  • Chrysler Town and Country window regulator replacement. Easy to follow step by step instructions.
    2008-2016 Chrysler Town and Country window regulators are all similar in their design.
    Tools you will need:
    3/8 Drive Ratchet
    10mm Socket
    Torx 25 driver
    Torx 30 3/8 Drive Socket
    Plastic Trim Stick
    Pro tip: The electric motor on the regulator rarely needs to be replaced. To determine if the motor is still good, try rolling the window up and down and listen for the motor to turn off and on. If it makes noise and the window is not rolling up or down, the regulator is broken. If you don't hear anything, further diagnosis is required. Check fuses and the window switch for good power and ground.

    Did this myself took about 3 hours. Struggled with latch wires. Be careful got cut on door metal as it was sharp, watch the mirror wire as it can get in your way when installing the inside plastic and have to be careful about stripping screws in the plastic. Great video

    Thank you for posting this video, it helped me out a lot. Ended up taking me about 3 hours to do this, but most of that time was fiddling with the door panel itself and not the regulator. Also, that last part with the 'use your imagination' was no joke. What a nightmare to get disconnected then reconnected.

    • @NotATechShow
      @NotATechShow  4 роки тому +3

      It all comes down to cost in production. These mechanisms are made pretty cheaply. Plastic pulleys and lift plates, thin metal. That being said, i used to have this special grease when I worked at a dealer to lube the cables. It helped a lot. Also, if yours keeps failing, take a close look at your window run channels. Move your glass up and down by hand to see if there is extra resistance in the window travel that could cause extra stress on the regulator.

    • @jimmannion9698
      @jimmannion9698 4 роки тому

      @@NotATechShow I usually apply a silicone spray to the rails and seals around the door to reduce that resistance. Haven't tried grease on the cables. I'll search for the proper type.

    My regulator now needs replaced. Im chosing dorman brand. I heard my cable making noise so im assuming my motor is still ok. I can hear the motor. I had to use double side tape to keep my window up until i can fix it. I now have to clean the sticky off my window though. I wish i had known a better way to keep the window up without taking anything apart. I'm not a fan of replacing the regulators but it beats paying a mechanic or dealership. Thanks for the video. I will refer back to this video once the part gets here.

    Agreed, great video, but the "use your imagination" push rods are difficult.
    I bought a whole new door panel, and the part which holds the door lock onto the main panel was separated!
    Taking this off makes it easier to reconnect the door lock push rods, as once connected you just clip it back in with some force onto the main panel.
    Also to clip back the window into the white runners, I had the window suction cupped to the top.
    I temporarily reconnected all wiring, and used the window button upwards, which forces the clips up into the window.
    This makes a couple of loud clicks, then its fitted!
    Take photos of door card before dismantling, it will help you refit wiring!
    All sorted and cost me £44 for part bought on Ebay and three hours 👍

    Good video, yet my frustration with the cables continues to prevent me from fixing the door.
    Watched a hundred of these videos and not one has addressed the cables themselves. I ordered a replacement kit, which came with the two rails with the pulley wheels and two cables, each meeting at the motor, one actually is attached to the spool in the motor.
    I hooked those two up as in the video. But what is the third cable running diagonally? Is it attached to the window clips? Does it run over a wheel? What's it for? I did not receive that cable in my order.
    It's the only thing keeping this door laying on plywood on a pair of horses in the shed and not back in my wife's van. If I don't get this fixed soon I may as well put a cot in this shed.
    Thank you.

    Should I grease the cables at all? I replaced my window regulator about 6 months ago or so and this one just broke. I'm not sure if it was just a cheap autozone part or if there was something I needed to do like grease the cables

    • @NotATechShow
      @NotATechShow  3 роки тому +1

      You shouldn’t have to grease the cables on this one. It is not really a stress point. It could be that you got a bad part. Cheap regulators typically don’t last extremely long. Also, you need to check the run channels that the glass rides on. If it is hard to move the glass up and down by hand, you need to either grease the channels with some lithium grease or replace them. If the glass is loose and wobbles in the run channels, replace them.

      Why do they keep breaking only one way to install the regulator could the motor be causing to keep messing up 3rd one just failed after working great for about 6 months this time. Help I've had it with this thing.

    • @NotATechShow
      @NotATechShow  Рік тому

      This is a common issue with plastic pulleys and liftplate assemblies. There are other factors that could be contributing to it but the Motor is likely not the cause. Check to see if your glass slides easily up and down the window track with it detached from the regulator. If it's hard to move or has resistance, you may have a bent window track or your old window seals. Also check to see if the window tips when going up and down Or is loose in the window track. If it wobbles, it will break prematurely.

      If you have already taken the door panel off you can look at the electrical connector to see if it has 2 pins or 6. I think you might be able to also tell if you have basic window up down or if you have auto up and down. More prongs more features? Haha. The easiest way to know which pin configuration your window switch has is primarily based on this:
      6 pin connector is for both front windows with the auto up/down feature.
      2 pin connector does not support this feature.

      I had the same issue but it's really simple once you figure it out. Just pull the yellow and white clips from the rods with your finger or with a screwdriver. To reconnect you'll have to fit the bent top of the rods into their slots then press the clips back on to the rods. The clips can rotate a full 360.

    Here is what I did for the "use your imagination" part and "putting the window back onto the regulator clips":
    "use your imagination" - I left the panel on, stuck my arm through the smaller hole and you can feel a plastic clip holding the rod in at the very top, you can easily slide that clip off towards the right. It just slides off, then the rod will easily slide out of the hole. Same goes for the inner-smaller one. Putting them back on is a little more tricky, but I lined the inner-smaller one first, put the rod in the hole, then slid the plastic clip back on, then did the outer-bigger one last. You do have to use your imagination but once you get one off, its pretty easy to picture it.
    "Window into Regulator Clips" - The window onto the white plastic clips on the regulator was a little more tricky for me. I was worried about breaking the window albeit you need a lot of force for that. Having a screwdriver slip and break the window is very possible as I almost did it taking the window off.
    I hooked up the window switch, powered on the van and rolled the Regulator down about half-way so both clips were easily accessible through each hole in the panel, taped a small knob of electrical tape onto the end of my Flathead screwdriver and pushed the clip back with it, slid the window about half-way in, then did the same thing on the other side. Once both sides were about halfway in, I just pushed down on the window - gently, but firmly - and it slid in with no issues.
    Took me about 1.5 Hours and NAPA had the part in stock, thankfully. I hope this helps someone.

      If the screws holding the tracks start to move, it is only a matter of time before the whole unit fails. Something as simple as a change in temps can wiggle the screws loose. Not to mention slamming the door. In the unit I replaced, the right side screws were both loose. To the point, I removed them with my hand. These are structural screws holding the tracks and the window. terrible design.
