I once met him in a club I was working in. He was the funniest man I ever knew. He sat there telling me the funniest jokes whilst I was trying to work. I was in so much pain from laughing I had to leave and come back later when he was gone.
My dad and I memorized his sketches, and to this very day we can still "mouth" them word for word! Brilliant dry sarcastic sense of humour!!!!! The absolute best.
The stupid and the jealous people. It's always like this. Whatever you do, there will always be someone who doesn't like it. You just have to ignore them.
I watched him many times on tv growing up in the UK … I moved to canada and my mum and dad had come over for a visit and I took them to Ontario Place in Toronto and totally unexpected discovered he was performing … sitting on the grass not many feet away from him was absolutely wonderful
My dad took my brother and me to see Victor Borge when we were kids after a very difficult event in our family’s life. To say we need to laugh is a monumental understatement. We laughed and laughed and laughed. I remember how we were laughing non stop during intermission. Laughed till I cried. My cheeks hurt so bad by the end. Thank you and god bless you Victor Borge.
A few years ago, thanks to the UA-cam algorithm, I discovered this man and ended up watching him for hours. I was excited to ask my parents if they had heard of him and my mom got the biggest smile and told me that her grandpa took her to see him when she was a little girl. They were both happy to be reminded of him and we watched a few acts that night. Victor is my go-to when I feel sad or having a bad day.
Same just discovered him tonight and I’m bing watching. My kids are 5 and 7 were laughing. As a French I’ll compare him to Louis De Funés. Not that they have the exact same humour but their comedies are timeless.
"She's a big soprano -she's about 4 and a half feet tall... lying down!" was the line that made me fall in love with Victor Borge, when I heard it, in my childhood, on a Royal Command performance concert on television and it stayed with me, all these years! I saw him in person 3 times. He was amazing. None stop laughter .We left the venue with our sides aching from laughing each time. What a joy his shows were, he was a great Comedian but He was really a marvellous Musician ! Wish I could see him again.
Thank God for this one- of-a-kind musical& comic genius. Never knew this kind of man existed on this planet before. Not until now... thanks UA-cam for bringing Victor Borge to us!
I’m almost 65 and remember him as a child. Had our family laughing every time we saw him. He does a skit where he gives sounds to all punctuation of a story. Simply hilarious
As a musician you have absolutely no.idea how talented and fantastic a musician you have to be to pull this off . He might have been funny but fully accomplished musician is an understatement .
Jesus loves you. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. Revelation 22:16 ✝🌅 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ✝🌅 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43 ✝🌅
I am so sad that it took me 30 years to find out about this wonderful man. This was comedic perfection! Not a missed line, not a wasted word! Even the "hiden" joke, which I think he may very well have improvised!
In the sixties, I’m old, I worked a few blocks from Carnegie Hall where I would go to to catch the crosstown bus. Carnegie Hall would post info about free tickets to rehearsals so it was a great treat to see Borge in rehearsal mode being wildly funny. It was great as I had always enjoyed watching him on television.
I was blessed to attend 2 of his programs. If not laffing profusely, I was grinning from ear to ear until it hurt. His talent was unending....sadly so very rare now.
Growing up my father was a great fan of Victor Borge. I was living with my wife in Connecticut and invited my father and his girlfriend up from NYC. They were both in there late 60's. We purchased tickets, killing our budjet, for my fathers birthday to see Victor's performance at the then New Fairfield Playhouse. Halfway thru the performance they were both asleep snoring. We were mortified and worried he would see them and make them part of his show. In retrospect I wish he had!
I know the Mozart and opera routines, I’ve seen him live in Boston and Washington, and yet I never tire of this magnificent Dane, a refugee from Hitler-occupied Europe, with the perennial twinkle in his eye. He was a concert level pianist, but we only get to hear tiny bits of his virtuosity. The pity always is that he didn’t play more… but had he done so we would have been deprived of these classic and delightful skits. What a gift he was to America and the world.
True story. My brother George Groot was a piano tuner and he tuned the Grand piano for Victor Borge in the 1940`s in the Civic Auditorium in Grand Rapids,Michigan and about 6 years later he came again to give a concert and after him meeting hundreds of people all over the world my brother was touching up the piano before the concert and Victor walked in and said Well, hello George!
I had forgotten about Victor....brings back memories of my Grandfather laughing out loud (which almost never happened) while watching this guy. I was young but I knew there was magic in this man's show.
Victor Borge was also hilariously funny when interviewed. I've seen video clips of him on the Tonight Show way back when Jack Paar was host and he had the audience absolutely roaring with laughter.
When I was a little girl and Victor would be on one of the 3 stations on our TV we laughed and enjoyed his amazing talents. Wonderful man and time. God bless.
I was just trying to find that one clip of him flipping the music the right way up but ended up starting a binge. He was SO funny. When he started singing I woke up everyone in my house laughing in the middle of the night
I was lucky enough to see him perform in Boston shortly before he passed away. It was one of the best "concerts" I ever attended. He truly was one of a kind.
Truly one of the the Greatest Danish Composer. He is truly a National Treasure, I actually met him. I have been told. My Gran Dad was actually friends with him so he had been to some of my families Birthdays and so on. I'm really sad that I can't remember it, But I was barely 1 Year old. But my Grandad told amazing stories about him. Truly a National Hero
How does he get away with it? His enthusiasm for comedy, mixed with musical aplomb is so wonderful to watch. My sides ache with laughter & tears stream down my face with the sheer joy of being entertained by a professional musician. Thank you for sharing.
As a concert pianist myself . I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in the 70s when I was a child. He was indeed a very sweet kind soul and the most brilliant comedian and pianist. Always witty and hysterical.
@@ginaveda1782 He was a musical & a comedic genius. Victor was truly a “one of a kind” entertainer. Wish they would come up with a TV Show replaying the old irreplaceable performances. We were so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to see the “Greats” in our own living rooms. 👍👏🤗😂🤣🤚🥰
There was such a glorious era for comedy in the 50s through the '70s, Victor among them. To a young boy as I was, it was charm and humor to the max. I thought they were institutions, glad to see these videos exposing more generations to these passed treasures that touched us so.
Once when a storm had blown part of the roof off his house he said that guests were still welcome but to bring their own umbrellas. Nu sulking, just pure genius.
This is a TRUE pianist with such refreshing comedy and incredible heritage of piano playing art!!! I regret how all those years of my life from this super artist and pianist, and glad found him accidentally on Instagram, his legacy will last forever and ever ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Victor Borge has always been one of my favorite pianists and humorists. He has always had a rather unique outlook on life. He was probably the one person who could seriously get me to listen to classical music as well as opera, since he was hilarious and was entertaining to those of us who didn't really understand what all went into what we were listening to. I'm so sorry that he's gone.
I fully understand your admiration for this unique entertainer---who wouldn't be? but what intrigue's me is your following interest into Classical music. Victors comedic snippets down play the seriousness that diehard fans usually get snobbish about. I think his audiences flocked to see him bring down and mock operas and the classics.
Philip Croft he is very clever. If you don't understand classical music or play the piano a lot of his jokes are really lost on you. I would have loved to see him.
What can one say about Victor Borge that hasn't already been said. Over many, many years I've kept my collection of Victor Borge recordings, VHS tapes, now CDs etc. Mr Borge has always been there for me whenever I feel down or a little blue... he always reminds me that this is what real entertainment is all about; well-practiced but always seeming fresh and immediate. Never a swear word or risqué dialogue; just pure talent for comedy, talent in timing and scripting. Above all of that Mr Borge was a true musical genius. He could make one cry with laughter or induce the most sentimental of tears when he occasionally, played some of his 'serious' material. Thanks to uploads from people like you, Mr Borge will be around for countless generations and be enjoyed and admired for a lifetime of making people laugh and be happy. Thank you. BH

Borge was a brilliant performer. A music and comedic genius. He enriched our lives in a wonderful way. We ought leave it at that.
Victor was part of a world of such talented and polished performers and artists who had amazing discipline, knowledge and skill. They made it all look so effortless. My philosophy teacher said "a genius makes the complicated and difficult look simple ."
There was so much goodness, kindness and love in this man’s heart when you listen to him it is pure joy of living that he exhibits along with his immense talent not just playing the piano but his comedic talent accompanying it - pure genius.
I simply adore this man. An accomplished pianist and a great humorist. It's a shame that a man with such a gift to entertainment has to leave us. Thank God that we at least have some video of him for future generations.

The jokes he told me could not be repeated on stage.
@@papklapa tell me one of them

He told peter jokes in a club which had a stage.
How anybody could possibly put a thumbs down to this jewel of a man and performer, is beyond me.
+copferthat They have no taste!
I agree...but some people like wearing tight shoes and others lack the capacity to appreciate genius. We are more fortunate than them.
The stupid and the jealous people. It's always like this. Whatever you do, there will always be someone who doesn't like it. You just have to ignore them.

He was the funniest piano player who ever lived.
.people like him should live forever
There is a definite line between an actor, an entertainer, and a showman! What a treasure!
This is classic comedy gold. The comedians today will never live up to these standards. Some are talented, but none will ever live up to these.
I watched him many times on tv growing up in the UK … I moved to canada and my mum and dad had come over for a visit and I took them to Ontario Place in Toronto and totally unexpected discovered he was performing … sitting on the grass not many feet away from him was absolutely wonderful
He is the best comedian, presenter, musician, person I have ever seen. He is so genuine and completely hysterical!! Love victor borge!!
He is the first comedy performer that ever made me cry with laughter. Miss you, Victor.
I always longed to see the rest of the routine again. Thank-you for uploading this.
I LEFT the USNAVY in 1956 oand took my dad to a d Borge show in Boston, had many laughs and good time. My dad could not carry a tune in a basket, but he certainly enjoyed the performance
There are many in the entertainment world that can pla the piano, BUT, to play as well as he did was a masterpiece and a lot of fun.
I miss my dad, passed in 1997, mother passed in 1991
It's the way he describes the Soprano and the Tenor and her Father . I have seen a sketch he does with an Opera Singer . It's hilarious.
The routine must have varied slightly over the years, as the version on the LP I have is slightly different.
He was a gentle joyful gentleman, wonderful humour, excellent cultured pianist, witty and subtle. He wouldn't have had a chance in today's entertainment world. THank you for the download.
Haven’t watched him for years. Brings back such happy memories of his comedic genius as well as his musical ability. A complete joy!

I just stumbled across this. This is brilliant. What a genius this man was.
Dallas M I envy you, just learning about him. Incredibly talented pianist, even better comedian!
Yes. Believe it or not there was a time when entertainers were actually entertaining. Not like the losers we have out there nowadays.
I saw him in person 3 times. He was amazing. None stop laughter .We left the venue with our sides aching from laughing each time. What a joy his shows were, he was a great Comedian but He was really a marvellous Musician ! Wish I could see him again.
@Hello Carole how are you doing
This doesn't get any less funny, no matter how often I come back to it. Wonderful!
Thank God for this one- of-a-kind musical& comic genius. Never knew this kind of man existed on this planet before. Not until now... thanks UA-cam for bringing Victor Borge to us!
Me too
I’m almost 65 and remember him as a child.

I am so sad that it took me 30 years to find out about this wonderful man. This was comedic perfection! Not a missed line, not a wasted word! Even the "hiden" joke, which I think he may very well have improvised!
That Haydn joke definitely wasn't improvised; part of his genius is performing it in such a way that it _looks_ improvised.
So funny and so clean. Proves you can make people laugh and not be vulgar.
I don't know, "Mrs. Mozart was not," was pretty edgy, if you read between the lines.
@@adriangalindo3802 but it wasn't vulgar

So you wish Billy Connolly had not been around. Billy makes swearing into an art form.
This man's knowledge is beyond encyclopaedic. And his talent is beyond measure.
Even if you say that, that doesn't mean we can't do it as well, he worked hard for it, but that doesn't mean he's perfect, he's a human after all.
For sure, but he's astonishing, nonetheless.

What a nice thing for your bro and what a rare personality this virtuoso guy !
I will humbly apologize in advance, sir. But........you are GROOT!
What a stunning story. And to have Victor Borge remember that after 6 years is just amazing.
As one of the current generation of piano tuners I would be ecstatic if someone like Victor Borge remembered me when I tuned their piano for a concert
Mystical, and you are obviously much too young. Now run along.....
God bless.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is entertainment.
Thank you.
This man was quite simply a genius there will never be another Victor Borge
I was just trying to find that one clip of him flipping the music the right way up but ended up starting a binge. He was SO funny. When he started singing I woke up everyone in my house laughing in the middle of the night
I was lucky enough to see him perform in Boston shortly before he passed away. It was one of the best "concerts" I ever attended. He truly was one of a kind.
The guy has such class he doesn’t need to do the mic drop when he finishes, the curtain does it for him :D
Nice catch!

....but hopefully not too hard.
He was an absolute genius. I’ve enjoyed watching his performances throughout the years.

Thank you. BH
