The DECEPTIVE Nature of MAJORA (Zelda Theory)

- In today's theory, we take a deeper look into the character of Skull Kid and how he was used as a pawn for a greater, much darker scheme...
It goes without saying that the Skull Kid was a victim in this story, but today we find the answer to why he put on the mask as well as how it was able to easily control him.

WE ARE FINALLY BACK! Sorry for the delay, but now we can start branching out to Zelda videos in general. Thanks for watching, and subscribe if you want to see more :)
1 like = 1 extra friend for Skull Kid

Hey NBC if link has the ocarina of time
Wont he just time travel back to stop skull kid from stealing the mask
I know this isn't much of an idea, but I was thinking maybe you could do a video of what zelda's and links future will be like. Congratulations you have so many subscribers, as for me my theories are hated by all.
Sorry I also wanted to say that in breath of the wild
Skullkid has 76 new friends when I said this
NintendoBlackCrisis I like your intro
This theory holds up really well! Majoras Mask definitely had a lot of incredible supporting details - and you managed to tie them together excellently!! Great job!! :)
Hi Croton
I love how supportive the zelda channels are of each other
I want a fierce Deity spinoff so badly. Seriously my favourite "Link" design.
What if Link was also a god before he shed his godly form to better protect the people by living among them? Fierce Deity was his godly form before this fall.
@@SuperMagicUnderwear maybe. I never really associated Termina with Hyrule though.
Too bad they ruined Link’s Feirce Deity skin in SSBU
@@Jewgoo how so? It looks great to me.
It doesn’t look nearly as good as the one in the Wii U/3DS Version
majora's mask is a pretty dark game and that theory makes it even darker.
I love it
This was a theory? I genuinely thought this was canon.
Whos canon?
@@johnnytacosauce the brother of Ganon
@Luis Quinones while all of that is true, think of it from the perspective of a childlike mind. From a childlike perspective it's still hard to lose old friends even for a good reason. And new friends can't replace old friends.
The imp is not the skull kid majora is the imp... its pretty obvious that it happened way to long before skullkid was even around so no keep believing stuff thats not true and be left in the dark 🤷♂️ just like everyone in termina ARE ALREADY DEAD sealed in the fierce deity mask link only re lives the tale to escape it..
@@NewLifeFromTheWayofTruth - lol, you're trying to bash a theory by sharing an even less supported one...
Thank you for pointing out that skull kid meant Saria when he was talking about "the kid who taught me that song in the woods" so many people get that wrong. I'm glad to see someone thinking for once and getting that right! Great video 👍
Why use a random Skull kid though? Why not the one Link taught a song to?
@@GODOFAWSOMENESS1 Because said Skull kid gave a piece of heart when he recognized you playing Sarias song. He knew from Saria, and determiend Link to be a friend of hers.
Robert Kovarna we are talking about the first Skull kid you meet right? The same skull kid in Majora’s mask and twilight princess. Not a random one but the one we really know.
@@GODOFAWSOMENESS1 If by first, you mean take the first left in the lost woods, and you play Sarias song to get a heart piece from, then yep. That is the one.
Saria probably sensed his loneliness and tried to befriend him, or at least make him less lonely. After all, Saria’s Song allows you to speak with her at any time.
Majora mask is and will be my most favorite villain in all of zelda

It's amazing how many folks break this game down, but never bother to get into the meat of what really drives the story of Majora's Mask. They get into how it fits into the overall Legend of Zelda lore, but never for its own sake. Love that you had the thought to actually break this down
I have somthing to add to this theory. Some more evidence. In breath of the wild when you put majora's mask on enemies don't attack you, they think you are one of them. A friend.
Carter Briggs actually, it says that it makes you harder to detect and I’ve had enemies see me, come up to me, then look around for me when I’m 3 feet in front of them, so they don’t know I’m there, and because of this I think that it actually has some form of extremely powerful cloaking magic, and that it is from an amount of magic that either never left, or was put into the mask by some deity or powerful creature.
@@nathangelaude4787 it also works as a duisguise. You can be noticed, but they won't attack.
@@nootdreamnoot1684 exactly
Carter Briggs elaborate on that because so what if thy dog attack you they might think you are majora.
And anyway same thing with the bokogoblin mask and along with the other masks
Wow great video I love how your slowly doing other theory’s that’s not BOTW like links awakening and now majoras mask keep up the great work
Yes! And Skyward Sword should be the next game I talk about :]
Could you imagine seeing an epic battle with calamity ganon and the Giants, or corrupted giants vs the divine beasts. Maybe we'll see something like that if they ever bring termina back
I Love Majora mask, thank you for doing a theory on it
I always saw Majora's Mask as some variation of the one ring from the Lord of the Rings which also calls for weak souls to use its powers.
Man you are so right in an eeire way of saying things.
Except that it's power scales with whoever has it. I heard that's why going to the eagles, or giving it to gandalf, was a bad idea
As opposed to weekend souls
I mean......True. OOT/MM Link does have the soul of a hero and he's strong, but....He kinda is a little "hurt". I've seen theories about OOT/MM Link have regrets. I forgot what the regrets specifically were but I think it has to do something with Zelda sending Link back to his original time, leading to no one knowing what he went through (In the child timeline) as the Hero of Time.....Which then leads to The Hero's Shade teaching the next Link new abilities, putting his regrets to an end. I don't know why but I just thought I would mention this.
You're 100% correct! I could definitely see Majora bribing Link with something along the lines of "I could make them all remember..." or something like that.
I think the major(a!) difference, though, is that Skull Kid was genuinely sad; it's a lot easier to take control of someone who's already in a weakened state. Link might have those regrets, but I don't think that would be enough to weaken him, if for only a short time.
Link's good nature would help him fight through any attempts from Majora to corrupt him. While Hero of Time Link eventually died with regrets, he still had a habit of putting the needs of others before his own, which is why he stayed in Termina, until he could save it from Majora, before he resumed his quest to find Navi.
He had regrets but he still had a good heart
Majora's Mask has my favorite Zelda story of all time. I love it so much and I look forward to seeing more Majora's Mask theories in the future.
WOW!!!! THE INTRO IS AMAZING
You can thank one of my discord moderators for that!
@@NintendoBlackCrisis Yeah They Have Done An Awesome Job.

Man, I wanted you to say "And that..is truly...a terrible fate."
That would've been SO good!
Remake the video!
Would've been lame. He's not the type.
So Majora and skull kid are basically an abusive relationship
Wha
Like Mother Gothel and Rapunzel from Tangled? I can see some similarities. At least Rapunzel had a strong enough will to fight back when it came down to it, especially when she finally learned the truth and had Flynn Ryder's love. If only Skull Kid had some ability to fight back..
the majora's mask looks the coolest.
it's all the reason's you need.
@Katie Lewis exactly! all the other masks look like a cheap toy compared to majora.
Awesome Majora theory 😨. Keep up the great work!
Are there going to be more streams?
They'll continue, but go back to 2 a week hopefully!
HOKay
I'm addicted to your videos! Keep up the good work!😀
Holy crap, that is a huge eye opener
Wooo amazing video. It’s nice to start seeing theories from other Zelda games. Good job
Excellent job, the effort put into this definitely shows. Looking forward to the next one, whenever it may be.
I’m very glad that your branching out to other Zelda content! It’s been fun watching your streams!😄
The real one or metaphor?
Both
Awesome! I love Majora's Mask, and this video clearly did it today, thank you!
This whole thing with Majora preying on skull kid when he feels alone and sad is kinda a metaphor for mental illness
not trying to rain on your parade, but that's like...a metaphor that can be applied to literally anything
@@popsicIes It makes me think of ordinary people who exploit others when they have the chance. Like insulting someone, knowing they will get away with it no matter what, or using someone they just met. Doesn't even have to be known by the "victim" either. It's the mask a lot of people put on to get what they want.
Other people put on other masks, but it's not to deceive anyone. It's to keep overwhelming emotions from spilling out at the wrong time. We autistic people have to do that, because otherwise, we would drown other people with our own feelings. We feel that much.
Masks.. both literal and metaphorical ones sure are interesting..
@@popsicIes agreed
Very vague
Congratulations on 100k, every UA-camrs first milestone
Thanks from the heart, I love your content
I love how you used the Super Paper Mario “memory” theme for the backstory part. I love the soundtrack from Super Paper Mario. Well done!
That heart-shaped mask feeds off of heartbreak :o
Ahhhhhhh the nightmares this game gave me as a 10 yr old. Good time, good times.
Great video! Majora's Mask is absolutely one of my favourites, too
Fantastic theory NBC. I love that you’re starting to branch out to do videos on other Zelda games. Can’t wait to see what else you produce.
Great research with direct references in game to your theories. Well made video.
'They betrayed you, left you. We can play a trick on all of them!'
Great video man! 😊
awesome as usual! i really need to play this game.... i've had it for years 😶
I definitely sense a series of Majora's Mask theories coming. Looking forward to them.
DANGGGGGG THAT INTRO
THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO GOOD JOB
Wow. This fits really well. Good Job!
Omfg this was great. The detail and how you tied it together WITH supporting evidence. The way you started the video and the end “You’ve met with a terrible fate, haven’t you”
Your theories are always pretty solid, so I'm excited to see you tackling one of the more theory intensive games in the series! I'd like to direct you to a certain theory:
The Stone Tower Temple was built as heresy to the gods to attempt to invade Heaven. This theory has many, many, MANY layers and is kind of complicated to work through. However, it was always a favorite of mine and one I consider to be very likely to be real (At least, some of it - there are parts I don't agree with due to them clearly going way further than Nintendo would intend)
idk how to put this into words, but the way you narrate your videos never fails to feel compelling both on an intellectual and emotional(?) level. you're persuasive, but not demanding us to take your side. i really enjoy that element about you as a content creator, and look forward to more videos -- even if you decide to veer from zelda and games entirely one day :)
Majora's Mask is one of my favourite Zeldas, nice to see you doing a theory on it!
Thanks! Definitely plan on doing more for this game :]
I'll be looking forward to it then!
It can be said that the Lost Woods is of continental size, since Termina and Hyrule are so far apart both are seemingly unaware of each other's existence.
Nice intro man!
WAIT A MINUTE! THAT'S NO BREATH OF THE WILD! LOL Jk.
Good theory! Al tho a better question... Who and what IS Fierce Deity? I DEMAND ORIGINS!
It explains in the manga. Fierce diety is the one who killed majora and carved her skin into a mask when majora was causeing mischief in Clock Town
Ooooh, NBC liked it, get ready for another future Majora's Mask theory...
*all
Something Sketchy That's non-canon, and I'm pretty sure the identity of the traveler was never revealed.
@@christianweber7435 Nobody Killed the beast, it died after dancing for three days. Majora's Mask was carved out of its armor not its skin. And also, fierce deity wasn't the person who did the carving.
Ah yes, my childhood. Thank you for covering such an amazing game.
Skull Kid/Majora was always one of my favorite characters.
I really like Majora's Mask, getting to see your actions actually help people (even if it does reset after the 3 days) really helped you feel they werent just NPCs but actual characters and that Link is also a personal hero.
The addition of the Super Paper Mario music just made this video amazing and I’m not even done watching
Woah neat intro!
After missing half of them, I went back and watched all of the streams that happened covering WW and MC
Great video, I love majora's mask, I hope you'll do a theory about termina, because it is debated what kind of world it is, and I would like to know what you think about it!
Awesome video! Im looking forward to more Zelda Theory that's not just Breath of the Wild.
🦐don't ask me why
🦐SHRIMP🦐
Yay we're back to the great theories. But I did like the streams.
Doesn't necessarily have to be either or.
Who TF said MM was the inferior version?
Awesome video! Love breakdowns like these.
Super interesting. I haven't gotten the all night mask since high school so I forgot all that grandma exposition. Now I feel bad for
Skull Kid
Crazy theory: Majora's Mask never happened. It's all a fever dream brought on by the lost woods which is why the victims never leave.
He says "you know Saria's Song!". This doesn't mean he actually knows it, just that he remembers Saria playing it. It could be that Link himself teaches him to him fully.
Great video! I've wondered if the Imp was actually the individual who became the mask. Like the Imp might have refused the order of the giants to leave and they turned him into a mask that was later sealed inside Stone Tower Temple by an ancient tribe that it ruined, but the skull kid with his own feelings of abandonment became drawn to it. Basically the Imp was someone else but the Skull kid sort of became him completely while also being someone else. Kind of a paradox but the hero of time's journey seems to be just that. The game's obscurity makes it so incredible. The fun thing about Mask though is every theory anyone comes up with pretty much has some kind of hole.
5:15 Brought a tear to my eye..... :')
Sarias song is also played during the lost woods section in twilight princess where you are chasing the skull kid
I like how this was a direct sequel to oot an element rarely used in zelda
10:50 Majora's evolution is Majora's mask, Majora's incarnation and Majora's wrath.
I remember from the Legend of Zelda Manga for Majora's mask that at the end there's this scene where a figure resembling the Hero lulling this weird dragon beast to sleep and carving the mask out of its body.
Theory: Skull Kid and Majora are the same person, in the same way as Ganondorf and Demise. When the imp went to the heavens, what it actually did was throw away it's malevolent will, which was sent to the moon and the mask was the path for it to come back.
Or maybe the Happy Mask Salesman and Majora head that relationship, considering how alien he is, how the Moon Children have his face underneath their masks, and how there are a lot of parallels between him and Ganondorf (red hair, plays the piano/organ, knows at least one medic spell, is familiar with the secret magical artifacts of the Hyrulian Royal Family, manipulates Link into doing his dirty work for him, has access to Sheikah magic, has a Gerudo Mask, is able to freely traverse the Lost Woods, and has/is seeking powerful sealed monster/artifacts).
Makes sense, well done again ~nya
I'm a simple person. I see Majora, I click.
Hey, i came from notification!
You mean they actually worked for once? Thanks UA-cam! 😂
Mine always work. I think.....(starts checking for missed uploads)
İyi kardeşim de bize ne
Great theory and a beautiful ending.
An old theory, but a small tidbit further strengthens it. In the story, it talks about how the Giants can be summoned by shouting something like "the blizzard has trapped us" or "the ocean is going to swallow us". What happens in those related areas? There's a blizzard trapping the gorons, and the ocean is so turbulent from the storm that no one can go out in boats or swim too far out
Another thing that I believe to be a proof that the entrance to Termina is in the Lost Wood is the legend that anyone who isn't a Kokiri who ventures in the Lost Wood will disappear. What if they have not disappeared but fallen to Termina. Terminians might just be the descendants of these people who disappeared who forgot about Hyrule over time. It would also explain why Kokiri are the only Hyrulian species not to exist in Termina.
Termina was created by majora as a illusionary realm. Majora has a aility to create tentacles and manipulate minds. When skull kid found the salesman asleep, he searched he's bag, he picked up majoras mask and the burned yellow in its eyes and wrapped it's self around skull kid
Nice video
CHUGGAACOROY! That’s super cool reference! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
OMG! A Chuggaaconroy reference. Been a while since I heard one.
mentioning my favourite youtuber is always an a plus episode
That hit me right in the feels
1:35 Link's fairy guide Navi left Link because of 2 theories, 1st theory is that Navi discovered that Link is hylian, not a Kokiri. 2nd theory is that they fell in love but they shouldn't as fairy with hylian.
There's also a 3rd theory as well. That Navi was going to die, but she didn't want Link to see her death.
Wow...I'd completely forgotten Chuggaa had even said that. I had to dip to that video to see.
Love your videos and I hundred percented this game it was the
Good but every time I try to play it again something bad always happens when I reach goron village
This was interesting. I liked the part about him bringing the moon down so his friends would come back and save him :)
It's also curious that he caused the events that the Giants used as examples xP
One thing, though:
Hyrule = heaven... Are you confirming the theory of Termina being the purgatory?:P
reads the thumbnail in recommended
thinks: 'dude, that skullkid has feelings...'
During the amazing fan made trailer for Majora’s Mask, I forget they’re names, but the happy mask’s salesman is sitting by a campfire he made and is staring at Majora’s mask and reaches out to it but suddenly pulls away and passes out. This reminds me of Lord of the Rings with Frodo being tempted by the ring. When the skull kid picks up the mask he looks like he can sense some sort of evil in the mask but Majora’s temptation is too much for him and puts it on. You can see the rope like strands take over his head and forcing it to stay there on his face. During which the skull kid screams and writhes in pain until Majora has control. The part of him screaming as he puts the mask on reminds me of when link puts on either the Deku mask, Zora mask, or Goron mask.
It's a short film
I KNEWWW the first soundtrack that was gonna be used for this video was the Four Giants theme!
Majoras mask was my first zelda game too!!
Not only did I not get a notification, but this was in error for a few minutes before it finally loaded
I just want to run up to Skull Kid and give him a big hug to help him feel better
I love your video's
Can you imagine if Ganondorf got his hands on the mask before the Happy Mask Salesman, OOT would have been a *very* different game.
"Breath of the wild link is immune to majora." - me who just thought of that
@Katie Lewis it lost all it's power after being destroyed by link
@Katie Lewis i mean it was sacred and as far as we know sacred items in zelda can't be destroyed (master sword for example)
I don’t believe dlc is canon anyway
i remember when i first played this game on the n64 when i was 8 years old in 2000 i have loved this game after that.
masterpiece , so impactful
Major’s Mask is my favorite game ever
I can see that.
It’s a good game
Second for me
Hello Nintendo Black Crisis, I have a theory which I will try to make it really simple in order to win time reading ...
Games : Oot, MM, TP
Interlopers used powerfull dark magic during civil war to reach trifoce. They were sheikah rebels. Fierce diety was the most powerful dark magic used by a power full sheikah to win the civil war. Godnesses had to stop them and punish interlopers by sealing their dark magic. Without any more power and control they have been banished from hylians people and traveled to gerudo lands, defintly banished to the dark realm. Some of them stayed in hyrule hiding. The masksalesman is one of the sheikah rebel. In order to take back the powerful power of the fierce diety, he tricked Link. He (or another powerful sheikah) created majora's mask in which fierce deity power is sealed. Termina was created as a real world by a dark magic (mask salesman asked Link to retrieve his mask be fore he leaves in 72hours which is the exact same time of the moon crash). Fierce diety represent (according to eiji anouma) all the memories of people of termina meanings all people that Link helped in order to get better. But Salesmaskman always told to Link that he wanted people happier with his masks. In order to win against Majora, the only way to obtain the fierce deity mighty power was to have all masks after that majora boy appearance would take all link's masks and would give the fierce deity mask in order to play with him. If Link win the majora's "game", termina would survive to the moon. The majora's mask returned to masksalesman after majora's defeat but the next tricky part is the fierce deity mask. Masksalesman was waiting inside the clock tower until the battle ends and took back fierce deity mask to hide it and also get back majora's mask. When link awakes, Masksalesman even says just after looking to the majora's mask on his hands : "so the evil has left the mask after all...". He didn't care about majora's mask or majora's evil killing everyone in Termina, he only cares about fierce diety power which he took back because of Link.
Thank you for reading, hoping you enjoyed !
the tenticles are just so the mask doesn't fall off, the mask itself posseses the skull kid.
Oh ho? A Majora's Mask theory? How did I miss this? This is the game I was wondering if were going to make videos about. Very few ever touch on skull kid, and so this was great to watch.
There is one theory in this game I am wondering if you would be interested in making, but I would rather message you directly on this one if you were interested.
You can't hide that Super Paper Mario Memories theme from me.
