I've said this before in my "10 Styles of Punk" video but the Misfits have some gnarly lyrics! What are your favorite styles/bands in punk music? Anything that I missed or totally fucked up in this video? Feel free to let me know in the comments :)
"I Ain't No God Damn Son Of A Bitch! Ya Better Think About Baby" -Misfits be Gnarly
The description has Warsaw Speedwolf described as (Celtic Punk) and now I NEED to have celtic punk exist as a genre. (edit - nvm I forgot dropkick murphys exist, I need coffee)
My favorite is The Misfits, hands down! Green Day is awesome too.
Rage Against The Machine. Sure you may consider it rage rock, or nu metal, but I see it more as punk without the crazy raw distorted tone.
Also I really like the adolescents. Pretty small band, mostly known for Tony Hawk and GTA, but they have some crazy good stuff.
Привет из России! Послушай "Король и шут".
My dad actually saw Green Day several times when they were still independent, and they called them "melodic punk", and I think that's a good name for the style they go for.
Melodic punk is art punk and most early New Wave bands
Not bad considering what came before them... Or powerpop, i kinda like that.
maybe alt punk it´s near to the style
I always just associated them with pop punk
Older punk is pretty melodic. Like if you listened to Television, they probably aren't what you'd conisder punk.
That transition from American Idiot to Hybrid Moments 👌🏼
Fr it fits perfect
I feel the need to mention that My Chemical Romance only became what was shown here as "Emo" with their second album. Their first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, is emo post-hardcore.
Emo is itself a Hardcore subgenre (See the OG Emo band, Rites of Spring). Emo, like Hardcore itself, eventually separated from Punk, and I'd say the album that did that wasn't an MCR album but was actually the second Brand New record. That was the moment Emo became its own genre, much the same way that Madball was the point where Hardcore Punk became just "Hardcore".
I love The post hardcore they made in IBYMBYBMYL but I think a better example of their Post Hardcore Career would be their Second album with at least 70% of the songs having more modern Post-Hardcore influence then most of their 1st Album, the problem is that most of emo is getting the Metalcore treatment where it’s such a broad spectrum of music you could classify most of the original style still within the genre while the modern genre is either within 2-3 different types of style with varying sounds.
@@Samxmael I love that acronym. IBYMBYBMYL sounds like something someone would write to represent alien sounds or something lmfao
😂😂 'emo post hardcore', I think we've gone a little overboard with all the subgenres and labels
@@wesselkodrums5501 yes because you wouldn’t consider Rites of Spring a Post-Hardcore band.
Hardcore punk bands are Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Gang Green etc.
Ideation, JIVEBOMB, and G.L.O.S.S. as well
Don't forget doa, the exploited
Check out the Speed Humps. They released an ep not that long ago and it’s pretty good.
Those are awesome bands but you should of included GBH and gorila biscuits
also leathermouth
I'm speaking from Korea. This video is very interesting I've been into punk lately, and I like Rancid the most
Samyanghamnida or whatevs
What's your take on Korean punk? 18Fevers, Rumkicks, Slant, Rux etc?
You might like heavier ska punk if you're a rancid fan, I'd suggest bands like Less Than Jake, Goldfinger, and Operation Ivy
@@BearGaming7458thanks!
The entire album of out come the wolves is just perfection

О-о-о МОЯ ОБОРОНА
A Day To Remember is easycore (a blend of pop punk and metalcore)
if you like metal ore, then you’ll like the band designer disguise. You may have heard of them, but they take pop songs and turn them into metal core songs
I thought easycore was pop punk with breakdowns
Thank you
@@btiegadon’t ask questions about what genre something is you will lose your mind
That fits under Post-Hardcore, since OG Metallic Hardcore also was a form of Post-Hardcore (See bands that frequently crossed both elements like Refused). ADTR doesn't take anything from the inherently Metal form of Metalcore (The "Diet Melodeath" brand that Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage started). They're more descended from Poison The Well than anything, in fact, they're arguably the natural evolution from Poison The Well's style.
I didn't know I wanted a guy dressed like Billie Joe Armstrong in the American Idiot Era to sing God Save the Queen by the sex pistols...but low and behold I have it anyway
Crust punk, D-beat, Grindcore, and anarcho-punk my beloved
d.r.i. rules
D-beat: You Tear Me Up of Buzzcocks was the first
This man knows what’s up
fuck yeah
D beat is peak
every style of punk is absolutely amazing!
edit: your voice fits MCR perfectly
I just started listening to punk rock etc closest thing I listened to b4 was grunge and that was it
Would u explain who mcr is google isn’t helping me

Pop-Punk, between Punk and Pop-Punk, and Emo are the greatest for me. Great vid!
punk and pop punk are COMPLETELY different
2000s vibes
@@Tommxp pft
@@Tommxp oh no..
Everything in the thumbnail aside from Sex Pistols and Wolfbrigade is in essence pop punk and the sex pistols slide by that definition by being early. Like, some do Ska stuff and have horns and some wear makeup and one plays a bit faster but thars pop punk yo
Would put Rise Against more under a "Melodic Hardcore" label as opposed to just Hardcore Punk. I'd say Hardcore Punk is more Comeback Kid than Rise Against for a modern example. Then there's 90s Hardcore like Madball and Integrity.
Madball and CK arent Hardcore Punk, theyre hardcore. Hardcore Punk is stuff like Bad Brains, GBH, Minor Threat, Exploited. Hardcore is Madball, Agnostic Front, Cro Mags, Bane etc etc
I've been searching for that Pennywise song for many years since i heard it somewhere. Huge thanks for including that song in this video!
No problem glad ya found it! 🤜🤛

If you wanted a ska example, Rancid is solid too. They're pretty epic
[Ok, if you watched similar videos, probably saw my commentary, but I will do it again]
Tip: did you know that Brazil created a subgenre of Punk? It's named "forrócore" (forró: music genre that includes some brazilian northeast folk music, such as Baião, Xote, Xaxado, Frevo, Coco, etc.; -core is from Hardcore).
The band who created it is named "Raimundos" (its name was the way they could honor Ramones, one of their big influences. Its sound picked the forró influence from an artist named Zenilton, who are an artist from a specific subgenre of forró named "Forró de Duplo Sentido" (Double Entendere Forró).
Some other forrócore bands: Catapulta, Jumentaparida, Cabeça Chata, Saga HC and Farofa de Porco.
Some songs to start: Marujo (Raimundos), Nêga Jurema (Raimundos), Jumento Celestino (Mamonas Assassinas), Êxodo (Jumentaparida), Jorge Cabeleira's version of Carolina (try to listen the original version, by Luiz Gonzaga, it's good too.)
Some forró artists for who is interested on it: Forro in the Dark, Luiz Gonzaga, Jackson do Pandeiro
Punk is love, Punk is Life 🤘
FUCK AUTHORITY
Shrek is love, Shrek is life 🧅
Punk ain't dead , punk is dad ...🤘
ye
Punk rock is a art form it's an expression it's expression of angst and depression but it's an amazing release to listen to that music you're in a good mood or a bad mood it makes me remember when I want to Warped Tour as a teenager or a man in my twenties
Lit
dropkick murphys gotta be one of the most unique, got some bangers
Rise Against is an example of Melodic Hardcore, not Hardcore Punk
A Day to Remember is an example of Easycore, not Post-Hardcore
MCR is an example of Emo-Pop, not solely "Emo"
without a doubt also crust punk would be more like a band like SH!T . Wolfbrigade sounds pretty emo fry scream to me and greenday pop punk their fans just need to admit it all ready
also theres no mention of midwest emo and or post punk/egg punk bands like The Garden and The Defekts
@@IsaacVanRalstonWolfbrigade is crust punk/black metal, he just didn't do the vocals properly for Warsaw Speedwolf
@@IsaacVanRalston I have literally never heard anyone deny that Green Day is pop punk
@@wezzuh2482 billie joe tries to deny it so die hards deny it too
rise against is not hardcore💀
Their first album is
Their first album was melodic hardcore, but their sound got progressively more radio friendly after that, reaching more into that pop punk zone and settling somewhere in between.
Calling rise against hardcore is like calling mgk a punk. You just don’t do it
You not heard any of their old stuff then?
theyre more melodic hardcore than anything like @@matthewdennis1739 said
I think Buzzcocks is pretty underrated and they made the pop punk style
I call Dropkick Murphy’s blarney punk.
Folk punk
Japanese punkrock is great too, such as dustbox, northern19, hi-standard, etc.
Nah they sound like anime sht
@@GREG_Khar-NÜ-Metalhead2000 yes that's Japan
G.I.S.M, The Stalin, Gloom
@@mandragoraaaaaaGISM is the real winner here. Saveki had some grasp on Japan punk.
Hi bro. Offspring and Bad Religion, classics
The best skate punk band is NO PRESSURE
thank u sm for the recommendation i love them!!
Nah Propagandhi and lagwagon man that’s the shit
Cool video, love all these songs. Thanks
I recommend you listen to Mutantex from Medellin Colombia. another style of punk
There is not a punk video without The Clash its not possible
man this was rad!!! love the mix & you really nailed the different styles. i gotta listen to pennywise more
Pennywise is solid AF !
Thanks so much man! Appreciate the kind words. I too could use some more Pennywise in my life
I know you had to keep it short and to the point, but I wish you could've played " sick boy " from G.B.H. That's one of my all time favorites. But thank you for playing " God save the queen " from the sex pistols, another of one of my all time favorites.
Woah that Wolfbrigade cover!!! Impressive, finally crust without it sounding like it was recorded with a cabbage XD 🤘
I probably woulda picked black flag ot suicidal tendencies for hardcore but cool video
1:41 best transition ever
thx for easier Hybrid Moments timestamp bro
There is NO way you just did blink like that.
EUGHHH OR GREEN DAY
what's wrong?
dude you should have put some black eyeliner on that face for the mcr part
With your vocals and playing style, I like all the genres, feels like you let the songs sound more melodic
Damn, really clean production quality I'm jealous.
Have you made any vids about it?
Could you tell me which plugin you are using for the bass? I love your videos and I want to recreate the punk sound :)
not going to lie, not a huge punk fan (apart from my favourite band of all time being blink-182), but you definitely made this video fun! absolutely loved it
Awesome! Glad ya enjoyed it :)
crazy how most people wouldn't guess that emo came from the DC hardcore punl scene
people these days dont even know the difference between punk and emo, tiktok and instagram ruined everything
punk and emo nowdays are just terms used to sell your only fans or to pose on tiktok
@@MandyCandy13 people who uses tiktok and instagram tryin not to say goth everytime when they see an black outfit 😳😳😳😳
that is not hardcore punk.
We’ll get to that in a later moment where we mosh to either the most business man looking guitar player or a Knocked Loose song
Is punk rock
Behave. Punk is whatever you want it to be it's about rebelling and not fitting set standards, yet that's what you're trying to do. Put people in boxes 😂
Yes it is it's just not tough guy hardcore
@@archangelsean wouldn’t say that’s exactly what all punk is model of but pretty much
I am missing in this list the 80's hardcore punt (black flag), the proto punk (Stooges) and the british punk pop of late 70's (Buzzcocks)
Checkout suicidal tendencies and the singer had a side project called infectious grooves
Suicidal tendencies are a great band
Aside from the original "punk rock", most of these just sound like pop punk to me, except for crust punk, which sounds more like metal
Ska punk is pop punk with a brass section
Celtic punk is pop punk with, like, mandolins and bagpipes I guess?
That's not a bad thing though, these all sound great!
Crust punk/grindcore influenced lots of metal though
Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein's guitar hero/idol was Johnny Ramone. He plays with all downstrokes too. Ya gotta do all downstrokes for Misfits and Ramones songs.
i would put something stronger on hardcore punk, maybe minor thread?
except that it's amazing
Thanks for letting me remember ADTR. R.I.P. Kitty0706
Helena is the best MCR song! Great vid btw!
You’re insanely talented dude! Keep up the good work.
I replied to your attached comment with a similar comment, but anyways, MCR are not Emo. They are in a media sense at least, but the band, the actual emocore/midwest emo community, and the fans don’t think they are. They’re alt rock
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words and the feedback :)
I luv the clash
Punk my favorite
U forgot bands like The Offspring, Nofx, Rancid, Lagwagon, Clash, Mxpx, Bad Religion, No Pressure, Vandals but add MCR??
Rise Against kicked in and I expect the gruff vocals, didn't get them, but I appreciated the good singing.
I came to the conclusion, good punk singer but can't scream and that's okay. Then your next example kicked in 😂
Good work dude!
Haha thanks now that I’m thinking about it I could have probably used a more aggressive voice on Give It All. But it’s a hard one to sing!
@DanielSwisherMusic old school Tim was in a league of his own. You did great, brother 🤟
Great singing. I think you captured all the styles very well! May I ask what your signal chain is and what gear you use? Youve got some good tone there :)
Очень крутая подборка и монтаж, подолжай а том же духе! Крутой формат!
pretty please do a video with lagwagon in it!!! i need that so bad lol
Spent this entire video waiting for folk punk keeping my fingers crossed that Frank Turner would feature
I wouldn't have used Rise Against for hardcore punk, they're definitely melodic hardcore and Tim has too clean of vocals. Still though, killed it on those vocals!
I was raised on Punk thanX to my sister who was into Sex Pistols, Nina Hagen, Talking Heads, in the 1980's and then I followed with Green Day and many more through the 1990's and I still listen in on the modern stuff when I get a chance. Interesting to know they made definitions to each of the styles. Back in the day everything was just termed as "punk".
You saved me some trouble I was about to go down this rabbit hole of punk rock and peice it all together
This is going to be suoer pedantic but i think a day ti remember is more easycore than post hardcore, Silverstein is an example of post hardcore. Both are amazing bands you need to hear before you die. If you listen to either listen to their early/middle discography
Ok for any commenters reading this, since ska punk was included let me let you know about the French ska punk scene in the 80s. It. Was. Fucking. INSANE. Ludwig von 88, early Mano Negra, etc etc. and then all the dudes in those bands became acclaimed reggae artists in the 90s (Manu chao, sergent Garcia), which is how I discovered that mindfuck of a scene in the first place
Recomendo ouvir cólera de punk rock brasileiro
Wolfbrigade still my fav
Nice ! I would like plus songs ...I love punk rock ...i listen blink 182, green day, sum 41, mest, my chemical romance, green day and new faund glory ...
im from Vietnam and i wanna learn and play punk, but i dont know how to begin
Just play, find what sounds good. That’d be the most punk thing you could do.
This is the best UA-cam video ever created 🖤
solid including good punk like wolfbrigade
He has a black short sleeve collared shirt with a red tie
I've heard most of these bands, you do great! My favorite band is no use for a name
ah, rise aginst? that was cool ;)
(i love FlatOut)
I loved that T.M.M.B. was remembered, they are one of my most loved bands, i feel bad that the band was end.
Missed Sum41's metal punk
Can someone please explytge difference between hardcore and crust punk/d beat to me? The biggest difference i notice is crust punk almost never has breakdowns
Rise against hardcore punk HAHAHAHHAHA BEST JOKE
Give it all is a hardcore song 🤷
@@GabePerson for real
@@GabePerson no but stained glass and marble and state of the union are for sure
First two albums listen to them and comeback
What type of punk is The Jam? Interested as they seem to fit many of these genres
I thought that ADTR was easy-core
Hardcore punk: GBH, Exploited, Casualties etc.
Great video love the transitions. Rip to folk punk not making it in the list though
How about Kankakee Hardcore????
can u release covers of god save the queen hybrid moments and fuck authority on spotify pls dont like the originals but urs are nice
I think it would be nice if you try some different tones for each genre. Like, you´re playing very well but it all sounds too similar. Nice video tho.
Also good subgenres: hardcore punk (e.g. Black Flag), crossover thrash (e.g. Suicidal tendencies, the Exploited), Oi! (Scham 69)
Dude you can sing perfectly fine, no need for the autotune
You have a good voice man! Keep it up, love these videos
what about post punk?
Bro playing bass on the couch 😎
next time, do D-beat, Raw and post punk! Nice video!
I like the vids but do agree that rise against is not a good example of hardcore and that a day to remember is easycore in that song not post hardcore. I also think you could’ve chosen a better song to represent skate punk
What about bands like discharge and dystopia
Do the casualties
Thank you!

Holiday in Cambodia by dead kennedys: surf punk
The song has country/rockabilly vibes, does n't it?
What group does like fidar or teen mortgage fit in?
How about NYHC? However, that sound never really appealed to me. Feel free to suggest me a song to make me think otherwise.
where is post punk?
i was waiting for it too
the whole point of post punk was to do something different than punk, but still subversive. It's a massive genre in and of itself and I wouldn't put it under the punk umbrella
Ramones are missing.
