Thanks for watching - please subscribe!
cutting straight from 1995 to 2019 is leaving out a whole lot of good stuff
garage revival, post hardcore, post punk revival, not to mention that pop punk also has a pretty interesting evolution as a subgenre
ska punk was a pretty prominent exclusion even if you dont like it it was big
@@heather2503 it was absolutely massive and definitely had some notable basslines
@@seralouise. also fugazi is post hardcore he just mislabeled it
@@heather2503 mm true true. it also has its own little evolution
The Dead Kennedys had some really great basslines
I'll in the Head, an icon bassline of punk
@@dmacowski yes
Klaus Flouride appreciation thread
No shit. Also Minutemen, Descendents, RKL, Operation Ivy, Lagwagon, Less Than Jake.
It's like this list was made by Rolling Stone.
Klaus is a beast, that riff on MTV Get Off the Air is one of the best
Taking a break from asking for Matt Freeman's behs tone to tell you how an amazing bass player you are. You really understand and play the punk sound so well. Keep 'em coming Danny!
Behsed
Love that u included Amyl & the newest Hives hit. I heard Bogus Operandi live in Cologne, Germany. The Hives opened up their set with it & they set us on fire, no warm up songs or anything, instant pogo & sing alongs to the new song from the whole crowd, it was a 0 to 60 within just seconds 🎉
Hit me
I wouldn't call Fugazi post punk (you should've put Joy Division there), but the video is still awesome!
he probably meant post hardcore
Yeah, not to nitpick or nothing but for accuracy's sake, I think fugazi is more hardcore/post hardcore and PIL is more post punk than new wave. New wave is more like blondie and post punk is more joy division and gang of four
Post Hardcore
Also not to nitpick, but I think that Fugazi record came out in '88.
So glad you mentioned The Hives, they're awesome.
When Wilko Johnson was a kid, he practiced playing the guitar in a narrow hallway.
Aaaaaahahaha! John B. Sparks lived in the attached identical duplex next door.
Believe it or not, Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses is kind of a punk inspired bassist! Speaking of, day 33 of asking for Duff McKagan's behs tone!
When a conversation about influences comes up, I usually say, Geddy Lee, Cliff Burton, and Duff McKagan. A lot of people think I'm joking about Duff, like he isn't a good bass player, I guess.
But, when I first started playing bass Appetite For Destruction was really big and I learned every song from it. As a new bass player, I really like the way he would throw in those little fills between key changes. They were cool, but not blazing fast so that I couldn't play it and get discouraged and just give up.
That was a long time ago, but. You can definitely hear his influence in my playing. It's pretty obvious, so I'm not gonna lie about it.
We need it his chorus tone is amazing!
Duff is amazing on the low end his bass fills are definitely my favourite bass fills out of any bassist he's not bad at singing either saw him in Glasgow with GnR this year
@@scottbubb2946 He's not super complicated, or an insane player by any means, but his sound is really unique!
He was actually in a punk band before GNR called The Fartz... no joke!
I really appreciate the once in a while video that aint a short. You're making a guitarist want to buy a bass every day
Do it. Playing bass is a whole new challenge, but it’s fun bc you’ll be able to play simple stuff right away.
Loved the Wilko impression.
Great list! Yet, I feel a lot happened between 1994 and 2019: Skate punk like NOFX, poppier (TRL) pop-punk like Blink-182, New Found Glory and Sum 41. Hardcore punk revival with bands like Turnstile and Knocked Loose. But love the playing and a great tone. 👍
I was thinking the same thing, i would even throw out some alkaline trio for some bahs
A lot also happened between 1982 & 89 - 7 years totally ignored in the video. Along with several of the great punk bass players not mentioned at all. Klaus Flouride & Phil Bryant to name two.
I love that you played the stiff little fingers! Gotta Getaway is one of my favorite jams! It's the song that initially inspired me to play bass.
Danny. Only came across your stuff a few weeks ago on little 30 second clips but have stumbled on here. I'm a drummer but love watching you. It's your enthusiasm that grabs me but, most of all, it's your accent. It's absolutely brilliant. I'm guessing Bradford area. You're such a cheery guy.
This is such a nice video. Punk is and always will be very special to me and seeing this nice trip through the memory lane of different bands throughout the years makes me hopeful for the future of it. The enegry and passion displayed by the musicians was what made em wann play bass and try and create music. Thanks a LOT!
epic to see you play an amyl song
One of my favourite bands
Yah so happy The Hives made your punk list. Love ya channel. 😊
Once again, Death is forgotten
You've got great taste. I was surprised to hear two of my favourite songs ("Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" and "Bogus Operandi") in this video
Small correction: Fugazi was Post-Hardcore. Post-Punk arrived *way* sooner with the likes of Bauhaus, Siouxsie Sioux, and the big one: Joy Division.
As for Hardcore punk, I would picked the intro for Six Pack by Black Flag or California Uber Alles by the Dead Kenedys (or Winnebego Warrior).
Amazing bass showcase ❤
My dude just skipped 25 years like it didn’t exist.
YEAH 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Now I got to see ya play😮.... Thnx you are awesome...
Danny your playing is very good and your timing is great love your stuff keep at it
I really appreciate the fact that this videos is two minutes long.
Awesome to see you playing a PiL line, Jah Wobble is a legend!
And that's why you gotta do a tone video on Jah Wobble 😤
Great work. 🤘
I enjoyed that!………………cheers Danny 🎯⭐️
Love your energy!!!
Random question from a year old video of yours,
Slide playing electric hollow body bass video of yours is awesome!
I couldn't help but notice the drums in that video too
Real drummer???
Very fun video!
That rites of spring joke was pretty funny
Day 10 of asking for Tom arayas bass tone
Thanks for examining this part of Rock Bass history! 🙂😎👽
ayyyy! glad to see bad nerves getting mentioned!
Thank you so much for Bogus Operandi! The Hives kick so much ass!
Really happy to see Fugazi in one of your videos!
Im 54 and for some reason the Fugazi waiting room was my fav in this very cool set
No Stranglers? JJ Burnell had superb bass tone on those early albums.
Great vid! Are all of these tones coming straight outta the tone hammer? Any pedals? Thanks!
Aussie revolution is such a treat
Evolution of Phil Lynott
Nice video! Although maybe you could included any Minutemen bass line.
I was hoping for some I d l e s love here, give it a couple more years then.
BAD NERVES MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Saw them open for creeper, they were genuinely better than them live, such a good band
Day 5 of asking for Stuart Zender’s bass tone
This is good Behs.
Bad Brains and Darryl Jenifer always overlooked
you can't ignore punk, got Spanish Bombs in there, thank you Danny
*YES*
Nigel Bamford out of Discharge please.
Actual punk rock 😜
What a beautiful rick that is!!!
No Rancid?!!!!! Matt Freeman is a monster on bass brother
I'm on smoko
Spanish Bombs is a top song
Great video, up the punk influenced bassists
Fugazi over any of Peter Hook's lines for post punk is crazy.
there's no modern punk without the chats
sad you left them out this one :(
7 Seconds - Young till I die (1984) has a really good bass
Great choices! Forgot skate and folk though.
Great job dude, next time maybe also some Rancid tunes
Was sure you'd play thebass intro to Six Pack
How can someone make a video on punk bass & not include Klaus Flouride?! Or Phil Bryant?! & so many other better & even well known punk bassists totally ignored.
Love the Sterkowski hat
There was no punk for 25 years, 94-19, nice, nice.
Bad Nerves yeaaaah!!
Finally someone mentioning bad nerves
🔥

STIFF!! LITTLE!! FINGERS!!
Day 8 of asking for John Paul Jones Behs Tone.
BAD NERVES MENTIONED RAHHH
Day 7 of asking for Flea’s Behs tone.
(My chance to redeem myself)
So mant to choose from from 'Waiting Room' by Fugazi had me subscribing. What a fckin choon!
Did I miss the Dead Kennedys? Where was the best punk bass of all time?
Day 11 of asking for fat mikes behs tone
Day 41 asking for David Hungate's behs tone.
Fun list! Though, I think some woulda put the "It Begins" w/ The Ramones. Day #55 of asking for Necrobutcher's tone, Cheers!
Need a full cover of train keep a rolling
Igor Stravinsky is punk? 🤔
Cool! 🎸🤘
Year 7 of asking for Danny Partridge’s behs tone
Tutti brani fantastici 😍
Skate punk: Pennywise- Bro Hymn would've been a nice inclusion
can you now do a video on punk behs?
I do have a Corvette just like that in the corner...
Skipped right by Bad Brains. For hardcore (and hard reggae) bass, that's unforgivable. But you got PiL's 1st (Wobble - most people would have missed this one in a roundup, but a lot of players apparently listened this record to death) and then core Clash back to back, among other classics, so you still get plenty of love.
It just shows the video should have been longer - but then I would have had to put off watching until later. So you get the like now.
Interesting !
Hey Danny ..
Just for fun please listen to the Black Dots album from BAD BRAINS .
I'm thinking you might enjoy it .
And thank you for all your hard work !!!
Excuse me? And where were the Stranglers? You missed out J J Burnell's 'Kick the doors down' bass playing
My friends aren’t as interested in starting a band as I am. I’ve sent this to them.
Day 35 of asking for donald 'duck' dunns bass tone
I only watched because it said "1913" I sort of imagined some tweed suited Sid Vicious, but Stravinsky makes sense.
Thank god you played Misfits
Small correction, Misfits is Punk Rock
i thought Streetlight Manifesto would be here for some reason.
maybe it was just for time but i think skipping of the 00s punk scene is a little awkward right? like the late 90s and 00s onwards was such a golden time for punk, especially out of the more mainstream - that's when you start getting into the emo and (some) math-rock! feel like a follow up may be needed, maybe focusing on that?
SugarpillCovers is a great channel that does stuff like that already (i would say I've learnt the most about tone from him and danny sapko's channel when it comes to the sound i prefer tbh)
I notice I haven’t see you touch on the VERY UNDERRATED Bruce Foxton from the Jam!!!!!
Damn right punk's not dead
I'm really craving some Totino's™ Pizza Rolls now!
SOOOO Happy about the inclusion of Dr Feelgood :D
Love the vid but i woulda added blink-182 after greenday, greenday was known first but blink-182 changed the scene.
Needed Buzzcocks somewhere
Fugazi are not Post-Punk, they're Post-Hardcore. Big difference. Post-Punk is stuff like Joy Division and The Chameleons.
My man!!!! (Up the punx!) Although I gotta say - A Matt Freeman riff would have fit nicely in this medley, as well...Just sayin hahaha!!! 😁🤘💚
Adivino, te dió miedo poner a Rancid ahí
