The old blue is absolutely stunning. We love it. We kept it on the wood to maybe recreate it. And indeed, the true eyesore is being moved. How great is our mayor! ❤❤❤ I finally learned to deconstruct that allows to reuse the materials. Love to you and your family darling 🥰💕💖
The blue and white paper was just gorgeous! Well I must say, hair pins is exactly what I would expect to find in the cupboard of a lady's boudoir! Isn't it amazing how slow things grow in the garden when you want them to....fruit trees for example and how feral they grow when you don't.
Isn’t that old blue wallpaper amazing? And what did they put on instead……..😲😡😖 I waited for one little gem….. none 😂😂😂. And isn’t that true. You want them to grow….. and it’s soooooo slow and then you for this….. 🤣😂🤯. Priceless. Love from Colombe. ❤
The view from that bathroom is stunning. Is there room for a tub so your guest (me for instance) can have a lazy soak in the tub with that gorgeous view?
Aloha Patrick and Stuart, that was both fascinating and incredible! The blue and eggshell (off whiteish) wall paper is sooooooooo YES!!! Your Mayor is wonderfu🥇. Thank you for responding to my comments and I am aware of how busy you both are and my feelings won’t be hurt if you don’t get back to me. As I’ve mentioned, I lived in Bordeaux when I was 5 & 6 yrs. old and watching your videos brings back some of the best memories of my life. Merci beaucoup 🏰🕊.
That is wonderful that out little videos can bring you joy. Thank you so much. That wallpaper is amazing. We love it. And we adore our mayor. Huge thank you from Colombe. ❤
Well, I bought my land and decided that the exterior will look just like your Chateau! There will be nidifications as I am disabled so it needs to be flat, accessible and will have either a chair lift or a small elevator. I love architecture & took architectural drafting many years ago. I designed & built a home in Texas many years ago. I am so in love with your house! I will start construction next year. I've purchased several chandeliers and other light fixtures from France & Italy. I worked in a Julia Morgan YWCA for ten years. It was Mediterranean style. She won me over! LOL Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. It gives me so many ideas!
WOW. That is great news. Love it. Very honoured that you will take our architecture/ facade for your inspiration. I hope you will share photos! It is a blessing that you build new since you don’t have the historic restrictions. It makes me so proud to read your comment. For both, our choice of chateau and for you to build your dream! How fantastic is that! You do what we did….. buying fixtures ahead of time……. That is eternal optimism! Thank you for sharing. Love and hugs from Colombe. ❤❤❤
Where will you be building? It’s such a wonderful idea. I too am disabled (MS) and when I look at these chateaus I always look to see if there would be access for a wheelchair, but not usually. But I think there is always room for one of those single elevators. 😊
I just love watching how both of you share and create together, helping each other with each new adventure that the Chateau presents! No one knows what they will encounter when they start on an adventure like this! And Patrick digress all you want , it makes us laugh and enjoy the journey with you both that much more!
Just WOW! The antique blue and white wallpaper with border is very pretty. I love that the little bathroom has that great window in it. Thanks for sharing.
How exiting to find the lovely blue wallpaper behind the cabinet. Boy how styles can change from beautiful to what were they thinking. Patrick you took the cabinet apart in such a way I'm sure you will find a use for the wood on future projects. Just a reminder, you are rich! You have each other, your health, your loving family (some really hairy ones), friends and don't forget your Maire. (It is nice to dream though, now wake up and snap out of it. I for one and I'm sure there are many others that will agree we know you two are always working on something whether you show us now or at a later time. Good job on that ivy too. Hugs to all and stay well 😘
That wallpaper was soooo pretty and then what? 😂😂😂. What were they thinking indeed. ❤ I might rebuild the cabinet for storage in the workshop. It is all stored away. We sure have all those blessing and I thank you for reminding us. I sometimes forget with all the work. Sending you love from Colombe ❤❤❤
So much to enjoy in this video Patrick and Stuart. I do love how slow (whoever is doing the Brocantes filming) you pan over all the ‘goodies’ so we can actually peruse for ourselves and it doesn’t make us dizzy watching the camera dart around quickly.😅 What a beautiful find the old blue and white wallpaper is and you made a great job of the disassembling - not demolishing - of the old cupboard Patrick. I despair watching modern renovation shows where they demolish perfectly good kitchen cabinets that someone else may gladly reuse. As the saying goes ‘one man’s junk is another man’s treasure’! 👌👏❤️
Stuart’s camera work is great. 😊. I hate the TV shows that promote smashing everything to pieces. You described that perfectly. Thank you so much. Hugs from Colombe. ❤
Good morning Patrick & Stuart, the Brocante looked very interesting. The table with the blue crockery had the most beautiful small containers and those delicate tables were so pretty. They can fit in anywhere. Always nice to see Tony & Jane, hope they found something nice as well. The bedroom project will turn out lovely I am sure. The wall paper coverings are amazing for back in the day! I think they did try to update the moulding on the ceiling but they ran out and just left it. No use thinking about it, it is now yours and you can do as you please. I was sharing your projects with my husband and a thought came to mind, instead of doing a mural on the ceiling which might be killer, why not decorate it with beautiful mouldings? The ceiling can be left white/cream and then the mouldings to decorate the blank space, I am sure it would look amazing and you can gold trim to match the rose, just a thought. Enjoy and be happy. Kind regards, Elize.
Hi Elise. The table with the faiences was wonderful. Unfortunately very high prices. The moulding are original but we’re altered to fit pipes in the late 1800s for heating and later for hot water……. The moulding on ce ceiling could be an option but that was not done in the 1640s. Stuart has a fine arts degree and can paint that ceiling and we have supporters that would want to help paying an artist to help paint it. Hugs as always from Colombe. 😊😊
I really enjoy seeing the renovations. The camera sitting in one or two places filming everything is a great way to do it, that way no one has to hold it.
Hi Stuart and Patrick I can’t get over how quickly nature takes over re: the Pillars by the gates. It seems like yesterday you were working on the gates with Tony. I love the blue colour of the old wallpaper. Look forward to what your going to create in that bathroom. Enjoyed the walk round at the Brocante. As always I love your videos and content. Thank you
I thought about how amazingly Fast that grew, if they are leaving the pole in sight, 'accidently' leave some of its clippings around the poles & vola, no pole! 😂
Go Patrick , Go! Rip it all down from floor to ceiling and create a new bathroom for an en suite. Don’t stop now that you are on a roll, we also want to watch you doing it!
😂😂😂. Thank you. I am on it. We are making daily progress and it feels great. And I am not forgetting often to film the work. Not as good as Stuart filming but …….. updates soon I hope. Huge hugs. ❤
Crazy how quickly everything grows !!! I remember the episode when you finished the gates - not that long ago!😱Glad the “ pole” situation was resolved ! At least not in your line of vision😊 Love how you two find joy in everything you do! Thank you for making us smile❤
Hi Nancy. Isn’t nature amazing? Even when it is not convenient 😂😂😂 Pole situation is a relief. Thank you for your very kind comment. Hugs from Colombe ❤
We have done some remodeling in our house and we have found old coins under floors and behind cabinets. So now we put a current dated coin back. Behind cabinets and under our new floors. We also write the date and ask our carpenters to sign and date the back of base boards, flooring, and in the attic.
The blue and white wallpaper must have been stunning when new. I’m glad they are taking that ugly pole down or moving it. Everything you men do is so classy!
We will try to recreate the blue printed wallpaper. It is indigo print…. 😮. I hope you will like the bathroom. This one will be very high end….. let’s see if we succeed. Hugs from Colombe. 😊😊
That old blue and white wallpaper looks lovely. I am sure the bathroom will look great when you are done. I am sure you both will work your magic on the bathroom and the bedcrown I have a weed vinr that gtows in my back garden. I have w dpecies I can'tget tid of. One is like a potatoe vine and mixed within that is bishops weed. I am keeping it under control, but I can't garden like I used to. Well, at least not this year as I have not been well. I promised myself I won't digress this time. So I wish you both well, and I will see you in your next vlog. Lots of love to you both.❤
Hi Peter. I hope you are recovering , even if it is slow. The old wallpaper was such a lovely find. Some weeds are just a pain. Just focus on the next spring. This year it is about you looking after yourself. ❤. Digressing is wonderful at times, isn’t it. Huge hugs from Colombe.
@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Thanks for your reply, Patrick. Yes, I am recovering well, thank goodness. Now that being said, I treated myself to a pedicure the other day. The lady was almost finished when she was using a pumice type sub around my outer left ankle. All of a sudden, she let out this scream. Apparently, one of the tiny veins started spewing out blood. Of course, I didn't feel any pain, and being a nurse, I got her to calm down and apply pressure. A couple of staff came to help out. One went next door to dollarama for bandages, as they had no first aid kit. I got it dressed, and I reassured everyone that it was not her fault and attempted to pay and leave. They refused any payment, and I got home and got Pat to help reinforce the dressing. I have been monitoring the circulation, and so far, all is good. I had this happen twice before and went to the hospital thinking maybe they can cauterize the vein, but the doctor just ordered pressure dressing, which I had to teach the nurses to do, as they had no clue. Anyway, I plan on going back to the salon and bringing a first aid kit and teaching some basic first aid. They all have known me for years and know I am a nurse. I think a fruit basket may be a nice gesture, too. I think after that, I will try to find a lucky rabbit paw. Good Lord, See how I digress! Yes, the gardening can wait. I am very grateful I am recovering. You both have helped me too with your kind messages, so thank you. 😊
What fun to see more reno along with your visit to the brocante. That wallpaper and border was a find. Very pretty. Glad you won tackling the ivy Patrick! 🥰🥰
Finally more serious renovations! Yay. Makes me really happy. The old wallpaper is in small Han printed pieces. 1700s? Not many references I could find yet. The ivy almost won. 😂😂😂. Terribly vigorous. 😂. Hugs from us. ❤❤
Hi darlings. Ivy is such a nuisance it gets everywere ans can smother trees. I love the bedcrown. So glad that the pole next to the entrance will be removed. The wallpaper with the blue floral print is gorgeous. Pitty you did't find ant treasure😊 but you still have other rooms to restore so who knows what you will find😉 The weather has completely changed here, from weeks hot and dry to now days of storms and rain. But the temperature is still oké. The rain was well needed for agriculture. Have a very nice weekend. Hugs and kisses also for the 11x 🐕. 😘🥰🌻🌞
Hello sweetie. Ivy and vines can be great……. However…….😮😂 The wallpaper is fantastic. I will continue to look for treasures….. even a fake diamond would do 😂😂😂 Like you, we went from hot to rain and storms. But not as bad as you had them. Hang in there. Love from us ❤❤❤
I like your red glasses Stewart! The old blue paper was very pretty. I look forward to seeing how cleverly you fit a bathroom into the available space.
how nice to live somewhere where beauty counts. I'm happy for you that they're removing at least that one pole. Exciting to see what you're going to do with this bath. Have a terrific weekend! Hugs!
That is so true. The biggest eye sore will be moved! Thank you Mayor Fabienne! I hope you will like what we came up with. Making steady progress. 😊😊😊. Hugs ❤
Beautiful finials make an appearance again, nice to see you two enjoying Tony and Janes company. I wonder what era the blue and white wallpaper was from, it was quite cute and delicate, it would be nice to see if Stuart does a little recreation of the pattern. See you next time 😊❤👋
They are back from the jungle it seems. 😂😂😂. We love our outings with Tony and Jane. Always fun. The wallpaper was about 1650 as we were told. Indigo printed on paper. Still vibrant. Amazing. Stuart will definitely try to recreate it when we have more time. Thank you for the great comment. Hugs ❤❤
Another item for your store, if he’s interested in giving it a try. 🙂 My fairly little house is just the right size for me, but I do sometimes wish that I had more rooms, to have fun with different designs. You two have the perfect place to play with so many options, for years! 😁
Dear Patrick and Stuart, I love the piece of furniture you are sitting in front of. Every time I see it, I find it perfect in your kitchen. The old blue and white paper is lovely so I’m happy you exposed it even if just for a glimpse. I’m so happy to hear that one of the poles will be moved. Maybe the vines that grew up your columns will grow up the poles and hide them. Better use of the invasive vine. Many hugs to you both!! xx
That giant buffet’ dear Stephanie, made even Vincent go: WOW😊. That indigo blue printed paper is precious. We have photographed it, so maybe there is a chance to recreate it. Those wines are something else. It is worth a try to plant them there although the villages here are good at cleaning poles….. hope all is well. Hugs from Colombe ❤❤
I was so shocked that you didn't purchase the bed crown and then surprise you did. It will be fab in that b&b room. I LOVE that room. It will be gorgeous when it is done. I have never seen wallpaper with netting behind it. That's a new one for me. I vote that paper as the most hideous one ever😂 Glad that at least one pole will be moved. It's too bad they have to stay but the beautiful chateau, flowers, and gate will cover that up! 🥂
I saw the bed crown and my pulse was quickening.,….😊😂. I will start to restore it soon. It’ll be perfect in the room. The bedroom is so light filled and welcoming. Can’t wait to move forward. 😊❤😊. Love from Colombe where the ONE pole will move. Yay. 😊
I love that blue and white wallpaper, maybe you could have a few rolls printed and use it in the new bathroom???? Was trying to think how you could fit a full bathroom in that space, even with the cupboard removed???? I would think a shower cubicle would cut into the room to much, so all I can come up with is a slipper bath under the window with shower over, sink left of the door and WC on the right!!!!
That space does not have a waste pipe for a toilet. The WC will be separate in the room. There is a radiator in front of the window, so no tub shower can go there. Don't worry, we have it all figured out. Thanks! 😀
The wallpaper is apparently from about 1650. It is indigo block print on paper. The paper is small pieces that were put together. We will have a shower room in the space and the en suite toilet is in a different spot. Wait and see. Huge hugs ❤❤❤
Ha ha Patrick you never know what treasure you have. Ruby’s might be just out of reach at the moment waiting for you both to find. Keep your 👀 peeled. 😘 Great news the pole is being moved “pew” 😅
I loved seeing the various layers of wallpaper. Sections of our stairwell have so many different layers. Over the years they have put one layer on another layer, on another layer, 4 or 5 layers. It is thick and heavy and looks like a derelict house with the wallpaper falling off. I tried regluing the worst parts, but it is already slowly sagging again. Seeing the different styles of paper is interesting. I have to agree that top paper was awful it reminded me of the easily wiped tablecloth that would be used on a picnic table. The white with the blue design is lovely, I would love something like that on my bedroom walls. Saving pieces of the older wallpaper is a great idea. I love watching you work, so much tidier than others I have seen.
This was a relaxing video and happy to see the way you take time to dismantle the built in cupboard rather than breaking it up with force as so many renovators do these days😢 So much going into landfill and not re purposed seems criminal to me so thankyou for your meticulous way of slowly uncovering the secrets of the chateau history which i find fascinating too❤ good health to you both and long life. My 80 yr old brother died this week and never finished a reno he was doing for a client but he never stopped working and enjoying life.🥰
I agree Sally. Don’t waste good materials. We will reuse the cabinet and happily so. No force needed. The secrets we discover are just amazing. Now, I am so very sorry for your loss. Our condolences and may God bless his soul. Much love from us at Colombe to you and your family. 🤗🤗🤗
I love to watch your blog and listen to the Vivaldi, 4 Seasons. It brings me back to when my late husband was alive and we would sit in his music room and listen. Thank you for that !!😊🤗
Great video! The demolition of the little bathroom 2 thumbs up ! Nice discovery of the older wallpapers. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend ❤❤❤ p.s. love the cabinet / China display in the background ❤ I always looks forward to what will be your intro background ❤
Thank you so much. We made some more progress. 🎉🎉 That hugs buffet is so pretty and the clock keeps great time. Love the chime too. ❤. We were thinking about where to sit next 😂. Honestly. Love your comment. Hugs. 😊😊😊
Enjoy watching you guys, when will you get the kitchen cabinets tops, finished in your kitchen , Patrick you should wear a mask, when tearing out old walls, and repairs, old dust and bacteria could cause lung problems. You should hire some young highschool kids, want to make a little money to buy school clothes, to do some yard work, cut and dig up the many vines growing wild everywhere, watch some of the other people how their decorating there chautues, , you'll get some good ideals also...you did a great job in the kitchen, can't wait to see the rest of your projects..🙏😃😃😃💕
Thank you Judy. Well…… it is vacation time in France. 😮. I wish I could give you even a hint 😂. You are right….. I often forget my mask……. 😮😮😮 We need some dedicated volunteers to help. I am finishing up the bathroom with marble and paint soon. 😊😊😊 We watch many vlogs and have two art historians who help us. 🎉🎉. Thank you for being with us on this journey through the chateau. ❤❤❤
🤣😂🤣. Not particularly attractive that gold pattern. 😮. Hope all is well sweetie. The blue is sooo cheerful and at least 300 years old. We are having wind, rain and temps around the 60s. Quite lovely. Love and miss you ❤❤❤❤
What lovely blue paper behind the cupboard covering can't wait to see how this renovation goes thanks for sharing it with us take care and see you both soon 💕🌼🤗
It is an amazing paper. Hope you will like the design. Not ancient but then again……. There were no bathrooms in 17th century France. 😮😮😮. So we do the best we can. Huge hugs. 😊❤😊
Am so pleased you have been able to get the pole removed 🎉 May I say how much I appreciate the music that you play particularly J S Bach love the Brandenburg concertos my favourite Baroque period that I adore both music and architecture ❤ Kind regards Nicholas
Salut Nicholas. Like you, I adore the baroque era. Music and architecture. Opera and clothing, how opulent. Bach and Händel with Mozart and Gluck……. All day long. Very much appreciate you sharing. And that pole being removed……. We are so grateful to Fabienne our Mayor. Sending you love and hugs from Colombe. ❤❤
speaking of hidden treasures, you guys are the hidden treasures... !! i found your channel thru tony and jane, who i also enjoy very much and i love what you guys are doing ..
Exciting to see a new bathroom being born! Lovely floral wallpaper and border under that ugly Plaid! Great fun antiquing with Tony and Jane! Stone pillars look great without all the ivy! So fast growing! Cheers!
Wow, you had a ripping good time Patrick and accompanied by Stuart's great music choice....perfect!!! The original wallpaper with the blue flowers would no doubt be a lovely save in a frame perhaps. I always enjoy my visits with you two!
Thank you Norma. It was satisfying to tear that out. ❤😊😂. I think Stuart has now found 7 layers of wallpaper. We will show them soon. It’s fantastic. Huge. ❤❤
Greetings guys from Australia, when I see a brocante like the one in this video,it makes me weep.I saw at least thirty items I would have bought on the day.Absolutely love your channel, only wish I were there.
It is hard for us too to say…… Nope, we don’t need that right now! 😮😂. And then I say: But…… Not easy to step away at times. Sending you hugs to Australia and thank you for your wonderful compliment. 😊❤😊❤
Hi!!! Good to see the progress,i loved the blue & white wallpaper you found behind the cupboard, would look lovely in your bathroom, love how they have all these brocantes in france, you can find some interesting things.😊
Can I just say I love the music! It's my Saturday and I'm just relaxing watching what you have been doing! The music just makes me feel so happy!! Thank you so much
This “water closet”. Confuses me…a sink and a bidet. Did they use a bedpan and Chuck it out of the window?🤷♀️😂😂. I love all of the investigating and discoveries.💗
Hi Sarah. They used bedpans for a long time. They are all up in the attic…..😮😂😮. But the WC is right next door. We will be working on that shortly. Huge hugs. 😊😊
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 thanks Patrick. There are always good reasons for the things we find in historic building that confound me. In all of these cases, when I have all of the information, the things that confused me, make sense.💗💗💗
It is cheaper not to put the broadband underground. I know because that is what is going on in the Northern Neck of Virginia. We will have it installed in the house next week. We are so looking forward to it!
I was thinking same but I have noticed a new trend of making the entire room shower-able! My SIL just did this in a small room. The entire room is ceramic tiles, floor & ceiling too. There is a toilet & sink, all ceramic. The shower hardware, flexible handle only, is on one wall and the tile floor near it is angled so water can drain! My daughter & granddaughters use it daily. She says you simply wipe everything with a towel when finished and use the fan in the ceiling. I haven’t tried it myself but I will next visit.
It will good to see that pole gone and the pillars look good love the blue on that wallpaper will we see more of the grounds and what you ended up growing nice to see the renovation and more digressing please lol
😘🥰😘 Jim. Pole was huge good news. And we worked so hard on the pillars….. those vines have no decency! 😂. That blue is real indigo blue print. How amazing! Maybe Stuart can, one day, recreate the print. We will do a quick view of our veggie garden soon. We have tomatoes! A lot. Love it. I digress naturally 😂😂😂. And it will happen….. I cannot help it 🤯😲🤣. Sending you love from Colombe and thank you for your wonderful support. ❤❤❤
The last bathroom demo came out lovely so I’m sure this will to that wallpaper was hideous, I’m happy about the pole being taken down, an Patrick are you ok the Mosquitoes seem to be attacking your ankles like crazy try rolling tea tree oil on them to keep them at bay an heal them at the same time, the same thing happens to me when I go to the south,an you found a beautiful bed crown maybe you can ad some sheers to the curtains to go around the bed to keep the pesky Mosquitoes from biting, anyway love seeing Tony an Jane your videos are always fun💕 an we’re are your beautiful flower bouquet it’s amazing how you put them together
The demo went really well. I will try tea tree oil. They love me…… 😮😮😮😮. Aren’t they terrible? Glad you like the bed crown. I’m in love😊. Let’s see what we can do. The pole going 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Fantastic. Sending you love from Colombe. ❤❤❤
👍👍 This original blue flower wallpaper was a pleasant find, but the subsequent wall coverings got progressively worse. As they say, " There's no accounting for taste!" I am looking forward to seeing your interpretation for the space. It is curious that the paneling framing the doorway is missing about 4 inches of panel on the left side as compared to the right side. Are you sure that there is no gap behind that oak wall? It's not usual that the symmetry is off in French period homes. Perhaps you'll find an answer on the alcove side of the wall, or it may simply be that they weren't concerned with symmetry because it is, after all, only a bathroom. Curious that's all. 🤔
the oak wall only consists of the thick oak panels, and they were just wallpapered on both sides (bathroom and alcove). there is nothing else to that wall except those panels/planks of wood.
Hi there 😊. They were not concerned about symmetry in the bathroom. I wish they had been. 😮. The oak wall in itself is quite impressive. 400 year old oak planks. The blue paper is amazing. Indigo block print on smaller paper that was then put together. Wonderful. Huge from Colombe 😊
@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 yes, the blue floral design block print paper is quite exquisite. Those oak panels look in great condition for 400 years old. As a precaution, while they're exposed, I'd treat them with woodworm preventative. But, I'm sure you already thought of that and probably have a large supply of product on hand, what with all the old wood found in châteaux. 🫂
That's a beautiful wallpaper find! It's at least mid 1800s if not older I think. I remember you said you ordered a wallpaper from a Swedish company specialized in period and handprinted papers, was that possibly the company called Lim och Handtryck? I know this comapny has several papers in exactly that intense cobalt blue. Often printed together with white on thick unbleached paper made from pulp, with a slightly light paper bag tone of brown, which is quite beautiful, makes the blue pop. Most of these are recreated from originals found around in historic houses of Scandinavia, a few in chateaux/country palaces, some from other types of properties both distinguished and simple. Blue was always favored in the north. There's one in this blue from the 1770s I think, most from the mid to late 1800s when the hand engraved roll printing technique really had its hayday. They also have blue borders. And some wider borders in different colors with grecian muses in the neoclassic style that might match your gilded running dog ceiling rose in the Grand Salon. I love that bedroom! It's like a larger version of my own, only the beautiful French countryside to look at from the bed! I'd love a bedcrown like that, but they are nearly impossible to find here! 😢 Not even at auction. We should do an exchange: You commission me to find you whatever Swedish Gustavian or Rococo furniture you want and you pick up a few things for me from the broccantes I can't find here 😁 I know you're busy but a girl can dream? Anyway I'm super curious to see what you do to this room! I'm still trying to figure out my redecoration of my livingroom, and my bedroom is next! Inspiration is exactly what I need! Sadly my bathroom is another story altogether 😭... Oh and I love boston ivy but that clearing was SO satisfying to see. A thought: If I were you I'd frame fragments of the old wallpapers in a pretty frame and include it in your guestrooms as a little point of interest and historic decor for your guests. It's always nice to know the story of a room. 💕
I think you are absolutely right about the wallpaper. We found some more……. We will have to some serious research to do about research, when we have a bit more time. Love you sharing your knowledge! Sorry about your bathroom…… 😳. We have ordered the wallpaper and are making steady progress……. Very satisfying. We have unbleached paper in the largest bedroom. It is now so dark brown, it is not pretty 🤣😂🤣. Back to renovations. Hugs from Colombe. 👍🏻💕👍🏻
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Ah, I can see how unbleached paper that's not been treated, ie on the surface with some form of shellac or uv resistant laquer would darken over time. Untreated paper always does. That intense Ultramarine blue became all tge rage around the 1860s and for a long time. In earlier days, that deep blue was very expensive, and only for royalty, and before that, it was only aquired by use of ground up Lapis Lazuli gemstones from what today is the Afghanistan region, and some places in South America I think, more expensive than gold, and by law everywhere in Europe reserved only for religious motifs representing the Madonna, more specifically her cape. So imagine with the advancement of chemistry and industry, suddenly this otherwordly deep blue that both absorbs and reflects light, becomes available to the public... What a craze! It's been found in wallpapers from all types of houses from the time. So even if it wasn't cheap, even commoners who'd been stenciling their walls by hand with earth pigment colors, splurged on pretty blue paper! Whats interesting too, is this pigment doesn't oxidize like the untreated paper, or other colors such as reds, which fade very quickly. This goes for silks and fabrics too. In fact, one of the queens bedrooms in the royal palace in Drottningholm outside Stockholm (the current king and queens residence) from the 1700s was restored some years ago, and the chinese silk on the wall was carefully measured and photographed and a sample cut and order placed for a bespoke copy at no modest cost. It would take a long time to make test samples and then deliver the full order, so this was all done before the dismantling of the room. The renovation involved all upholstery and bedcrowns etc, it had to cooridinate and the idea of course was to be as historically accurate as possible. Silk selfdestructs over time, is UV sensitive and sensitive to drying out. So as long as photography and living memory has served our perception, the walls were clad in a light blue silk. Upon actual dismantling, the underside of the stretchers where the fabric was unexposed to light, revealed the fabric was an absolute Chinese laquer RED! It was such a surprize, I think it even changed the perception of her very personality! The entire order had to be redone, all the other fabrics, and it led to new insights into what the frescoes and paints throughout might have actually have looked like. The idea things were all in pastels in the rococo and gustavian era is likely as false as the idea antiquities marble sculptures where unpainted and white. Aesthetics change alot over time. The one material that's held up best over time is anything painted with pigment, linseed oil and fresh egg emulsion. Like Michelangelos Sistine Chapel. Only layers of muck, dirt, smoke from incense made the colors look poetically subtle. I remember after the resoration. The garish result absolutely chocked everyone. But this is what it looked like, and it makes complete sense. Bc the commission was the Vatican, and the brief was the worlds only true peek at Paradise. So more is more, and at unlimited expense! I'm so fascinated by the history of colors and paints, and have a mind to make my own egg and oil emulsion paint for my walls, as nothing is more beautiful to look at. I've only made them for art, ie pantings before, and it's a piece of cake honestly. (its what most of the masters used for underpainting). But it has to be used very fresh, keeps only for days refrigerated ( very much like home made mayonnaise), and it's hard to color match batches perfectly, so it has its challenges. You mix enough to cover one layer of a wall at a time. And work wet on wet to cover one entire area. Then on to the next one. Dries pretty fast for a second layer. And you can get amazing transparent glazes or dead matte full coverage as you please. The luminocity is unique. It can also be scubbed with panel brushes to a high gloss, and works just as well on wood, panelling, and furniture etc. Over the following 4-8 months the dry color cures to an extremely durable surface. It's cheaper than high end brand paints, more historically accurate, more sustainable and no allergens when dried. Open diffusion (meaning its breathable). Only not that great in high humidity areas. It's what all the renaissance frescos are painted with and was common until pretty recently, although on monochrome walls of less noble homes kasein or cellulose glue was more widespread than using eggs and cheaper. Which is basically chalk paint, and was used on ceilings until at least the mid 1900s. And why you see alot of cracked and crumbling white ceilings, bc people just painted over it with modern paints and chalkpaint won't hold up for it. Egg-oil emulsion holds up most things except very humid walls. The materials are cheap, can be locally sourced, and you can chose any pigment in the world basically. It was invented to make oil painting affordable to cover large areas. There are companies here that supply all the dry ingredients measured in bags for specific colors if you want to try it out yourselves on some project sometime. Like a cake mix! 😀
Interesting fun video as usual Patrick and Stuart! Love watching your renovations and your brocanting. Removing the vines certainly did make the gates come to life. So satisfying to watch everything you do. Have a great weekend!
Happy Sunday Linda. Hope all is well. Thank you as always for a wonderful comment. ❤. Removing the vines was just lovely. 😂. Hugs and love from Colombe. ❤
The two of you are amazing. Loved the video. I thought that you might have bought that one table lamp. It was so different. I have boxes of Rochester lamps that need work with extra parts. No one here wants them. Antique shopping has gone down a lot here. Kids don’t want the stuff (antiques) any more. My Dad used to fixed the Rochester lamps and I would sell them or other dealers would buy them. I closed my shop years ago. Keeping up with the yard work and renovating are two full time jobs.
Hi Linda. Thank you for your kind comment. 😊❤😊. We are slow buying lamps because we don’t know how all the rooms will look. 😮. It is a shame that young people are not interested. I hope it will change again. Great memories of your dad. Hugs from Colombe. 😊
I enjoyed the stroll through the street fair, so much eye candy. Can you tell me the name & the composer of the music you played during your street fair walk, it was sublime 🎻
I just spent the last two days binge watching your videos and I'm loving them!!! I'm now subscribed and am looking forward to more. You two work so hard and it's paying off.
That face you looked at with Tony would be a great wall fountain! Maybe make a silicone mold putting in a hole in his mouth so you can create more than one? Then you can have them dotted around the property ❤
The face was called a green man, it was actually an antique architectural corbel and it was expensive. I think you can already just buy green man fountains for the garden.
Great work guys!! A new crown, friends and demo on a room! I’m so glad you had such a productive meeting with the gentleman from Little Green!! It bet it feels really good to know where and how you’re going to proceed on the two BB salons 😊! Excellent work on those vines 😮 I can’t believe how invasive and fast growing they were.
Thank you very much. It was a productive week with some fun as well. Vincent was just amazing. He really helped to focus our ideas. Huge hugs from us at Colombe. ❤
Hi Stuart & Patrick, So happy there will be one pole taken down 👏 is there a reason the other two poles need to be left where they are ? I’d be planting some of that fast growing vine, you took down from the front gate pillars Patrick, very, very close to the other two poles🎄when the work has been completed 😉 🤣 Always love watching you going on a treasure hunt! I’m just amazed, what beautiful items are being sold at the markets ! for a second I thought there was another chandelier going home with you 😊 the bed crown is a great find 👌 Take care 🥰💖
They are too cheap to dig them in like they do most places. Oh well…… 😮😮😮 The markets here can be incredible. We are looking for a pair of chandeliers for the larges bedroom in the chateau…… 😊😮😊. I started on the restoration of the bed crown. I love it. Huge and thanks from Colombe. ❤
The entrance looks much more stately without the vine. I have the same issue and am constantly removing unwanted growth. The vintage blue wallpaper is very nice. You are both doing a great job with the renovations. Take care my friends, Ralph Rocchiccioli
The entrance needs to be all clean. Absolutely no vines on the pillars! I agree. They are so rigorous. 😡😤😡. That old wallpaper is precious. We love it. Hugs from your friends at Colombe. ❤❤
Actually I enjoyed the lack of Patrick digressing. Had fun at the Brocant and my feet didn’t even hurt. You guys are so skilled. I watch so many of you who are redoing chateaus and marvel your determination and abilities.
Patrick, that blue color on the wallpaper in the closet is beautiful! Maybe it’s a historic color from centuries ago. Looked like there was maybe a little soft gray color as well as crisp white color. So pretty. Good luck getting a piece of it off that wall Stuart. That Brochante was wonderful! So many things I would love to buy but I’m broke too😅
Hi Kathy. The blue is natural indigo. Devine colour. It was sold for thousands of years. And still is. Maturation will try his best. And that Brocante. Amazing. 😊😊😊. Thank you
I love the old blue. How cool’. I’m glad to hear at least one pole is coming down. Yay! Patrick is great at demolishing 😮
The old blue is absolutely stunning. We love it. We kept it on the wood to maybe recreate it. And indeed, the true eyesore is being moved. How great is our mayor! ❤❤❤
I finally learned to deconstruct that allows to reuse the materials.
And what did they put on instead……..😲😡😖
I waited for one little gem…..
I loved Patrick’s demo, it was so methodical and tidy. Such a relief from the usual sledgehammer demo.
Thank you so much. We are committed to reusing what we can and this was good wood…… 😊. Appreciate you noticing. Hugs❤❤❤
I just love watching how both of you share and create together, helping each other with each new adventure that the Chateau presents!
No one knows what they will encounter when they start on an adventure like this! And Patrick digress all you want , it makes us laugh and enjoy the journey with you both that much more!
Thank you very much. What a kind comment. Made my day. I will digress again…….. I can’t help it 😂😂😂. I just do. Sending hugs from Colombe. ❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Hugs from Oklahoma to you both!
Oh what a beautiful room. Looking forward to the renovation. Great progress Patrick and Stuart👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Barbara. ❤😊❤
I loved watching the time lapse of work in the bathroom. Great job!
Thank you Allan. 😊😊😊. It was a great start. Liberating comes to mind. ❤❤❤
Just WOW! The antique blue and white wallpaper with border is very pretty. I love that the little bathroom has that great window in it. Thanks for sharing.
Isn’t that window something? Fantastic and then the wallpaper….. indigo blue. Fantastic. Thank you for watching ❤
Can’t wait to see the toile de Stuart room. Stuart, your design is so beautiful!
Thanks so much!😀
❤❤❤
How exiting to find the lovely blue wallpaper behind the cabinet. Boy how styles can change from beautiful to what were they thinking. Patrick you took the cabinet apart in such a way I'm sure you will find a use for the wood on future projects. Just a reminder, you are rich! You have each other, your health, your loving family (some really hairy ones), friends and don't forget your Maire. (It is nice to dream though, now wake up and snap out of it. I for one and I'm sure there are many others that will agree we know you two are always working on something whether you show us now or at a later time. Good job on that ivy too. Hugs to all and stay well 😘
Thank you! 💕
That wallpaper was soooo pretty and then what? 😂😂😂. What were they thinking indeed. ❤
I might rebuild the cabinet for storage in the workshop. It is all stored away. We sure have all those blessing and I thank you for reminding us. I sometimes forget with all the work. Sending you love from Colombe ❤❤❤
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452
Happy to remind you. 🥰
thank you! ❤️
Thank you. That is true. We can work on different projects. Huge hugs ❤
The room has so many possibilities, I'm sure you will make it fabulous!
We hope so. We have the concept for the bathroom and the wallpaper. We believe it is going to be a great room to stay in. ❤😊❤
@@marshawargo7238😂😂 true
Nature is quite amazing, I agree. It was sooooo fast. 🤯😡🤯. And now they look all lovely again. Yay. Hugs. ❤
At least not in your line of vision😊
Love how you two find joy in everything you do! Thank you for making us smile❤
Hi Nancy. Isn’t nature amazing? Even when it is not convenient 😂😂😂
Pole situation is a relief. Thank you for your very kind comment. Hugs from Colombe ❤
I'd plant some of that Fast Growing stuff around the poles!😂
We have done some remodeling in our house and we have found old coins under floors and behind cabinets. So now we put a current dated coin back. Behind cabinets and under our new floors. We also write the date and ask our carpenters to sign and date the back of base boards, flooring, and in the attic.
I love your idea. We found signatures from 200 years ago in the plaster. The current coin is fantastic. Thank you for sharing. Hugs
You are very busy!! Love the historic paper!
We love it. And yes, we are 😮😂😮. Hugs
That old blue and white wallpaper looks lovely. I am sure the bathroom will look great when you are done. I am sure you both will work your magic on the bathroom and the bedcrown
I have a weed vinr that gtows in my back garden. Lots of love to you both.❤
Thank you, Peter! 😀
Oh is that wallpaper 😮Australia will see you in the morn 😘

Those figural candelabra on the side board❤❤
Glad you like them. About 1880……. Hope all is well. They’ll grace our dining table one of those dinners this fall……. Love from Colombe ❤❤❤
The great news is that you're getting fiber optic!!
We cannot wait. October earliest but no more Starlink. , 😂😂😂. 😊😊
I agree with you about the pillars at the gate.
👍🏻🥰👍🏻
I'm quite happy about the moving of that one post - not much, but in any case better as it is now ...
Absolutely perfectly put. Thank you ❤❤❤
I like the pattern on the skirting board, very pretty. Lots of interesting things at the brocante.
Me too. Loved the Brocante and the items and would have bought more….. 😮😊😂
Hi darlings. Ivy is such a nuisance it gets everywere ans can smother trees. I love the bedcrown. So glad that the pole next to the entrance will be removed. The wallpaper with the blue floral print is gorgeous. Pitty you did't find ant treasure😊 but you still have other rooms to restore so who knows what you will find😉
The weather has completely changed here, from weeks hot and dry to now days of storms and rain. But the temperature is still oké. The rain was well needed for agriculture. Have a very nice weekend. Hugs and kisses also for the 11x 🐕. 😘🥰🌻🌞
Hello sweetie. Ivy and vines can be great……. However…….😮😂
The wallpaper is fantastic. I will continue to look for treasures….. even a fake diamond would do 😂😂😂
Like you, we went from hot to rain and storms. But not as bad as you had them. Hang in there. Love from us ❤❤❤
Can't wait to see what you guys do with that bathroom. Your other bathroom is so pretty.
Hi Linda. We hope this one will be very elegant. 😊😮😊. We are on the way and excited. Hugs from Colombe. ❤
Hugs ❤❤
@patrickjourneytothechat That's awesome, I hope you find more x
I love what I can see of the pretty blue and white wallpaper. ♥️
It is so pretty. Maybe one day Stuart can recreate it and we can reprint it. ❤😊❤
Another item for your store, if he’s interested in giving it a try. 🙂
My fairly little house is just the right size for me, but I do sometimes wish that I had more rooms, to have fun with different designs.
Many hugs to you both!! xx
Thank you very much, Stephanie! 💕
Yay. 😊
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452. As soon as I saw the bed crown I just KNEW you’d have to have it Patrick😂. You made the other one so beautiful!
Love your comment Pam. ❤❤❤. Thank you. I’m not giving up hope of finding a gem. 😂😂😂
And the pole….. I love our mayor. Happy weekend from Colombe.
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Have a great weekend yourselves. 🎉🎵🎶😘
How interesting to discover such pretty wallpaper. Have a good weekend.
Thank you! You too! 💕

The bedroom will look fantastic when done. Good news on the pole

Thanks so much! 😊😊
The wallpaper is so pretty and that buffet….. makes me smile, every day. Hugs 😊
It is cheaper not to put the broadband underground. I know because that is what is going on in the Northern Neck of Virginia. We will have it installed in the house next week. We are so looking forward to it!
Hello from Hampton, Virginia!
Yes it is cheaper. Like you, we are looking forward to getting it installed. And I am envious you get it soon. Good for you. Love it. ❤❤❤
I dont think there will be enough room for a shower even with the closets taken out. I love the sweet blue wallpaper, it is so pretty.
No? You will have to keep watching to see what we do. 😀😀
Maybe you are right…… 😊😮. Let’s see. ❤
@@kathyeyesopen4078😊❤
Really love the blue wallpaper. Can’t wait to see what you do with the room! ❤
Thank you so much. We were amazed by the vibrant colour too. Love it. Now we will try to do a blue room too. Hugs from Colombe ❤
I love love the violin music. Thank you !
It is J. s. Bach. Lovely. ❤
Look forward to the new bathroom.
We hope it is going to look great. Fingers crossed. ❤❤
@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 hopefully Stewart can recreate that print to go with his amazing prints he design would look amazing
That blue floral wall paper is gorgeous! I enjoy a good demolition job!
It is so pretty and vibrant. I do too. Love demos. ❤😊❤
The blue wallpaper is lovely! Thrilling progress! Thank you for the video!
Hi Daniel. I agree. Indigo block print on paper. Lovely is the word. ❤❤
Great job in the bathroom. Love the bed crown and thank goodness that pole will be relocated. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
Thank you for your comment! 😊. We are progressing 🎉🎉🎉
I am excited to get this bed crown back to looking gorgeous. ❤. Hugs from Colombe.
I'm very glad you werr able to get the pole issue resolved somewhat to you satisfaction. Ph so many pretty things to buy!
We are very happy about that too. We have to restrain ourselves. Only things we need right now. Mostly 😂😊😂. Hugs from Colombe ❤
lavender, peppermint oils😅.The best is OIL of Lemon Eucalyptus 🍋 x at least you'll smell yum 😅😅
@@JourneytotheChateau ok, my curiosity is sated. Thanks.
Yay! No big, bad suprises.🙂
We should do an exchange: You commission me to find you whatever Swedish Gustavian or Rococo furniture you want and you pick up a few things for me from the broccantes I can't find here 😁
I know you're busy but a girl can dream?
Enjoyed seeing behind the scenes.
❤❤ thank you.
I enjoyed the stroll through the street fair, so much eye candy.
Can you tell me the name & the composer of the music you played during your street fair walk, it was sublime 🎻
Hi Laura. It is a great fair. The Music is one of J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto. I always loved them. Hugs from Colombe. 😊😊
Danke 🙏
I just spent the last two days binge watching your videos and I'm loving them!!! I'm now subscribed and am looking forward to more. You two work so hard and it's paying off.
Thank you l 😀😀💕💕
Hi Peter. Thank you so much. ❤. It is a huge help to get subscribers for UA-cam. 😊. What a wonderful comment. Hugs from Colombe.
That must have been satisfying
It absolutely was. ❤❤❤
Good idea
Great work guys!! A new crown, friends and demo on a room! I’m so glad you had such a productive meeting with the gentleman from Little Green!! It bet it feels really good to know where and how you’re going to proceed on the two BB salons 😊! Excellent work on those vines 😮 I can’t believe how invasive and fast growing they were.
Thank you very much. It was a productive week with some fun as well. Vincent was just amazing. He really helped to focus our ideas. Huge hugs from us at Colombe. ❤
Hello from New Port Richey Florida USA
Hi there. Thank you so much. I loved my 5 year stay in Ft. Lauderdale. Hugs from Colombe. ❤
❤❤❤❤❤ lovely.
Thank you so muc ❤❤❤
I would call that vine Creeping Charlie, indomitable.
It’s a creeper and can cover 3 story buildings. 😮😮😮😮
Hi Stuart & Patrick, So happy there will be one pole taken down 👏 is there a reason the other two poles need to be left where they are ? I’d be planting some of that fast growing vine, you took down from the front gate pillars Patrick, very, very close to the other two poles🎄when the work has been completed 😉 🤣
Always love watching you going on a treasure hunt! I’m just amazed, what beautiful items are being sold at the markets ! for a second I thought there was another chandelier going home with you 😊 the bed crown is a great find 👌
Take care 🥰💖
A climbing sm rose 🌹
They are too cheap to dig them in like they do most places. Oh well…… 😮😮😮
The markets here can be incredible.
Thank you.
I love watching you guy's you make video so interesting
❤😊❤. Thank you so much.
Amazing. 😊😊😊. Thank you
