Thanks for the good content! I started with Broccoli for 6 months. I've now got a few customers and I'm currently growing my first batch of sunflower, radish, and peas.
I started out trying many different types before sticking with these varieties: -Mustard (Wasabi) -Broccoli (Raab) -Radish (Daikon) -Radish (Kaiware) -Buckwheat -Cress (“Curly”) -Lentil (Crimson, Black and Green [All very bitter I should’ve stopped after trying the crimson]) -Corn (“Popcorn”) -Fenugreek -Red Clover -Basil (Purple and Genovese Sweet) -Parsley (Hilmar) -Kale (Winterbor) and I’m testing Fava Bean right now I think I’ll do that more in the summer when I have more space along with Broccoli and Cress
Haha wow that's a ton of varieties! I'm still only using the same four varieties in this video to keep my business nice and concise and streamlined but I am testing a mix right now which I hope to add as a product in the coming weeks. I've never seen lentils grown as microgreens. You're growing them as microgreens, not sprouts right?
I can’t wait to start growing my own microgreens! I love them. My fav way to eat them is a salad of mixed microgreens with some lime juice squirted and a sprinkle of salt. So yummy 😋😋😋
I just started a few months ago. I'm just a hobbyist in a small household. At the moment, my 4 most common sprouts/greens are: Mung Bean Sprouts Broccoli Sprouts Radish Sprouts Pea shoots I'm looking forward to adding Parsley, Kohlrabi, and Sunflower, and soon as I csn buy and setup a rack with grow lights.
I do have a question when you are selling let’s say at farmers markets are there in your shop; do you offer pamphlets or flyers on the varieties or recipes? I can imagine folks not knowing what to do with the greens other than throw them in a salad. That’s why I ask.
Thats a great thought. I don't currently have anything like that but i'm sure it would definitely help my business. I highly suggest this even though I haven't done it. The more your customers can eat, the more you can sell!
Hello, I am the beginner of growing microgreens from India.. I started with green gram last week nd horsegram in this week. Thanks a lot for your useful ideas.
I am new to microgreens and was trying to grow black eye peas and mustard seeds with no luck, I agree that the 4 you mentioned are the easiest to grow I will stick with these for now thanks you
I grow Radish (“Ruby stem” pink stem like China rose, “Triton” purple stem and “Red” which has dark purple leaves like Rambo radish) I also grow Peas (“Speckled” the “green” and “yellow” ones grow way slower and shorter) and I grow Sunflower same variety as you black oilseed, do you put plastic over the sunflowers to moisten the shells? I have grow space for 36 trays indoor over the winter and 150-200 in the summer (outdoor)
Wow thats a lot of space! 150-200 trays would be a ton of food haaha. I'm currently doing 132 trays/week. For the sunflowers I don't put anything over them. What I do instead is I top water so the seeds get wet and then I brush them with my hands each day to physically knock most of the seeds off. What have you been doing to get the seeds off? You put plastic over them?

Can you add nutrient value for each microgreen variety; pea, amaranth, broccoli...? Those that grow microgreens say how healthy but never give data behind it. How many ounces should we eat a day? Health enthusiasts on UA-cam say we should eat 5oz to 7 oz of mixed greens a day. I would think we would need to eat half that amount if we consumed microgreens.
Eat til you’re full. Fruit is the no1 food for humans, we aren’t omnivores but these are a close second as they shouldn’t be anywhere near as heavy on digestion as a fully grown veg.
Hi! Great video, just one question do you have some kind of cheat sheet for those? I mean like how much weight worth of seeds do you use per tray, how much water to spray them over with, how long to keep the trays stacked for each variety? Thank you :)
I don't have this but that is actually a great idea! I'll have to put something together. I see Instagram being a better platform for posting that type of information so definitely follow me on there and await the post! 🌱💚
I have this same exact question about the cheat sheet. I've started to grow Peas Broccoli and Radish myself. I have a good idea about the Peas and the Radish from Nates Microgreens course. But the Broccoli is leaving me with some questions. I do not have social media except for UA-cam. Where else besides Instagram could I get some info about Broccoli? Hey donny i m from india.. i are really curious abut growing microgreens. And i so happy that i stumbled upon this special channel .. the content is so amazing. I do have many questions.. will surely join the Facebook community! ❤️
My lentil and peas microgreens are turning brown at the ends instead of turning green when I put them to the light. I am doing everything step by step. They sprouted fine and formed a good root system. After that, I open them to the natural light and start putting water on the bottom. Instead of turning green, they look almost burned. I wasted 3 trays of microgreens already. I am not sure why? Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
Hi Donny! Gearing up to jump in head first into growing microgreens and wanted to know the best width lights to use on the standard 48" racks? They come in several widths, but idk the optimal length if 4 trays are on each rack level. Thanks for the informative videos!!
I've just started my microgreens business, kind of difficult in Ontario where they have us all locked up!! I am growing sunnies, green pea, ruby stem radish, broccoli and arugula. So far so good. It seems my greens are shorter than yours, I think it must be the temperature of the grow room. Mine is a little on the cool side between 69-71. Thanks for the awesome vids. Sunnies are my favourite so far. Arugula yuck! But I.m sure it's good in a salad or something?
I started with sunflower, broccoli, mizuno mustard, speckled pea and cilantro. The sunflowers are ready today and look very nice but I just used my bird seed to experiment with. Now I need to buy better seeds online. Who do you suggest and who should I buy my trays from. I'd like more heavy duty trays that last any suggestions?
Yes! Definitely buy the same trays I use. There is a link in the description of this video. Additionally, I will be releasing a video on sunflower seeds in two weeks that you will love!
Ray mak? For those who don’t know this dude comments on almost al vids on UA-cam. Didnt know he liked gardening unless he commented for the clout lol. Cool though
Yes very busy year unfolding for you, and just like your micro greens its growth. I started with broccoli, tried sun flower mixed results actully I had better luck with what they sell for bird seed. Do you ever grow red beets?? also have you ever watched " The science of getting rich" on yutube, some good nuggets in there? Love your videos and your transparent style. You are living life on a higher frequency ,keep on growing . Thanks. Willem De Groot
Much love William, thanks for this comment! Never grow beet micros, no, I just stick to my core 4. I gotta check that video out, thanks for the recommendation
I used to grow sunflowers but the hulls of the seeds are too annoying for me. Kudos to you! You should try arugula microgreens, easy to grow, powerful peppery flavor. Everybody I've given samples too loves them. 18g seed/ 10x20 avg 6oz yield/10x20.
Yeah sunflowers are a pain but well worth it for my business. I find soaking for only 4 hours and making sure to brush the top of the plants with my hands each day to knock the hulls is a tremendous help. Arugula are awesome, I grew a few trays when I first started but I found that they were a bit tricky to grow, especially because they stay so small! Do yours get tall like the other microgreens?
@@DonnyGreens They are definitely not as tall as radish or sunnies, but 3 days stacked and 2 days in blackout get them to about 1.5 inches. If they get much taller than that they tend to fall over easily. I use electric shearers to make quick work of the harvest. I will tag you on insta in a video I made about harvesting.
Thanks for the tag, they look amazing. The shears you use look super cool too but im still not sold on them haha. I like my simple harvesting knife. Actually, next weeks video is about harvesting with a knife! how funny!

Hi Donny, Just found your channel, thank you for the great microgreen education. I just learned about the 4 varieties you grow, the names of the radish and sunflower. What is the name of the pea and brocoli seeds that you suggest & may I get the link of the seed company you suggest? I am hoping that you have an affiliate link available. Thank you. Bill
Hey Bill!! I typically use TrueLeafMarket for my seeds. The broccoli is Waltham 29 and the peas are speckled pea. Dun pea is also similar. I hope this helps!
Thanks so much for the feedback! I try to be efficient as possible so I don’t waste people’s time. To find info on nutritional profiles, I would first use googles to see what you can find. Hippocrates Health Institute is a great resource and has tons of this information, so go dig around their site and content. Another great resource is Dr. Rhonda Patrick is another fantastic resource for this type of information and she also digs deep on broccoli microgreens and the health benefits of sulforaphane. I see your name is 631 Care... are you from Long Island?!
Thanks. I started watching you bcoz my wheatgrass started developing mold. I wud love to grow micro greens but I live in a flat. Wud u recommend a micro green grower? That isa term from my vocabulary. But is there anything where the greens are not affected by heat, humidity or pollution?
Not sure what you are really asking here but wheatgrass will grow better in a little bit of a cooler environment. Take them out of germination as early as possible too
Thanks for the video! I've been looking into growing microgreens over the past few months. I'm going to try pea and radish. Is wheat grass tough to grow?
Wheatgrass is definitely prone to mold. Take it out of germination as early as possible and keep the temperature low, it likes it a little colder. Pea and radish are the easiest, great idea. Definitely buy some equipment and jump right in! Thats the best way to learn. Here is a video I made all about the equipment and supplies you need: ua-cam.com/video/qoxBidEyToQ/v-deo.html
I haven't started growing ant Microgreens yet but I'm seriously considering on doing so along with another hobby that I just started as well which is growing Mushrooms. Question for you regarding Microgreens should I start with a growing kit? Also is it best for a beginner to grow inside of outside? I live in Florida if that helps out so it's constantly hot and humid in my area.
I definitely prefer growing indoors because you can really control the environment and dial in your process. You can start with a kit but I recommend just buying the right equipment from the start which can be found in the descriptions of my videos here on UA-cam. I'd start with some trays, potting mix, get yourself a light and some seeds. I have quite a few videos that will be super useful for you to watch.
Hi Donny, greetings from Panama, I have seen your videos and I would like to start my microgreens business here, but I don't know how the weather works for this type of crops, nor do I get the seeds locally, which would you recommend where I can buy them at a good price to import to Panama?
Nice!! Typically the lentils grown at sprouts but you can totally grow them as Microgreens. Everybody's growth cycles will be slightly different because of their different processes and grow environment, so try planting with about an ounce of seeds and see how they grow!
Do you water the broccoli while it is through the germination process or do you water it once and then water it again 3 days later when you put it under lights ? Thanks in advance and awesome video as always !

Started with fenugreek 2 days ago.
Awesome! Very excited for you. The first grows are so magical :)
Thank you again spending the day on your play list your an excellent teacher I appreciate you
I've just started my microgreens business, kind of difficult in Ontario where they have us all locked up!!
Hi Brenda do you still sell in Ontario?
Starting up my own micro green op very soon ontario also
I started with sunflower, broccoli, mizuno mustard, speckled pea and cilantro.
After your first crop of micro greens do they re-grow or do you start again. Just getting started in if I want grow micro greens
I originally thought you could cut them down and they would continue to regrow
Just learned that every time you cut they don't produce the same
Yes. replant each time!
Thanks for this!
No problem! Thanks for watching and for your comment!
10 DTM !
Actually, next weeks video is about harvesting with a knife! how funny!
@@DonnyGreens looking forward to seeing how you work your magic
Do you have to maintain a certain temperature inside your home for growing microgreens?
Thank you for making this video, it helped me in my project.
Thank you so much for reaching out and letting me know it means the world to me! 🌱💚 i’m so glad it helped you to get started! Are you starting a personal project or business project?
Hi Donny, Just found your channel, thank you for the great microgreen education. I just learned about the 4 varieties you grow, the names of the radish and sunflower. What is the name of the pea and brocoli seeds that you suggest & may I get the link of the seed company you suggest? I am hoping that you have an affiliate link available. Thank you. Bill
Hey Bill!! I typically use TrueLeafMarket for my seeds. The broccoli is Waltham 29 and the peas are speckled pea. Dun pea is also similar. I hope this helps!
Best success for me has been snap
Peas! Want to do radish that you mentioned! Sounds great 👍 Kristy in Missouri 😃
Much love, thanks for the comment! 🌱🚀💚
I'm going to try what you suggest. Thank you for sharing.
no problem! 🌱💚
I'm starting Wednesday and I'm trying two different salad mixes.
Have been watching vids for a while on microgreens. I think I will start after fall garden is in.
Thank your for the video.
Thanks for your comment!
Great video. Straightforward & informative. What would be a good resource to find more info on the nutritional profile of Microgreens?
Thanks so much for the feedback! I try to be efficient as possible so I don’t waste people’s time. To find info on nutritional profiles, I would first use googles to see what you can find. Hippocrates Health Institute is a great resource and has tons of this information, so go dig around their site and content. Another great resource is Dr. Rhonda Patrick is another fantastic resource for this type of information and she also digs deep on broccoli microgreens and the health benefits of sulforaphane. I see your name is 631 Care... are you from Long Island?!
Thanks for the info !
Are you using T5 lights, Will you ever go LED for lower heat and running costs? I haven't noticed any circulation fans, do you use them?
You can find links to all the seeds, supplies and equipment I use in the descriptions of my UA-cam videos! Watch my farm tour video
All of the varieties you mentioned sound amazing! I might start with sunflower seeds 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Awesome, those are deff the most challenging of the bunch
My first one will be WATERCRESS i dont get how i have not seen a single video on watercress microgreen yet. Next one is radish purple sango 💪💪🌿🌿
niceee watercress isnt super popular. purple radish sure is though
Donny, is this one of those things that sounds too good to be true? Thank you for sharing 🤗
You are very welcome, im happy to share! Definitely not too good to be true, im living it!
So helpful! Thank you.
No problem, thanks for commenting!
i'm a dumpea enthusiast as well
I want to start with Brocolli, but don’t know what brand
Click the link below in the description that says Microgreens SEEDS. Then search for waltham 29.
Take them out of germination as early as possible too
2 sites - Hoss tools and True Leaf market both have microgreen growers with the grow light in them.
green grams and fenugreek is what i started with :)
Awesome! Thanks so much for letting me know! Are you still loving those same varieties? :)
I feel awesome for finding your channel. Thanks for the awesome content on micro greens . Signed a happy new subscriber
Awesome! Thank you!
@@DonnyGreens Thanks for the info! I just ordered radish (China Rose) and pea (Dun) seeds through True Leaf Market.
Sunflower and Spicy Salad mix!
Nice!! My customers love those two!
Great video, very helpful.
Thanks so much! Have you started growing yet?
Where can i get seeds in balk in kg? I have seen in your videos thats you buy in bulk. Please share. Much help
When I cut the greens I find the tips turn slightly brown. Is there any way to avoid this happening?
I wish to grow Red Radish , beet and mustard Microgreen ..can u pls advise about their seeds , Soaking and Nutrients content... pls
Very nice!! Those seeds dont get soaked. Have you watched my other videos?
How much in weight do you seed a 1020 tray for the Sunflower?
My seed rate for sunflower is 5oz (dry) which I then soak for four hours. What density have you been using?
Keep up the good work..
Thanks so much! Are you a farming hitman?
How long do you keep them under lights?
Hi , Do we need Seedling heat mat to grow microgreens ?
No you do not. I have never used one.
Sorry Edgar, the only language I know is English!
Hi Donny, greetings from Panama, I have seen your videos and I would like to start my microgreens business here, but I don't know how the weather works for this type of crops, nor do I get the seeds locally, which would you recommend where I can buy them at a good price to import to Panama?
I wat to grow Kale, fenugreek and lentil shoot microgreens first for the health benefits. What are the growing rates for these particular microgreens
Thanks! I do not water during germination
@@DonnyGreens Thanks again ! I'm going to try it tomorrow with some radish!
What kind of vehicle is best for your operation
Where can I find a price list for me to sell to restaurants. How do I know what to charge
Hello All, Question please, Which greens to grow in a warm tropical environment? Thanks in advance.
Great information!
Thanks!!
I am trying to learn how to grow in a small space. I love greens of all kinds. I just want to keep my salad bowl and have the ability to eat different types. I really need help. ✌🏿🕯️💞
Awesome, I think thats totally manageable!
