That point is overstated. As long as hair styling is permitted, along with nails and wearing of jewelry is permitted then the effects are minimal. No one argues that school uniforms, work uniforms, team jerseys, etc. are especially dehumanising. It's when you combine a featureless unadorned set of clothing with head shaving, allowing no jewelry or facial hair, no makeup, etc. you see a dehumanising effect.

@@helbent4I mean any uniform is a bit dehumanizing in nature when all your life you’ve had the freedom to wear whatever you want. It’s all perspective. People who grow up wearing uniforms don’t feel that way because it’s the norm for them, and eventually everyone just gets used to it. It’s more about the taking away of freedom than the uniform itself that causes the dehumanizing effect.

@@helbent4school uniforms are actually used for taking away individuality. On the record a school will say it's so that nobodies economic or social standing to reduce bullying but it does cause a loss of identity that is designed to create more compliant students. Just because people don't mind being different and disruptive doesn't mean that it doesn't work. The disruptive students are seen as being outliers although real world results are far from experimental results and you have to take into account those studies all happened quite some time ago when ethics weren't exactly high priority or even a consideration.
Tl;DR: they say it's one thing but it's multiple effects including coercing students to be good.

Well they did have a period of resource wars right before the bombs dropped, so things probably had to be made a lot more durable out of necessity and advanced recycling tech was probably developed rapidly too. Plastic would have became rare and expensive once oil started to run out, so they couldn't just churn out cheap, disposable plastic crap like we do now. That could also be an explanation for why everything is so aesthetically 1950's (besides the whole cultural stagnation and never-ending cold war explanation). That's the last time period before plastic was super widespread, so when they were forced to go back to the materials and construction methods from that time period maybe they also readopted that period's industrial design.

  • @darkninjacorporation

My headcanon is that Vault-Tec had been building Vaults pre-war for so long that they had time to revise the suits multiple times throughout the process. Maybe the earliest vaults built were supplied with the earliest suits designed, and VT never bothered with (or had time to) going back and resupplying old vaults with updated equipment. That’s why I just assume the Vaults in Fallout 1 and 2 are just plain rubber body(fetish)suits with almost no technology in them but they’re designed to be supplied in the thousands to be replaced when they break or recycled like you said. The suits in 3 and NV are 2nd gen and take the opposite approach of being designed to be so durable and modular that they’ll hopefully never need to be replaced at all. Then, for 4 and 76, Vault-Tec designed the 3rd gen combining the best attributes of both previous designs. A comfortably loose yet still form fitting jumpsuit that’s durable, modular and packed with modern tech. That’s why we’ve only seen them supplied to the absolutely newest Vaults built more or less a year before the war like 111 and 76.
I could be totally wrong, and there might be plenty of lore proving otherwise but I find it to be the easiest to mentally explain.

Capital and Mojave suits seem more accurate as utility suits. Baggy suits give more standardization to the manufacturing to where you just make them in reference to chest diameter and adjust the sleeve and leg lengths. 38R, 38L, 38S, like how utility jumpsuits are sized in reality. Skin tight could be a little uncomfortable if they don't fight right, so having some extreme room or length is better because all you'll need is a belt or to roll the sleeves or pants slightly. And the production could be slightly more expensive. And corpos always like cost cutting
I also imagine the Capital and mojave suits are made out of a thinner material that tears easily because if the sleeve or pant leg gets caught in machinery, it just rips off rather than potentially drag the wearer

@@ErathCzrecently started playing it, have 100+ hours already. The problem with 76 is that it's a shitty RPG. Its nature as a live service game strips your decisions from all meaning. You know nothing'll change in the world - thousand of other players are still yet to complete this quest you've just finished. I constantly get notifications like "The Scorched Queen's reign of terror has been ended", meaning someone had just "completed" the main story, but I know I haven't. It's still out there. And once I have, it'll stay there. Actually populated areas with lots of NPCs are just expedition locations. What really bugs me is that the stealing system, per se, has been entirely cut. You can waltz into a neutral raiders' camp or the BoS fort and clean off the shelves, no one will bat an eye. Attacking these NPCs will also lead to nothing. The game has a huge problem with ammo management. You constantly get loads of ammo from enemies, and have little to no methods of dispatching unused ammunition. You can't scrap it, you can't sell it to NPC vendors; you can either shoot it away, somehow manage to peddle it to other players or dispose of it in the ammo converter machine with a terrible UI. Survival system is also lacking compared to the FO4, due to the "fatigue" system being cut. (Also, the interior of the Whitespring resort is so fucking ugly, but that's beside the point.)
What I think FO76 does best is building (you have to acquire plans and recipes instead of just knowing what to do from the start), perk system (which is pretty convenient and versatile), power armor (it remains a delight from the FO4, but doesn't break as easily), the item condition system (I love how food actually spoils now), and the main quest with the world map itself keeping me pretty engaged. I've never felt bored during my 100 hours, and I often get reasonably challenged by enemies. The game generously rewards you with premium currency, letting you get a lot of stuff from the store with you just playing the game. Idk if it'll stay that way in the late game, though.

@@NiCoNiCoNiCola Hands and head need protection (one of reasons why Vault Tec suits are not good as advertised for) but with rad is about surface exposed too: in lower rad levels, having most of your body covered, will make A HUGE difference than having entire surface of the body exposed.

Bioscanners and such does make sense, but I wonder about two things...
    1. Where is the data going?
    2. Where is the tech development?
    3. Rubber is crazy hot, so why choose something so impractical for hotter temps (summer)?
    4. Youve made a lot of good points, but I really believe that for the suits to be worn above ground, you should have an outside suit. Underground, it is cold, except near geothermal vents. The surface is another environment altogether. Seems like they didn't think things through, logically or practically for residents.
    5. What about the ghoul or fev vaults?
    6. Did any vault not use suits at all?

gotta say I have always preferred the rugged utility jumpsuit style of 3/NV. The skintight rubberiness of 1 always looked flimsy (and too sexy to be practical) and the golden trim of 4/76 has the same tightness/impracticality issue while also looking a bit too extravagant for my liking

what should be added too the suits: (merely a shallow remark on my behalve) stated as such: the vault dweller inventory can contain up too 250 lbs of items if one i strong enough. maybe the suit especially the pants need an extra pocket for the fatboy i am carry-ing around. while holding a .22 silencer gun. (ha ha just messing with ya. the suits look excellent, sturdy and robuust, the colors are fine. all looks very mature and the texture varys from soft too sturdy are also fine. they are like pyama's and a good undercoat. although i am not font off any lab equitpment or any expiriments. and those attachements probably sleep and sit uncomfortable. maybe just a vault suit. without those body sensors. just a suit that principle says. i like comfort. maybe with a knitband. for personal patches too give it a personal touch at last. too break with vault tec rules and personalize them anyway. although a common sense of uniformity and standing as a team strong in the wasteland has it charmes and beauty above the cockyness of it all. if clothes makes the man. then who makes the clothes ?

It's a shame that it would be basically impossible to standardize certain designs to certain vaults. For example, vaults 101 and 111 should have been a perfect candidate for the recyclable pure rubber suits, since they were designed to never ever open. Whereas the comfort and function forward denim and leather suits would have been better candidates for vaults like 13 and 31/32/33 as they were meant to be opened, but only after a much more extended period of time, compared to the inbetween designs like we see in 76.

I don't think they used different materials for the vault suits. After all, Fallout 1 and 2 are set in California\ Nevada\ Arizona, as it FNV, so it makes no sense for them to use different suits, or for the suits in the Mojave to be the same as the ones in D.C. - literally on the opposite end of the country and continent. And then, the jumpsuits in the Capital Wasteland are different from the ones in the Commonwealth and West Virginia, despite all being set in the same general area?
No, the only reason for the suits to be different is if we go by the live-action show's lore, where they say that different vaults are run by different corporations.
Although you do make a good point about the suits having different designs based on their respective vaults' functions.

If I had to ranks the vault jumpsuits from best to worse(with no game bias) it’s probably Fallout 4, Fallout 1/2, Fallout 76, Fallout 3/NV. I’m sorry to the Fallout 3 & New Vegas fan, the games are great it’s just that the vault jumpsuits in those games looks like clunky mechanical jackets with weird metal pieces that doesn’t look comfortable/right. I also hated the weird ass vault glove they had in those games too. I’m glad Fallout 4 & 76 got rid of them.

I think the women's vault suits in Vault 69 should have been built similar to corsets albeit with deep v-necks and with a much tighter fit around the crotch and the ass, if you catch my drift. Perhaps, some midriff could've also been showing? And, yes, that's actually canon, considering where the vault number comes from.

What rubber? Try wearing a rubber suit (or even a pair of rbber gloves or boots) for a few hours. You'll quickly realize how terrible that idea is.
And to wear a skin-tight full body jumpsuit made of rubber would be totally impossible.
You'll overheat and rot in your own sweat, probably, in a couple days.
