Before I say this, I want to say that I love most of NBC’s theory vids. They make excellent points. But what you just stated here is absolutely correct. And frankly, completely obliterated the point of this vid.
In Japan they have a tendency to believe percentages, and I've noticed media tend to use them very willy-nilly. Death Note, for example, has L use percentages constantly, even with things that he obviously should not be able to make a percentage out of - it's a shorthand way to make the (Japanese) viewer know that this person is supposed to be scarily, super humanly smart, in a way that your mortal brain can't comprehend. For us, however, we just end up thinking "What ass did they pull that percentage out of?!"
I feel like using the combined probability as the probability of Link succeeding is somewhat flawed. Like, not all of these probabilities failing would mean certain doom for the quest, like "there's a 90% chance Zelda headed to Eldin next" but there's not a 10% chance she disappeared, she's *somewhere*- there's, like, a .3% chance she's hiding in that bush over there Still, a great concept and a very good video

Literally, why is it that when it's Fi it's annoying but when it's C3P0 it's hilarious. I never once found Fi annoying, I found her intentionally crafted that way to state the obvious as a joke. And people lost their damn minds.
I think what's much more fascinating and even terrifying is that, if Fi's calculations were correct, then there was a chance that the Sacred Flames and even the Triforce wouldn't be in their designated locations. All of these trials were specifically engineered by gods so that Link would be the only one who could complete them and there was still a chance that somewhere out there was a being who could just come along and swipe the god damn Triforce before Link even got there, something that not even Demise was capable of doing.
That’s a very very small chance. My question is though, how much of the game was truly up to just chance, and how much was fate, destiny, or something along those lines involved
Here's the issue I have with this: not all of these percentages lead to a total failure. Percentages like if the water basin will work or not won't ruin Link's quest if they don't work out. If the basin doesn't work then he'll just have to do something else, the only thing wasted is time. There's not that big of a time crunch considering he can sleep for days and do sidequests with no consequences. I'd argue the battles are more important because if it doesn't work out, link dies and the world is lost
The formula can't be correct. Let's say every time Fi said 80%. You'd have an 80% chance to beat the game. You needed to average the percentages. Otherwise you get 80% of 80% and so on.
You ignore the fact that in any one of these it would still technically be possibly completable, Link would just have to search elsewhere. Like if it wasn't the ship but there was the ship later on, that would increase the percent by one of it's biggest deductions.
I have the theory that every timeline game in the series we played, always is the best scenario posible for Link. That's why we never saw the hero of time loosing againts Ganondorf in OoT.
Wow. This is an incredible job, well done. It’s a very unique concept for a theory and the fact that it’s based of Skyward Sword is just so much better.
I actually liked Fi and never once found her to be annoying. I was never annoyed by Navi either. So, am I strange? Or is everyone else just unreasonably irritable?
I think that the main probability to keep in mind is "is Link strong enought or not" and that Fi will never think about it, because she probably think that Link obviously is.
@@nikkolaus91 I beat it 3 times and got the Hylian shield, WITHOUT USING A SHEILD. I am a master of the Wii Motion Controls. I really wish I recorded it, but trust me. I DID IT!
Fi is my *favorite* character in Hyrule Warriors. I love the way she moves. Her graceful animations and art style are just enjoyable for me to watch. And I can see that Nintendo was going for a C-3PO like charm with all of her statistics but it was a gag that just never caught on for me. Every time she'd give some % in my mind I was eye rolling: "No, silly robot, it is **100%** likely that there's a boss behind this boss door because that's how games", "Of course it's **100%** likely that Zelda went through this door because that's why we're here". And unlike Navi/Tatl or the Hyrule Compendium I couldn't use Fi to give me info on the game world "What's that called? Where does it live and what does that eat?" and I almost never found dowsing to be necessary because I tend to explore areas pretty thoroughly on my own when eventually a character is like "We need a pinwheel" I was like "I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR, BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT WAS FOR HOURS!". Maybe it's endearing for newcomers to the series. I just feel like I'd have liked her more if she hadn't been so pretentious about the scientific precision of her otherwise reasonable statements. That said, it's awesome that you did all this work to conclude that all of her statements are meaningful, in that failure was almost certain for all but the First Hero, who was worthy of the complete Triforce! Maybe one day they'll release and update to the Hyrule Historia that explains that Fi simultaneously exists across multiple timelines and is actually predicting the probability that you're in the timeline where things work out. Really plays in well with Hylia's whole "...for I am the one guiding you from my place at the edge of time" shtick. It would be even better, though quite frustrating for most, if periodically the game just followed the negative case--1 out of every 20 playthroughs you get there and there's just no boss. In 1 in 7 encounters you get there and Zelda has already been captured and it's game over :)
Says Fi isn’t as annoying as Navi yet complains about her number one annoying trait. Navi didn’t talk as much and almost all of it was useful. Why do people still ride the hate Navi train when she is the less annoying one.
The Hero defeating impossible odds is a common fiction troupe - having actual statistics proving that Link was able to accomplish the near impossible doesn't mean Fi is dumb, but that Link is that amazing.
Wait, help me out here. Each independant probability has nothing to do with another. So. Why even multiply? What are we proving? I like where youre going with it, I want to understand. But to me its like stating that my chance of driving my car into a wall has to do with the probability of me brushing my teeth, somewhat thoroughly.
Fi : " CJ the amount of percentage of you succeeding following the damn train, is only 20% " CJ : * Walking toward the Sanchez with BigSmoke * Ah shiet, here we go again.
I actually took that percentage to mean something different, and what you said is a key thing to keep in mind. Link's chance of completing his quest is 5% or lower.. and yet he DID complete it. He overcame and conquered, and that's why he's Hylia's chosen champion.
“Wouldn’t he just die after absorbing electricity into his sword?” Uh no, not necessarily... people get struck by lightning all the time and some may die, some may not die. Getting electrocuted isn’t a sure fire way to die. But are you questioning that strain of likelihood when you’re fighting someone who has fire for hair??? Out of all things improbable, you only picked out the loft wing part and not the one about Skyloft being a floating island behind a permanent layer of clouds??? Getting struck by lightning and not dying is actually one of the more probable things in this game.
The problem with this is that you assume the alternative of any of those events fails the quest. That is not the case for a lot of these percentages. For example, if those were not really the ship's masts, you could keep looking. Fi could probably calculate another percentage of finding them elsewhere. Also, some probabilities don't even affect what happens. For example, the probabilities of zelda being in a region or not didn't matter since he didn't find her in many of them anyway
You said 'Farosh' instead of 'Faron'. just a heads up. And also the fact that the chances are so low for Link beating his quest really solidifies his position as hero. Also stop dissing Fi. She is bestgirl
I'm not sure these are all probabilities; some of them could instead be how sure Fi is that her prediction is true. For example, the sacred flame is behind the door. It just is. The reason Fi gives a percentage is because she doesn't know that the sacred flame is there.
this is not how you use Percentages. What is the percent Chance that a person Wakes up after they go to sleep every day? oh my god they should not last a year! the recorded chance of dying in your sleep is 4 percent. so 96 percent chance you will wake up find. 365 times you still end up with absurdly small numbers. If the Percentage chances are independent you cannot combine them like this. Also plenty of times it would not be the end of his journey even in the 16 you mentioned. So if zelda wasn't the one they were talking about he would still have gone and done the dungeon if told there was an 85 percent chance she was there. so even then the 15 percent chance she is not just means his search continues not that there is no way to save her. If there is a 60 percent chance this is the right ship that just means that if it is the wrong ship he gets off and looks for another ship not that we allow demise to win. these failure states are often not absolute. If the fire is not here then maybe it is somewhere else. and so on and so fourth It goes on and on. That All Said. I love the episodes and your theories. but while entertaining this really is not how percentages work. (then again FI doesn't use them right either she often puts percentages on things with too many variables to calculate to the point where It feels Arbitrary. It feels more like your friend going i think this is what is most likely to happen or I think this is a bad idea than an objective measurement of Probability.)
I dont know if I'd consider this his most pointless quest, but rather showing the odds that Link usually goes against, and always overcomes. You could say its a measure of how rare of a person Link is each reincarnation lol.
Really shows how difficult it is to be a hero, even if the gameplay doesn't truly show the struggle Link goes through. But hey as a side note this game is FAR from pointless. If Link dies in SS, none of the other games happen... 😏 ha! Get it? Okay I'm done, lame joke.
no, but is true, if it wasn't for this link demise would have taken over the world, I think the title of the video and the video itself is the one that is pointless
When I was like 7 or 8 I really liked Fi and didn’t find her annoying I really liked the way she looked and the way she her dialogue sounds and I really liked her doing her weird dance on the water. She is basically my favorite guide in the entire legend of Zelda series. I still don’t find her annoying and I still like everything I mentioned.
Hey! It's not Navi or Fi's fault that they annoy a lot of people! They're just trying to help the hero on his quest! They're just doing their jobs! They're only annoying because by the time they even tell the player/Link what to do, they've already done it!
Wait which one? Skyward Sword isn't available on the Wii's eShop so you must be talking about Wii U but that didn't close though. Or is the game just not available anymore on Wii U?
My dad has been hit by lightning twice, so I'd say odds of a thing happening doesn't matter, its circumstance. Both times were when he had climbed up a mast just before thunderstorms started, but I'm just sayin..
I don't think it makes his quest pointless. In fact, it makes it more incredible, since Link is able to defeat Demise despite having even less than a 1% chance of succeeding.
my bro, age 16: *mashing 'a' throughought Fi's rambling * me, age 8: how do you even read that? my bro: I'm just a really fast reader me: *fully believes him * me now, sick of hearing the word percentage: haha bull, but I getchu
The Master Sword prolly fell into the volcano before the rest of the gear was bein' stolen. But, it didn't melt in the volcano. It was stuck in the ground. Maybe it was where it fell, with Fi waitin' ta be reunited with her master, Link. They could BOTH be snarky. He was the master who became her brave pal. And maybe the Master Sword was a friend to its masters 'cuz of Fi bein' their friend. She was like a genius with her guesses involvin' percentages. She developed happiness in the time they spent together.
Well use THIS: Technically the Avengers had a 1 in 14,605,000 chance of beating Thanos, but because that very small chance of the future was known and set into motion, that small chance became definite. I feel like that is similar with Skyward Sword, especially since Hylia knew the future to an extent, knowing she had to be reborn later on as a mortal. Plus, Hylia created Fi.
Link probably doesn’t die from the lightning strike that goes in the master sword because his sword is able to keep all of that energy inside of it kinda like rubber and a lightning rod.
The most pointless quest he’s been on? That logic isn’t straight, it’s the hardest quest he’s ever been on could be easier to argue, but since this quest ends with him defeating demise and setting up the story for all future games it definitely isn’t pointless

Fi: The likelihood of your success is close to zero.
Link: Maybe, but it isn't zero. And for me, that makes it the same as a hundred percent chance!
Hey plasma
Nothing is actually a chance. Fi is just trying to predict the future, but the outcome is set in stone.
Wow congrats for doing this just for one video, you have done a really big effort for your subs, thanx ^^
No problem!
"I wanted to play skyward sword growing up" wow Im old.
Same here, this guy must be really young xD
You ignore the fact that in any one of these it would still technically be possibly completable, Link would just have to search elsewhere.
Like if it wasn't the ship but there was the ship later on, that would increase the percent by one of it's biggest deductions.
That's fair
I have the theory that every timeline game in the series we played, always is the best scenario posible for Link.
That's why we never saw the hero of time loosing againts Ganondorf in OoT.
Failure: I am... inevitable.
Link: And I... am... Link.
DSK Don’t you mean: “Hep Hep Hep HYAH!” ?
You're not wrong xD
Wow. This is an incredible job, well done. It’s a very unique concept for a theory and the fact that it’s based of Skyward Sword is just so much better.
This seems very similar to Doctor Strange's "14 million 6 hundred and five futures" where they only win one, and yet it happens...
This is awesome and I'm sure some people got lost in the math. But your appreciation of Zelda is unmatched. Nice job!!!
SS would be my favorite Zelda if not for the controls. If you could mix SS with BOTW controls, it would be my favorite Zelda by far.
Hah! You billionaires and the 1% percentage. I beat Skyward Sword and I am part of the .003!
But didja earn the Hylian shield?
@@nikkolaus91 I beat it 3 times and got the Hylian shield, WITHOUT USING A SHEILD. I am a master of the Wii Motion Controls.
I really wish I recorded it, but trust me. I DID IT!
Same.
I see what you did there! “I can handle myself just Fi-ne.”
You arent pulling the wool over my eyes!
Says Fi isn’t as annoying as Navi yet complains about her number one annoying trait. Navi didn’t talk as much and almost all of it was useful. Why do people still ride the hate Navi train when she is the less annoying one.
Well you know what they say, “Luck favors the bold”. And who’s more bold than the wielder of the Triforce of Courage?
Nice to see another interesting theory! Also nice seeing you livestream this game not long ago
The biggest problem with skyward sword was treating every item as if it was your first item.
100% this.
I loved everything except that one issue practically broke the game for me. I deliberately left it on over night just to avoid it.
Oh I think I just got it... started typing mid-vid. Gotta stop doing that. Cool take on things, mate!
Fi : " CJ the amount of percentage of you succeeding following the damn train, is only 20% "
CJ : * Walking toward the Sanchez with BigSmoke * Ah shiet, here we go again.
Great video...but Fi is WAY more annoying then navi and that is a fact ;p
Croton Thank you Croton! 🙏
Or is it? **Vsauce background music**
I haven't actually played a game with navi, so I have no idea xD
I love how you decided to use Phoenix Wright BGM for this video. And that dedication and effort to make the video! You deserve more subs.
Skyward Sword Challenge: Roll a d100 every time Fi says a percentage. If you roll under the percentage, restart the entire game.
I actually took that percentage to mean something different, and what you said is a key thing to keep in mind. Link's chance of completing his quest is 5% or lower.. and yet he DID complete it. He overcame and conquered, and that's why he's Hylia's chosen champion.
This theory just hurts my heart because the odds of him succeeding are so low, but he does it anyway because he cares for Zelda that much, man q_q
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ACTUALLY POSTING A SKYWARD SWORD ONLY THEORY
The key element of your average hero's story is to *D E F Y* the odds. That's the joke with Fi.
Wow this video was a great video just like all your other ones. PS. Your hyahhh remix is your best video
Long story short: Fi has no clue what she's talking about.
I've actually been replaying skyward sword since the other day so this was cool to see!
But that's just a theory... A GAME THEORY. Thanks for watching.
Justin Y. Seeing you this early is an honor
But that is from game theory boiiiii
HOWWWW
Carl Webber I’ve definitely seen you before.
We see you less often, Juju.
You got me again... Thought my phone was ringing when I heard Zelda singing.
Sees NintendoBlackCrisis video clicks. It's a super mathy video. Me: Aww man! I just got out of school!!
I thought the thumbnail saying "impossible" it meant that demises curse cant be broken...
...
..
.
Or can it?
Only Ganon can break the curse
But he doesn't want to
Had the same expectation for the video tbh
You said 'Farosh' instead of 'Faron'. just a heads up. And also the fact that the chances are so low for Link beating his quest really solidifies his position as hero. Also stop dissing Fi. She is bestgirl
That's a weird way to spell Midna
@@seanorion7106 Midna > Fi, objective truth.
Very true, he could just be very lucky 😂
Really shows how difficult it is to be a hero, even if the gameplay doesn't truly show the struggle Link goes through.
But hey as a side note this game is FAR from pointless. If Link dies in SS, none of the other games happen... 😏 ha! Get it?
Okay I'm done, lame joke.
no, but is true, if it wasn't for this link demise would have taken over the world, I think the title of the video and the video itself is the one that is pointless
Holy crap, this is a really cool idea!
Great job!
Thanks!
Wow I thought you couldn’t do any better yet you cease to amaze me
Hey! It's not Navi or Fi's fault that they annoy a lot of people! They're just trying to help the hero on his quest! They're just doing their jobs! They're only annoying because by the time they even tell the player/Link what to do, they've already done it!
Hey there. Why don't you cover the Kokiris' transformation into Koroks?
The Ace Attorney music makes this theory 100% more amazing
Great vid! I plan to buy Skyword sward soon. too bad the eshop closed.....
Wait which one? Skyward Sword isn't available on the Wii's eShop so you must be talking about Wii U but that didn't close though. Or is the game just not available anymore on Wii U?
The wii version . I'm buying a hard copy.
My dad has been hit by lightning twice, so I'd say odds of a thing happening doesn't matter, its circumstance. Both times were when he had climbed up a mast just before thunderstorms started, but I'm just sayin..
“Hey......hey........listen............ “ I suppose hearing that over and over should take the award for most annoying sidekick lol
I don't think it makes his quest pointless. In fact, it makes it more incredible, since Link is able to defeat Demise despite having even less than a 1% chance of succeeding.
This all actually makes sense😂
I never thought of someone making a whole theory video about Fi's percent chance thing!
Good gob!
NBC is probably the youngest Zelda UA-camr I enjoy the dark theories you put out
my bro, age 16: *mashing 'a' throughought Fi's rambling *
me, age 8: how do you even read that?
my bro: I'm just a really fast reader
me: *fully believes him *
me now, sick of hearing the word percentage: haha bull, but I getchu
Love the Ace Attorney music.
*Pursuit-Cornered Variation plays
The Master Sword prolly fell into the volcano before the rest of the gear was bein' stolen. But, it didn't melt in the volcano. It was stuck in the ground. Maybe it was where it fell, with Fi waitin' ta be reunited with her master, Link. They could BOTH be snarky. He was the master who became her brave pal. And maybe the Master Sword was a friend to its masters 'cuz of Fi bein' their friend. She was like a genius with her guesses involvin' percentages. She developed happiness in the time they spent together.
Gaster would be proud!
I’ve got a drinking game for you. Every time he says “percent” take a shot.
You're a murderer!
How many do we win?
14 million 605
Link: I don’t care
Well use THIS: Technically the Avengers had a 1 in 14,605,000 chance of beating Thanos, but because that very small chance of the future was known and set into motion, that small chance became definite. I feel like that is similar with Skyward Sword, especially since Hylia knew the future to an extent, knowing she had to be reborn later on as a mortal. Plus, Hylia created Fi.
I love the Phoenix Wright music in the background
Link probably doesn’t die from the lightning strike that goes in the master sword because his sword is able to keep all of that energy inside of it kinda like rubber and a lightning rod.
Or all this could just be a testament to the spirit of the hero link possesses
The most pointless quest he’s been on? That logic isn’t straight, it’s the hardest quest he’s ever been on could be easier to argue, but since this quest ends with him defeating demise and setting up the story for all future games it definitely isn’t pointless
Well in retrospective i miss her. If you have the same issue just buy the new Fiphone! It comes wit a percentage battery icon, a percentage frequenzy icon and can calculate almost everything into percentages with a slight error margin of 101%.
Its now available in every material you can imagine and all colors your tongue can hear.
Finally, your tweets makes it impossible to wait
I never had motion control problems with skyward sword? I thought it was a lot of fun! Despite twilight princess being my favourite!
The only thing is that i had to hold the controller a certain way to get my loftwing to fly properly but it wasn't really a problem for me haha
YES A NEW ZELDA THEORY
