  • Have you ever had anyone try to explain a mechanic to you, but instead of English you could have sworn they were speaking some ancient tounge?
    Well this video is here to help explain what that person was talking about!
    In this I explain what the common names for certian mechanics are and what they do.

    an interesting mechanic that (as far as i know?) only comes up once in the game: a stack gaze marker. it’s on the last boss of the final HW alliance raid, and requires you to stand in the stack marker while facing away from the marked player.

    • @misawa8629
      @misawa8629 5 місяців тому

      That same thing technically happens in Deltascape 4.0 savage....but it's not one marker. It's just a series of debuffs that cause a stack/gaze/knockback/forked lightning to happen all almost at once.

  • @Duskaria
    @Duskaria 2 роки тому +55

    One more thing not in the video: AOEs traveling across the ground in a straight line instead of chasing a player are usually refered to as "Exaflares".
    They are usually indicated by a regular yellow AOE circle having a arrow ontop of it indicating which direction the AOE will move in.

    • @roetemeteor
      @roetemeteor 2 роки тому

      There's also what I call the "merry-go-round." These are usually found in the Dalmascyn raids aka Lighthouse, Monastery, and That one other one that's pretty boring. Those are attacks that start off doing ONE direction, but will then change direction, sometimes in a circle, sometimes in a line. Lighthouse is a good example with your Third Grade Math teacher, as he will drop a cone AoE that will target the north corner of the arena and quickly rotate the arena, then once again when he goes into 'Demolish' state, upon which you will need to avoid this but with the addition of needing to have sprint up or movement options to avoid biting the dust.

    • @titaniumvulpes
      @titaniumvulpes 2 роки тому +3

      Other additions: Continual-hit stacks, AKA Akh Morn stacks, where you have to remain stacked for several hits of the attack and if the person with the marker dies it will jump around to other players until the attack ends or you wipe. Blizzards: Opposite of pyretics, where if you're NOT moving when the attack goes out you're frozen for several seconds (you do have to be moving, just attacking won't work :( ask how I know). The Ozma variation of the Dice, where for whatever reason you get the pyretic effect for the 3 seconds during the dice's countdown and on the execution of the dice it explodes causing bleed to everyone around you, because Ozma's a jerk and needs to feel special. Sweep The Leg, any 270-degree front attack leaving a small safe cone behind the enemy. Magnet Tethers, where two things (such as players or AOEs) are tethered together with big + or - signs; they work like magnets (if the symbols are different, they're yanked together; if they're the same, they're blasted apart).
      New addition as of 6.0: Tank stack, a combination tank buster/stack where at least 2 tanks have to eat a buster together, indicated by a red circle around one tank with two orbiting red orbs. Do not try to stack in this if you're not a tank or you'll be sad.

    the other thing about chains is (at least in some fights if not all) the chains breaks based on distance walked after it's attached, not distance from chain partner. meaning dont pre-move away in anticipation of chains because you will have less room to walk. If anticipating chains, stay near the group/partner until the chain appears then move away.

    • @raventhorX
      @raventhorX 11 днів тому

      I feel like this should be shown on the FFXIV MythBusters video. I don't think i've ever had a chain break just by moving in general, it always felt like it required moving away from the partner.

    • @GamerzBrofessional
      @GamerzBrofessional 11 днів тому

      @@raventhorX it does require moving away from the partner. But it's based on how far away from your partner you move after the chain appears. The end distance doesn't matter, just the distance created after the chain is formed

      @GamerzBrofessional 11 днів тому

      @@raventhorX I'm not saying that that's exactly how it works, but it is seemingly how it functions. Preemptively moving away doesn't seem to make any progress on breaking the tether. I dunno what people call it, but another reused mechanic is what I call "swords", first seen in the Ravana fight as Swift Slaughter. Where some players are marked with different numbers of blue swords above their head which indicate that the boss is going to attack them in that order, usually by charging/jumping at them in a line.
    There's also the similar "numbers" where players get marked with blue or red dots above their head, which also indicate the order of targeting.
    There's also one that sometimes shows up in alliance raids, where some players get a red triangle marker on their head, which just means stack with at least one other person with the marker.

    I think the solid tether you’re thinking of might be the red dragon tethers from the World of Darkness 5 headed dragon fight. There is also the ice mechanic from snowcloak but has shown up in Ex death and more recently Castrum Lacus Latore where you will WANT to move. There is also the earth skill that pulses out in rings that I can’t remember the name of. But this is a nice PSA to newer players. Maybe another thing worth mentioning are the interruptible flashing skills of bosses that tanks and ranged dps can interrupt.

    Another common variant of the tether is the Magnetic Tether. The tethered players will have a polarity that changes the way they'll interact with each other. Similar polarities repel away, opposite polarities attract. Usually, when it's an opposite polarity mechanic, the players will receive damage and a debuff if they get pulled close enough to touch each other. This first appeared on Living Liquid in Alexander.
    Another that pops up occasionally is the "vital hit box" as I usually call it. Three out of four of the quadrants of your hitbox are marked with a crackling yellow indicator while one quadrant remains normal (front, back, left, right). The boss will use a targeted ability that will kill you if the side facing him is vulnerable to the vital hit. This first appeared in Orbonne Monastery's first boss.
    The "Numbering System" also keeps popping up lately. Each player has a certain number of dots above their head, indicating which order they'll be targeted in. Sometimes this can also appear in the form of swords. This mechanic made its debut with Ravana but became more popular with Cruise Chaser in Alexander (and now Diamond Weapon Extreme).

    Very good job there, it looks like you really dig into it by going to old fights desync just to record them, that's dedication.
    Some other ones I can think about and you forgot to mention are:
    "Divebombs", green or orange circles over a players head that needs to baited away and when it disappears run back to the party (since Twintania in T5 and then most fights that have a big Dragon usually, UCOB being divebombs paradise).
    "Puddles/Pools" to remove a debuff (to remove dooms from Nael at T9 and UCOB, Etc.) or transform your self into something to avoid damage or status effects (Antitower's last boss until Dalriada's second boss, some other in-between) or soak other mechanic (since Twintania's neurolinks T5/UCOB or water puddles at Syrcus Tower first boss Scylla to decrease damage from Ancient Flare).
    "Bleed/poison/electricity bubbles (or just bubbles?)" that targets a player and that person needs to place them away from everyone because they begin to grow and if you step into them, they give you a nasty bleed or other debuff (Sephiroth, Thunder God, Sit of Sacrifice, etc.).
    "Liquid Hells", small single orange icon over the head of a character that need to be place away and always left behind a puddle of fire (since Twintania T5 until second boss at The Puppet's Bunker and many other fights in-between).
    One that is new but is already been used in other fight is "Ferrostorm" from Ifrit in Eden's Verse Furor, 2 to 3 big horns that come out from the ground around the boss that shoots a cone attack from each of the horns, It is also in the fight against the Queen's Knight at Delubrum Reginae Savage, the mechanic name is "Optimal Play" but since it has the same horns as "Ferrostorm" is now the standard name.
    Also, "Donut AOE" is called "Lunar Dynamo" by many old players since Nael (T9).
    Thanks for the video.

    Another mechanic not pointed out here is the blue puddle-like knockback marker such as in Sephirot and Titania. Staying in the blue puddle deals massive damage, while staying out of it knocks you back, usually shows up in fights where you can fall off the arena.
    Although not really a marked mechanic, there's also what some people call Akh Morn, a stack marker AoE that hits multiple times so everyone needs to stay inside for the full duration. Although it's recurring it's not always called Akh Morn so some people might be confused when hearing the term.

    Shriek, I never remember where it came from, but in essence it is a Raid wide Stare/Glare that will go off of the position of a teammate, they won't be affected but the rest of the team can be.

    Something with Glare/Gaze attacks:
    If you have an AoE attached to the Glare/Gaze you can avoid it in two ways.
    1) Get out of the AoE. Then it doesn't matter if you're looking at the caster or not, you won't be affected
    2) You can stay in the AoE, but turn away from the caster and you won't be affected.
    I've had a few novice healers Rescue me out of Gaze/Glare attacks with AoEs because I didn't get out of the AoE even though I had turned around and was safe.

    Another type of proxy aoe that makes the name "meteor" make less sense can be found in a certain ShB trial (The second one, not saying name for potential spoilers); The proxy aoe is a line down the middle, which negates the whole "meteor" concept but it's still a proxy aoe.

    It's gotten so bad with raids, that these are the easy ones, because they share a common 'language' like you pointed out. A logic that can be deciphered because it's consistent. • @VicWrightFFXIV

      Another thing is that elemental attacks usually have the same mechanics, like when a freeze attack is coming you prevent getting frozen if you keep moving, burning attacks yo prevent getting burnt by staying still and not attacking, lightning will strike every player with an aoe so the party has to spread and earth will create lanslides in a straight line. It helps a lot, also is natural in a Final Fantasy that a lot of enemies have the same spells.

    • @VicWrightFFXIV
      @VicWrightFFXIV  3 роки тому +2

      So there’s a mechanic I’ve accidentally left out of the video where the eye marker appears above a player and to solve it everyone looks away from the player. In this fight you have to stack in with them but not look at them.
      So just turning to look out of the edge of the aoe you’re at should do the trick.

I found out upon dying on a dungeon and getting stoned by the chat as to what I apparently did wrong. This is a major fault with the game and if people say this game is perfect no; theres alot to improve as always the organisation is profiting after all.

    Aoes with Gaze only work while in the aoe. You can still stand in the aoe and look away to avoid the effects as melee/tanks. Rang/casters can keep looking at aoe gaze enemies without repercussion as long as they’re not in the aoe. 🥰
