    All due respect to the older Bond movies, but in my opinion, Casino Royale and Skyfall are the two best James Bond movies ever made, as well as the two best Bond portrayals & performances ever. The storytelling, the acting, the cinematography…top marks all the way around. Creating typical Bond outlandishness, but rooting it in modern realism & sensibility. Weaving together action, adventure, drama, and tragedy…two film masterpieces. Top marks all around, especially for Daniel Craig-who at this point, is inarguably one of the two best Bond actors ever, at the least. Sean Connery is the only other one you could even make a case for.

    • @andresferrari5859

      In my opinion which I know is not shared by many. Craig and Connery are the two best Bonds and a case can be made that Craig may be the best with his gritty portrayal of Bond. Then there are the movies themselves. In my opinion, Craig's films are the best overall. Its a shame that Timothy Dalton didn't do more films. He also played a gritty Bond and I liked him as Bond. As much as I like Rodger Moore, I feel his films as Bond are the weakest.

    • @sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052
      @sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052 3 роки тому +104

      You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think at least some of us would agree in saying Timothy Dalton was much closer to the original portrayal in the novels - does that make him a better Bond or not, I will leave everybody to judge that for themselves. As far as I go, I used to really, really enjoy both Casino Royale and Skyfall the first couple of times, but as time went on I found myself less and less enthusiastic about them. Maybe it's general fatigue, I find it unlikely for Quantum of Solace and Spectre to spoil it for me. No, I think I'm just getting tired of turning everything into some dull, gritty movie. Same thing happened to me with Chris Nolan's Batman movies, I used to really enjoy them, but then I just grew out of it. Anyway, long story short, I always thought there has to be a middle ground between Craig's gritty world and Moore's almost campy approach. Turns out it's most other Bond movies.

      Just looking at a clip here and there in advance of seeing this, not knowing any of the other cast, and hearing that voice come into the room with the shotgun--I rejoiced at hearing Finney, and even though his face was hidden by the beard, there's a tilt he does to his head, looking at the other actor with the left side of his face. I remember many people used to criticise the fact the filmmakers apparently 'destroyed a lovely, old house' in the making of this film. Au contraire, this house, both the exterior, and interior, were fabricated from scratch for the film. The outside of the house was merely an empty shell, rigged with explosives, on a British army field, in Surrey, England. All of the interior was built on a soundstage at Pinewood Studios. Still, it looks so real, and beautiful.

      I can see that in some cases, the codename theory makes sense, but how would Kincade recognise him as "James Bond" here, when he has just known him as a kid and clearly doesn't know that he works for MI6? Apart from that his parents are named Bond also, as can be seen on their tombstones near the chapel.

      @@marcokrueger3399 well I don’t know if the producers ever actually considered playing more into that theory especially for the reason you mentioned but I believe again that having a former Bond be in the same movie as the current Bond would’ve given that rumor some strength.

    I never realised, until just now, that the excellent character part of Kincaid was played by the late great Albert Finney. No surprise then that Kincaid’s character adds so much to the film. By far my favourite Bond film of all time. One other unmentioned fact about Skyfall is the music/film score. It expertly and cunningly enhances the menace of many scenes, it is dark and in some ways raises the anxiety level in what is about to happen next.

    What made Skyfall the best Bond was that it took all the formula Bond tropes and reversed them. Instead of an old man, Q was young. The high-tech gadgets were a gun and a radio. The damsel in distress was M. Instead of the villains fortress, the final fight was Bond's ancestral home. They even made Bond himself a physical wreck who couldn't shoot. He didn't even get his car until late in the movie, and the only thing he used was the machine guns. All Bond had to rely on was himself, but that was enough.

    Epic cinematography moment in this clip. Watch when Bond enters the house and leads the way. There comes a point where M changes from taking in her surroundings of the house to stopping and focusing on Bond. At that point, she's empathising with Bond and wondering how it would of been for him to grow up in such circumstances. When the camera shot changes from looking directly at M to looking at Bond over M's shoulder, Bond has drastically shrunk in size. Depiction of the little lost boy that she decided to look after under her wing. One of the best filmmaking shots of the entire series in my opinion.
