What is your favorite part of the growing process!? Mine is probably traymaking :)
Mine is watering
Harvesting!
Probably pulling them out of germination! It's like the big reveal to see if they've started growing well!
Learning
I thought you were shroud at first, and I was happy he got into a healthy hobby. Haha
Donny, my son is growing on a large scale in NC and he learned everything from you. He bought me a small J&C mini farm and taught me how to grow broccoli greens in my kitchen in Florida! I love this as a hobby and I'm getting healthier and happier because of you. Thank you!
Wow Shay thats so totally awesome. Thanks so much for letting me know it this comment. The joy news like this brings me is unimaginable. Thank you for being a supportive mother, your son is very lucky 🌱💚
Dude! I’ve been doing this for 4 years. Awesome summary. I pretty much agree with everything you said minus across the globe. It’s a plane.
Much love, where are you growing!? I'm in NY on this side of the "plane"
@@DonnyGreens Colorado here. You were a big influence on me back in the day. Thank you! I continue to pass on the knowledge.
I do grow my sunnies and peas no medium, but they do amazingly well. Any of my “not perfect” crops go to my chickens. I’ve had to over grow, bc my techniques have been refined. The girls demand it now, plus their eggs are SO good!

I'm looking into doing this in Los Angeles. I have like 15+ years of growing and hydro experience, but I'm just getting into Microgreens. Right now, I'm growing 4 trays of Broccoli on a shelf. Each tray is a different experiment. 6 days in, and they look beautiful, but I think I put too many seeds. I'm thinking of starting with broccoli, peas, and radish. It was one of Donny's videos that inspired me to look into it, thank you.
Awesome so glad to hear you have started growing. If you want to really dive in and master it, i'd love to have you in my next challenge starting July 1st! Check it out at onetrayaway.com
I am on the cusp of doing this for real finally... Thank you for the virtual hand holding Donny.
awesome Wes, lets get you growing!! Join the next challenge here bro, would love to see you in there getting the support you need onetrayaway.com/

Really appreciate your clear and concise videos. You obviously know your stuff, and it’s generous of you to pass on your knowledge. Many thanks.

Donald! Pretty sure we were in religion class together growing up in Huntington! I'm teaching sustainability, Composting, and gardening in Colorado these days. This video popped up, and I thought you looked so familiar. It's awesome to see what you're doing and great to hear that work like this is happening on LI. Small world!
hahah EPICC!! I was totally doing religion at your house, how funny!! Love what you are up to, thats what its all about! We have some property now so we're starting to plant outside and compost and all that. Let's definitely link up next time you're on Long Island!! Hope you and your family are well 🌱💚
Heck yeah I love all this info! Thanks Donny
No problem! Glad you're liking it

Love this channel! I have been growing microgreens, for my own consumption, and I learned several tricks of the trade with this video! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome, glad you liked it!
Thanks, I'm just a hobbyist and I've watched hours of videos on Microgreens. Most are very good but seriously this is singularly the best video of them all.
Haha sweet thank you!! Glad you liked it
Have seen you in another video. Bought 4 mid sized trays and seeded 4 diffrent types of sprouts. Just to get a feel for it and if I indeed have a green thumb or not. Haha. Thank you so much for bringing this into my awareness. I have never thought about this kind of stuff before, ever in my life. This seems amazing. Heathy. And maybe, who knows, if someone turns out to be interested in Sprouts without any chemicals... We'll see. Thank you. Much, much love.
Thanks for the information

hahaha you're awesome
This is the first time I've heard you address blackout. I've been watching a lot of your videos and you're, by far, my favorite. I've been wanting to do this for longer than you've been doing it. I'm finally pulling the trigger and starting my first rack and 10 trays in about a month.
To add, I'm going to start with Rambo radish and broccoli. Going to ease into sunflowers. Also, I'm in upstate NY. Near Lake Ontario.
Hell yeah get growing!! Much love 🌱💚
Nice, ive been in NY my whole life, huntington -> cuse. great varieties to start with
In about 20 minutes out from Syracuse. Near Oswego
Albany ny here, watched your entire catalog , starting with two treys to make sure I can i this, once I’m confident I’m hoping to get out there and start selling and expanding !
Awesome thanks
no problem!
i enjoy your videos very informative
Thanks for that! Glad you like them!
Thanks alot . God Bless

Yeah month 2 and black out phased out entirely now. Man tried watering coco before seeding and agree it makes it harder to evenly seed. Thanks for solid good advice as always
You are very welcome!
You ROCK!
I'm starting to grow because of you Donny, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESOURCES. Not only is it fun but I'm trying to setup a stand to start selling my greens next to the farmers market so I can sell directly to consumer. :) Your videos are straight forward and helpful. Got any tips/advice for new comers to the field ?
they wont let u on the market?
you are very welcome. keep on growing and learning and if you want some extra info to dive into working directly with me, take my challenge!! www.onetrayaway.com/

Hey brother... the trays you suggest are amazing! Mine just showed up from Bootstrap Farmer and they're way thicker and sturdier than I expected. I want to get in to the business, while also eating better. Have some wheatgrass going in the cheap trays. Peas, Black Sunflower, and Salad Mix will go in the new ones. Appreciate all your advice in the videos!
woop woop good work randy!!! keep it up!!
Loving the quality of your videos - your effort and experience shows. Ive got a quick question as a new viewer, do you have any resources on, ironically, where to find resources on compliance with local/national food/agriculture standards?
Thanks so much!! I always recommend reaching out to your local department of agriculture to see what they require
I was growing other stuff😂but u jus put me own im gonna start growing micro greens today i jus order 10 trays i already got 2 5 by 5 huge lights so lets see how it goes amazing content
haha awesomee and thank you!! Makin the switch hahah 🌳 -> 🌱
Another excellent video! I agree with not washing but I grow in compost - do the labels have to tell customers to wash before use? With sunflower how do you get the hulls off before packaging?
am living the dream thank u for doing noting
???
Hey great stuff thanks. Excited to start my first 8 tray farm. Quick question, are you using perforated or non perforated trays?
What should I do with the soil and roots after I harvested my microgreens? Thanks for the video
I would suggest you put it aside in a new container. Collect more soil and then feed with worm castings and other microbial life. To be honest it would take a bit to explain now. But essentially for all new growers out here.
Learn about microbes and how soil is alive, you'll be able to keep soil for years and it only gets better in quality if you feed it right.
Book Suggestions: "Teaming with Microbes" and "The Intelligent Gardener"
This was my question too! Thank you for book sudgestions
Shout out from St. Albans, Queens!!!
I’ve watched almost every one of your videos thank you for such great info! One of my only questions at this point is do you use the 2 or 4 foot lights? The link takes me to the 2 foot ones but it looked like you used the 4 foot in the videos. Thanks!
I had the same question 😮
I am wondering if you’re just doing one tray and have a weight on the top of the tray then how do they push up on that weight? How with one weighted tray do you know if they’re ready for the light? Thanks and I love your channel!! Learning a lot!
I just subed and liked. I really love your pace and appreciate the info. I would like to have you on my show sometime as a guest if you are ever interested in talked about sustainability and the business!
Thank you for the video Donny, helpful info! I have question. What should I do with the cut microgreens and the left soil after harvesting? Is it OK if reuse it ? Will the microgreens grow again or shall I start the process again with sowing seeds in a fresh soil? Thanks
I don't have the source on me, but, taken from a paper found on ncbi, the best way to make the porphyrin find in the chlorophyll more bio-available is by ingesting dark leafy greens with a good source of vitamin C. Think of peppers, strawberries etc. The vitamin C binds with the porphyrin making it more readily available for the body to absorb and use it for red blood cell production.
Thanks for the video, I am looking to get started out here in California!
Good work and congratulations on the growth and journey
thanks for the health tip!!! much love
Thank you for your infformative video! Can you tell me what kind of peas are good for pea shoots? I like the larger shoots for stir frying.
dun pea and speckled pea will be good!
Very helpful I'm on day 10 of my 1st 3 trays we tried some tonight, my radish is about 3" tall but week my peas are just now sprouting and my sunflower tray was a little week some look ready to harvest and some are just now germinating , we tasted the sunflower and radish both tasted good but I'm not getting those nice full luscious trays
need good lighting, use the same ones he uses
Hello, thanks for the knowledge!! Just wondering have you measured how much you water the trays? (For both germination and after)
i dont measure, no. experiment and learn!
Love your videos! Wanted to ask if you know about a plastic-free alternative to the seed trays you're using. I'm concerned about microplastic being absorbed by the plants.
I use 99% plant based, biodegradable, compostable packaging.
Thoughts on bottom watering before filling with soil?
Nice and clear explanation. Thank you.
My question is, what do you do with the old soil, and how do you clean the trays for the next batch? Does it need to be sanitized? TIA
I compost the used stuff yeah. I have a video on cleaning and sanitizing trays! Check it out!
I appreciate you for not gate keeping ❤
i share what I can and if people want to dive deeper with me, they can!
Loving these videos. Taking a growing for market course and am thinking about starting a grow with 3-10 racks. How long are your racks and grow lights and what wattage are the grow lights?
Take a peek at his description and the links to products will give you all these answers.
try starting with 1.... You can find links to all the seeds, supplies and equipment I use in the descriptions of my UA-cam videos!

you are welcome!
Hi! Thank you for sharing your passion for microgreens with us! Im wondering if you are soaking the seeds? On my packages it says I should but youtubers seems to just sprinkle them on?
i soak bigger seeds like peas and sunflower
As a new microgreens fan who doesn’t have any idea how to do it, love your instructions. Thank you for sharing! Could you please show us how to grow microgreens parsley? Nooooo idea and desperately need that info. Thxxxx
You are very welcome!! Sorry i dont grow parsley
Hey Donny regarding the lights you use to grow micro greens you have a couple of suggestions in your video’s description. The Sunblaster and the Barrina LED lights. Which one is your top choice ? And how many you per shelf you use? Thank you for all the amazing content
I was wondering the same thing and I do remember him saying what one he liked better and why in one of his other videos.
i use 1-2 per shelf. either of those will work, i use the sunblasters
Love the video and plan on trying for the first time. I am not sure, but does the tray need to have drainage holes? Further in the video you mention bottom watering.
you use both
Im from the UK and microgreens here seem to be much more niche.
I really want to start, but I wouldnt know where to sell other than farmers markets since most people dont know what they are.
Start at farmers markets and recruit people into weekly delivery customers, thats what I did!
Great video you covered so much! I have 2 questions how do you store your micro greens and this one is silly but do you wash your trays after every use?
I sanitize after every use yes, and i store them in a fridge!
Hey Donnie, could you please do a video on how to grow a microgreens tray of cilantro and arugula? Cheers.
yes i should do that asap
comprehensive guide lol ~:) i suppose my first micro green gro was at infant school when we grew watercress and mustard. it was a basic back then :)
little less of a basic time now haha. glad to hear it
YAS, stack em and let em be. I think the key is to pre-moisten the soil...like days in advance in the bin before you use it. Then when you use it, you don't have to water it during germination until you have roots or uncover. Moist, not wet.
I like watering when making the tray better, but thats me!
Do you mind sharing how you get your beautiful labels?
Very informative! Do you reuse the soil after harvesting?
nope, gets composted in the back yard!
Great video.. Once you harvest the greens, do they regrow? Also do you reuse the soil after harvest?
No you use a new fresh growing medium each time. Some regrow like peas and wheatgrass but the quality isnt as good
Question: I'm a full time truck driver. I work about 12-14 hours a day. When I get home I'm usually exhausted and don't have too much time or energy for anything else. How much time and energy per day is required to do this succesfully? Also how many days a week? is this an everyday thing?
Hi man, thanks for all this beautiful info, just a few questions, do you recommend to a customer, to wash the products before eating them or not? And about the trays, it goes with one shallow tray with holes and then the deep one with no holes…?thanks again!
both the trays are shallow. I dont recommend washing, they are inherently very clean, i see no purpose in washing microgreens
Hey Donny, Andrzej here from the UK - loving your videos by the way. Quick question I'm just starting out on my microgreens journey and hoping to turn this into a commercial business at some point - what grow lights would you recommend as the best to use?
You can find links to all the seeds, supplies and equipment I use in the descriptions of my UA-cam videos!
Donny, what do you do with the used soil?
hihi, grettings from Chile. Do you use 2 tray´s? 1 for water and 1 for the crop and soil right? and you do some holes to the trays of soil and crop right?
Are your trays stack on each other? Mine seem to not stack on the plastic but on the micros themselves, will doing so stunt or damage them?
What if you don’t need so much? Or need it more staggered over the weeks? How does the starting and stacking work? For my family and chickens I would only need one tray coming ready for harvest every 2-3 days. How could I plan out starting and stacking to better align with that? Also thank you for such an informative video! It is really helpful in all aspects that I need to think about and learn! ❤
if you need trays every 2-3 days, you would simply start trays every 2-3 days!
What size light do you use??
I have vermicompost, from roughly sieved to finely sieved can i use it
I legit just searched microgreebs seconds before this vid launched. Thanks for the info
Haha awesome!! Love that! No problem, hope it was useful 🌱💚
For lighting, what are your thoughts on UV grow lighting? I currently have a 4-arm set for my indoor seed pods that will soon be transferred to my outdoor garden boxes. Would/could they work for microgreens?
try them out!
Hi Donny was looking for the link where you buy your trays from
Its in the description
Hey, great video! Question... I am interested in the BootStrap Farmer trays WITH holes... do they come with the bottom/tray insert or do I have to buy them separately? If so, which ones do you recommend? Thanks. :)
you buy both. You can find links to all the seeds, supplies and equipment I use in the descriptions of my UA-cam videos!
I don't see a link for the potting mix your use. Thansks!
its in there now!!
This looks exciting. Is your microgreen business done using Hydroponics methods?
technically but i use a potting mix
Hey, Donny. Do you need to sanitize your trays before germination setup? Wondering if this would limit mold groth. Thanks for any advice.

Curious why you linked us to the pinkish barrina lights instead of the white?
they are labelled as full spectrum grow lights, thats all
First we thank you very much and wish you more success and happy life
Second please answer me from wher buy and deliver to tomr the microgreens seeds and all the equipment and soil used to plant microgreens
Much thanks

When stacking trays for germination do trays sit in a total dark? We have a greenhouse to grow our micro greens. So, maybe we do not start germination in the greenhouse. Thanks for your great video. I’ll buy your book, but was too excited to get started.
They sit stacked so yes they are in the dark
what do you do with the grow medium and cut down root systems left in the tray after harvest
i compost in the back yard and then use it for outdoor veg
Donny Green What about Hydroponics would you suggest that?
Try it out and see if it works for you!
Would you happen to have a link for the type of trays you use? I'm confused how you stack them at the beginning without smashing everything?
You can find links to all the seeds, supplies and equipment I use in the descriptions of my UA-cam videos!
Hi Donny! Is your setup in a garage or basement? I'm trying to figure out the best place to have my growing racks. Thanks!
garage AND basement
After cutting, you have a tray with potting mix and the "bottom half" of the greens plants still rooted in that soil. What happens to that? Do you just toss it, and start over with new seeds and new potting mix? Can you "compost" the stuff, so that the little "bottom half" plants die, but the soil is good to plant new seeds in again?
