    I always figured Shirk was to only be used when the DRG refused to floor tank for the group.

      As a DRG, never use it on us, we don't need help with killing ourselves, those who refuse to tank the floor aren't true dragoons

    Ironically this video drops after I've had a streak of awful tanks over the weekend. From a Gunbreaker who refused to use any mitigation other than Rampart(I somehow kept him alive through the dungeon) to a Warrior who openly admitted to forgetting about Raw Intuition/Bloodwhetting, to a Dark Knight who forgot about TBN, to a Warrior who literally forgot what mitigation even IS, even after I reminded him and he runs in and makes the exact same fatal mistake less than 30 seconds later.
    EDIT: Got another bad tank to add. This one, the only mitigation he used was…Clemency! As soon as his HP hit 70%, theres the cast bar. Even when I assured him I could handle it, and he even got mad for Rescuing him out of a would be fatal attack against the final boss of the dungeon. The boss was basically dead, so I could have let him die without consequence, but that’s not what a good white mage does

      I usually get the opposite DRKs, the ones who only use TBN and no other mitigation on a wall to wall.

      @@bananagher7555 when I DRK, I open with only TBN, then use Shadow Wall after it breaks and I heal a bit with Abyssal Drain. TBN again when it cools down, Rampart and Arm’s Length after it breaks. Third TBN, paired with Reprisal, and…yeah the enemies are probably dead by now. I don’t have Oblation yet, but soon I’ll add it in. I save Living Dead either as an emergency, or if I know it’s gonna be a really rough pull, Living Dead comes right after the first TBN breaks, with a warning to my healer about my plan. Now whether or not they heed that warning…

      People always get pissy when Rescue is used to literally rescue them. "Why not just heal me through the damage?" "Honestly my friend, you're not worth a single Cure 1's worth of mana, that's why."

    2:07 In my experience this is half true. In ARR and HW, most of the time two groups is normal but at the other expansions I was expected to wall to wall pulls. I've had party members run ahead of me just to aggro the next group even when I take a lot of damage. This did force me to remember most of the dungeon layouts but i'll still forget how many mobs there are. Wall to wall pulls are what give me tank anxiety, that and tank swaps, I don't understand when I need to tank swap sometimes (without a guide or leader). Sucks because I love Paladin, got to lvl 90 and everything
    sorry for the rant lol

      In my opinion if you're tank you choose the pace of the dungeon especially if new, WtW I only do if I've done the dungeon 2 to 3 times and learned the layout a bit.

    Wall to wall pull has a lot of nuance to it but is pretty much expected on any dungeon after 50. They are simply designed to be played that way. Earlier dungeons can have quirks to them that can makes this difficult. If you dont pull wall 2 wall you'll soon see DPS or Healers pulling ahead of you to remind you to move forward. This could be considered insulting to some tanks. Especially old-school ones. Which leads to this next point: "You Pull You Tank" is considered griefing in FFXIV, and can give you a ban.

    • @Maha-gx4zm
      @Maha-gx4zm Місяць тому +1

      Pulling up ahead of tank when you have been told not to will also earn you a ban .depending how mean or in what stupid mean way you react to it

    • @HayTatsuko
      @HayTatsuko 29 днів тому

      Trying to force the tank to change their playstyle or pace is as much griefing as YPYT is. If some jackwagon tries to make me do more than double--pulls on Mt. Gulg, I am absolutely not going to risk the other two members of the team to save them. My loyalty is to those team members who are playing in the team's best interest, not the one trying to rush things.

    I wish more Tanks knew about how excellent Arm's Length is for big trash pulls in dungeons. Another very important thing is using the line-of-sight mechanic to draw in enemies that exclusively use ranged attacks. They're the ones that won't come to you unless you hide from them. After you aggro the enemy group, run and hide behind the nearest corner to make all of those enemies come to you so everything will be grouped up for your team to wreck them quickly with AoE!

    thought all arms length did was prevent knockback ~the more you know~ also wasn't sure how tanking early trials went as I'm leveling my first tank. Sounds like pop defensive per usual if your the mt and shirk and get adds if your not. Sweet!

    If MT has multiple vuln stacks would it make sense for the OT to provoke?

    • @danbagon924
      @danbagon924 6 місяців тому +2

      In normal content, the MT or healers may find that insulting or annoying, even if justified. It's better to just stay second in aggro for if the tank dies so that you can prevent any stray autos/tank busters on DPS/Healers and keep the boss positioned correctly.
      However in some fights the boss may put special vuln stacks on the main tank that will require a tank swap to stay alive. If you notice this you can and should provoke to take the hits before it kills the main tank to no fault of their own.
      This is more common in extremes/savage, but some of the normal alexander raids can be brutal towards the main tank if the off tank doesn't swap. A5 and 6 both come to mind, so if you're DPS or OT next time you do those raids, look at the debuffs that appear next to the MT on the party list or flash over their character name. If you see a stacking counter, chances are provoking will save their life. Just be careful not to provoke if they popped their invulnerability to deal with it instead.
      TLDR: Typically better not to provoke in normal content and just remain second on aggro except in niche circumstances you recognize through experience. Alliance raids may vary if a tank is bad at positioning or about to die, as well as if you see bosses or enemies tethered together, then you as the OT need to provoke one and take it across the arena.

    I think it's also useful to know during dungeons it doesn't matter who pulls the mobs. In fact as a tank I love it when a ranged job pulls because they have much further reach than I do and they will force all the mobs into a group for me to casually run by and hit them as I continue to run to the wall. As long as the healer is on their toes and takes the hint then everyone just sprint to the wall at that point. However...when I'm not the tank I'm constantly being flamed for pulling and keep in mind these tanks are "Ultimate Legend" like dude just pull stop whining just hit stuff...sometimes I even pull the boss because the tank is too slow and my burst window is seconds away from timing out...that's 1000+ potency just wasted and all it took was to pull the boss literally a couple seconds before the tank gets there, but apparently that's taboo because the tank is supposed to pull... "Ultimate Legend"

    Little correction on the wall to wall pull section of the vid: you are usually expected to pull w2w unless you are a sprout or generally have little to no experience as a tank. And even if you are one and never tanked before, you better learn how to w2w in the real conditions or you'll always stay where you are with no progress. We all were there once and had to learn how to pull and use our defensive cooldowns properly. It's ok if you die once or twice. FFXIV doesn't punish you with anything but gear durability loss. You'll get better learning on your mistakes. No one likes when your averge roulette takes forever because tank is pulling one add at a time. We just can't say it directly in the game chat due to ToS to avoid getting reported by some petty Karen. As for the healers struggling to heal w2w pulls: you better find a HoT or two or a mitigation spell on your hotbars while spamming that only damage dealing button you have for 15 minutes straight and you'll be fine. And for the love of God please do not just spam Cure or Benefic waiting for Cure II or Benefic II to proc or Physick for the whole duty if it is above level 30. Healers are braindead simple in this game. Take your time to read the spell descriptions.

      News flash: Healers have cast times. I can't heal your ass if you are zooming to the next wall pulling the entire dungeon with you. You won't always be at a dungeon that level syncs you where I have oGCD heals.

    • @Madoyon.
      @Madoyon. Рік тому

      @@silverman1205 sounds like a major skill issue to me. None of the 8 sprouts with no previous MMORPG experience I invited to the game and taught tanking ever died in a w2w pull in a normal 4-man dungeon while I was learning how to play WHM/AST/SCH/SGE myself after topping everyone else to 90. All it took for me in a content of level 50 and below was maintaining one shield/HoT and pressing one 700 potency GCD heal from time to time if available while constantly spamming the only available dps button and refreshing the only DoT. And it's even easier below level 30 where you only have one weak 400 potency heal button, since adds don't hit that hard there. And I'm not even a healer main. All it took for my sprouts to stay above 50% hp, btw, was finding Reprisal, Rampart and Arm's Length on the bar. Moreover, when they saw how other tanks, and not even sprouts, babysit 1-3 mobs in a dungeon for the first time, instead of making a nice pack to AoE them down, they only expressed a slight disappointment on discord. One dude even started helping tanks pull while playing healers, even if I told him not to do so and accept his fate with a slowpoke tank.
