- This is the full review of the BMW R nine T pure by Knox in the Lake District - England.
Everyone at Knox loves the RnineT and its not hard to see why, great looks, great engine, nice handling, fantastic brakes, it’s a truly great all-around motorcycle package and still up there with the best heritage style bikes available in Europe in 2019 in our opinion.
The BMW rnineT pure that we had on loan from BMW Motorrad UK was the RnineT pure sport edition and comes with a few extra bells and whistles which are really nice including heated grips (fantastic), spoked wheels and LED lights, plus it has another £2,000 of SPEZIAL parts fitted to it as per below:
OTR price for R nineT Pure Sport - £10,930
Price for your spec is - £13,225
Including - Spezial (BMW’s heritage parts range) cylinder covers, under seat frame, brake and clutch levers, rear-sets, rear pegs, alternator belt cover, master cylinder lids.
You can find more of the full specs and images available on the BMW website, www.bmw-motorr....
As you can tell from the review we are fans and no doubt it is a great bike!

great and very classy review. I like the looks of the video and the high quality. liked and subbed 👍🏼
yeah except he doesn’t know what radial mounted brakes look like
Saved up for 4 years and got the original version. It's the perfect bike
The original RnineT is awesome, more sporty than this one and absolutely fantastic! Thanks, Aaron.
dont you ever find the boxer engine looks kind of odd? that is the only thing that is blocking me to buy one. it looks odd since the day I saw one, the boxer engine. Otherwise, I love to get one.
@@amotorcyclerider3230 you have to ride one. I personally love the look of the engine. It makes it look huge and wide. Compared to some bikes which looks like a bicycle.
So true. I never liked the look of boxer engines until I rode the original R nineT. It changed everything, I was instantly hooked
I have a 2014 r 1200 r and that engine make it all. Well, it’s kinda a Gt Nine t if the bike were released later on. I love to have the traditional bmw buttons witch disapears in all other models of the same year. But you can’t go wrong with that engine. I have 81000km on the clock and will keep it
Had one for two years now. 35 000km. Runs great! I absolutely love it! About the gearshift...I adjusted the lever/rod arrangement and now it's much more smooth, no clonk when putting it into first gear. :-) Oh and the bike is not too wide, your gate is too narrow!
One of my favorite bikes and the colour you mentioned looks awesome too , another great review Aaron 👌
Thanks for the feedback Andy, yes the colour choice would be mine too every time!!! Aaron 🍻
Great review!! I love this bike so much I bought one ☝️ it has an addictive sound and grunt in any gear ... i ride around 70 miles a day on country lanes, A roads and in town, it does the lot .. great bike 🤙
Awesome, great choice! Aaron, Knox
this bike is my dream .
How beautiful is it. You can have everything ,every bike. And still go for this its like the cherry on the top.
You are right, a fantastic wide Lady, "Ninette" , Rnine T pure, iconic purity. Just finished my run in time at 1212 km. Fall more in love wirh this bike with every new experience. After having run on a R45, 1980 now RnineT 2021, 27 PS to 110 PS...40 year comparison of BMW Expertise. An absolute pleasure to ride, !
Your Rhodesian German Biking Friend, Adrian :-)
Thanks Adrian! All the best, Aaron KNOX
Great review, lovely machine. For me it would be a hard choice between one of these and the new Triumph Speed Twin.
Thanks for the feedback. Both great bikes no doubt! Thanks, Aaron.
Mission Impossible 6 made me fall in love with dis bike. Cheers
Yes, of course!!! It's a great bike! Thanks Aaron Knox
Agree 😃
That was such a cool movie! I saw it in the IMAX twice!
that scene made me want to pull my hair out but thanfully im bald. they could not be arsed to make a new engine sound profile so it sounds like an inline 4 cyl in the movie... so lame
@sleepingbear rly Sherlock?
Depending on your body size, you may be able to easily top out the suspension settings on this version. My friend has maxed his settings out at 200lbs with full gear and its evident it needs aftermarket springs.
Dream bike but I think I would go with scrambler version. 👍
I wish they’d make an exact duplicate of the R100R.Always wanted one of those.
A year in and I still love my RnineT Pure. I upgraded the suspension since I’m a, um..., “thick” man... but that made a huge difference. I would buy it again...
Thats great, thanks John! 😀 Aaron.
What suspension ?
"However, the Chav within..." What a comment 😂
🤣 got to take the mick out of yourself sometimes!
This is also one of my favourite bikes. I fell in love as soon as I rode one. Never rode the Pure variant but the full fledged R NineT and Scrambler.
😀. They are great, Ive ridden the RnineT (the original with higher spec) and this one. They are very similar really and I would expect the scrambler to be too, its just a different look and different tyres etc. The original RnineT is probably a bit more sports orientated though and that suits the bike quite well! Thanks Aaron.
Great review! Sexiest bike out now and you’ve caught it at its best angles. Nice work, guys.
Thanks Justin, really appreciate the feedback! 😄 Aaron, Knox
I would love to own and customize one to look like the one in the movie The Great Escape that Steve MCQueen rode , with those big front & rear fenders .
Steve McQueen's ride was a 1961 Triumph TR6 Trophy model disguised as German BMW R75 .
Pillions aren’t mentioned. Engine wise it has the capacity to take a pillion, but not comfort or safety wise. The RnineT is most suited for solo riding.
Nonsense -- a pillion would have no trouble.
That motorcycle .....slay me 😍😍😍
I hate the name. You ever tried to do a search for it on Craigslist? Every seller spells it differently.
🤣
I never dreamed about a BMW until I found it on UA-cam in a video called the 10 best retro bikes under $10K last October. I didn't believe it and went to the nearest BMW dealer to check it out. They had one with an orange/gold tank and wired wheels for $12,250. Of course the video had a click bait but I didn't expect a bike like that under $10K. What I really liked was one with black and white tank, white fender and black aluminum wheels! That's the perfect color for that bike! I am surprised that BMW even offers the grey color; to me that ruins that great motorcycle! Anything but grey, please. (No offense!)
I searched the web for the black and white and found it only at one dealer in San Jose California, San Jose BMW, 375 miles from Los Angeles. I paid $475 to hold it and to install a Wunderlich windshield and flew up there a week later. Their price was $11,750! They picked me up at the airport and even switched the wheels for cast aluminum because what they had had wired spoke wheels but their website showed the cast wheels! I was told that it was to only bike with that color and wheels in the US at the time! The next day I was on the way home and after a stop half way overnight I got back home the following day.
That was the ride of my life! I was surprised how comfortable the ride was on the smooth freeway 101. The windshield made a big difference. The only thing I added was a pair of saddlebags and replaced the plastic oil filler plug with aluminum.
Everything you said is basically true; what I'd add is that BMW could've made the foot pegs a bit larger but for the price one cannot imagine a better roadster. I am a happy camper and this BMW makes a perfect addition to my 1999 Kawasaki Voyager XII and the 2016 Triumph America LT!
Great review, my dream bike, especially the flat twin engine.
For some reason this bike is cheaper here in USA, only $9995 (+taxes)
WHAT, only 9999? In The Netherlands the fuckers make us pay 23.000 euro's for this bike, thats about 25-26.000 dollar. What the fuck
It's 18k usd here in the Philippines :(
Are you sure? Thats even cheaper than in Germany
I paid 10995 for the base pure.
I have both Pure and Knox protection. Perfect combination. Thanks Knox for the innovation
I have this bike since 2018 (R Ninet) and still love it very much. Solid review. Mine shift effortlessly between Neutral and first so probably just a problem with the press bike.
Intro song pls
I’d like to see it with a windscreen and panniers like the old R100R.
Not enough pillion seat. 90% on my own but a very important lady on the back the other 10%... think its a great bike but cant be on my list
Fair enough, its not for everyone and I agree, the pillion seat is not as good as some other bikes! Thanks, Aaron, Knox.
Put her on a diet.
@@hudsonquay somehow don't think that will shrink her long legs
I've had an R80GS and an R100GS great bikes. Things I love about them is the shaft drive, low/ mid range. The love to go hard all day or cruise. No chains to oil or adjust- just enjoy riding them.
Solid review. Appreciate your candor. I feel the same way; I love the simplicity and beauty of this bike - so much that I I’m going to purchase one.
Thanks Matt! Aaron Knox
Oh crap.. BMW is collaborating with Old Spice now? 😕
Thanks for the video - try some loctite on the bolts for the mirrors...
Thanks Todd, great advice!! Aaron Knox
Come on man you should know the difference these are Brembo calipers but they aren’t radial mounted top spec Brembo. These are axial calipers. Sure thing they are good enough but radial mounted top spec are only on the roadster R9T the one I have so thus why I know.
Oh! my goddess main character rode this bike.
Classics are always better this is new generation version though sounds similar.
Had mine 6 years love it airbox removal Remus exhaust ac schnitzer alloys X-ray transparent covers …….
Rear shock was shit put in a Wilbers much better u don’t need to get bmw 719 parts too expensive lots of stuff around and on eBay
Bought a sport roadster in 2016 huge mods air box delete removed passenger pegs, chrome c6clinder covers decat rapid bike evo ac schnitzel wheels clips on s and on
Pure & Scrambler my two favourites in the BMW Heritage range
Suspension "nice"????? i found it horrible, first money i spent on the bike was the suspension at both ends, do that then you have an excellent machine.
Lovely bike, but not radials. I’d have the standard version which has better components, or just take my Thruxton R! Lol.
Yes cocked up on that one 🤣. The original is fantastic, ridden both and probs prefer the full RnineT as is it more sports orientated. Thanks, Aaron Knox
brand jacket, brand helmet please?
Hi, It is a Knox Urbane Pro and Knox Ford Leather Jacket. Helmet is Arai Chaser. Thanks, Aaron Knox :)
my favorite bike
Great review. I like the extras on it too. Think the Pure is the nicest of the range
Thanks Marcus! 😀
Ugly bike. Too much gimmicky twiddle dit. Cluttered. Blach.
Loose mirrors are a pain. Had that on my Yamaha. One small adjustment then your looking for two spanners to tighten it
Difficult choice Aaron R Nine or Triumphs Speed Twin actually there’s so many fabulous machines to choose from > agree it’s a benefit to able to put your own mark a machine I have quite a special Thruxton R What did you choose????
You are right Colm, there is a huge amount of choice available and almost no doubt, all are great. Of course, I could have mentioned Ducati Monster as well as another great alternative, although probably slightly less heritage! How do you like your Thruxton R? Aaron.
Radial brakes? Methinks they're axial. Nonetheless, lovely bike, and I'm seriously considering one of the RNineT range or a Speed Twin.
Yeah they are axial, just a mistake on my part. Great bike! Thanks, Aaron Knox
I'm 5'3, can I ride this comfortably?
I am always confused that no one thinks it's going to rain or get colder on a ride ..The first thing I want to find is a back rack for a duffle to carry the old Belstaff or rain gear and a sweater for after dark Maybe some long Johns ....and a different pair of gloves and a few wenches for that mirror ,, AT least this bike does not need the chain lube and wrenches for adjusting the chain half way around Scotland . I miss my 1978 R80 and my 1961 R96S with that amazing Elres Fork up front ..I would love to see THAT back in the world ... With 50 years of riding an R69s with new brakes is just about all I would ever want .This may be as close as I'll get :) . WIth the new R18 they could think of an R80 /5 modern retro ...
Nice review and beautiful scenarios! ;) nice bike too, I sit on it during Eicma and found it confortable too (I’m 1,83m and found other bikes a little small, but this one seemed to fit good)
Thanks for the feedback! Aaron, Knox
Watched the video for the 3rd time already. Its so beautifully made. I guess its time to finally get myself a pure
Hi Mina, thanks so much for the kind feedback and support. The bike really is great! Aaron, Knox.
My fav bike 🙂♥️
I want this bike 🙃
A quick advise, I have a brand new Yamaha Tracer 900 with 3 cases and several accessories. Would you change the Tracer 900 for BMW R Nine T Scrambler 2020?
Cool, what's the chill Hop on this video pls
I think what kills this bike is the non-adjustable suspension. How could a guy that weighs 250 lbs. ride the same settings than a guy who weights 165 lbs. ? That's just not gonna work. I feel you should have addressed that point. The upper model does have fully adjustable suspension and you should have mentioned that, not every rider weighs the same as you.
Do you think? On a sport bike i might agree but for road riding on, (what is really, a cruiser) im not convinced dialling in the suspension is super nessesary. Ive always found you need it a bit softer with the roads round my way because of the road ripples. At any rate, the amount of time spent discussing accessories kinda relegates this review, its a bit more of a commercial than a review. Should have done a canyon ride and taken a pillion on a 4-5 hour ride and had more to say about it. Its mooted to be able to handle a bit of off road but thete was no gravel ride either.
For a beginer, could be a good option? Thanks!!!
18 years old? 50 years old? Steady guy or crazy?
I like triumph bonneville T120 black. This bike looks disproportionate
Agreed. BMW doesn't look as nice and is overpriced.
Too wide for the gate... You better be careful, Aaron. You're starting to sound like my ex-girlfriend...
🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Those are not radial brake calipers...
finding the first gear is a 'thing'. The trick is to hold the gear lever down to find first and gently let out the clutch. It'll snick in every time.
i just rock the bike back and forth
I have 2 R9t’s and have no problems with any gear/neutral selection. Interesting that some have this problem
very nice video. keep going! i like your voice, great pictures/angles.
Thanks for the feedback!! ;) Aaron, Knox.
Snap out of it this is not a beginner bike
It's the only BMW motorcycle that looks like amazing. It's really beautiful. I wouldn't buy it because German production, motorcycle or auto, isn't reliable. But from an aesthetic point of view, this one is very very nice.
Under powered in my opinion. Should be an 1100. The spoked wheels are a turn-off. It’s the epitome of retro without any real punch.
Nicely made granted.
Think I might go for the 1200 Monster Ducati. More power. 110 is a tad lower than the Duke...At I guess 145 ish?
Really wanna buy this bike.but in my home country..the price is usd25K.. double from what you said here
Could have dropped the music and had more exhaust rasp , great review though, thank you 🙏. Agree the 719 Gold colour scheme, is stunning.
I have a 2014 r 1200 r and that engine make it all. Well, it’s kinda a Gt Nine t if the bike were released later on. I love to have the traditional bmw buttons witch disapears in all other models of the same year. But you can’t go wrong with that engine. I have 81000km on the clock and will keep it
I want to this motorbike which is going to be my first time to ride it but I'm scared at the same time because I heard many guys have accidents with motorbikes!! Overall this bike is absolutely Sick! Any advice gentlemen!?
my next bike. coming soon.
This would be the reliable bike.
However, that problem mentioned with the transmission is disturbing considering this meant to be a simple no problems bike.
NIce to know I'm not the only one that struggles finding Neutral. I would disagree with the comment it would be a good bike for shorter riders I'm 5' 11" and the reach for my arms to the controls is just a bit too far and if I was not as tall that reach would be very annoying.
This or an indian ftr?
I love bmw and my dream r nine t 👍👍
🤟🤟
I love this bike, iv got the RnineT Racer 😃
Great choice Michelle, brilliant bike! You like the Racer version? Aaron.
@@KnoxArmour 😃 Yes love it, it feels so old school compared to my s1000R 😃
Awesome review. Have my eye on this bike for a while. Would I be too tall for it though? I’m 6.1
Hi Diogo, actually Rick English, who was riding on some of the shots is about 6.1 and found it great. Best to go have a sit on one though and see yourself, overall a super great bike! Aaron, Knox.
Knox Armour thank you so much 👍🏼
I agree. I was wondering the same (6", 182cm, 165 pounds, 75KG) but really found it super comfortable with a slightly sportive seating position. I personally would lower the foot pegs a little to get a better angle on the knees.
Didn't inspire confidence in the guy I gapped in the twisties riding one whilst I was on my 2017 sv650
Well yes, but the rule is always 1- Rider 2- machine...
@@KnoxArmour yeah, I have a 2021 mt09, I can't ride it on those same roads the way I ride my 2017 sv650 but give me a season and I'll have it sorted out, its a confidence inspiring bike and handles better than the sv.
Once I learned the process of changing the air filter, it sort of ruined the idea and appreciation of it to me?
One of the best filmed reviews. 👍
Thanks Ricardo, really appreciate it! Aaron, Knox.
savage!
is it fit for a 6 ft tall slim man? Any recommendations? thanks!
Sure, actually Rick is in some of the visuals and is 6'1" and slim. Fits him fine! Thanks Aaron Knox
I'm 6" and 165 pounds, I found it very comfortable. The handle bar is just perfect. Didnt ride it for more than 45 minutes tho. I think I would lower the foot pegs to have a slightly better angle on the knees. I'm pretty certain that you could empty the tank without getting uncomfortable.
those are not radical brakes what are you talking about
Read the comments dude, it was a mistake... everyone is allowed to make one every now and then 🤷♂️. Thanks Aaron Knox
Daqui uns 30 anos chega no Brasil 🤷🏻♂️🥺💔
You must have a very low gate then. The cylinders are no wider than the bars
Received my handroid pod today but not the right fit :( sad
I would have gone for the gsx750r too mate
It is air and oil cooled
There is another gauge available too
That gold colour look mingin' and for me jars against the bike's vintage aesthetic. Maybe it's nicer in the flesh like you say.
This review is perfect!
Thanks Dario, glad you liked it! Aaron KNOX
Is there an option for an OEM tachometer?
Video was...fantastic!
Thanks Benedict! Aaron, Knox
Wow.. Option 712..specifically the cylinder covers
Love the spezial parts, really nice finishings! Aaron, Knox
@@KnoxArmour problem is we cannot purchase them as separate.. On later stage to customize the bike.. I have 2015 rninty and been mailing bmw and many subsidiary no response.. Would love to have the spetzial parts on my bike.. 😀 Hopefully it will open up later as accessories purchase.
Option 719
@@barny325 thanx for correcting.. It was typos..
@@COOLCABMAN 👍
HST have missed it:) What year is this model?
Nine t pure is my bike and i love it 🕶🕶
This is my bike im so happy!
Lucky! 😀 Aaron, Knox
Must be the UK weather making the gear shift problem..., I've had my fully customized R9T classic for 4 years and never had a problem down here in NZ.
I've been riding for over 50 years, 30 of those as a professional bike mechanic and so have ridden thousands of bikes and believe me I can't keep off it, it's that satisfying.
Yes, it could be our bike, or our freezing weather ;). Having said that Ive since talked to others who have had the same issues.. its not really a major issue, its just that it takes a few times to get it in gear. Believe they had the same issue on one of the Mission Impossible films where they had to retake a load of times due to it not going into gear from neutral very easily. All the best, Aaron KNOX
Nice review! Well done 👍
Thanks, we're trying!! Thanks Aaron Knox
Dont like the bike much, ut with the gold color and the new wheels it sure does look much better, u can see the lines more clearly
nice review! I'm looking for a retro motorcycle which is good as a first "A" bike. I really like this one & the R nine T. I also like the bonneville T100. I'm riding a CB300R right now for two years (my first motorcycle), which is an A2 bike. Do you have any idea which bike is suitable as my first real A bike? thank youuu
Thanks for the comment. Well this is a good first big bike, but we've just got the Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 and that is almost perfect for the next step up, you should check that out. Thanks, Aaron Knox
I love the look of that engine
Definately, 🔥. Thanks, Aaron - Knox
