2019 R nineT vs R nineT Pure | which should you buy?

  • What are you actually sacrificing if you go for the R nineT Pure instead of its more expensive sibling?
    Short of a few visual cues it's largely the same machine where it matters (that being the characterful boxer twin they are so well known for).
    In real world conditions I highly doubt you'll notice much disparity in braking or cornering stability.
    Either way you go, this is a timeless and reliable staple for the modern classic range.

    Very nice review! For those who are interested. The USD forks of the standard RnineT might be a bit better for heavier riders or sportier riding styles. The pure is quite soft but enough for sporty cruising. I personally prefer it (and bought it) for the grey paint the single speedometer and the looks of the classic forks (I’m not too much into gold/kashima). The rest is up to your preferences! Greetings from Germany!

    Fair, honest and insightful review. I have a 2020 BMW NineT Pure with spoke wheels and aluminum tank. I really like it. For me, the seat is fine for rides up to 3-4 hrs. I have another bike for long trips. This bike is responsive and really fun to ride.

    The marketing genius behind the R nine T ought to be given an award for design, not because it’s an innovative design, but because its design defines innovative marketing. I’ve ridden many bikes for many years and this one is certainly fun - that cannot be said for a lot of bikes out there; the balance between functional and fun is hard to strike. All that said, unless your pennies don’t matter, if I wanted to own an R nine T I’d walk quickly by the dealership and buy one that’s been gently used and fully farkled. In that category, there’s some phenomenal deals out there . . .

    The Classic Roadster R nineT has fully adjustable USD forks, adjustable (preload and rebound) rear shock, radially mounted Brembo monoblock brakes, more comprehensive instrumentation, stainless spoked wheels and a brushed aluminium two-tone fuel tank. Spec wise, it is a MUCH better machine (albeit more expensive) than the budget option Pure version which has none of the above.

    Excellent video. I sorely wish I lived in such a beautiful place. I have long been a fan of the r9t and the 2021 models look nicer than ever. I recently bought a Ducati Scambler and commute for 40 minutes through central Paris and outskirts and the Ducati seems as good as it can get for the purposes but...I am tempted to switch to the r9t just because it is so beautiful, well crafted and reliable and looks more solid and connected than the Ducati, especially for motorway riding. Have you tried it in dense city traffic? I spend half the time filtering and I'm concerned that the extra weight and width would be a handicap. I am also trying to decide between the classic and the Pure models. I think I will go for the latter with a few tweaks as I prefer the colour of the forks and doubt I would really notice the handling benefits of the S1000r ones. Keep up the good work!

    I have ridden both.
    Personally, I would spend a bit more and get the nineT.
    The Pure has a budget suspension, and gets very bouncy when ridden hard in bends.
    It also has conventional RWU forks, and dives more under hard breaking.
    Ok, the nineT is more money, but you get a lot more for it.
    Looks great with the 719 paint option.

    I have other bikes in the garage to ride , and they are all great motorcycles, but my 2015 R9T might be my favorite. Such a great bike all around and looks amazing , so customizeable , best bike for the city in my opinion. I think the power and torque is pretty good especially for the way the bike is set up. you just need more time on it and go back and forth between that bike and a few others to really appreciate the nine T. BMW nailed it with the R9T. Check it out.

    The problem with boxer is that the COG changes as you tip the bike side to side while walking the bike. When it goes, it goes very beautifully, plenty of power and torque, but you have to rev it e bit. My experience is with the racer, and it has traction control which BMW calls it ASR.

    I’m a relatively short guy, around 1,67m (5 foot 7) so I’m afraid I’ll struggle to reach the floor probably, do you think that’s a problem on this bike?

      Hey man, no worries about your height. I would hit the gym a bit tho, do some running, or other leg exercises. When driving you won’t feel the weight. But indeed when parking or manouvring somehow. Or even falling , you need to be strong enough to hold the bike. Counts for every other bike too.

    With regards to smooth and quick gear changes just apply a small amount of upward pressure on the shifter and it will pop nicely into gear when you pull the clutch in. From neutral to 1st can be a bit of a bugger and you have to get a feel for using the clutch and throttle and is my only downside to the gearbox, otherwise beautifully smooth!

    Strangely enough, my K1300S is in getting a service and what do you think I got for a courtesy bike? The R nine T. Probably because I downloaded the brochure off the web and they got my personal stuff :) Cheeky bastards. So, if I may, a brief comparison. Nowhere near the sting the K1300S has but not shabby either. Very thing is down low, where as the K1300S has it everywhere. Lighter, I'm 170 cm/5' 6" and that makes a difference. I can do more than 2,000 km's on a road trip. The R nine T would probably handle it ok but I really pack up the K1300S, tent, sleeping bag, etc. That would have to be put the the test. It is bloody lovely, a lot more relaxed than the K1300S. Probably not a bad thing.

      I don't think there's much in it for handling but the speed triple is slightly more comfortable in the saddle and I personally felt more connected to it. But it would only be a small compromise in performance for me to go with the R nine T if you prefer the looks.

    Lovely review and hits me home too. I have been with the guzzi v7 iii in mind for a couple of years now. Now that its time to buy it, i tested also the nine t pure 2 weeks ago (as my friends keep telling me that after a while with the v7 i'd like to get something bigger.
    I instantly liked the nine t ride, more muscular than the v7 and power. But the price puts me off considering all the extras i would add to make it look sexy. Im gonna go for the raw and vibrating v7 👍🏻.
    Owning a v7 yourself, how would you compare it to the nine t? Do you feel he need to get something bigger like the ninet?

    • @RarefiedRoad
      @RarefiedRoad  4 роки тому +3

      The BMW is definitely a faster bike, but it sort of depends on what you're looking for. To be completely honest I did feel the itch for a faster bike after a while of owning the V7 so I went for a Griso (very similar to the R nineT) but I genuinely feel like I made a bit of a mistake. Given real world conditions and when in the right mood I could be just as fast on the V7, again on normal roads. I took the same route home after riding this bike and honestly I didn't feel like I was missing out on the V7.

      It's much fun and easier to drive than both bikes in top of that it's full of technology away than both bikes

  • @BonuxCouleur
    @BonuxCouleur 3 роки тому

    None of these two unless you need that front fork and bigger Brembo brakes for the T, which you really don't. The one you want is the Scrambler especially if you want to get closer to a classic look. I got mine at a really low price, the aluminium tank with the welding in the middle came with it and since I have upgraded to aluminium mirrors, added a skid plate, got ride off the big plasticky support of the rego plate for a side plate instead so my rear tyre is entirely visible and it looks like a killer. The front fork is good enough and the smaller Brembos are more than enough for this bike. Now, as always with BMW one thing comes to bite you: the retail price of their OEM parts is downright scandalous. You need a replacement battery? The OEM here in New Zealand will cost you NZD584 which corresponds to USD420 and say you also want the OEM float charger to maintain your battery lifespan for as long as possible, it will cost you NZD278 that's USD200. Now, I would guess because the USA is a far bigger market, you might be able to get these for a lower price but BMW being BMW... I am pretty sure their pricing are globally insane. That's the privilege of riding a BMW. Now there are alternatives at least for this type of parts that are way more acceptable. The second drawback is that the awesome design of the R NINE T comes at a price: maintenance is not easy. Changing the battery or recharging it for instance is quite a mission because the battery is located right under the big tank so be prepared to do a fair amount of dismantling or to pay a fortune at your BMW dealer. Did it deter me from buying one? No, absolutely not. For the price I got mine, I was in Japanese territory for smaller cc and far less character. The R NINE T regardless of the one you chose is an absolute blast of a ride. There are few R NINE T in New Zealand but hips of Triumph, none of which manage to get some attention quite like the BMW. The Scrambler besides produces a very deep rumble out of the Akrapovic double mufflers. It has definitely more presence than the other models. It is not raucous per se, but it sounds bad ass. It literally enhances the sound of the flat twin. Now if like me, you could not think less of the flat twin... let me say when you ride one it feels like riding an old aircraft from WWI and that's the flat twin for you. It has a very distinct sound.

      @RarefiedRoad  4 роки тому +2

      Worlds apart. I haven't ridden the RS but I have ridden the R and a triple is so different to a twin it's unreal. As I say this is a pretty linear twin so it's smooth everywhere and probably a little softer on the throttle than the Triumph because the street triple feels alive and alert anywhere on the rev band and anywhere on the throttle if you want to go fast go for the Triumph. If you want to still go fast just not quite as fast and you sometimes want to chill out and enjoy the day then get the BMW.

      Ahh see I'm going to have to betray my Moto Guzzi brethren and say the R nineT. More reliable than the 8V but I'd say the Moto Guzzi (assuming it's working well) is currently better value second hand than these.

    I've never liked the sound of the BMW flat twin... it's more of a buzzy, monotone rumble, compared to a Triumph twin, or even an MT07 (with a nice exhaust)

    The R nineT is a handsome machine that accommodates customization gracefully. That's irrefutable. But I also thoroughly disliked the one I test rode. A blurry line can exist between "characterful" and "agricultural," but this bike was squarely in the latter camp. It's distinct lack of refinement wasn't offset by its charm (unlike your Guzzi V7, which won me over after 20 minutes). It's also uncomfortable. Immediately after, I rode Triumph's new Speed Twin - an obvious peer - and there was no contest. The Speed Twin is unquestionably mechanical, but it accompanies this with a transmission that's a pleasure to shift and satisfying controls that are noticeably more precise. Pay more for an R nineT? Never.

      I really like the speed twin. I think I prefer the engine character of the Triumph as well to be honest.

      Alex , you are 100% correct ! I’ve just read a what’s app message from a friend ... apparently he has Brembo because he swapped them out from Hayes ! (I previously wasn’t aware that’s how he did it !)

    I was expecting the R nine T and the Pure to each get 50% of this video. All that was shown of the Pure was a picture from BMWs website - no ride and no video. This was not a "Vs" video at all. Thumbs down!

    I am sick to death of having a reviewer talk about comfort...elude to the fact that your height may be different than his but he doesn't tell you his height. There are 9,999 review videos out there like this. GRADE: F

    I don't get it. I was expecting a comparison. It never happened so you don't know how the pure differs. Or doesn't. Your conclusion was ripped from your butt.
