20yr old from Ohio, I’m starting up a microgreens business of my own. I did it in my basement just to try it over the winter, and have now moved into a larger and higher quality space to grow. I have 3 racks loaded with trays and everything set up including climate control. Your videos have helped me get to this point so far and I’m loving your content!!
@@MTHPowerWash Central, I got a little too busy with Powerwashing and decided to get out of it. Not worth the time and energy if you’re not in the right areas. It’s all about having a good target market demographic.
I would like to take advantage of this opportunity. I am semi-retired at 71. Just last month I started a worm farm for composting and selling worm tea at flea markets. Learning what to feed the worms, I found that wheatgrass was an excellent choice and easy to grow. From there I discovered microgreens. I believe that these two new adventures could work well together. Using worm castings for the microgreens and then placing the waste back into worm bins for the worms to eat the beneficial roots and recycle the castings.
Yes absolutely you could give the spent mats to the worms and they will eat them up! Im going to add a ton of worms this spring to where im dumping the mats. Pumped to hear what you’re up to! I also think the micros will be a great addition at the flea markets. You can sell them along with your worm tea 🌱🌱 id love to guide you in your microgreens journey, check out my challenge here to get started: onetrayaway.com/
I love th this story! My daughter and I ran a bike powered compost collection service for several years and we love juicing and raw foods now I live in farm country but it's also a food desert in that there's no organic food around here so for me to get food that I want to eat I have to drive miles and miles. I think I'll start growing at home for myself and keep the entrepreneurial temptation open.
Hi Harold. I read your comment and wanted to say I'm glad you have found enjoyment and fulfillment in your retirement. About your question regarding worm castings being used in your microgreens. There was a bit to "unpack" in regards to what you said. Basically worm casting would be in my opinion a bad idea. For one you could very unnecessarily transfer microbes or bacteria to your greens. Secondly microgreens do not need a nutrients source to grow or germinate. If you did manage to make this happen, I am happy for you. Journey well sir.
Grow This is My Dream! I am so tired of going to my day to day job and not being fulfilled! I want to enjoy doing what I am doing and help others while I do it!

I love that you mentioned, Gary V in your video! I am a 47 year old real estate agent wanting out of the business and Gary V is who convinced me that I’m not too old to start something new. Love this video so much! Great info all the way through.
I found it hard to sell them. I'm pivoting to herbs. The window for sales of microgreens is narrow. With herbs, you can also sell them dried. I grow some microgreens for my own use and to give. But if we see a big problem with the food supply I may ramp up again.
No one knew what they were in my area when I started growing them three years ago. The farmers market was the perfect place to explain the value to customers. I have since branched out to health food stores and a home delivery service as well as coming shortly to a second farmers market.
I am from Colombia, and the market for this type of cultivation is still in its early stages here. It is not easy to find the necessary materials, such as suitable irrigation trays and grow lights. Two years ago, as part of my thesis, I developed a technology for growing plants indoors, with the aim of implementing it later. Currently, I have a seedling production business in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, with 11 shelves in a warehouse. In addition, I am starting to venture into the production of microgreens. My system is still somewhat artisanal, but I am excited about the possibility of learning from the improvements that have already been achieved in other places.
I am love that my favorite content creator was used to make a point about clean eating Gary is the man and he always is on point with market trends. Hi Donny - I am an avid gardener with quite a bit of success and experience in this niche, in addition to canning and preserving. I have been researching business opportunities that, and I found your website. I have heard of microgreens before, but really didn't put two-and-two together until now. I do know a bit about running a business online, so why not put my gardening skills into microgreens and go from there? I am ready to get started.
Grow! I've failed at trying to start other businesses, mainly due to lack of money or time. But no more excuses this time. I want to start 2024 right. This seems like the best way to start something that can help others while supporting my family. How do I get started?
The key to starting this business is microgreens needs to be viewed as just entrance point to clean eating marketplace. It will become saturated and margins will shrink. You need to be able to produce or resell other foods to stay viable long term. Imagine who your customer will be and grow products that person will consume in all setting (breakfast, lunch, dinner, night out, parties, training periods). I am not even a great healthy eatier myself but everywhere I look you can see a change is underway and I plan on being imbedded with it.
I live in a very rural area. They sell as fast as you can educate truly. I find other microgreen competitors help everyone because awareness is everything.
Great video. I'm currently starting my very first trays with my kids. If it goes well, i'd like to expand and sell at local farmers markets and restaurants.
Grow! This has intrigued me for quite some time now, and I've seen many of your videos before. As spring is gearing up and I'm looking to start my garen, I am definitley looking to start some microgreens! Would love to turn it into a business! :)
Thanks Donny! I am on my 3rd trial of growing but definitely need help! I am starting shift work for seasonal harvesting in a few days, 12 hrs days, 7 days a week. I will do your course when the season is over and I have time to invest in it! I look forward to doing it! 😁 I need the help 🤣
Food is always going to be a good business if your product is good. People need to eat. I'm from another country and the trend is barely creating now, they just started appearing in shops and fine dining locations. I'm interested in some specific numbers of investments like, how much would it cost to set up let's say a garage of 20sqm ~ 60sqft and how much would you be able to to produce in there.
Let’s do this!! I spent $5,000 on top of the line grow equipment for cannabis and the market dropped… what do I do with all this grow stuff. HEEEEELP!!! And I can grow
Grow! I’m looking to move back to the U.S. this September and want a more independent financial status. If I can provide quality fresh food to my community while doing it, I’d be very enthusiastic to do so! Shout out from Pucallpa, Peru! (Love the jungle)

@@DonnyGreens no. Only microgreens cuz they’re so easy. Why wouldn’t everyone who eats them want to grow them? Am I naive? Idk. Sorry if I’m thinking of this in a stupid way, but I’m still wondering who wouldn’t grow their own.
No, people are busy, lazy, and dont want to bother growing their own microgreens. Many people are happy to purchase from their local farmer. A very small percentage of people are willing to grow their own food

Hey there! I was wondering if you could share a bit about the process of getting the necessary licenses and certifications for food production. Also, could you give me an idea of how much time, money, and effort it takes to secure all the required permits? I'm really curious about this aspect. Thanks a lot for your insights!
I think it can be useful, especially for a very large farm. I dont use automatic watering because it hasnt become too big of a pain-point to force me to switch over. It takes me about 10 minutes to water my farm. Not too shabby
Have you ever tested nutritional content of soil grown vs inside with synthetic lights? Idk the answer but I grew wheatgrass in college in 2020 outside and it was better than any wheatgrass I got anywhere else when it started getting popular

Im curious about the one trey away challenge. Im all the way in and already beginning to grow. And very interested in the value of the offer. Is the price of admission same in CAD$ or does the exchange rate make it more?
The price is in USD so when you pay from Canada, you would pay in USD. I suppose that means its an exchange? When you are checking out on the page, it will be clear. I have many challengers from Canada in the program. I hope to see you in the next challenge!
Grow , I am in the process in building a green house that I got at a very cheep price. I want to start a nursery on my property. Also I want to start a micro green business.

Grow: hi again. So I sold micros to a local grocery store for about a year before Covid. Then Covid shut everything down. I had a system down pretty well. But I would LOVE to learn about your techniques, your suppliers, etc. I had two Home Depot racks going; so that would be 32 trays total max capacity. I had a full-time software engineer day job so hunting for prospects was almost impossible. Seriously thinking about doing this full-time. Would love to learn how to develop an automated watering system. Would love to participate in your one tray away approach.
Yes i would love to have you in the next one tray away challenge!! registration opens in a few days on march 11th. Im sure that will help you get started and answer all your questions! My business thrived during covid because my business model focuses mostly on home deliveries
I can only ship to North America. All the info is on the web page at onetrayaway.com/. My abroad students typically source their own supplies but I have shipped abroad for a few students who wanted to pay extra.
I'm finding out about clean meats grown in a regenerative way . One of my favorite meals is a grass fed steak with pea micros garnishing the top of it in a classy Oregon coastal restaurant. Microgreens simply are not known about yet . Sourced restaurants are just beginning like micros.
@DonnyGreens What is the best research source you have found on microgreens? I'm looking to do research on the comparison of microgreens to their fully grown version. Some people have reactions fully grown plants self defense properties. I truly believe micros are far more biologically available than fully grown plants. A little science to back this theory up would go a long way. I am hoping to present a speech to my Toastmasters group on this subject to prepare the way to promoting what we know tastes and feels amazing. Any references or links will be truly appreciated.
@DonnyGreens Thank you , I will look her up . What I have found out so far is microgreens have very low levels of oxalic acid compared to full grown vegetable counterparts. Oxalic acid is an anti nutrient that prevents the uptake of the benefits of full grown vegetables . This is the plants natural defense from being eaten as it makes the next generation Microgreens really are superior in bioavailable nutrients.

Me and My Daughter are thinking about starting a micro green business in 2024.
My oldest son had started a micro green business a couple years back and did fairly well until him and his wife just got busy with kids and work and had to shut it down so I believe he still has the racks trays and possibly the lights that me and his sister My Daughter Are planning to start our business with just wanted info you could possibly lend. Thank you.
(Grow)

Hi! Do you think I can grow the microgreens in my garage? Thanks!
I spend a lot on micros I just purchase stuff to grow my own. I’m excited!
Awesome!! Thats definitely the way to go
You said in another comment thread you sell subscription based. Curious what type of CRM you use to track sales and invoicing
I currently use Markate for my business but it’s very bland in terms of options
I don’t understand who the customers are. Wouldn’t everybody just grow them themselves? Who would buy them?
You think everyone is willing to start growing their own food ???
@@DonnyGreens no. Only microgreens cuz they’re so easy. Why wouldn’t everyone who eats them want to grow them? Am I naive? Idk. Sorry if I’m thinking of this in a stupid way, but I’m still wondering who wouldn’t grow their own.
No, people are busy, lazy, and dont want to bother growing their own microgreens. Many people are happy to purchase from their local farmer. A very small percentage of people are willing to grow their own food
@@DonnyGreens well, now it does make sense when you put it that way. 🤔 this is making me want to sell microgreens now. Thank you.
awesome!!!
This is amazing! Thank you.
No problem!

What is the smallest scale I could start with and still be worth my time/be able to slightly profit? Also will this work during the winter in WI?
I'm commenting GROW! Because you told me to. I have recently begun my learning journey into growing these little beauties but I still would love the help to get started with it as a business
awesome super pumped for you. Its a great business model and also very fulfilling!
Hey there! I was wondering if you could share a bit about the process of getting the necessary licenses and certifications for food production. Also, could you give me an idea of how much time, money, and effort it takes to secure all the required permits? I'm really curious about this aspect. Thanks a lot for your insights!
you can contact your local department of agriculture
I am a little surprised you still haven't automated watering. I would love to see an updated 2024 video on where you stand on this from profit/value.
Idk the answer but I grew wheatgrass in college in 2020 outside and it was better than any wheatgrass I got anywhere else when it started getting popular
how do I research if my market is saturated or not?
Let’s grow micro greens
I have purchased my supplies. I will start planting seeds soon. Don’t know how to market them yet.
woop woop! have you joined my challenge! We can learn all that in there!! onetrayaway.com/ check it out!

Since you explain the process and equipment so well I only have one question.
Is the water you use chlorinated? I wonder if filtered regular tap water is good enough.
Sorry if you have already answered this question.
Thank you
Yes, you can use just plain tap water but filtering the water is even better!! Id love to have you in my next challenge if you were interested. I could really dive deep with ya. Check it out here: onetrayaway.com
I'm really hoping to Grow and learn about this new opportunity with micro greens
Awesome!! Definitely join the challenge at onetrayaway.com/ !!!

Hello, what documents or permit are needed to open this business in USA? Thankyou
Interesting business definitely something to look into GROW
Lets get you growing!! Join the challenge at onetrayaway.com/ 🌱🚀
GROW!🌱💚
which micro green shouyld be sold?? like whose seed should I grow and start selling?(please tell all the microgreen)
watch my other videos on the best commercial microgreens
What growing medium are you currently using? I don’t see it linked in the show notes.
Promix MP Organik
Great video bud!
thanks Dave!!
Talk to me about zoning. Do we need special zoning to begin?
hey i want to start to grow microgreens, where can i found the seeds, and can i produce them too?
You can find links to all the seeds, supplies and equipment I use in the descriptions of my UA-cam videos!
If I sign up for the challenge do all the supplies ship to Czechia? Is there additional costs?
I can only ship to North America. All the info is on the web page at onetrayaway.com/. My abroad students typically source their own supplies but I have shipped abroad for a few students who wanted to pay extra.
I'm finding out about clean meats grown in a regenerative way . One of my favorite meals is a grass fed steak with pea micros garnishing the top of it in a classy Oregon coastal restaurant. Microgreens simply are not known about yet . Sourced restaurants are just beginning like micros.
Exactly!! its just the beginning my friend!! best time to be getting into microgreens woop woop!
Dr Rhonda Patrick has done a lot of work specifically with the broccoli ones and their sulforaphane content. maybe start there!
@DonnyGreens Thank you , I will look her up . What I have found out so far is microgreens have very low levels of oxalic acid compared to full grown vegetable counterparts. Oxalic acid is an anti nutrient that prevents the uptake of the benefits of full grown vegetables . This is the plants natural defense from being eaten as it makes the next generation
Microgreens really are superior in bioavailable nutrients.
yes they really are!!
