how old are you? if you don't mind me asking. This is unrelated to your comment. I'm almost 29. Sorry for being weird lol .It's just a curiosity. I guess it's because I'm reading these comments from all these punk enthusiasts and I just picked you for this random experiment. Now I kinda get those "I'm this age and I listen to this" type of comments 😅
FINALLY some love and recognition for Romeo and Rebecca. It’s one of my fav early blink songs along with Marlboro man. I never hear those songs get mentioned anywhere but I love playing both on guitsr and drums when im just jamming out
@@jprosentreter For sure dude. The bass in the chorus of Rise Against's Give It All is probably my favourite bass line from Joe. Like the Angel is awesome too of course!
Great video! I play the guitar, but whenever I'm listening to a lot of punk rock, it makes me wanna learn the bass! Just wanna add that I was really hoping to see "bent but not broken" by Face to face here on this video.
Just putting this out there, but Pat Mello has done jazz walking basslines, 16th notes, and some crazy fretboard work fingerstyle playing stand-up (and fretless electric). He also slaps. If that doesn't sound "punk", the dude was in Schlong (The band Dave split to form in part because "Op Ivy and Downfall weren't 'punk enough'".) "But punk is simple, they're all 4 chord songs"... Those guys covered the entirety of the cast recording of West Side Story. Blackout drunk. In one take.
I expected that AFI song in this video, nice. You should give a listen to that Oi Punk band from Paris called LION'S LAW, especially the "from the storm" full length. The basslines are incredible. There's an awesome bass solo on the song "a thousand eyes"
awesome video, i looked at the time stamps as i started the video and kept thinking of examples for each such as always for chords and when i come around for hammer on and pull offs.. you used the bands just not those songs lol
What was the 1st song on the 3rd Phase cos I wrote a riff on guitar exactly like that and I thought it was bloody original!! Turns out I'd heard it somewhere before!!
Do you have a tab of Drag my body? Ive played it and kind of have the fill at the end of the 2nd verse (i think youll know the one i mean) but Its not 100%
Kind of... not entirely. There's a LOT more to it actually. For example, people ought to broaden their knowledge by listening to other things such as David Alexander's playing on '1969' by The Stooges. This is the bass track from that recording session: ua-cam.com/video/OzsTYuk4JmU/v-deo.html This one is 'No Fun'. ua-cam.com/video/winGUoqUNlU/v-deo.html
A couple of general rules i would suggest is most punk bass players only down pick, or in some instances play finger style, alternative picking is somewhat frowned upon, much like when guitarists play Master of Puppets with alternate picking.

Stage 6 is always something I love hearing in punk music. The Press Corpse by Anti Flag is one of the coolest examples of that.

Even in punk rock i think the groove section is the most important. A dope drummer and bass player and you're halfway there. Great video!
90% there - anyone can do vocals, it’s punk lol. And how hard are power chords?
I always jam with my drummer. We kick the groove in
FINALLY some love and recognition for Romeo and Rebecca. It’s one of my fav early blink songs along with Marlboro man. I never hear those songs get mentioned anywhere but I love playing both on guitsr and drums when im just jamming out
I bet your band mates are stoked to have you as a bass player.
Sacrifice Theory is a baller bassline. Hunter from AFI is a very underrated bassist
100%
Probably the main reason why i listened to them.
Glad to see Drag My Body getting some love, great bassline!!
i'm always proud of u, that u always remember about rufio
I spent nearly the entire video thinking that Sacrifice Theory HAD to be on here.
Well, you definitely delivered.
Same.
I was thinking “Sacrifice Theory” and “The Horse” HAD to be on this list.
Happy to see that both were the ones closing the video.
3:12! Yes! That's the jam right there! Joe Principe is awesome!
Dude always gets overlooked when talking KILLER bass players....from 88 Fi gers to RA Joe just RIPS!!!!
@@jprosentreter For sure dude. The bass in the chorus of Rise Against's Give It All is probably my favourite bass line from Joe. Like the Angel is awesome too of course!
I like punk exactly because the bass stands out a lot in every style of playing and adds to the melody
Wow for the tapped play on the bass. It´s difficult enough for me to train it on my guitar, but on a bass i think it´s stronger. Respect!
my fingers hurt just looking at it
Dude that tapping section was Sick.. EVH would be proud of that..
Drag my body. What a song. What lyrics. What a video. Thanks for including that - and all around thanks for that beast of a video!
Great video! I play the guitar, but whenever I'm listening to a lot of punk rock, it makes me wanna learn the bass!
Just wanna add that I was really hoping to see "bent but not broken" by Face to face here on this video.
Ever since the video started I was like: “Where’s the song? Play the song! Come on!” And there it is 10:20
im in love with that tapping riff
My favorite baseline in all of punk is “The Greatest Gift” from Scratch Acid. Some might say they aren’t punk but those people don’t know what’s up.
rufio had such sick basslines on that album
Welp, now I need to go pick up my bass again. Also digging the Twin Peaks shirts!
Such a great video!!! Helps bassists around the world to justify their ideas towards guitar players. Be brave, play what comes to your mind and fits.
88 fingers louie hell yeah, Joe is a great punk bassist
Ooh seeing some love given to Hot Water Music made me happy. Your band choices were spot on nonetheless.
Great choices...RIP Jim Cherry
Happy to see Road To Recovery, my fav song from Rufio
Drag My Body by Hot Water Music is one of my favorite bass songs.
Drag My Body grove is my personal fav of the video
Aaayyyeee some 88 Fingers Louie love!
Great video. What's the name of the band at 3:52 ? Can't make it out on the cover . Thanks
Thanks! The band is called Jawbreaker.
they totally rock. unfun is a really good album
Damn that Horse song by A Wilhelm Scream! 🔥
Love me some MXPX! Most underrated a punk band ever
all the boys in the straightedge scene are in the basement huffing gasoline!
@@harrisonwoods9121 haha. What is this? 1994? 🤣. I haven’t heard that verbiage in years. That’s hilarious. I’ve just always loved that band.

The steamed hams shirt is godly

Redbubble I believe 👍

Bass is essential to punk.
thanks master
This is pretty sick
3:53 Band?
Jawbreaker I think
Jawbreaker - Want
What is the song at 4:54, I know the music but can’t think of the song name
Chick Magnet.
Great video
Take Matt Freeman, from Op ivy until the last productions, and you have them all, and much more.
I love Principe
Can you pleade tell me the name of the band, which plays "want"?
Jawbreaker
@@overdrive6687 thank you - couldn't find the answer anywhere!

intro to Still by Rufio!
Lol i do the opposite. Im a punk bassist playing in a metal band. I always try to throw a lil Freeman in when i can...
Drag my body is a tune!
Someone please help and tell me what that intro song is i just barely don’t know what it is
Hey man is that an ac30 in the background?
Level 11: Charles Berthoud
Level 12: Carousel
rufio rufio rufi ooooooooooo
(throws away bass guitar that had been playing on since '07. after watching this video)
What's the first song in chords?
How did you miss "Class War" by the Exploited?
What's so special about that? It's more or less just root notes the whole way through.

No Holiday in Cambodia makes me sad for the chordal part
I think u already uploaded this sort of vid, didn't u?
I did 10 levels, but that video I'm playing bass lines that I made up. This one was supposed to be about pre-existing bass lines.
@@SugarpillProd gotcha
Punk becomes prog at the upper levels lol 👍

You're missing a couple of notes in that Want bassline.
