Yip, same here -- on "Comedy Tonight" on KQED (PBS San Francisco). Same set, too. I didn't remember him until he said "Juggling a bowling ball is no big deal." Then I remembered the next line and most of the rest of it.
Saw Mr. Davis perform essentially this routine live around this same time at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. It's just as amusing now as it was then. And I mean that in the best way. Also appearing with him that night were Larry Bud Melman and James Taylor's brother, Livingston. Big time entertainment for Muncie!
Yes. But then any good Hoosier of a certain age should know that. Believe he's also been a benefactor and supporter of BSU for a number of years. Watching this video again also made me realize that Michael Davis' act also contains a touch of Steven Wright's twisted approach.🤪@@OeditpusRex
Oh the ball behind the head was accidental but he is so entertaining it doesnt matter. He gets it 90% the first try. Most entertaining i have ever seen.
And now the morons are stuck with Fallon, Colbert, and that very racist guy from South Africa..Noah something or other..and they're not even trying to be funny...Michael Davis was very funny...and still is
Johnny mentions college gigs on the guy's schedule. Sad that the woke snowflakes in college these days don't get to have comedians come on campus because of all their triggering BS. Their loss.
I'm 57 yrs old and this is my first time seeing his brilliantly funny act.
I like that you can hear Johnny laughing in the background .
I remember seeing him in the early 80's and him cracking me up with his bizarrely creative antics. He's still at it it now!

One of the funniest bits ever.
Never saw this before but truly unique and entertaining imho. Tx for reprising.
I absolutely love this guy. He is hilarious !!!!!
That was so very slick.
And so very hilarious.

Did you know David Letterman is a Ball State alumnus?

From one BSU alumnus to another, Hi!
Bowling balls at Ball State!
He was excellent.
That is fun and some serious talent!
The algorithm occasionally recommends this guy to me and somehow l keep laughing no matter how many times I've seen him.
It's that funny. I could watch it again right now, in an hour, tomorrow, in a week, a month, a year, and I'd still laugh off all three of my buttocks.
This man us brilliant 😊
Hilarious. This guy is amazing
A comic juggler. Brilliant!
He is great 😊
Master showman.
Usually, this kind of thing doesn't hold up 39 years later. This is a nice exception.
The first video I saw him in was the one entertaining Reagan and that skit was even funnier than this one. I love his act, he never disappoints.
Saw this same act in front of President Reagan and speaker Tip O’Neil.
Great act! 😂
I find it amazing that his act is based on a Steve Martin act.
SUCH a funny man! He reminds me of Tommy Smothers.
Great Adrian Belew impersonation too!
Damn.
This is SO much harder than doing the actual thing.
Back when late night was actual entertainment and not everyone was a superstar.
Awesome 👍
Fantastic
That was actually pretty damn funny
he's so good and quick that if he misses his recoveries are done so you can't be sure the miss was accidental.

The guy is real funny 😁
Fabulous!!
"Almost blind." Dead.
The word "guest" has only one S. 😂
It seems like the most talented performers are in the USA.
"Eight." Resurrected.
I wish there was a PiP so we could see Johnny's reactions.
I think he started out in SF near Fisherman's Wharf? Was he the guy who juggled chainsaws?
I can't believe Johnny didn't "invite him over."
No kidding. He was awesome.
what a CROCK of noodles......
6:08 hmm …
1:36 the first time i watched this very skit on carson, i was around 10 or 11.
i didn’t quite understand the joke then.
i did 3 years later.
You must be about 50. It's safe to let them go now, they'll still be there tomorrow.
He had a few subtle jokes in there, but my favorite was, “This makes essentially 7 balls … but why bore you with my troubles?”
After you see 2 acts it's like you've seen them all. Makes it repetitive and looks memorised and rehearsed.
He does his juggling and other tricks to perfection, which is neccesarily a repetion
of an act. Seamless.
It has to be like that.
Big shock
With this type of physical comedy, repetition isn't a bad thing. I've watched his bits many times and they never fail to amuse. @@4BoysForUs
You wouldn't believe who rehearsed his act - the juggler!
And back then, this was considered entertainment.
And now the morons are stuck with Fallon, Colbert, and that very racist guy from South Africa..Noah something or other..and they're not even trying to be funny...Michael Davis was very funny...and still is
Go ahead and enjoy your taylor swift.

Thank God I'm old
