  • When you're home all day every day with 5 kiddos, the house can quickly become a hot mess. BUT, we can also get things back in order rather quickly because many hands do make light work! In this episode, I'm going to show you the super simple system that is working for us in this season.

I have had many surgeries and my family forgets the pain that I have and as a mom you don't want them to see you in pain, you have to be strong. So I do it all and fall behind and I increase my pain or the enemy tries to put resentment in my heart. NO MORE. This video has been such a blessing because I have tried to chores and make a system and it hasn't worked. Bless God for you and your family and Bless your family, this has been such an encouragement!! Thank you!

I love that yall work together and include the Lord.every moment is precious. Tell the older young ladies that I'm glad they show themselves doing chores because its encouraging to others their age .Also they see it's a normal part of life.May yall be blessed and have a blessed day.

Thank you for sharing your ideas! I like the idea of having the yellow box of "job ideas" for you to delegate out. Sometimes just having that handy is a lifesaver for tired brains.
Please share where you bought the tall cabinets you have next to your table (the ones with the horizontal slat doors). I love it. I know this is so random.

Looking for this. Thanks for sharing. I always remind my kids about 2 Corinthians 10:31 … i think its better to have a charts than saying it to them. So we all have a system inside the house.

Great system! Right now we have rooms that each child is responsible for keeping picked up. They're younger than yours so the bulk of the actual cleaning is still my job, but they'll get more responsibility as they age. So they each have a zone of the house they are responsible for, and we switch things up when the seasons change. That way they all are familiar with how every zone is done and anyone can fill in if one kid is sick or having a grandma day, like today. They also have individual responsibilities like piano practice and scripture memorization time that is part of our routine. I love seeing how other families do their chore systems! I need to steal your idea of having a list of specific chores to do. That would be very helpful!

I loved hearing how your family does it, Katie! I know several families who do the "zone" system...seems to be a great way to tackle household chores! :)

Oh my heart. Your oldest helped her sister with the windows because she couldn’t reach... and the others were helping carry the big stuff together. Goals. I have three boys under 6. I need your videos and advise. Thank you

Wow, such great points! My older 2 are 11, and almost 10...and I love the point of you are almost triplecating yourself!! Do you have a how you homeschool in your space video? I'm switching our homeschool area to our kitchen/living room and trying to get everything to fit (books, supplies etc)

I seriously am recording that this week! Our homeschool "room", which is mostly our main living area ;) But I will show where we store all of our curriculum!

I think kids should say put their own laundry away. Also moms should do the most cleaning. Happier home

Hi, I love this system and have 5 kids as well. Do you happen to have a download of the chart you made or would it be possible to get a copy of it emailed?? Thanks!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I do have a question about training your kids to do their jobs.... Do you take the time to teach them at a different time, or just write /explain very specifically when you assign jobs? Do you do your own jobs at the same time or do you wander around supervising /helping? Do you inspect their jobs afterwards? I heard a great quote, you cannot EXPECT what you are not willing to INSPECT, otherwise our kids don't know /learn if they are doing it correctly /completely. I struggle with my girls (5&8)always " needing" help during our cleanup time, or not doing a thorough job that I make them go back to afterwards. I would love to know how you handle training and checking. Also, do you try to vary jobs or do they all stay basically the same? (like the trash 😉) I love that in this system you can add new necessary jobs as they come up instead of having kids always do the same, when something else might be needed more! Brilliant!! I really feel like this new system could help actually take things OFF my plate rather than add to it!!

I assign them jobs they already know how to do, but I have no problem taking our chore time and teaching them how to do a new job :) However, I am usually doing my own job while they are doing theirs. I love the quote you mention! It's one my husband and I actually say! We learned it in our ministry years. After chore time I usually just go around and make sure it all got done well. Jobs vary but it does seem the boys always have trash :) My 6 year old still tends to need some help and that is fine as long as its something that I legitimately feel like he is incapable of doing on his own. If he is capable, I encourage him to do it alone. If they complain about that? They get more jobs ;) Thanks for watching and commenting, Julia! xo

Do you do use this same system at different times through out your day? I struggle with feeling like all we do is "pick up" We have a pick up in the morning too, because my boys are under age 9 and they arise out of bed pretty early so they play before we start breakfast and morning jobs (dressed, beds teeth) how does the rest of your day look with jobs for your kids.

    • @ThisBlendedHouse
      @ThisBlendedHouse  5 років тому

We actually do a similar pick up before their dad gets home from work! But that one is more just putting things back where they belong :)

How do you train your kids to fo this? I have a 6 and 3 year old and its pulling teeth. They REFUSE or melt into a puddle on the floor or say they just cant.

Since my kids were little, I've worked with them over and over and over again on obedience and respect. I've had one of my kids cry before because they had to do chores and I added more chores to their list. Every complaint earned them an extra chore. They learned pretty quickly that complaining about work doesn't get them very far ;) Having a good work ethic is a pretty big deal in our house!

Hi Jennifer! I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing this! :) No, our children do not earn money for doing their daily chores. However, my oldest daughters have done jobs outside of their daily chores and have earned money for them. Most recently, they pretty much got all the leaves up from the yard by themselves and we paid them for that :) Thanks so much for watching!

My daughter gives too many chores and like her 9 yr old does family folding of laundry. It takes her over hour in tears. Washing all family dishes too much. I think moms should work with kids. They have more motivation w help.
