Vincent is an amazing representative of a paint company. He was very tactful but did show how colours papers furnishings and decorations can change through the centuries but that one is actually living in this century with a personal lifestyle that has to be comfortable in the environment that one creates. It can reflect the age of the chateau but not absolutely copy it. I am glad Patrick and Stuart have found such a perceptive and knowledgeable person to guide them in making a gorgeous room which they can share with very many friends and fill it with laughter.
Love this topic - right up my alley. Definitely colour selection needs to be a long term love, that brings you comfort. I love 18th century warm colors in a deep buttery gold, raspberry/burgundy with a dark undertone and forest greens, all which can be supported with white or off white trims, ceilings edged in gold. Earthy colours can be combined with this pallet as well. That pallet can be used in every room, on their own, or mixed for a fun and joyful feel. When using the pallet in each room in a different manner brings a cohesiveness to your environment. It sets a tone of class and elegance in my opinion. These colours can be used in lighter or darker hues, depending on the use of the room and how you want it to feel. The hue should be paired with the colour of furniture, so they enhance one another. If the furniture is light in colour you may want the hue of the walls also to be light to keep the room bright - or make them opposites. If you have dark furniture you may want a brighter hue to lighten the room or a darker hue to set a calm tone of the room. Anyway - LOL I could go on forever. I can't wait to see what you do!
I especially loved that Vincent on several occasions emphasized that, although you want the room to be authentic, it is your home. You live there. It is not a museum. I think you, and all of us, can have beautiful rooms that are comfortable as well. He’s definitely going to be a great help. 🥰
Hi Ginny. Indeed. We knew that but wanted to be close to the period. Now we will compromise and still have a home that is as close as we can get. Love your comment ❤❤❤
I immediately watched this a second time. I think the advice is this: 1. Decide the function of the room. 2. Decide the style of the furnishings. 3. Then choose a wall treatment that harmonizes with the furniture. Very useful guidance!
Isn’t that great guidance Lisa! Loved it and he will come back. 😊❤. It was perfect advice. We did great designs before but for regular homes……. So different for a chateau. ❤❤❤
What Vincent is saying is essential to decorating any period house. He explains it very well. And it's true what he explains about white, there was a period in Scandinavia in the beginning of the 1900s when most historic furniture was painted white, windows, mouldings, walls even. It was of course a reaction, a swing of the pendulum after the dark velvet brown and dark greens, flocked wallpaper of the mid to late 1800s. The pendulum swings, the philosophy and ideals of aesthetics change, but in previous eras, one often kept all the inherited furniture and repainted, reupholstered. The ambition of a look or impression of a room is key. If it's really important to give the interior architecture a feel of "it was always this way" or if one prefers to be somewhat in tune with the overall style of a given period, there's a huge difference between these two. Add the contemporary functions of the room, plus whatever is already in the room one wants to keep there, and you have three aspects to meld together. The old classic "House & Garden" traditional approach is to start with the carpet. Why? Bc finding the right dimensioned carpet you like is the hardest and one of the biggest investments (usually, at least if you use oriental handknotted ones, whether at auction, inherited or brand new). And if you use more than one the carpets signify zones in the space, for instance, one under a grand piano at one end of a room, another large enough to fit your sitting arrangement in front of a fireplace etc. So traditionally you'd start with the carpet(s) which in itself then limits the color palette. You want colors that will match or instead compliment those of your carpet (preferably both within a room) and any color present on the floor considered as well. Colors are always available in thousands of shades, carpets that are right for your space are not. This is a traditional English approach, and then just like Vincent says, you start to collect fabric swatches of different colors and different scaled prints, being careful not to match them too much (or it will all look like a coordinated "set" not the natural layers over time that makes a room dynamic, interesting and inviting). I'd say it's this "art of layering" that really gives warmth to an interior, more than the actual dominant colors. Even a very modern interior with cool shades can have a warm and soulful feel if there's a conversation going on between prints, hues, textures and it doesn't look too planned or matchy matchy. Or it can feel like you walked into a public space or hotel that just opened, a finshed literal concept and ice cold, no matter if its all in warm reds and browns or all from the correct date. You don't have to start with a carpet imo, you may be happy with a very neutral one you can find later, or a bohemian mix of smaller ones or none at all. So starting with a piece of art you really love and want to play a role in the room is just as fine, or if you bought a sofa with fabric you absolutely love, the point is starting with that one piece that provides a palette, then collecting accents, coordinates and compliments (opposite side of the color wheel) to create a whole. That bit about not understanding when you enter a room is true. That can quite easily be remedied sometimes with a print or color that ties things together, worse to me, is when you immediately understand what they were going for, but they messed it up with overdoing it, over matching, too many statements, too many dominant colors competing or an overall lack of guts to make choices of any substance (being too careful with too subtle colors everywhere can look more chaotic and "brocanty" with no anchor). Anyway, if you like the idea of a sky ceiling, there's alot of ceiling papers available these days. And I don't mean literal reproductions of 18th century frescos which tend to look super - kitch, but well balanced papers for ceilings that provide a little dimension and hue of color. If not for the grand salon, perhaps for a bedroom where one spends time looking up. If you set your VPN to different countries googling will show quite different results. Also, just chosing a light blue could give that effect without being too literal. One thing Vincent didn't talk about was lighting. To me, the type of interior lighting you will use in a space when activated, and the directions from which the room recieves natural light has a HUGE impact on color choices for walls, wainscotting and ceiling. In our hemisphere northfacing windows provide light that brings out the blue tones in any color. So a pink will look more magenta, a yellow lean more towards green, a white will have a blue or violet tint, a blue will be quite brilliant with more depth, and a celadon might look turquoise. A southern facing room with have warm spectrum light, bringing out the yellows and reds of any color. East is morning light, west is evening light, and the color of a breakfast room would look very different if it was west facing instead of east facing. Ceiling colors jobs are to reflect light. It bounces off it, and that hue is reflected around the room. Un ciel bleu is lovely, but you'd want to consider the walls and furnishings under that blue tinge of light. Ie lovely for a yellow ochre and gold room (opposite side of the wheel) but if you chose green walls you need to take into account the color will lean cooler, just like in the nothern light, and you might want to go earthier green or yellower green to balance it out. The same with any color thats not a direct complimentary one on the opposite side of the wheel. Greys are tricky bc they can lean in all different directions. Getting a grey right is probably the hardest, at least in my experience. Similar to whites you get either greenish, violet or bluish shades in the shadows. And the direction the light comes from has the most influence on these. To me, the hue of any color is therefore more important than the color itself. Because Aqua greens, eau de nils, turquoises can be beautiful, but make a bright room feel like it's under water, and make guests skin look quite sickly if illuminated. An apricot tone can be super pretty on the wall but also make people in it look dreadfully pale, it's too close to "flesh tint" only brighter. When it comes to social spaces, I always think it's a splendid idea to consider what makes your guests look their best. For a dining room specifically, I like a color that makes the ladies skin look healthy, the food appetizing, and jewels glimmer in the candle light. It's appreciated even though people may not know it's the color boosting this. So that's also something to consider in a room for vibrant social settings. The colors will frame not only your interiors but your guests, much like the background of a portrait or the passe partout of a watercolor. For a grand salon I'd avoid beiges, greens that lean too minty or towards lime, darker greys, browns, dark earth tones and inky hues that absorb too much light instead of sending it back to bounce around in merriment. They tend to be too cloying and depressive for candle light to be festive and make people look old and pale. But can be great for small spaces to relax in silence especially complimented with gold, copper, and pops of bright color. One last thought: When it comes to colors, personal concepts can be just as great as chosing a dominant. Such a concept might be "jewel tones". Meaning a family of hues in different colors, that still feel cohesive and put together, without being repetetive. Jewel tones would mean exactly what it sounds like, amber with deep violet works, if paired with fuchsia, saffire and emerald green. Nice with a dark neutral trim or cooler metallic. Another concept could be "spingtime in Provence". Warm earthy yellows, lavenders, bright sap and dark greens, cobalt blues and soft rose hues all work beautifully together like in so many paintings made in the region by all the masters. A third might be "Imari porcelain". A style of Japanese porcelaine that took it's colorway from Persian influence, and pairs fantastically (of course) with Persian carpets. Deep china blue with light corals and rusty iron reds, very light greys, floral patterns and gold accents. Nice combined with a stripe somewhere to give some definition. Quite handsome and never too girly. I like to think in terms of concepts if starting out without a definate dominant feature of a room. There are as many as you can envision, the question might be what do you love collecting, or looking at, or what specific memory of a place makes you happy? I'm not big on "feature rooms" that too literally present a concept (like a faux moroccan or Japanese rooms) but find concepts great to use for coordinating different colors and patterns. My two cents in way too many words lol 😂 I'm exited to see your progress! ❤
WOW, I love your comment. Indeed, I agree with what you said. I think you will like our choices. It is not a themed room. It is 18th century paper, elegant and some strong colours to set it off. But not too many. Our furniture is 18th century. Great start. My guess is that when we are finished, you’d have done some things differently for you but you will like what we did. Vincent will be back for the next step. 😊😊😊. Huge thank you for a fantastic explanation of how you approach spaces. Love it. 😍😘💖
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 I'm sorry I'm so wordy 😂. I've very confident in your choices, but it is really cool you took Vincent in to consult with, he seems like a very pleasant guy with lots of knowledge up his sleeve and a sound approach. Like he said, what's more important than anything is YOU love your space and feel it affects your senses the way you want it too. Also, a nice room is always a sortof ongoing process, evolving over time, and that only adds to the dynamics and feeling of a home. With all your great auction and brocante finds the room will be fabulous with some fresh paper on the walls and some coordinating fabrics, a few plants, books and pieces for guests to investigate. Also, seasonal decor brings alot to any social setting and you guys do that beautifully. The running dog moulding in gold turned out so nice with the chandelier. Trims and borders are really quite effective ways to make a big impact, and often overlooked these days in favour of more obvious statements. You both do details beautifully. You have both the keen eye and the crafty skills, which is so inspiring to see! Such fantastic things to share with a partner! 💝
Thank you both for allowing me to live vicariously through you! This was/is my dream to restore historic homes. I love the investigation into the original use and decoration of rooms and integrating those factors into current use. I have the utmost admiration for owners who decorate with respect for the past. Owners certainly have the right to do with their spaces as they like, but the “journey” to the historic decoration and design is much more fun. I appreciate that you have taken me on this journey. I’m sad that viewers feel entitled to dictate your content. This is already an overwhelming undertaking before the full time job of content creating. Then let’s think about the cost of such renovations, multiplied by the number of rooms in each building. BTW, I’m still available to volunteer to work/labor for the experience of participating in said renovation/decorating of said rooms😂😂😂.💗💗💗
Aloha, thank you for sharing Vincent’s brilliance. I’m almost at a loss of words. I adore interior decorating and creating. It’s been my passion since childhood whether it’s my bedroom or my dollhouse. In my life’s travels, I never travel light even when on the road as an entertainer, or just temporarily staying somewhere, I always HAD to decorate my hotel or motel or whatever room I was given, to make me feel comfortable and at home. I have to make it mine, a statement of me, who I am, even if no one else sees it - I see it. I would even pack different colored light bulbs and nite lites for a more pleasant decor.Vincent said and tactfully explained it all. At least now I don’t feel like I’m the only one who feels this way. Everything has a place and a place for everything and there’s a theme and congrunuity to it all. Does that make sense? I will watch this video again and again and try to soak in as much in as possible. Once again, your fantastic video made me feel like I was back in France. I adore Vincent’s vocabulary and accent, he says and expresses it all tres magnifique!
I feel like you have done quite a lot for the year you have been there. The garden, the gete, bathrooms , a kitchen, the gate, the shopping :) , making jams , parties and on and on! I love every minute of it ❤❤❤ oh and a roof ! ❤❤❤
Bonjour Patrick and Stuart, my house, ONLY turned 100 this year. The paint is not 100, but I have been here thirteen years, I loved the color in some rooms and changed the ones I didn't. I am so ready to paint, and Vincent has great ideas, and they make perfect sense. Looking beyond just a color you like, but the purpose of the color to the rooms function is amazing. I didn't care for wallpaper, but watching the Chateau channels, you all have opened my eyes to the beauty of it, (in my defense do the 70's ring a bell) Vincent has great ideas, I can't wait to see how you use them and the "finished" room, (lol) I have no doubt, it will be fantastic when you're finished. P.S. no white. Thanks guys loved the video. Love from N.Y.
The green man , so full of passion for the right colours for most important room of the Chateau. The touch of gold trim around the chandelier brings out the gold of the chandelier ,,amazing how the gold jumps out at you . Two artistic people will no doubt do a wonderful job ,the chandelier is outstanding.
What a great visit with Vincent!!! He was really good at describing the various things that go into picking colors for walls and ceilings, including elements I hadn’t thought of. Thanks so much for sharing the conversation. ♥️ I look forward to seeing the progress on the other rooms when you’re ready to share them. I’m sure you’re taking a few before and during photos for yourselves, and maybe can include a few in the progress videos. Oh dear, an aubergine ceiling in your mid century modern home!!! One cries out, “Whyyyyyyy?!!!!” We recently had an opportunity to see photos of an 1860’s Victorian our family had lovingly restored when I was in high school. I wish I’d never looked to see what they did to our beautiful house, with wood hand-picked by the sawyer who built it (he picked out the individual trees as they came through the mill for elements of the house). Why in the 1990’s would you rip out some to install a hideous 1970’s fireplace. 🤦♀️😭 Lesson learned - don’t look back!!!
Hello darling Stuart and Patrick . Vincent definite has a wealth of knowledge about decor and furnishings. It was very interesting the way he talks about the different periods and explained about how the style of chairs changed from Louis 15th to the 16th due to the fashion of the ladies crinoline dresses. At the end of the day it is your home and it’s about suiting your needs and the purpose of each room. I also think you have achieved so many projects in the short time you have been there and have the right balance of priorities what projects need to be done first. I think Stuart’s wallpaper that he has designed is just beautiful and very fitting for a bedroom . Thank you both again for a very interesting vlog. Xx🇨🇮
We do love Little Greene. Vincent was inspiring. And the do not pay us….. 😂. Just saying. We have used their paint and it is fantastic. And the wallpaper samples are the same way. 😊. Hugs.
Vincent is such a credit to Little Greene. I learn something new every time we speak. We’re so pleased you met him and took advantage of his expertise.❤
As Stuart said, you inspired us to reach out. We were absolutely amazed that this was even possible. Your initiative and vision has helped us more than once 🥳🥰😘. Vincent is fantastic. I am about ready to place a huge order for Little Greene…… 😮😮😮. And then there is the Toile de Stooey ……. Well he designed it. 😂. He hates me saying it. It is ordered and will be up soon. When you come over next time, that’ll be your room together with a lovely marble bathroom…. Love you two and you truly inspire us. ❤❤❤
I really love Vincent. I saw him with Steve and Sarah. He really knows and more importantly is very passionate about colour! I love love the Little Green Products, I wish they were available in Australia. I've been drooling over them for years in the The Country Living Magazine (UK edition) that I buy. It's funny when I first used to buy it was $5.95 which compared to the $2 and under for most of the other magazines available at the time, very expensive. But I used to pore (and still do) over every page, every ad. And I keep them. I have boxes and boxes of them. They are now $12.95AUD and the only magazine I still buy in hard copy. 3 of the magazine I started buying when I was 12 (Cleo, Cosmopolitan and Dolly) they no longer exist in hard copy. So sad, as sign of the digital times. Although, I am on my 4th kindle, I still buy my favourite books in book format and I really prefer a magazine rather than its digital form, but I guess I am in the minority there. I get a bit distressed on your behalf when I hear you justifying yourselves and your process. Bugger them. This is your home, your vlog and you do you. Which you are both doing very well I might add. Personally, I find endless vlogs on sanding floors and replastering walls boring. I would rather see a 2 second bit on that bit. Can't wait to see the end result of all your hard work behind the scenes. Keep it up xx
Vincent is wonderful. Few interior designers acknowledge it is about you and your personality and not whatever the current trend is. He also respects the history. I love that! As for the wallpapers, my eye immediately went to Stuart’s design. Beautiful! On a side note, congratulations on getting the copper pan in the auction for Jonathan’s school!!
What caught my attention was Vincent pointing out that we always paint our ceilings white, but I remember as a child, many decades ago, our ceilings were light colours. We always had wallpaper and it reflected my mother. The wallpaper in my bedroom now, makes me think of my mother, my tastes are not my mother's. It was already here when we bought the house 11 or 12 yrs ago. Having the ceiling reflecting the over all colours chosen for the room almost makes me want to tell my husband, the bathroom, lets use that darker blue on the ceiling, which we painted white of course. I love listening to your deliberations, the why of your choices of this item or that colour. It does make me rethink about our choice of decorations.
Hello Ronnie. That is absolutely wonderful how you shared your memories. Thank you so much. Like you, there was almost always wallpaper. Parents, grand parents and extended family. 😊😮😊. It is interesting to see beyond the now common white ceiling. What a great comment. Sorry, I’m way behind answering but I am glad I finally got to your comment. Hugs and much love from Colombe. 😊❤😊
Vincent has such a great personality and knows color, and style, but he seems to also be great with people to guide you in a direction you’re happy with. Love your wallpaper design Stuart. When I was in college, a wallpaper company hired me as a freelance wallpaper designer. I learned a lot and it was fun to see my designs become rolls of wallpaper. All of your projects sound wonderful but take time. You don’t have a crew of people working with you so filming and working is just too time consuming I imagine. Hard to do both. So, when you are ready and able to show us a glimpse we’ll be watching. Man hugs. xx
He is such a gem. You designed wallpaper? That amazing. I love Stuart’s designs. He created two so far. It is ordered….. 😮❤😮. We have a lot on our plate and there were a very few people complaining. It is truly just us……. Love your comment as always. Love and hugs. ❤❤
Stuart, the toile wallpaper you’ve designed looks beautiful. Looking forward to seeing that completed bedroom. Vincents guidance was helpful and inspiring even for us who don’t have a chateau! It really has become a “Journey through the Chateau” now and I’m loving the journey guys😊
What a great comment. Thank you so much. ❤. I am looking forward to papering the room and seeing it bright and playful. Vincent’s visit was inspirational and besides the specific historical input, he inspired many viewers I think. I’m glad you enjoyed this as well. I love your Journey through the chateau……. What a fantastic way to put it. Love from Colombe. ❤💖💕
It is your chateau and you decide what to show! My father would restore houses and had many projects going on at once-he wanted everyone to see it when it was all done.
So many decisions to make! Vincent was so right when he said it is your chateau and you have to make the decisions that suit your life and not have ones imposed on you that you are uncomfortable with. Don't try to please everyone as in attempting to do that you please noone, especially Stuart and Patrick! Everything is also expensive from paints to wallpapers to fabrics for upholstering furniture and making curtains! Slowly is a very good idea as to make the wrong decisions for you will make you unsettled and unhappy. Best always, David
What an interesting gentleman from Little Green. I can’t wait to see what direction you see for the Grand Salon and how they can transition to the Dining room and entry. It’s going to be exquisite I’m sure. So so fun. This my passion.
He is so knowledgeable. Wonderful input and always asking what we envision. ❤. We love what we picked and hope you do too. Well, once we are done in a few years….. 🤣😂🤣. But seriously, in a year we should be much advanced. Love from us and sending our best wishes to your family. 🥰💕💖
Oh what a great vlog!!! Vincent explained the process of decorating so well: decide on the function and mood you want a room to convey, then furniture elements and the room colour and decor complements. Even though you both are artists and designers in your own right, your willingness to be open to his suggestions and guidance is going to make your collaboration with Vincent amazing!!! Can't wait.❤
Oh yes! This man is a pro! I always thought a mural should go on the ceiling. Even just a simple “sky/clouds” mural would be so pretty. No “chateau restoration” channel I follow is doing this. Back in the day, the ceiling was always decorated and we really have moved away from that. Although, I heard a designer recently say “consider the ceiling the 5th wall in any room”. I look so forward to see this room come together. The two of you have such good taste, I’m sure it will be stunning.
He is and you are right….. We are seriously considering creating a sky ceiling. Fingers crossed. I feel like saying…… pray for us. 😂😂😂 It is the 5th wall. That is so true and what an option…. Love your comment. Thank you so much. ❤
I love watching you guys in whatever state you're in! You are the perfect entertainment and keep me sane! I love how the lit chandelier lined up with the top of the bust head right behind you! It looks like a gorgeous tiara! The Little Greene Man definitely made sense and he has actually helped me make some decisions regarding paint colours....a nice, sensible man!
Thank you so very much Norma. You see our stages of mess…. 😂🤣😂. Glad you enjoy our journey. I saw the chandelier lining up…. Like a sparkly tiara. 😂. Amazing. Vincent helped us a lot to come to our own decisions. He is genial! Love from Colombe. ❤❤❤
I agree. I enjoy Patrick and Stuart's banter and comments. I love fun.& Jokes. And I really enjoy U guys alot, ur laughter and comments are truly hearty and i laugh also!! Going to be a great Vlog of of HUGE BROCANTE SCOUTING💯💥👍👍 PATRICK WHEN IS UR SET OF Donkeys🫏🫏 coming to ur home????😍
I am fascinated by people with an eye for design. I, unfortunately, am not one of those lucky ones but I respect their views. I liked how he always made sure that you knew it was your home and your choices on what you would like. I think some designers just want every home to look the same or how they envision it and don't think about the people who live there.
Vincent is delightful person and he knows what he's talking about. I think he already has a vision how the grand salon could/should look like. He speaks with such passion that you can imagine the restored salon. I love the idea that there will be color and not to much white. I agree that the combination in color between the walls, ceiling and furniture will give the right feeling when you step into the salon. Stuart i love you design in rose/red as wallpaper. I'am so glad that you feel that you made the right decision to buy the Chateau and have no regrets. When coming over it's not just for pleasure i want 't help where ever i can. Also I'am waiting for a special birthday present for you both. I hope to get it next week so i can sent it to you. I love to build up the suspension😂😂 hugs and kisses also for the 11x 🐕 🥰😘🥰💝
Ok….. ow I am intrigued. Suspense indeed. Vincent is amazing and passionate about his work. He brought us inspiration and samples……. 😊. Stuart’s design is so pretty. Glad you like it. You will like it I am sure, when you visit. ❤😊❤. Love from us and our puppies 😊😊😊
I am so glad that you will use at least one of Stuart's toile designs. Magnifique! Also, I really like that yellow or gold with the white scrolls. I hope you stay with blue for the dining room or one of the other main downstairs rooms such as the grand salon or the entry. I remember that you spoke of French grey and I am not sure if that shade is like a Dior grey, but a dove grey at the Chateau de Colombe of course fits perfectly! With regard to the ceiling of the grand salon, it will be good to have a contrast with the white and gold ceiling medallion but I can see why Patrick was saying white because my painter/paper-hanger said to always make the ceiling white. Otherwise, he sniffed, it look tacky. (He was Spanish). Although he worked on historic 19th century homes, mine was not one of them, nor was it an 18th century chateau! In my virtual reality decorating games, I still make the ceilings white because of what he said! Please do put gold lines on the paneling, doors, etc.
Great comment. Thank you so much. Absolutely. This will be one of a few of Stuart’s designs we will use. 😊❤😊 Gilded line in the moulding and on the doors as well. ❤ After much research, we decided we will go with a sky. Huge hugs from Colombe. ❤❤❤
Oh, Patrick that hair! It’s gorgeous! Now that I have that out-of-the-way… Vincent was brilliant. I personally love the rose with the gold accents. He basically put it really well that it’s a feeling you get when you walk into a room. My friends when they come to my house say it’s like walking into a hug. Whatever that means. Bye for now loves 💜🤗😎🫶🇺🇸
😂😂😂. You are so kind. Thank you. 🥰. He is brilliant. I love the description of your friends coming into your house feeling like they have been hugged. Fantastic. What a great comment. Love it. ❤😊❤
Vincent and his thoughts where absolutely fascinating. I cant wait to see paint and paper go up. Considering the history and moving fashions of the times, you do seem to have CA blanch really to do as you please. People often forget the do complimentary cushions to wall coverings and it can get messy and expensive to fix. So glad you are using your beautiful toile Stuart, it will be beautiful in any room. So nice to hear are you are settling into the community now, its so heart warming. 😘😘
I loved Vincent's idea of painting a sky on the salon ceiling. Its not that difficult to do yourself. If you have ever seen somebody paint fake marble the technique is similar. Just thin glazes of colour and scumbling. I don't remember any other chateau channel being so brave.
Two people renovating many room in a Chateau and wanting them to also film every step is asking a lot ..I thing you two do wonders ..Cooking ,backing ,making jam etc, building , painting ….So much talent and so inspiring…Love everything you do…❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Would love to have Vincent to help me at our Vicarage …Just a dreaming ..My eyes go to the yellow wallpaper..maybe in a different colour…
Thank you so very much. Love your kind comment. Indeed, we do almost everything and it is a bit much. I appreciate that you understand what we do and that we cannot give everyone what they want to see. Vincent’s advice works for any age of a property. He is a,along. Would love to see photos when you advance your choices. Hugs. ❤
It's great to have advice from someone who has a profession in Deco but the end of the day it's your call and you show what you want to show its your video, you two have been brilliant and busy over the last year given people a look into your life and how you both wish to live and I for one as loved every minute of it.take care and see you both next time 💕🌼🤗
Our great room (living and dining) is 3 different shades of dark yellow or gold. No one even notices, but it gives a rich feeling and depth to the room. One wall is apple green because it is also the kitchen wall.
That must be amazing. We have painted with close tones. It can be fantastic. Vincent inspired us to paint the same colour in different finishes. We will try that too. I’d love to see a foto of your room. Hugs from Colombe. ❤
Thank you Kathy. It is really pretty. I cannot wait to see it on the walls in the B&B room……. Unfortunately, I have to put it up and hope I do it right…. 😂😅😊. Hugs
The Main Salon is outstanding already… seeing the beautiful furniture, furnishings, paintings, how you have been giving it your own stamp will be wonderful. I so look forward to the final outcome.🎉👏👏🌟
Fascinating listening to Vincent but, and I entirely agree with him, it is your home, and with you Patrick, it is not a museum, and because you have beautiful taste in everything you do, the salon will be spectacular whatever style you choose. Start designing the wallpaper Stuart. ❤ P.S. Patrick, was a lovely surprise to see you bid and win with your generous offer on the Escape to the Dream auction for Johnathan's school. The school is going to be over the moon at the amount raised by this lovely family.
I hope he wasn't expensive. You two exude taste and creativity out of every orifice. You will find just what you want in time. You are galloping along at a tremendous pace......your metaphysical psychotherapist (me 😊) says slooow down. Were enjoying the long story.xx
It is so true. We will find what is right. He is such a gem and loves his job. He stayed for over 6 hours and gave us inspiration. How kind was that? 😊. I love your advice……. Yes, slowing down is important. Love from us as always, you are a gem. ❤❤❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 though stuart's comment on having a good clear view well before you start was great advice so everything is on hand when you are ready.x
Take your time to pick the colours as it's very expensive these days to decorate a room, never mind a whole Chateau. But I'm sure the guy from The Little Green Comp will give you great advice, and it will be beautiful. Love the paper you've designed, Stuart. You are both so creative. Xxx
Hi Cherie. Indeed, we will not rush. And Vincent was amazing. He will be back. Stuart’s design is amazing. It will make our first B&B room completely unique. 😮😊. We are really excited. Hope you will agree with our choices. Hugs. ❤❤
You two have me absolutely squirming about the direction you’re thinking of for the salon. I wait with baited breath! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Stuart’s paper and can’t wait to see that room come together. I also have no doubt that Stuart could paint a magnificent ceiling. I adore you two! Hugs!
Hi guys, That was an excellent idea to have Vincent come for a consultation. He obviously has a lot of knowledge and experience with colors and themes. It was interesting to hear him speak, and so begins your design plans. Stuart, the toilet paper you designed is beautiful. I am excited for you both and look forward to seeing it come together. I am looking forward to the brocante video on Friday. Keep well. Lots of love to you both.❤
Wasn’t that informative and it truly helped us. He is passionate and has a deep knowledge. We have advanced in 2 salons and one bedroom. YAY. 3 wallpapers chosen, accent colours too. The remaining colours will be chosen after all is set up. I think you’ll like the Brocante visit. ❤😊❤. Hugs from us at Colombe. 💖💖💖
Vincent had some very interesting points. Patrick when you were talking about all that had to be done you should have seen Stuart’s face. 😀 Also the bust behind both of you on top of fireplace has the beautiful chandelier on top of her head in the mirror. Looks like she has a beautiful lit up crown on her head. 😃😃😃
I love Vincent's approach to merging historic and modern, that your lifestyle and tastes should not bow to the historical features but that it should be more or less an inspiration drawing from both to create something you can be comfortable with, enough of you to feel at home and enough of historical accuracy to honour the chateau's history and style. And yes I agree, a painted ceiling with clouds in light blues, greys and whites would make this salon into a statement room. And depending on which colours you choose for the walls (either as plain colour, painted wood panelling like a dado rail etc or wallpaper) you could make a striking juxtaposition to the more Rokoko ceiling and a more modern approach with historic hints on the walls.
Love the chateau chic look…. But I’m sure whatever you both choose with Vincent’s input will be lovely … you both have impeccable taste . Can’t wait to see what you choose … ❤❤❤btw… I like light ceilings with darker painted trim - very elegant😊
I was wondering where Vincent went to school! He is a gem & passionate & excellent at his craft! I've seen designers who come in & listen to the customers wants & ideas & desires. But when they leave it looks just like the last homes/rooms that they designed! Your home / designers design 😢 Like I said, A Gem!!! (With a questionnaire)❤
A brilliant idea to bring Vincent on board, he has such a passion for what he does. It is good to have guidance from a professional. I look forward to seeing the finished product!😁
That was so interesting Vincent really knows his stuff, Iook forward to many more vlogs and the decisions you make in regards to the colour palette you choose. Aiming for perfection could send you bonkers as you said this is your home so relax and enjoy.
hello I worked 20 years doing old-fashioned paintings in castles. You can of course do white ceilings but you need old whites. A bit like a chalk gray color. There were beautiful old whites in paint at Flammand.or you can look at zuber papiers peints .they are selling some paper hand peint for the ceiling
Thank you so much. Yes, after we did the ceiling rosette we knew, no white ceilings. 😂. Absolutely love your comment. Constructive feedback is wonderful. Huge hugs. 😊😊😊
It was a good decision to invite Vincent with his fascinating ideas and experience to influence you for the design and colours in your Château, you could feel his passion, Stuart's wall paper design is beautiful I love it, all in all this was a very interesting vlog, its going to be a delightful journey to the Château 😊❤ 🎉 👋
Thank you so much Cheryl. He is very passionate about design and historic buildings too. Perfect combination for us. We are excited to see the wallpaper up although I am nervous to putting it up 😂😮😂. Glad you liked the vlog. Huge hugs from Colombe .
Oooooo, sky ceiling sounds nice. Stuart, your wallpaper design is beautiful. You two are so talented! As for nothing to show, you guys have done more in a year than many and accomplished lots! Never doubt the amount of work you have done.
Love the green little man he's so full with knowledge and so elegant no matter what yous decide it will look stunning keep up the good work and can't wait for the next update❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful wallpapers. My favourite is the green on yellow, fifth from the left. Reminds me of an antique tub chair I had as a child. It was a Louis 15th tub chair with gold brocade striped fabric, to which someone in the 19th century had added casters, to aid an invalid relative. The rear/outside panel had been replaced with Victorian Jacquard fabric that looked exactly like that wall paper. I loved that chair. It was sadly lost during a house move and I have never been able to replace it.
That chair sounds absolutely fantastic. I can imagine that this is a terrible loss. Love your anecdote. Glad you shared it. The 5th from the left, just not in that exact colour is one we picked for one room 😊😊😊. Hugs from Colombe❤❤
Hi Patrick & Stuart, I really enjoyed seeing Vincent from Little Greene Paint and Paper Company at the Chateau explaining the process of selecting paint, wallpaper, fabric, and decor for the Grand Salon and the Petit Salon. I hung on to every word and will share this vlog with my partner/husband when he returns from an out-of-town event this week. I agree with his explanation of the selections but in our case, we have furniture that dates from 1810 through 1920. It's a collection of a bit of this and a bit of that. While the house is a mid-century modern ranch, only a few accessories, so far, are actually from the period of the house. The mix of styles is a bit of Asian, French Louis XIV and Louis XVI, well-designed Philadelphia Chippendale DR chairs (18), and a 16" Victorian Renaissance DR table. The room will eventually be rebuilt due to structural changes that need to be done to a flat roof in New England. I present it all as I am the custodian of furnishings passed down through the family from various relatives over the years. The truth is, the oak and walnut Victorian Furnishings from my Queen Ann Victorian are really fighting it out with the 1950 Mid century modern ranch, hence the need to enlarge and update. I hope I can go on with this as much as I am now when we premier our vlog about the restoration and modernization starting sooner than later I hope. I can't wait to see the continued progress you both make on your Chateau in future vlogs. I'll be sure to be there watching and noting every detail. Mark & Scott
Greetings Mark and Scott. Your house sounds a little bit like our Woodstock, IL home. Mid century and we couldn’t commit to that period furniture….. I’m not a huge fan. So we lived with the mix and we found many examples of wealthy people who mixed styles in the 1950s too……. I think I needed that excuse. 😂😂😂 Can’t wait to see watch your journey on UA-cam. That will be fun. It is always great to see other people work had. 🤣👍🏻🤣. Vincent’s input was fantastic. It can be applied to any period. He is a gem. Heartfelt thanks to you both. Hugs from Colombe ❤
Patrick and Stuart, you both are such gracious hosts. It is a joy to watch you meet strangers and they end up sounding like old friends by the time they leave.
I love watching Vincent! Steve and Sara would know an artist to paint a "sky" or details when you figure things out.Watching from Eden,North Carolina usa
Thank you! You know that we are both artists, right? Stuart has a degree in fine arts and design and has spent most of his life working as an artist. 😂
Good to have some guidance. It can become overwhelming sometimes. I guess the color I see in one of your main rooms is that famous seafoam green with pale beige with white and gold trim. With many mirrors of course. But then there are so many colors to choose from. Bedrooms look good with dramatic wallpaper. Crowns above the bed or four poster beds. Extravagant trims on some drapes, and lots of fringe trims everywhere.
Very exciting to hear the thoughts on how you choose colour in a room! So much to think of. Looking forward to your Journey on finalizing all the rooms.
Patrick and Stewart have you seen the movie Pride and prejudice? There is a scene where Jane is invited to dine at Nether Field park, ends up, getting rained on and catches a cold! Jane ends up staying there until she’s well enough. The bedroom color, wallpaper, linen’s and furnishings are exquisite. Love the paper you designed! If you get a chance watch the movie!
Yes, one of our favourite Jane Austen novels. 🥰 Some of our dogs are named after the characters. There are at least 17 version of the film, so you will need to be a little more specific. 🤣
@@JourneytotheChateau 2005 directed by Joe Wright when Mr. Bingley comes into check on Jane. The color palette is a soft blue the wall paper is gorgeous.
Once again a very interesting vlog. I love the toile de jouy first right next to the most red one at the left side. Decisions of colour, etc are always difficult but remember you will cover vibrant coloured walls with vibrant coloured paintings, mirrors, statues, sconces, items you want to draw attention to. Too bright colours or too many objects will be overwhelming, in my opinion. Choose wisely. Good luck
Great input Wanda. The walls in the grand salon won’t be with strong colours but will have a gorgeous grand design. And historic too. We will be picky with decorations. I promise. Hugs from Colombe ❤❤❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 you guys are in the luxury position that you can decorate several salins, rooms in the "siecle" when they were added to the chateau. So multiple style periods to show. I am considering to volunteer in October if you have something for me to do.
I love your comment. It is a perfect way to describe Vincent, us and the chateau’s interiors. Thank you ❤❤
Love this topic - right up my alley.
I loved watching Vincent on Manor & Maker. I'm glad he came to your chateau as well.
He is such a knowledgeable man and with deep knowledge. It was fantastic. ❤❤
Because
Aqua greens, eau de nils, turquoises can be beautiful, but make a bright room feel like it's under water, and make guests skin look quite sickly if illuminated.
My two cents in way too many words lol 😂
I'm exited to see your progress!
Your bust on the mantel has a gorgeous crown in the reflection of the mirror!!
What a really interesting visitor, he seemed to really understand your ambitions for the room. I can’t wait to see it unfold. Take care xx
He is great and we loved his guidance to our own vision. ❤❤❤
Vincent was very inspirational to us as well, and really made us change our thinking for colors and design at the chateau. 👍💕😊😊
Fantastic lans!!! 🥰🎶❤️😎😎

I feel like you have done quite a lot for the year you have been there. The garden, the gete, bathrooms , a kitchen, the gate, the shopping :) , making jams , parties and on and on! I love every minute of it ❤❤❤ oh and a roof ! ❤❤❤
Thank you for the wonderful reminder. I am likely to forget and only see what we have not done.😮😮😮😮😮 😂. This made my evening.
I loved Vincent's ideas and questions. I learned a lot. It's a great way to home in on what you actually want
He is amazing and there are quite a few people like you and us, who learned a lot or felt inspired. He makes us think and that amazing. ❤❤❤
What a great visit with Vincent!!! He was really good at describing the various things that go into picking colors for walls and ceilings, including elements I hadn’t thought of. Thanks so much for sharing the conversation. ♥️
I look forward to seeing the progress on the other rooms when you’re ready to share them.
Xx🇨🇮
Thank you, Sheila! 💕
The Little Greene man!! Wonderful news, such a quality company.
Ilove the Little Greene Man! Lol
We do love Little Greene. Vincent was inspiring. And the do not pay us….. 😂. Just saying. We have used their paint and it is fantastic. And the wallpaper samples are the same way. 😊. Hugs.

Little Green company needs to give Vincent a pay raise
Vincent is such a credit to Little Greene. I learn something new every time we speak. We’re so pleased you met him and took advantage of his expertise.❤
Yes, Vincent was wonderful! We would never had known about having him visit without you, so thank you! ❤️xx
I really love Vincent's idea of a ceiling with a sky painted on it. It maybe does not need to be in the salon, but maybe in one of the guest room?
We love it too……. Guess what! ❤😊❤.
That is so true. Significant progress yes, but the slow improvements….. we don’t want to bore viewers to death. 😂😊😂. Hugs.
Remember we like the ripping out just as much as the putting back together 😊
I think the ceiling painted with blue and clouds.....fantastic!
Indeed……. And we know how we can do it since we are both painters. Well, Stuart more than me. 😅. We might just go for it. ❤
What an interesting gentleman from Little Green. I can’t wait to see what direction you see for the Grand Salon and how they can transition to the Dining room and entry. It’s going to be exquisite I’m sure. So so fun. This my passion.
Thank you, Denie! ❤️
Thank you!
He is and you are right…..
We are seriously considering creating a sky ceiling. Fingers crossed. I feel like saying…… pray for us. 😂😂😂
It is the 5th wall.
Going to be a great Vlog of of HUGE BROCANTE SCOUTING💯💥👍👍 PATRICK WHEN IS UR SET OF Donkeys🫏🫏 coming to ur home????😍
what a fascinating conversation - a veritable master class in the creative process!
I am fascinated by people with an eye for design. I, unfortunately, am not one of those lucky ones but I respect their views. I liked how he always made sure that you knew it was your home and your choices on what you would like. I think some designers just want every home to look the same or how they envision it and don't think about the people who live there.
Enjoyed the Little green man. So passionate about his craft.
Thank you so much, Gonnie! 🥰❤️😘
Ok….. ow I am intrigued.
I Love that you feel you are truly home. How wonderful.
Viel gluck was immer ihr aussucht will be fantastic alles liebe ❤😊❤😊
Herzlichen Dank! Wir hoffen, daß wir dem Schloss gerecht werden und es trotzdem für unsere heutige Zeit ange, essen ist. ❤😊❤. Liebe Grüße. 😘🥰😘
That gentlemen seemed very knowledgeable
Gilded line in the moulding and on the doors as well.
PS. It would look amazing reflecting behind you in the mirror during vlog chats.
That is true. It would be on a list for later….. 😂. But I love the idea too. We will, get there. ❤❤❤
Hugs. ❤
Wallpaper is so exciting ……..whatever you choose will be wonderful
It is amazing. And so many options. ❤. We made choices and we are happy with them. Huge hugs. 😊
Your never boring, but always creatively stimulating. 😊
You are way too kind and we thank you so much. Love it. Hugs. ❤❤❤
Bringing history and you both together in one room
Love it. So true. Hugs from Colombe. ❤
It's great to have advice from someone who has a profession in Deco but the end of the day it's your call and you show what you want to show its your video, you two have been brilliant and busy over the last year given people a look into your life and how you both wish to live and I for one as loved every minute of it.take care and see you both next time 💕🌼🤗
I love the gold with grey detail on the left side of the wallpaper swatches. It will go well with the grey you already have on the walls ❤
What a great resource Vincent has been! I love the two gold choices for wallpaper, but I can't wait to see what you do with the salons!
He is amazing. I love them too and gold it will be for the grand salon…… ❤😊❤😊❤
I love the ideas of a sky ceiling with a light green or yellow wallpaper on the top of the fire place behind you on the today Chanel 💐
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ to you both!
Thank you, John! ❤️
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 How do you post pictures?
Did it again, colors and patterns wonderful, looking forward to seeing the process!!!
I absolutely LOVE Stuart’s toile with the peacock! Gorgeous
Thank you Kathy. It is really pretty. I cannot wait to see it on the walls in the B&B room……. Unfortunately, I have to put it up and hope I do it right…. 😂😅😊. Hugs
Patrick has been bidding again; this time on a copper pan from Lalacelle...and he won! Really enjoyed this installment.
The Main Salon is outstanding already… seeing the beautiful furniture, furnishings, paintings, how you have been giving it your own stamp will be wonderful. I so look forward to the final outcome.🎉👏👏🌟
Thank you so much Rosita. We are on our way. 😊. We thank you for your wonderful support and input. Huge hugs from Colombe ❤❤❤
I love Stuart’s wallpaper design!
Thank you! 💕
Isn’t it lovely! ❤. Can’t wait to see it on the walls. Hugs 😊
Fascinating listening to Vincent but, and I entirely agree with him, it is your home, and with you Patrick, it is not a museum, and because you have beautiful taste in everything you do, the salon will be spectacular whatever style you choose. Start designing the wallpaper Stuart. ❤
It was a free consultation, and such a lovely visit. ❤️
@@JourneytotheChateau then that was very kind of him. Friends are great at helping decide what not to do lol.x
I hope you're enjoying your BIRTHDAY MONTH! 🎉❤
We did. Thank you so much. ❤❤❤
Take your time to pick the colours as it's very expensive these days to decorate a room, never mind a whole Chateau. But I'm sure the guy from The Little Green Comp will give you great advice, and it will be beautiful. Love the paper you've designed, Stuart. You are both so creative. Xxx
Thank you, cherie! ❤️
Hi Cherie. Indeed, we will not rush. And Vincent was amazing. He will be back.
Stuart’s design is amazing. It will make our first B&B room completely unique. 😮😊. We are really excited. Hope you will agree with our choices. Hugs. ❤❤
Stuar the paper is beautifull such a talent i am happy you start to shine more both of you are a great couple compliment each other so much 🎉🎉🎉❤
I’m so glad you like his wallpaper design. Stuart is incredibly talented. 😊
Thank you for your wonderful comment. Huge hugs. ❤❤❤
Hugs!
Hi guys,
That was an excellent idea to have Vincent come for a consultation.
How exciting and inspirational that visit with Vincent was!
Your synapses must have been firing for days after that.😊
Great episode! It warmed my heart when you said you were definitely HOME!
Thank you so much. We love the chateau now more than when we first bought it. Huge hugs from us. ❤😊❤
I absolutely love your comment. Spot on and you got us 100%. Thank you very much. Love from Colombe ❤❤❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 😁
You are welcome :) Grüße vom linken Niederrhein!
He is a gem. 100% spot on. Next time he comes we will quiz him! ❤❤❤
Have the place looking the way YOU WANT
😊❤😊. We will. It was an exercise in opening our minds to new possibilities and we loved it so much. Thank you so very much. 💕🥰💕
You’re doing ok…I like the way you decorate…
A brilliant idea to bring Vincent on board, he has such a passion for what he does. It is good to have guidance from a professional. I look forward to seeing the finished product!😁
I totally agree. It is great to get constructive advice. We are really excited about our choices. ❤❤❤
love how the "réseau des châteaux" is working❣️
Hi Elisabeth. Isn’t that amazing? 💖👍🏻💕
That was so interesting Vincent really knows his stuff, Iook forward to many more vlogs and the decisions you make in regards to the colour palette you choose. Aiming for perfection could send you bonkers as you said this is your home so relax and enjoy.
loved your visit from Vincent - SO Interesting and informative xx
A wonderful fellow. Excellent suggestions for you to consider.
hello I worked 20 years doing old-fashioned paintings in castles. You can of course do white ceilings but you need old whites. A bit like a chalk gray color. There were beautiful old whites in paint at Flammand.or you can look at zuber papiers peints .they are selling some paper hand peint for the ceiling
We agree. We would never use a pure white anywhere in the chateau. If we go with whites, they do need to be "old whites". Thanks!
Thank you so much. Yes, after we did the ceiling rosette we knew, no white ceilings. 😂. Absolutely love your comment. Constructive feedback is wonderful. Huge hugs. 😊😊😊
I found one at Zuber, we really like. 💖💕💖
A joy to watch- can't wait to see your final choices !!!
Oooooo, sky ceiling sounds nice. Stuart, your wallpaper design is beautiful. You two are so talented! As for nothing to show, you guys have done more in a year than many and accomplished lots! Never doubt the amount of work you have done.
Thanks so much! 😊💕
Love the green little man he's so full with knowledge and so elegant no matter what yous decide it will look stunning keep up the good work and can't wait for the next update❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think you need to get busy on that sky ceiling Stuart. I KNOW what you can do! Seriously, I do like that idea.
😂😂 I know you know. We are talking about it. 👍👍💕💕
Can’t wait to see watch your journey on UA-cam.
Oh, what a kind and lovely comment. Thank you so much. 😍😘💖
Indeed….. they recommend Stuart. 😂😂😂. Love your comment. Hugs from Colombe. ❤❤
What a great idea hiring a consultant that was so informed and helpful!
Martha, the most a,aging thing is that Little Greene does this for free. 😮❤😊. He is amazing. ❤❤❤
Doing a beautiful job ❤
Great advice guys you have some beautiful paper samples . Looking words to watching as always . ❤❤❤❤😊
Thank you. And we made choices that make us really happy. Thank you very much. ❤❤❤
