Thanks for watching! I love these four varieties so much, they've kept my business model simple and efficient. What microgreens did you grow first?
You’re the man
@@yungruuku haha thanks homie
I added fava beans to ur list.
Gonna start with sunflowers radishes and peas!
My first few microgreens were mustard, fenugreek, green gram, pea shoots and chickpea shoots 🌱
1. Pea (Dunn Pea)
2. Raddish (China Rose)
3. Sunflower (Black Oil Seeds)
4. Broccoli
Are you buying organic seeds?
Which broccoli microgreen? There are more than one choice for Broccoli..
@@Matticulous-Media it’s a personal thing. We grow De Cicco as microgreens and in the ground.
The 4 are:
1. Pea (Dunn Pea) Good for juicing
2. Raddish (China Rose)
3. Sunflower (Black Oil Seeds) The bigger the seeds , the better. Good for juicing
4. Broccoli (dont over water it) 40 times more nutrient than the adult. The healthier.
Dude you planet a good seed in everyone's head. You are such a good person to show everyone what you are doing. Such a humble human.
Thanks for this 🌱💚
Thanks for the good content! I started with Broccoli for 6 months. I've now got a few customers and I'm currently growing my first batch of sunflower, radish, and peas.
I started out trying many different types before sticking with these varieties:
-Mustard (Wasabi)
-Broccoli (Raab)
-Radish (Daikon)
-Radish (Kaiware)
-Buckwheat
-Cress (“Curly”)
-Lentil (Crimson, Black and Green [All very bitter I should’ve stopped after trying the crimson])
-Corn (“Popcorn”)
-Fenugreek
-Red Clover
-Basil (Purple and Genovese Sweet)
-Parsley (Hilmar)
-Kale (Winterbor)
and I’m testing Fava Bean right now I think I’ll do that more in the summer when I have more space along with Broccoli and Cress
Haha wow that's a ton of varieties! I'm still only using the same four varieties in this video to keep my business nice and concise and streamlined but I am testing a mix right now which I hope to add as a product in the coming weeks. I've never seen lentils grown as microgreens. You're growing them as microgreens, not sprouts right?
I have been binge watching your videos as I need them. And joined your group. Literally just planted my first trial crops! :) I'm so excited.
Keep killing it Don! I'm down in North Carolina now, living on a farm that specializes in microgreens and will be starting my business within the next year or 2!
Wow that incredible! Smart move, learning everything first before diving in. What farm are you working at? Maybe I've heard of them 🌱
@@DonnyGreens Sweet Peas Urban Gardens with an amazing family. I'm WWOOFing with them at the moment but going to find a place and become an employee soon.
Soo cool man, I’d love to WWOOF one day. Sounds like you’re in good hands, im sure you will learn a ton! Keep up the good work, farmers rule the world!
I can’t wait to start growing my own microgreens! I love them. My fav way to eat them is a salad of mixed microgreens with some lime juice squirted and a sprinkle of salt. So yummy 😋😋😋
I do have a question when you are selling let’s say at farmers markets are there in your shop; do you offer pamphlets or flyers on the varieties or recipes? I can imagine folks not knowing what to do with the greens other than throw them in a salad. That’s why I ask.
Thats a great thought. I don't currently have anything like that but i'm sure it would definitely help my business. I highly suggest this even though I haven't done it. The more your customers can eat, the more you can sell!
Just harvested my first variety. the sunflower! It’s soooo good. Thanks Donny! You made this possible.
I am new to microgreens and was trying to grow black eye peas and mustard seeds with no luck, I agree that the 4 you mentioned are the easiest to grow I will stick with these for now thanks you
Donny you, pal, are THE best! You are like my MG 101 professor. Im experimenting in India at home in Delhi. And keep coming to your videos
Hahaha much love 🌱💚
Dear Donny this is all BRAND NEW to me and I thank you so much for your time
Can you add nutrient value for each microgreen variety; pea, amaranth, broccoli...? Those that grow microgreens say how healthy but never give data behind it. How many ounces should we eat a day? Health enthusiasts on UA-cam say we should eat 5oz to 7 oz of mixed greens a day. I would think we would need to eat half that amount if we consumed microgreens.
I want this data too!
We want to see the data!!
Great question ! I can't find this data either and would be interesting, especially for selling !
Eat til you’re full. Fruit is the no1 food for humans, we aren’t omnivores but these are a close second as they shouldn’t be anywhere near as heavy on digestion as a fully grown veg.
@@cynthiaverreault6159 As I supply Foodbanks with mics for free, I don't care.

Hello, I am the beginner of growing microgreens from India.. I started with green gram last week nd horsegram in this week. Thanks a lot for your useful ideas.
I just started a few months ago. I'm just a hobbyist in a small household.
At the moment, my 4 most common sprouts/greens are:
Mung Bean Sprouts
Broccoli Sprouts
Radish Sprouts
Pea shoots
I'm looking forward to adding Parsley, Kohlrabi, and Sunflower, and soon as I csn buy and setup a rack with grow lights.
Hey Man, Im planning to start growing microgreens. I think your videos are great, well detailed and informative. Good job thank you for your help :)
Thanks for watching and your kind words! I'm pumped for you to start! Are you planning on growing for personal use or as a business?
Donny Greens Im planning to make a business in Spain but I will start small. Keep up with the inspiring videos 😊

Just ordered my first kit and I’m going to grow broccoli first! Love your content.
Hey Donny! I started my second 10×20 tray about 6 days ago and I'm using black oil sunflower seeds. Only catch is I'm trying it with birdseed from Walmart. Nothing against the food grade, I just wanted to be sure my setting would suffice the healthy growth before investing in high quality seeds
I did the same thing with a sack of black oil sunflower 'bird seed' I have grown 5 trays so far and they have turned out great. When I am more skilled I will compare bird seed to expensive high quality seeds
@@LloydBarrywebdesign I've done both. The bird seed have a much lower germination rate but the taste is identical to the high grade seeds. Personally I didn't feed them to anyone but myself. I didn't wanna make anyone sick and tbh I didn't ever get sick and they tasted great
I grow Radish (“Ruby stem” pink stem like China rose, “Triton” purple stem and “Red” which has dark purple leaves like Rambo radish)
I also grow Peas (“Speckled” the “green” and “yellow” ones grow way slower and shorter) and I grow Sunflower same variety as you black oilseed, do you put plastic over the sunflowers to moisten the shells? I have grow space for 36 trays indoor over the winter and 150-200 in the summer (outdoor)
Wow thats a lot of space! 150-200 trays would be a ton of food haaha. I'm currently doing 132 trays/week. For the sunflowers I don't put anything over them. What I do instead is I top water so the seeds get wet and then I brush them with my hands each day to physically knock most of the seeds off. What have you been doing to get the seeds off? You put plastic over them?
Hi. I have practiced growing over 15 varieties and have a decent system down pat. My challenge is getting them SOLD 😳
Selling can be challenging. Farmers markets are a great place to start and convert customers to weekly home delivery. Restaurants, health food stores, distributors, there are so many opportunities for these little crops 🌱🚀
Hi again Donny, i forgot to ask you what type of lights are you using and for how long they run a day. Thanks again i'm watching all you videos..
Hey, thanks for watching! You can always see the supplies and equipment I use in the description of my videos, including my lights. I leave them on for 15 hours/day
First tray was sweet corn and popcorn. ( very sweet ) Second tray has been several sunflower trays (delicious). Starting black eye peas and I already know I’m gonna love em
Thanks for this!
No problem! Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Ray mak? For those who don’t know this dude comments on almost al vids on UA-cam. Didnt know he liked gardening unless he commented for the clout lol. Cool though
Dear Donny, thank you for all your useful content. You seem genuine and successful and like you once were, i’m starting out and want to move into the commercial sector. Your videos have been really very useful, insightful and generous. Thank you.
I was going to begging my first grow with Chinese Cabbage (michihili), Pak Choi, Pak Choi (white stem) and wild rocket. Any tips or suggestions would be welcome, thank you in advance.
I'm beginning with radishes (China Rose) and Broccoli.
started with radish and it was sooo easy.. thank you for your videos, so helpful!
Yay!! Thanks for your comment! You are very welcome, I will keep them coming since they are helping 🌱💚 What radish variety did you decide to grow?
Broccoli, radish, peas, wheatgrass. Pretty straightforward!
Awesome, great choices!
I enjoy your videos. Thank you. I started with: Broccoli, Alfalfa, Carrot, Arugula, Mustard mixs, then I added Sunflower, Radishes, peas, and beans.
Awesome! and thank you!
I originally thought you could cut them down and they would continue to regrow
Just learned that every time you cut they don't produce the same
Yes. replant each time!
Hey donny i m from india.. i are really curious abut growing microgreens. And i so happy that i stumbled upon this special channel .. the content is so amazing. I do have many questions.. will surely join the Facebook community! ❤️
Hey! Thanks so much for you comment, I'm glad my videos are helpful and I look forward to a wonderful new addition to the Facebook community 🌱💚
Brown Mustard were my first micros to grow. Still one of my favorite! I hate the way eggs taste so i mix them in with my eggs everyday. Its one of the easiest meals to digest and nutritious!
I'm trying to start with cress (for egg salad) and wasabi. I'm also interested in sunflower and pea, but looks like a lot more work.
I’m growing radish and spicy salad mix. Just started my basil g. It’s in the germination stage
Thanks so much for your clear and informative videos. I am just learning about micro greens. I just bought a juicer, going to be giving up meat pretty soon. I want to grow micro greens at home on my patio to save $. You rock!
Awesome Terri, thanks so much for leaving this comment, I'm so looking forward to seeing you progress your health and save some $$ too!
Thank you Donny. Fine videos. It's heartening to see a young man succeeding by helping. Its imperative that we all begin to grow our own food. I started with Salad Mix from True Leaf Market. I bought their starter kit which has everything in it and some varieties to try. It's still a hobby for me after a year but fun to share the fruits with others.
Awesome! Thanks so much for your kind words. I also feel it is SO SO important to be growing at least SOME of our own food at home. With sprouts and microgreens being so simple to grow, there are no excuses! So glad you be friends with another fellow grower, much love 🌱💚
Ive grown chia regularly (and something else ive forgotten). Will give these a try
awesome!
Just got the True Leaf Market starter pack and planted a tray of cilantro
Best success for me has been snap
Peas! Want to do radish that you mentioned! Sounds great 👍 Kristy in Missouri 😃
Much love, thanks for the comment! 🌱🚀💚

Thank you for making this video, it helped me in my project.
Thank you so much for reaching out and letting me know it means the world to me! 🌱💚 i’m so glad it helped you to get started! Are you starting a personal project or business project?
Thanks for sharing!!! I’ve started with the True Leaf salad mix, their broccoli (my fav!) and carrots (my first round grew mold, but I changed things up and am hoping to avoid mold now). I am hoping to try beets, pea, and sunflower, but I live alone and there’s only so many I can eat haha.
Haha thats awesome Samantha! I love the broccoli too, but the salad mix is "growing" on me. Glad you were able to solve the mold problem, you must be a natural grower!
Pea, radish china rose, sunflowers black oil, cabbage, broccoli.
niceee awesome varieties
Hi! Great video, just one question do you have some kind of cheat sheet for those? I mean like how much weight worth of seeds do you use per tray, how much water to spray them over with, how long to keep the trays stacked for each variety? Thank you :)
I don't have this but that is actually a great idea! I'll have to put something together. I see Instagram being a better platform for posting that type of information so definitely follow me on there and await the post! 🌱💚
I have this same exact question about the cheat sheet. I've started to grow Peas Broccoli and Radish myself. I have a good idea about the Peas and the Radish from Nates Microgreens course. But the Broccoli is leaving me with some questions. I do not have social media except for UA-cam. Where else besides Instagram could I get some info about Broccoli? Thanks Donny your videos inspired me to start growing microgreens in the first place. Thank you!

Sunflower and Spicy Salad mix!
Nice!! My customers love those two!
1. Black oil Sunflower- they refuse to not grow
2. Chia- just to see if I could. It grew, ALOT. I was happy lol.
Haha thats awesome! Glad to hear you got started!
Do you always buy the seeds or do you also let plants grow and then collect seeds?
Those radish are fire, I’d definitely start with those
Love the radish, nice and spicy and they look so awesome
Donny Greens pretty sure you have me some when I was living in Huntington before I left, they were definitely my favorite

@@DonnyGreens hi donny diego here. New to all this. Thanks for your teachings. Question: where do i get the non gmo organic seeds for good price on those 4 varieties??? Also.. about the lighting.. i look at city-hydro in baltimore he has been growing for 6 or 7 yrs... uses coconut coir ... other medium but my issue is he recommends led lights with 5000 or 5500 k where do i get those? Can you help me with that??? And about the trays ... where can i buy them that are food safe??
Hi Donny. Love your videos. They have helped a lot. I do live in a semi-arid area so thinking I may need to mist or water 2x day on extra warm days. Do you find that to be true for your crops some days? Also as far as dun peas go, do you grow them hydroponically ? I seem to be finding more videos for growing them that way. Any guidance would be much appreciated.
First time grower. What tips do you have or do you have a checklist of things to purchase to start growing ?
Started with fenugreek 2 days ago.
Awesome! Very excited for you. The first grows are so magical :)
Started my first tray today, radishes, next up will be sunflowers and then cress.
Bo yah! congrats!! big step 🌱🌱
I've just started my microgreens business, kind of difficult in Ontario where they have us all locked up!! I am growing sunnies, green pea, ruby stem radish, broccoli and arugula. So far so good. It seems my greens are shorter than yours, I think it must be the temperature of the grow room. Mine is a little on the cool side between 69-71. Thanks for the awesome vids. Sunnies are my favourite so far. Arugula yuck! But I.m sure it's good in a salad or something?
Hi Brenda do you still sell in Ontario?
Starting up my own micro green op very soon ontario also
i'm a dumpea enthusiast as well
I feel awesome for finding your channel. Thanks for the awesome content on micro greens . Signed a happy new subscriber

Very professionally made video with condensed precise info thank you!
Starting out with Radish (Daikon), I just took the cover off of to check on their germination and they are doing great! Alot of root hairs!

I heard bigger seeds like pea or sunflower do not grow well on hydro grow mats like hemp or coconut mats, is this true? I would like to grow in soil but my sensitive small grow space isn't ideal for it.
Thank your for the video.
Thanks for your comment!

My first one will be WATERCRESS i dont get how i have not seen a single video on watercress microgreen yet. Next one is radish purple sango 💪💪🌿🌿
niceee watercress isnt super popular. purple radish sure is though
green grams and fenugreek is what i started with :)

Yes very busy year unfolding for you, and just like your micro greens its growth. I started with broccoli, tried sun flower mixed results actully I had better luck with what they sell for bird seed. Do you ever grow red beets?? also have you ever watched " The science of getting rich" on yutube, some good nuggets in there? peas are definitely super easy...cool video thanks man!
Hi Donny! Gearing up to jump in head first into growing microgreens and wanted to know the best width lights to use on the standard 48" racks? They come in several widths, but idk the optimal length if 4 trays are on each rack level. Thanks for the informative videos!!
I started with sunflower, broccoli, mizuno mustard, speckled pea and cilantro. The sunflowers are ready today and look very nice but I just used my bird seed to experiment with. Now I need to buy better seeds online. Who do you suggest and who should I buy my trays from. I'd like more heavy duty trays that last any suggestions?
Yes! Definitely buy the same trays I use. There is a link in the description of this video. Additionally, I will be releasing a video on sunflower seeds in two weeks that you will love!
hi! im here to learn for myself but can see how this would benefit my community :)
Awesome, love it! Best place to get started is: OneTrayAway.com
Hi Donny, Just found your channel, thank you for the great microgreen education. I just learned about the 4 varieties you grow, the names of the radish and sunflower. What is the name of the pea and brocoli seeds that you suggest & may I get the link of the seed company you suggest? I am hoping that you have an affiliate link available. Thank you. Bill
Hey Bill!! I typically use TrueLeafMarket for my seeds. The broccoli is Waltham 29 and the peas are speckled pea. Dun pea is also similar. I hope this helps!
Great video. Straightforward & informative. What would be a good resource to find more info on the nutritional profile of Microgreens?
Thanks so much for the feedback! I try to be efficient as possible so I don’t waste people’s time. To find info on nutritional profiles, I would first use googles to see what you can find. Hippocrates Health Institute is a great resource and has tons of this information, so go dig around their site and content. Another great resource is Dr. Rhonda Patrick is another fantastic resource for this type of information and she also digs deep on broccoli microgreens and the health benefits of sulforaphane. I see your name is 631 Care... are you from Long Island?!
Thanks for the info !
Donny, is this one of those things that sounds too good to be true? Thank you for sharing 🤗
You are very welcome, im happy to share! Definitely not too good to be true, im living it!
I'm starting Wednesday and I'm trying two different salad mixes.
Keep up the good work..
Thanks so much! Are you a farming hitman?
Red Russian kale was the first one I started with
nice, ive never grown kale actually!! Only as a full vegetable
I used to grow sunflowers but the hulls of the seeds are too annoying for me. Kudos to you! You should try arugula microgreens, easy to grow, powerful peppery flavor. Everybody I've given samples too loves them. 18g seed/ 10x20 avg 6oz yield/10x20.
10 DTM !
Yeah sunflowers are a pain but well worth it for my business. I find soaking for only 4 hours and making sure to brush the top of the plants with my hands each day to knock the hulls is a tremendous help. Arugula are awesome, I grew a few trays when I first started but I found that they were a bit tricky to grow, especially because they stay so small! Do yours get tall like the other microgreens?
@@DonnyGreens They are definitely not as tall as radish or sunnies, but 3 days stacked and 2 days in blackout get them to about 1.5 inches. If they get much taller than that they tend to fall over easily. I use electric shearers to make quick work of the harvest. I will tag you on insta in a video I made about harvesting.
Thanks for the tag, they look amazing. The shears you use look super cool too but im still not sold on them haha. I like my simple harvesting knife. Actually, next weeks video is about harvesting with a knife! how funny!
@@DonnyGreens looking forward to seeing how you work your magic
I'm likely going to start ot w/ a pre-mixed combo of: Italian Large Leaf Basil, Genovese Basil, Lemon Basil, Opal Basil, Lettuce Mix (20 Varieties), Arugula/Rocket, Dill Dukat, Dill Mammoth, Pak Choi, Daikon, Chervil, Marjoram, Radish China Rose, Parsley Dark Green Italian, Mustard Komatsuna, Mustard Southern Giant, Mustard Florida Broad Leaf, Mustard Tatsoi, Mustard Wasabi, Celery Nan Ling, Celery Utah Broccoli Raab Spring Rapini, Broccoli Raab Early Pugliesi, Broccoli Di Cicco, Turnip Purple Top White Globe, Turnip Amber Globe, Turnip Seven Top, Curled Cress, Pepper Cress, Beet Detroit Dark Red, Beet Early Wonder, Cabbage Red, Tokyo Bekana, Kohlrabi Purple Vienna, Collard Georgia, Collard Vates, Clover, Blue Curled Scotch / Vates Kale, Kale Russian
Mainly, just because it sounded good and was a great variety at a great $... but going w/ your suggestions shortly after, but adding Sesame, #117 Shirogoma and going w/ Green Arrow peas instead of your suggested pea which I did not find. Alo a different radish variety... I think is similar in that it has the red/pink stem w/ green leaves and I like a slightly floral taste which it's supposed to have.
But this is my 1st go at microgreens so probably gonna stumble some.
Just doing for my use.
wow
Good channel, thanks for the helpful information
Thanks for watching!
Do you have a preference to either the large seed or small seed for your black oil sunflowers?
just starting
I'm going to try what you suggest. Thank you for sharing.
no problem! 🌱💚
Hello All, Question please, Which greens to grow in a warm tropical environment? Thanks in advance.
Thanks. I started watching you bcoz my wheatgrass started developing mold. I wud love to grow micro greens but I live in a flat. Wud u recommend a micro green grower? That isa term from my vocabulary. But is there anything where the greens are not affected by heat, humidity or pollution?
Not sure what you are really asking here but wheatgrass will grow better in a little bit of a cooler environment. Take them out of germination as early as possible too
2 sites - Hoss tools and True Leaf market both have microgreen growers with the grow light in them.
Sun Flower
Donny, can you PLEASE lead me to the research that shows microgreens being 40x as nutrient-dense as the full grown plant? I can’t find any scientific data on this.
Hi , Do we need Seedling heat mat to grow microgreens ?
No you do not. I have never used one.
First microgreens I grew was broccoli in large mason jars.
Those are sprouts!!
Where can i get seeds in balk in kg? I have seen in your videos thats you buy in bulk. Please share. Much help
