, so I see what's coming and it's like, ugh okay this is going to be tiring. 3. (THIS IS MY MOST RECENT REVELATION)- I can tend to care too much about being understanding with my kids, and therefore act it too much of an understanding/empathetic way. In other words, I just need to let of go of and stop caring so much about not coming across as caring/compassionate/understanding if I am just firm and just give them a firm "no" without thinking SO MUCH about how they will take it. It's so simple really, that saying no sometimes IS the caring/loving thing to do- even if the way you have to say something is firm and to the point and not wishy-washy. That is almost something with my personality that I need to work on. I think too much about how my kids FEEL, and not enough about what is GOOD FOR THEM. And it comes from a good place in my heart- wanting to be understanding with my kids- but sometimes (a lot of the time) a good firm confident "no" is the most understanding thing I can do for them.
    All that to say, I watched one of your other videos talking about saying no, and I love when you said "I love a good stand off". I thought, oh man I hate stand offs. But then I realized, it's a conference thing, and it's a thing where I have to realize I am not just there as a mom to show compassion to them. My job is also to be the one to say "you can't mess with me", and to own that. To tell myself, it's okay to be like that with my kids- to not be rude, yell or be mean. But to show then I'm tougher than them and they can't walk on me or push me over- it's one of the hardest parts of parenting to me- but when I do it, I feel like I have respected and take care of MYSELF more, and also my kids. Because being wishy-washy and trying to convince or reason, or even give in feels relieving in the immediate moment- but not afterward.
    So thank you for that! Part of it is also when I am more tired. It's amazing what getting sleep does!! Hard when I don't have much time to myself to not stay up late, but I am a much better mom and I have much better days when I do get sleep!

    I’m so thankful God led me to your channel, I stumbled upon you (not even knowing you were also a Christian!) through looking up homeschooling advice. As a girl growing up in a non Christ-centered home, there was a lot of yelling and hysterical breakdowns and unfortunately I’ve adopted those bad habits in my own parenting and I despise it. God has been working on this area of my life but I can feel it coming to a point and that it’s truly being worked out. I’m praying this cycle can be broken for my family as I am also a young mother of (soon to be) 4. My two oldest are 4 years old and 2 years old and I can see the pattern forming in them and I am crying out that God removes this horrible cycle and replaces it with patience in me first and in my children also (and lets be honest- also my husband). Thank you for your honest and biblical encouragement. I’ve seen other woman make videos on parenting that are like “I’ve NEVER raised my voice to my kids that’s just something I won’t do” and although I’m happy for them (if that’s true), it makes me feel more ashamed rather than encouraged. I know this video is older but I just wanted to thank you and keep up the Lord’s work! May He bless you and your family!

    So true!! I will be the first to say I am not cut out to be a homeschool mom! However, God has laid it on my heart that it is the best thing for my kids right now. He is showing me daily where I fall short and what I need to work on. Patience is at the top of that list! I have learned when I’m frustrated to take a deep breath and ask The Lord for His strength to stay calm... it’s amazing how He works!! Supernatural ability to react appropriately; It’s not me- it’s all Him!

    Thank you for the encouragement! This has motivated me (in a good way) to exercise more patience with my family. I’ve noticed lately myself becoming more and more impatient with my children especially! This is not good! I totally agree with what you are saying though! Patience is not a part of our genetics 🧬 it is a virtue; something to be obtained and something to strive for! It can get annoying at times when people suggest that I was born with a whole lotta patience! Which couldn’t be further from the truth! I feel like people use this as an excuse to not strive for it themselves! 😉

    • @ThisBlendedHouse
      @ThisBlendedHouse  5 років тому

      Oh wow. That is so good! It very well may be an excuse for some people to not strive for it themselves, I had never thought of that! I'm so so glad it was an encouragement to you! Thanks so very much for watching and commenting :) xo

    Love love love all of this! I think all mothers struggle with patience at one point or another. Viewing it as something that can be grown and developed is so incredibly important. This is something I want to be much more diligent about this year. Thank you for all of the insight! I love listening to your messages! What books have you read that have been especially encouraging to you as a mom/homeschooling mom?
