I was watching a documentary on aging in America and the focus was on people in nursing homes. My teen son walks by and asks why am I watching that as "you won't be in one". Whereas my children taking care of me is not part of my retirement plan, it felt good to know that he was in so many words telling me that he loves me and has my back.

    • @marianmoses9604
      @marianmoses9604 10 місяців тому

Kids say this and often mean it, but if you are felled with dementia or some other God-awful disease that demands 24 housing nursing care it usually is NOT something your kids will actually be able to provide to you, even if they deeply want to. Only very wealthy families can usually manage that. Everyone else either drops dead or is institutionalized as in that PBS documentary you alluded to. (Yeah, I watched that depressing dose of reality too…). So it still pays to plan for this if you do not want to burden your kids with guilt over not being able to follow through on the well intentioned promise.

And most people body will be so broken down and which is the plan they will be living their last years in nursing homes or hospital or hospice. 😢 what is great about that. It’s sad we are programmed this way. Funny how people say oh he didn’t work blah blah is why he/she is this way. But they get quiet when someone worked all their lives and now so broken down and money saved is now being spent on being hospitalized or rehab to get up a walk again etc. This world is a throw up coin no matter what you do because if your health gets the most of you in the end you are done and you have not done any traveling etc just work work work. Hi Tim I have a daughter who isn’t gonna take care of me nor should she, and I don’t really have any other family, and I kind of keep to myself and move around when I can.
I don’t have any retirement don’t have much savings. And I am not at all worried about the future.
some how it always just works out. And if it doesn’t, it won’t -and I’m OK with that too.
I think you have to be OK with knowing there may come a day where you’re not OK. And it took me my whole life to get to that point, but I finally feel like I can accept whatever happens.
I’ve been through a lot, I’ve lost a lot but I’m OK and I’m still here. And I know one day I might not be OK and one day I won’t still be here …
I am OK with that -it’s life it’s not supposed to last forever and there’s no need to worry about what hasn’t happened yet, or what might happen.
Because it might not happen. You might be surrounded by love and come into money and have everyone and everything you need when it’s your time to leave this world even if you have nothing right now.
So we are wasting our time worrying about a future that is not promised now when we should be living & loving THIS time -because come tomorrow we might not have it. Today might be all we have. For some reading this and some not reading this it is.
I am already on borrowed time. I should’ve died five years ago. Literally the doctor doesn’t know why I survived. But I’m not gonna worry about it. I’m going to live and be thankful that I have one more day even if it is just one more day I’m gonna make the best out of whatever happens even if it sucks….because someone always has it worse than i do. And no matter what I’m feeling I have to remind myself someone out there is feeling it worse and then I have to pray for them, and be grateful that I am still here to feel anything.
So every rainbow I see, every sunset & every sunrise i witness, every moment I am given, every laugh I share, even every tear I cry alone, I’m here for it!
I’m here for it for as long as I am given - and I am so thankful to still be here knowing full well that I almost wasn’t. What a gift --and for everyone who isn’t here I’m gonna do the best I can with my time because they didn’t get to … I am always aware when it comes down to it, that every breath is a gift, and that I am not entitled to any of those breaths-but for as long as I’m giving them, I’m going to do my best to help others and to love everyone and everything the best I can.

Up until now, I have not worried about things. I have so far had a fairly enjoyable and unconventional life. Recently though, I have started to worry about my age, physical condition, and not having work available as I age (or the inability to do it) and no savings. It started to lead to panic, and regret- even though at the moment, things are fine. I realized the worry is about not having a plan, and feeling like there are no options. At the same time, I realized basically what you are saying- worrying is not going to get me anywhere. In fact, it might be creating that "sick, alone, homeless and broke" future, if I do not let it go! Time to change my focus- my future looks bright, and it is going to be OK!

It's the social programming. But they forgot that the social contract has been broken: being married with children now doesn't mean your children won't be weaponized against you when you become old. Being a loyal employee now doesn't mean the company will prepare a safety net for you in your old age. In other words, the old ideals don't apply to today's realities. You can play by the rules and still end up old, lonely, and alone. No guarantee.

Great message brother. Im always telling people not to worry about anything. Enjoy life ...do what brings you joy and when a challenging situation arises that requires us to make a possibly difficult decision, address it and navigate through it until its resolved. We are not even guaranteed tomorrow so let's be present in the moment while joyfully considering how we would like certain aspects of our future to play out, while not stressing or worrying about matters that don't exist now and maybe never will. Life is a game and a journey. Lets have fun and play it well.😊 Thank you Tim for all the inspiration and encouragement to resist the programming and exercise our God given ability to think critically and choose our own adventure. Fear is the enemy "they" use to keep us stuck and worrying. We can choose to live outside of that emotional/mental construct.

Separating 'thought' from 'worry' is such an important point..! There's nothing wrong with thinking into the future and developing plans to make the best of it BUT once you start worrying about it you are doing yourself nowthing but a disservice, breaking your head over something that in and of itelself doesn't yield you anything. You are a great man, Tim..! 💟

Most people are caught up in the system and their daily grind and are jealous of your somewhat carefree, non pressured life.
I hope you continue to encourage more people to live your type of lifestyle because people need an escape from their daily work routine. Most people are working out of a necessity and not for the love of their job.

I am going to agree with your parents 100% here. It's really important to have a lot of money when you are older. Cuz when you are that old you won't be doing things that you do now. I'm also in my 40's. I work full time at the 1 said job I like. Hopefully it continues. My goal for this job I work at was just to pass the 1st week. When you are in your 40's it's a huge difference from when you were in your 20's working a job. If you can work a full time job, then why not do it? It'll benefit you in the long run financially. My thought is do as much as you can while you'll still can. I get bored of things really quickly. That's gets a lot worse I noticed when you get older.

Tomorrow is not promised nor guaranteed to anyone. Tomorrow does not exist. Life is not meant to be happy although we strive for it. It’s about survival. Life is a tough gig for everyone. We are all winging it. Paranoia and anxiety is healthy and it is for our very survival. It’s only when it’s chronic that it becomes unhealthy. Love is anxiety. Life is suffering. Attachment is suffering. Everything we do is out of fear and love. Just do you and enjoy what you love. We don’t have long. Life is short. In the end nothing matters. And remember, It’s just a ride… Bill Hicks…..

  • @angusorvid8840

A great point. Many of my friends and family members often bother me because I don't plan things years in advance. I never believed in getting a 401K because I never thought it would be something I could rely on, and with the housing crash that proved to be true. So I never took a job that would lead to one. I just hopped job to job. One reason we can't worry about the future is that we can only plan for today's problems. We don't know what the future may hold and what technology may alleviate problems, perhaps replacing old problems with new problems. We don't know what sort of crazy politics could create bad or bizarre laws that will alter life in ways we can't even begin to imagine. Rather than people freak out and create a bugout bag, they ought to lead a more bugout sort of life, just be mentally prepared that anything can happen and mentally prep yourself for that. It's more important than all the planning in the world because, again, you don't know what problems may, or may not, present themselves.
