    All the vids related to window regulator repair are awesome. I also was challenged by the regulator repair when it came to the last spooling wind. I tried to do it by myself, then with my wife's extra hands, then with a friend of mine. We were completely stumped and my friend insisted there wasn't enough cable length to make the final turn. I was pretty sure that was not the case but was unable to figure out how to do it.
    Several times over a couple of days I was about to give up. The video goes quickly on this step and skips from start to finish. I watched the video numerous times, looking for something I missed. Finally, I noticed the blue spring holder were not installed *until* an initial partial turn around the spool was made. Using the help of my friend's hands and two screwdrivers, I used a small screwdriver to make a turn to about the 50% point around the spool and then locked it down with a slightly larger screwdriver. While I was holding the screwdriver to prevent the cable from unwinding, my friend compressed the springs and was able to install the two blue spring holders. Then I made small, incremental progress with the small screwdriver, locking down the progress each time with the larger screwdriver. Once I got past the 50% point on the spool, it got easier and at 75% it dropped in. I couldn't believe we did it.
    Definitely the most difficult and time-consuming part of the entire repair! But I saved myself way north of $1,000 vs. taking to dealer and basically have a new regulator (with original motor). I'm expecting the passenger side window to fail soon (b/c window usage is primarily from dropping and closing the top) but it will be a lot easier to fix this time.

    Timing really is everything! Can’t believe you just posted this recently. Working on a 2000 civic. The cover for the drive mechanism popped off and everything came apart. No broken parts. I searched for diagram or a vid, yours was the only one I found!! I was able to save $100 and do a same day repair because of this vid!! Thanks for saving me time and money!!!

    Great video and explanation. I used the same kit and couldn’t get it the wire to feed so ended up buying a used one which has worked over couple years now. At least I’ll have a spare. Thank you for all of your helpful videos!

    Thank you so much for the video. Getting the cable around the spool is killing me. I just can’t see how it’s possible without monkey grip strength and/or a second pair of hands. I’ll have to come back to it when a friend can keep the blue pieces from flying out of the guides or the spool from pushing too far into the mechanism.

    Another awesome vid! Always saving everyone time, and in this case $$$!
    One thing, in several parts you refer to upper and lower. Once out of door, regulator top and bottom less obvious.
    So make note of which way up (maybe draw an arrow on it as remove from door), so bench work easier.

      Good point. Regulator top has two studs point vertically. Regulator bottom has two studs pointed horizontally.

    Mine went out like two weeks ago and I didn’t look at your videos and bought a new one. Smh luckily I found a brand new one on eBay for 300. But sadly still wasted more than the 75 bucks for the repair kit smh.

    What perfect timing for this video! My passenger window is currently stuck in the down position. Initially it would auto roll down when you slightly press the button - now it won’t go back up. I took the panel off and felt the regulator and it was very hot. I unplugged and plugged it back in and it sparked. I do still hear the clicking sound when I try rolling the window up though.
    Do you think this eBay kit is the possible solution or is there a chance the regulator/motor is fried? Thank you!

    • @DIYGuysvideo

      Not sure, I would disassemble again to verify. You should be able to see if a cable is broken pretty easily

    Hey man, it’s good to see you post after a while! Quick question: Both of my window regulators are working fine, but the automatic window down feature for the driver side window isn’t working. Any ideas on why that might be? Thanks in advance!

    • @DIYGuysvideo
      @DIYGuysvideo  11 місяців тому

      Try the automatic window reset procedure (should be on s2ki). If that does not work or you have to redo the reset procedure again, it’s a regulator issue. Do you happen to have an AP1? I have the same issue and there is a TSB for it.

    • @arryag2008

      @@DIYGuysvideo Sorry for the insanely late response. I saw the post on S2Ki that you’re referring to and will be sure to try it in a few weeks (currently putting ITBs and a truckload of other goodies on my AP1).
      I’ll also look into that TSB. Thanks so much for the help!

    is there a way to replace the motor? my passenger window does not go down all the way and gets stuck and needs help going back up. is that the motor or cable?

    • @Prevaileth

      same here but it does go back up fine tho.

    • @DIYGuysvideo
      @DIYGuysvideo  11 місяців тому

      I don’t think there a cost efficient way to do it. You’d probably have to buy a used regulator to source the motor.
      I’d imagine if your cable broke the window would fall down without using the motor. I have noticed broken cables jamming my own motor though.

    Tooling of the spool is insufficient as the key end of the cable doesn't lock in properly. Combine this with straight braided cables along with springs makes it practically impossible. I've even created a jig to lock both springs down and the cable is still the wrong length for the correct tension. I'll do my best to modify and make work.

    Looked like the cable broke up on the arm. The cables look like standard bike brake cables. I bet you could make your own with them if you get the length right and re use the end sstops.

    Thank you for making this video. My friend and I followed it and replaced the cables on my window today! When my passenger side regulator went out a few months ago I didn’t know you could repair it, and spent $1000 for a shop to replace the regulator (they didn’t put the glass back properly so it was squealing terribly too). This time when the driver side stopped working, I found the repair kit and your video. You saved me so much money and from tossing a working motor. Two pairs of hands helped a lot. I am impressed that you managed to get the cables in with just one set of hands. 🫡👏🏻 Thank you so much.
