    Kids nowadays will never know the tonal bliss of only having a Peavey Rage 15 and a metal zone though

      Oh, I think transistor amps used to be way better when they were too plain to mimic tubes. I used to play an old trannie in a rehearsal room years ago and it had no gain whatsoever, no "tube-like response", but at least it had character. Heck, I'd even pick my old Samick 15W over your average Line6 for cleans.

    • @raoulbrandon4150

      Although my nostalgia fave is still a 70ies hifi amp through a homemade 15"+tweeter, all driven by a maxed-out MXR EQ. Now that's a garage sound!

    As a 60year old whose had heaps of amps big and small these little buggers are really great.I have three,diamond,siva and the freeze.Using a 2x12 or quad box with some verb/delay ,people are amazed especially when they see the size of them.But my fave setup is in the lounge room with verb/delay pedals running into a Palmer 1w valve amp (which can be used as a preamp) ,the siva and then into two Vox bc 8 inch speaker cabs which gets me approaching Steve Rothery/David Gilmour territory and doesn’t upset the missus!

    Ignoring the solid state/tube debate, you can't deny the leaps and bounds the solid state amp technology is taking recently, it's really impressive to watch them improve with each year! Loving it.

    • @raoulbrandon4150
      @raoulbrandon4150 6 років тому +18

      Nah. Solid state has got better at mimicking tubes, but I honestly think they're losing a bit of character of their own that way. I love a tube amp but I can appreciate the older solid states precisely for the spikey cleans you can get with them. JC-120 anyone?

    • @JimijaymesProductions
      @JimijaymesProductions 6 років тому +1

      Or Randalls!? I miss the great Fender SS combos and of course the JC series is amazing, but people want a rectifier sound for 200 dollars, a good non tube sounding solid state is still expensive generally!

    • @crabbtrixexp
      @crabbtrixexp 6 років тому +3

      the very early solid states were actually awesome, but over time they got worse, and now, manufacturers have decided to raise their game, they're back to form. So the technology was always there imho. After the initial ss amps, manufacturers then made them worse because they were mainly low budget. I'm no expert but i think you need more power to drive tubes which might make clipping (distortion) better, and maybe that's why a ot of budget ss amps had a tendency to sound better clean than over driven. Sorry if that opens the debate, what really matters is what sounds good to your ears>

    • @mrpositronia
      @mrpositronia 6 років тому +2

      I may be wrong, but they may have already done that... Or was it Glenn Fricker on his Spectre Sound Studios channel? Either way, the more expensive cab option should win as it would theoretically not bottleneck the sound of the cheap head. But good idea, nevertheless. :)

    You know why it totally makes sense to plug one of these heads into a 4x12? Because most studios, venues, and what not, will have a 4x12 laying around, you just take that cute little head in your pocket and you plug it in and you are golden. It bugs me that people still think you need to play either ALL EXPENSIVE stuff or ALL CHEAP stuff. Save here and spend there, mix it up people, stop being boring.

What was once just a promotional avenue for a shop, has now become a vibe-sharing showcase of quite monumental proportions. You’re now a traveling band of cosmic musicians, touring humanity. Every single Anderton’s video jam is an opportunity to send some serious good vibez, so I hope you guys keep letting go, whilst continuing to connect with what matters in life. I wish videos like this, with the sound recorded from cabinets being played in the studio, would have one of those display decibel monitors going so we could get an idea how loud the sounds are. I've seen a couple of channels do this, Thomann Music is one I recall (I believe).

      Florian Ju you may be right, I was using an app on my sons tablet which is the only time I've ever used a db meter. They have an FX Loop in back if you wanna hook up that way. I would recommend at least a 1x12 speaker cab or bigger. Anything smaller will sound boxy.
      They are also good at direct recording. Take the line-out into a direct box and then into a line-in on your audio interface and use some good cabinet IRs in your favorite DAW. You can rock into the late night without bothering anyone.

      Carolina Boost I own the cab to play in my apartment and use it with the purple wind and thunder bass and they do sound OK in person. They are not great, but you can have fun jamming at home with em

    I’d recommend getting at least a 1x12 speaker for these. Really helps clear it up and more bass response. Like an Orange cab or something like that. A 2x12 or 4x12 also works, as you see in the video 😂

    I use my Eagle's Heart through an oversized V30 412 for low volume metal riffing. I set the gain to 1o'clock and nearly mac the lows and then boost it with a Rat clone to tighten it up and focus the mids and it rips and has significant chunk for its size. I'm buying the Freeze next...

    The biggest improvement in any audio signal chain quality wise is the SPEAKER. Second is the room treatment (yes it makes a huge difference), amplifier after and the audio signal source at the end. (considering everything is in good condition of course)
    Speaker is the most effective improvement in signal quality, because it is responsible to convert the electrical signal in to acoustic sound wave. This applies to HI-FI audio, electric instruments etc.
    When you want to improve your tone think about a good cab (IR cab) first flowed by the amp to the source of the signal source.
