Having worked for Lance at the Monte Carlo in Vegas for years as his audio engineer, I saw this act 1000’s of times. I knew how he did most of it. But never once in watching it over 3000 times did I ever see him mess up or reveal anything. He truly is that good, and yes an extremely nice guy and was excellent to work for!
The first time I ever went to Las Vegas we only had enough money to see one show. I insisted on seeing Lance Burton and I was not disappointed. As a fellow Southerner it was so great to see him really succeed and be one of the greatest illusionists I ever saw. He was unbelievably good
That was the most effortless, flawless, elegant and perfect performance I have ever seen. I remember master magician, Lance Burton being phenomenal when I watched him on tv as a kid, but now in my late 50’s after trying my hand at card magic myself over the last year or so, he is even more incredible than I remembered. That was a master class in all aspects of stage magic and performance. I need to point out that in addition to Lance Burtons amazing skill and presentation another element of real magic shown here, was the camera work. I wish every tv show director in the US would watch how to utilize the cameraman correctly as shown here. No one ever wants the camera to cut away from the act to focus on the judges, hosts, or audience members faces and reactions, no one wants to see that. Keep the camera on the performer at the same angle from start to finish. AGT I am talking to you!
Personally, I think this guy looks like your classical vampire with that hypnotic stare those long Nosferatu looking fingers but definitely is one of the greatest magicians of all times. His theatrics is perfect
I worked with his mom at the Frito Lay factory in Louisville in 1983. She was the sweetest lady, and would tell me about her son who was performing magic in Las Vegas. She never told me that he had already been on the Johnny Carson show by that time. His mentor was a former plant manager at the factory who would perform magic for the kids at company picnics and events. His interest in magic as a child really paid off. Thanks for posting this video.
Nice to see. At that time they gave acts the time it deserved. Nowadays a performance would never be allowed to be this long. They think the viewers will get bored. And thats why we now have a generation of people with short or no attention span.
Wrong, it’s because corporations want more time to show their ads. They’ve cut down on show times, sped old shows up and put ads everywhere they can. So stop ragging on the young people.

everything about Lance is 100 % true. A gentleman, the best... met him when I was 20... he stopped his Vegas show to give us , a bunch of 15-20 yr old kids a hand , stating we were the future of magic. What other $100M entertainer would do that.... i will give you a great story he told us too: durng his Monte Carlo reign, in his gorgeous theater, he would bring up a kid during the first act of his show and do an illusion, take a pic, and give the kid a Lance Magic Kit... he said once... he brought up a British kid... the kid did the routine... posed for the picture in front of hundreds of audience members... but Lance jokingly said like, " " Timmy, you don't look too excited about that Kit, would you like to have Stephanie instead... joking about his beautiful assistant ... without missing a beat... the kid said " Oh no, Father could never afford something like that ! " The entire place was rolling for 5 minutes straight.... he said it was something he'd never forget.
Just saw Lance at the 2022 Cherry Festival in Beaumont Ca. He was amazing even in a scaled-down show...he had a crew of guest magicians and jugglers and the like...He did the table levitation and picked my little daughter to be levitated...He was so nice and made the experience amazing for her...He is Still Awesome. We met him after the show he was very cordial and friendly.

Little known is the fact that Johnny, a magician himself, bucked the network about commercial placement for Lance. Normally a commercial comes about every 7 minutes. But Lance needed more time so as not to break the continuity of his act. Johnny went to bat for him and got the network to delay going to a break; that's the clout Jonny had! I wish I had seen that show or the Tropicana before it. I did however, see him at the Monte Carlo. He was very nice and patient meeting with all the guests after the show. He is an honorable man.
Also saw Lance way back at the Hacienda . Awesome teenage memory. Michael Goudeau opened with some insane and hilarious juggling. Topas was in the audience that night. And I got called up on stage for the card stab. Mind blowing flawless sleight of hand. Had eyes on him like a hawk from the front table. Nothing closer to pure magic.
Magicians clip the wings of their doves to physically disable them. It makes it very difficult for the dove to fly and they just want to get to the nearest perch and rest. I'll leave it up to you to decide if that is cruel or not.
The true magic lies in making not just inanimate objects behave like he wants, but even living that have a will of their own! It's frightening in a way. He radiates power!

Great video. This aired when I was 1 yrs old, so I don't remember it unfortunately lol. You know Burton is one of the greats because I noticed his tricks are still being used by most magicians today or at least their work is inspired by these tricks.
I disagree. There was a point where he was trying to produce something from his hand and couldn't make it happen, so he turned to his other side and did the same trick again, with more success.Talented, not flawless.

Many thanks for the tip.
(...I'll be doing that from now on)
God bless.
He got me...
One (if not the most) beautiful magic performance I have ever seen.
He has such a great face and looks like he is having a great time too; what a show!
amazing
He's the closest to a REAL magician that I've ever seen. Who knows, maybe he is a REAL magician!
Or perhaps using black magic...
Marvellous! Bravo!!
DB: I have no cards for my performance, give me back my packs!
Damn! Even the pigeons stayed back to watch him perform!
Saw Lance way back at the Hacienda Hotel in Vegas, it was amazing the best ever in Magic.
@@tidanmd So cool bro what a story!
This was truly amazing. I most impressed with how he kept the doves from flying off in all directions
It’s true. I used to work with doves in my own act, and they CERTAINLY have a mind of their own!!
They are train to fly there he feeds them there
Magicians clip the wings of their doves to physically disable them. It makes it very difficult for the dove to fly and they just want to get to the nearest perch and rest. I'll leave it up to you to decide if that is cruel or not.
@@FlightEagle Yeah I'd say that's pretty cruel. Thank u for the info.
@@FlightEagle no they dont..I never clip wings ..I was professional magician for years
This is exactly what made me love magic. Real magic tricks and mini illusions with no mentalism ❤️
The true magic lies in making not just inanimate objects behave like he wants, but even living that have a will of their own! It's frightening in a way. He radiates power!
I like that. Radiates power. Very true
@@darksidedeceptions And energy with a hint of mania and incredible confidence. Unbelievable stage presence, some of the most mesmerizing performances and performers I have ever seen. I did not know him before that clip. May I'm too young or maybe because I'm German. Anyway. The eyes! If you told me he was a vampire, I'd probably consider it!
Amazing and I must say a beautiful man to behold.
Great video. This aired when I was 1 yrs old, so I don't remember it unfortunately lol. You know Burton is one of the greats because I noticed his tricks are still being used by most magicians today or at least their work is inspired by these tricks.
Was a High School Sophomore when this aired. Man, he was great.
Masterful performance. Wow.
I like the classic Victorian style. That was an awesome performance. Lance has amazing talent.
Just the perfect act for the right magician at the right time. Brilliant.
Flawless work
I disagree. There was a point where he was trying to produce something from his hand and couldn't make it happen, so he turned to his other side and did the same trick again, with more success.Talented, not flawless.
I am 100% convinced that Lance Burton is Dracula.
utterly amazing. when i think of a magician in my head this is what comes to mind that old timey western show up with a truck full of magic type stuff
He'd only been in town for a week when he was invited to do this show. He's 20 YO.
It is amazing. It was so satisfying to watch.
I saw Lance Burton in 2007, at his theatre. I was granted a free seat upgrade just as the show was starting. I wound up on about Row 4, just slightly right of Center, on the aisle. Fantastic seat. @$100.00
Great stage presence. A master of his profession. Pure class. That's Lance Burton.
Truly beautiful what was amazing the really tough palming and sleight of hand card magic, in truth the most difficult tricks in his act which were done flawlessly got little response and the basic stage 1 set ups got oohs and aghs from the audience 😢.
Johnny at the end “Eeexpert! … Take a bow!” People don’t understand the weight Johnnys praised carried. If Johnny says your an expert then you’re a GOAT.
Met him in Vegas 1995 after his show..a thorough gentleman, great illusionist.
Mind-blowing! Mesmerizing!
Everything he does is class! So elegant and beautiful.
I saw this in 1981 and it was amazing how he did all of his magic tricks without Hardley taking his eyes off of the audience.
I agree. Totally amazing!
Never forgett when I saw him winning FISM 1982 . An to most unknown person shocking the audience with something this extraordinary! After watching hours of hours of mediocre performers, this was worth every penny spend to visit Lausanne, Swiss.
Thank you for sharing.
Half of a good magic act is stage presence and Lance certainly has it.
Doesn't get any better than this, intriguing character too!
you can tell that Carson was truly moved by this act. Superb performance and choosing Mozart’s music was perfection.
Vivaldi and Stravinsky.
I've run this video at a quarter speed & I still can't see how he does that sleight of hand.
LANCE BURTON IS MAGIC .................😄
He does this weird thing with his mouth from beginning to end. Once you see it you can't unsee it. But! He is definitely one of the best ever. A true showman in the same vein as David Copperfield. No wonder Las Vegas gave him his own show for so many years!
This is one of the best magic shows I’ve never seen
I hope you get to see it someday.
He did this routine at the IBM convention in New Orleans, I believe. It was unreal.
Cool!
Amazing hands and tame birds...Wow!
Lance will always be the GOAT
Classy and elegant. A true master.
Lance Burton ! The BEST !
Truly amazing performance. His hands were so special.
Brilliant.
You just don’t see acts like that any more.
I hope we get to see another amazing Magician like him one day.
@@darksidedeceptions Check out Jeki Yoo or Mario Lopez.
Thank goodness.
@@dfarmer1584 not my bag either but his level of skill should be lauded.
Charlie Miller's act seems dated now too but he's Charlie Miller and I'm a stupid hillbilly
He is just on another level. Even that look in his eye, he's so focused. Or possessed LO.L When you do Carson show, You do Carson's show. Totally worth the price of Admission
Very nice.. performance
Face expression out classs❤❤❤
That man walked out on stage with 15 decks of cards and five birds shoved into his sleeves. Amazing.
No kidding! I'm completely dumbfounded!
Also glitter, ribbons, and where did the silver ball disappear to at the end??
@@HelpMeFindTheseSongs
He put that in the basket when he put the cloth away.
Pay attention to his eyes 😮he does tricks not even looking at his hands 😮 always eyes on the crowd 😊 .. im amazed by the pigeons.. flew on the street sign and just chilled there😊
Very true.
*CARSON LOOKED TRULY HAPPY AND IMPRESSSED. CLASS ACT ON STAGE NO GIMMICKY CARD TRICKS*
*WISH HE INTERVIEWED LANCE BURTON*
*WHY DO MAGICIANS ALAWAYS HAVE A STRANGE LOOK?*
