Kids nowadays will never know the tonal bliss of only having a Peavey Rage 15 and a metal zone though
Dead Hand Blues But they'll be adamant that the plug in effect is just the same.
I wouldn't put any kids through that kind of cruelty
Oh, I think transistor amps used to be way better when they were too plain to mimic tubes. I used to play an old trannie in a rehearsal room years ago and it had no gain whatsoever, no "tube-like response", but at least it had character. Heck, I'd even pick my old Samick 15W over your average Line6 for cleans.
Although my nostalgia fave is still a 70ies hifi amp through a homemade 15"+tweeter, all driven by a maxed-out MXR EQ. Now that's a garage sound!
Peavey rage 158 is a right of passage for guitar players
As a 60year old whose had heaps of amps big and small these little buggers are really great.I have three, diamond, siva and the freeze.Using a 2x12 or quad box with some verb/delay ,people are amazed especially when they see the size of them. But my fave setup is in the lounge room with verb/delay pedals running into a Palmer 1w valve amp (which can be used as a preamp) ,the siva and then into two Vox bc 8 inch speaker cabs which gets me approaching Steve Rothery/David Gilmour territory and doesn’t upset the missus!
Ignoring the solid state/tube debate, you can't deny the leaps and bounds the solid state amp technology is taking recently, it's really impressive to watch them improve with each year! Loving it.
Nah. Solid state has got better at mimicking tubes, but I honestly think they're losing a bit of character of their own that way. I love a tube amp but I can appreciate the older solid states precisely for the spikey cleans you can get with them. JC-120 anyone?
Or Randalls!? I miss the great Fender SS combos and of course the JC series is amazing, but people want a rectifier sound for 200 dollars, a good non tube sounding solid state is still expensive generally!
Cubes sound great
totally agree
the very early solid states were actually awesome, but over time they got worse, and now, manufacturers have decided to raise their game, they're back to form. So the technology was always there imho. After the initial ss amps, manufacturers then made them worse because they were mainly low budget. I'm no expert but i think you need more power to drive tubes which might make clipping (distortion) better, and maybe that's why a ot of budget ss amps had a tendency to sound better clean than over driven. Sorry if that opens the debate, what really matters is what sounds good to your ears>
Robs whammy bar tricks and the start sounded phenomenal, that Steve Vai jam left its mark?
And Lee picking a Schecter as his guitar for the video? Wut?
I killed your 69 likes..I am truly sorry. Gomenasai!
Jacob Edwards Same. Sweet Jebus.
I'm glad you liked it haha :D
though, not my proudest comment
And that can stay with Steve Vai. """If I could just be inside Steve...oh ohhh"" How about some normal guitar riffs.
Here's a video idea for you: Cheap head and expensive cab vs expensive head and sjaffordable cab
I had the same idea -- maybe find where the tipping point is? Like, expensive head + affordable cab vs affordable head + expensive cab, contrast that against cheap + expensive and vice versa.
I may be wrong, but they may have already done that... Or was it Glenn Fricker on his Spectre Sound Studios channel? Either way, the more expensive cab option should win as it would theoretically not bottleneck the sound of the cheap head. But good idea, nevertheless. :)
I'd watch that video. I'm confident the cab is more important than the amp...except maybe for really high gain stuff.
Alex Hughes that's even better
Best Audio/Music Production Course their job is demoing gear. Not reviewing. Notice how it’s a channel for a store? The reason guys like Glenn Fricker can give unbiased reviews is they aren’t trying to sell a product. Anderton’s goal is to sell a product.
What we need now are Kemper profiles of the Hotone Legacy series.
zoomosis lol very funny . they sound good to me (can't ear ***t anymore) lol
lmao, you could get profiles of the real amps these are based off instead
Knightbrolaire it’s a joke dude
Chapman reminding all of us that HE CAN PLAY!!! That intro jam was incredible!!!!!
We NEVER doubted that!!
I’m 1 minute in and Robs solo has put me on my back. Knocked out.
SOMEbody has jammed with Steve Vai....
I love the idea of the Siva Boogie as a little home amp or coffee shop amp and as a little platform for pedals
that pause when the cap looks at rob 😂😂 and then continues jamming was golden
Whoa! Chappers had some spicy licks in that intro jam. Great job guys.
Been waiting for this review since ages! Thank you lads
You know why it totally makes sense to plug one of these heads into a 4x12? Because most studios, venues, and what not, will have a 4x12 laying around, you just take that cute little head in your pocket and you plug it in and you are golden. It bugs me that people still think you need to play either ALL EXPENSIVE stuff or ALL CHEAP stuff. Save here and spend there, mix it up people, stop being boring.
You are perfectly right. These are good thoughts.
One of the best reply's I've read in some time. I agree. Just play that damn Guitar. Do you think most of the Guitar Gods Started out on optimum top grade gear ? No is the answer. Learn how to play, learn the instrument, learn how to set it up, wire pick ups, solder, how to do a Fret Dress & Set Up, Truss Rod adjustment. Practice, practice, practice. Oh, and get a Metal Zone pedal !
Now that is a fantastic comment. I could not agree more. Mix it up! It's fun!! Spend when and where you can, and mix mash it. Have a blast trying all sorts of different things.
yeah! I'm getting this amp and plugging it to an expensive 1x12 creamback. It kinda feels funny honestly but I'm doing it. not to mention I'm using my ml3 pro traditional, the black one.
@teriakamoto I say do all the things that you mentioned/fret dress, wire, install pickups, adjust truss rod, etcetera.... but no pedals. Maybe a whaand learn how to set your amp at the edge of breakup and learn to use the volume on your guitar.
FINALLY- You guys realized that you could use this platform to literally play concerts in the content of your videos. What was once just a promotional avenue for a shop, has now become a vibe-sharing showcase of quite monumental proportions. You’re now a traveling band of cosmic musicians, touring humanity. Every single Anderton’s video jam is an opportunity to send some serious good vibez, so I hope you guys keep letting go, whilst continuing to connect with what matters in life. Music has connected us all, and it’s quite the privilege to be part of such magic.
Also- Thank you, guys.
I think you may have let it go with a few bags of weed son
I need you to tell me what you were on so I can try it
When the sun goes down Lee Anderton ceases to exist, there is only the Captain.
Excellent playing! Always great videos!
Really enjoyed that jam! Great playing! Love that Charvel Pro Mod!
Woah! That introductory jam was amazing!!!!!!!!! Love the diversity!
This is probably the best playing that I've heard from Rob. I was getting tired of his monotone playing, but this was quite refreshing.
Now, about the amps...I'm EXTREMELY surprised, especially with the Shiva one. Now I don't don't if I should get a micro terror, a hotone legacy or a boss katana.
Juan José Fonseca Godoy have exactly the same issue
From someone who has the Micro Terror, it is purely amazing and one of my favorite amps. You won't be disappointed with it.
Si, ya me estaba aburriendo.
The Micro Terror is pretty awesome! I own a LOT of amps and still plug into that one a lot.
ReggieDunlop I hear the same stuff about the boss katanas
Stellar playing Rob and captain!
These guys always jam the coolest tunes!
I bet Jack White could record a complete album with that little Hotone speaker and it would be amazing. Then everyone would go crazy trying to get one 😂.
Sorry jack ain't that good....he just made it, doesn't mean he has a ton of talent.
@@bkguitarrepairrestoration5509 yeah, but what he's good at is proving you don't need ten grand worth of equipment to make a decent sound. I'll give him that. Tom Morello is the same way, even though he legitimately is pretty awesome.
Jack who!! Lmao....a popular poser. Small niche. Boring guitarist.
@@jimbobmchamish5747 hey, sounds just like you. Didn’t know you two had so much in common!
@@javiermp81 , awe, I so sorry zavi if I offended you! Bad me, shame shame on me, for having the gull to have bias. Maybe I should spend some time trolling you 😂 Dude, grow up, take your soother out of your mouth, thicken up yer skin and just grab a guitar instead of your cellphone and learn some Jack Black, Im mean White! ( even though I think Jack Black is more talented)....lmao...please reply...😚...too easy.
We need a blindfold rating out of 10 challenge mini head shoot out! E.g. micro terror/dark, these, vox nutube etc.. loved the videos as always
I got the Nano Mojo Diamond and I love it! The Cleans are sooooo good and they take pedals VERY well!!! ;)
sweet playing Rob very smooth
That speaker thing is so true, i bought a 1x12 with a V30 and it transformed my amps, and you already get those at like 130 bucks
Damn. Rob was on FIRE this day! Jaw dropped..
Really dig that Vulcan Five-O and Freeze B.
Thats first jame is the best I think Chappers has ever sounded, That rig sounded like his singing voice, Great work!
thank you Chompers an Crapton, good video!
Dude... Chappers was in a total Steve Vai mode in the intro jam with the tremolo! Sounded awesome!
I wish videos like this, with the sound recorded from cabinets being played in the studio, would have one of those display decibel monitors going so we could get an idea how loud the sounds are. I've seen a couple of channels do this, Thomann Music is one I recall (I believe).
I used a Heart attack and Vulcan Five O as a stereo setup in my video. It was 85 decibels running both simultaneously through a Mesa Boogie 412. My drumset reads 60-85 decibels at full blast. Check out my vid
I cant believe your dB readings. Thats way to low. How far away was the messure device from the sound source?
Florian Ju you may be right, I was using an app on my sons tablet which is the only time I've ever used a db meter. Now that I think about it, the tab microphone may have peaked at 85 because that's all it could handle. But, they definitely held up to each other; both full Mapex drumset and Hotone stereo rig.
I jammed with drums and bass with one of these
Anderton's always has a decibel level meter going in The background. Look over the captain's right shoulder
Coming up to 400k subscribers!! Congrats guys! It would be nice for the 400k subscriber video to be every member of the crew doing a challenge that’s not related to music. Like a hot wing challenge. Or if it was to do with Music, maybe every member ges to pick there dream rig and everyone plays over the same 3 minute backing track and we can choose whos rig sounded best? Just ideas....
Chris Lawton or they all try to play drums and see who sounds the best and is able to do the best drum fill.
Thats the best i have ever heard Rob play.
i have been using the Purple Wind for about 3 years!! great tone with a 2 x 12 and 1 x 12!
I am looking at buying one....Have you put an OD in front for high gain tones ?
@@Count_Apollyon5 They take all pedals great. When i use them (i own 5) in my project studio i run my main pedalboard into them with no problems. They have an FX Loop in back if you wanna hook up that way. I would recommend at least a 1x12 speaker cab or bigger. Anything smaller will sound boxy.
They are also good at direct recording. Take the line-out into a direct box and then into a line-in on your audio interface and use some good cabinet IRs in your favorite DAW. You can rock into the late night without bothering anyone.
I bought a British Invasion and put it on my pedal board and use the fx send with no cab to get a Vox sound. I can Ab that so I get Marshall if Vox and Marshall out of 2 amps. I can wet dry with it also. In the event of an amp failure I can even plug the Marshall cab straight to the pedalboard 5w out and mic it to a desk. It’s so good to have 1 of these things in your bag if your gigging
These seem like a cool practice amp especially if you have a higher wattage head ontop of a decent cab but want to play at night or something low volume.
When he was playing each amp individually they sounded pretty good. Everytime both of them were playing together it sounded like solid-state fizz.
I'd throw one of these on top of my big amp/cab for late night jamming or practice.
What a sick intro Chappers! sooo Stevie
these little amps sound amazing.
Thanks for the comparison.
11:13 After playing the Vulcan Rob says the Freeze is his favorite so far. 15:24 After playing all of them Rob says his favorite is the Vulcan.
I'm on to you Rob, haha. I really enjoy the Freeze and of course the playing!
Noticed that as well, put it down to caffeine overload I suppose
I was confused by that, myself.
Great vid guys! Rob you said you liked the Green one the most. Then at the end you plugged in to the blue one saying you liked that one the best. 😂😂. I think you were on point the first time. The green one sounded the best for gain tone.
The gold one is probably what I would buy to have as a living room amp as I could make the best use out of it with my pedals
Pure quality from Chappers
wow i just watched the older vid and saw that this one just came out... im looking at buying one these little dudes
I am so glad I decided to buy one.
The Freeman sounds Great.
Friedman lol, I agree, I'm ordering oneof these the Green one, I have 2 other of these, a british Invasion and a Fender Tweed, love them!
Living in Rural Nebraska and South Dakota, hailing from Detroit I have to say it's nice to see two people playing an instrument let alone playing together. That's not something you see around these parts.
I hope you guys get the floor models when they are released, two channels, line output, fx loop, boost and reverb, up to 75 watts, great addition to pedalboard as a backup theoretically anyway.
JimijaymesGuitarist yup these are going to be a real game changers as a main amp and as a backup.
That’s incredible! They all sound exactly the same.......
sounds pretty sweet !
Love the stuff that chappers was doing in this opening jam with the whammy. Sounded very theremin like
That intro melted my face.
That low gain one is pretty cool
Tim Swarts ...I agree actually I would purchase the low gain and incorporate it into my fly rig..
More versatile!
I think the perfect low budget starter pack would be an epiphone Les Paul SL, one of these heads, and a 1x12 cabinet.
The little speaker doesn’t sound that bad for what it is. It’s perfect for a hotel room before a gig or something like that.
I expected it to sound much worse than it did. Is it great? no; is it the worst I've ever heard? no.
Mic sound vs in person. You make one the battery operated amps from 10+ years ago sound huge mic d up
Carolina Boost I own the cab to play in my apartment and use it with the purple wind and thunder bass and they do sound OK in person. They are not great, but you can have fun jamming at home with em
You Guys Are Rock'n
I’d recommend getting at least a 1x12 speaker for these. Really helps clear it up and more bass response. Like an Orange cab or something like that. A 2x12 or 4x12 also works, as you see in the video 😂
Opening jam was tremendous 🍺
Am a minute in and am now looking at Charvels on Reverb.
I hope that Charvel was 18, like jeezus Rob 🤣
Rob: "Oh, Lee's getting attention for his solo in that last Danelectro video? Heh...time to bring the big guns."
I use my Eagle's Heart through an oversized V30 412 for low volume metal riffing. I set the gain to 1o'clock and nearly mac the lows and then boost it with a Rat clone to tighten it up and focus the mids and it rips and has significant chunk for its size. I'm buying the Freeze next...
How do you think it would take bass? I'm thinking of getting one and running it as a preamp into a power amp and a 2x15.
13:40 😂 "Cappers: They're not massively different sounding..."
Vulcan 9:43
Friedman 10:29
Engl 12:53
Soldano 14:21
The biggest improvement in any audio signal chain quality wise is the SPEAKER. Second is the room treatment (yes it makes a huge difference), amplifier after and the audio signal source at the end. (considering everything is in good condition of course)
Speaker is the most effective improvement in signal quality, because it is responsible to convert the electrical signal in to acoustic sound wave. This applies to HI-FI audio, electric instruments etc.
When you want to improve your tone think about a good cab (IR cab) first flowed by the amp to the source of the signal source.
Should have done a two-amp into the 4x12 running stereo setup. That would have been great to hear.
Rob, You just made me buy the vulcan just now. $50 on ebay. Thank u... Im gonna try this in my VOX Valvetronix Ad100VT-XL And see how it sounds. No brainer for $50
Some of the coolest soloing from Rob in a while. Also Lee playing a Schecter??? What?
Amazing amp
I come back for the opening jam here. Chappers is at his best.
awesome amps !!!!!!
These sound good. Even compared to high end stuff.
I actually thought the little speaker came across quite well in the recording. Obviously in person it would be a whole other story, but small single driver speakers generally seem to record well.
I’m definitely going to get the 5150 clone one an hook it up through my Peavey cab .
A year later.... did you do it? I'm just seeing this vid now, and looking at these little monsters. Did you grab one? If so, how is that set-up?
on hotone website: Freeman B is now called Freeze B (Sound inspired by a famous boutique UK-style high gain amp head )
"I think, therefore I am". Wow, that's deep! Lee should become a philosopher, like Desca... never mind.
Charvel guitars just scream hair-metal, even an Easter egg green one!
and just scream
Absolutely!!! My favorite guitar
The best super strat. Ever.
That whammy stuff is amazing! I'm ditching my Tele for something with a Floyd
Get a charvel san dimas model 2. Looks like a tele and has coil tap and a Floyd rose
Wow Lee using a pointy metal guitar. Miracles do happen.
The siva is f**ng awesome!
The "Freeman" particularly sounded amazing for the money. Very surprised that sounded decent.
Screeching fuzz tone, just what your neighbors love !
Don't be surprised to find all your tires slashed the next day.
The Captain has improved a lot. I'd like to see a video that shows what the Cap focused on...well besides playing a lot! :)
I got 3 of them eagles heart freeze B and my favorite captain sunset I'm getting the loudster soon you should do a video on the hotone loudster 75 watts power amp I hear it rocks im getting it for sure
I would have liked to know what happens when you back down the guitar volume a little
That yellow one is a beaut!
6:08 You can't polish a turd-but you can roll it in glitter!
Sure you can, Half the stuff that comes out is just that and 6 months later it's an obsolete turd.
Do a video on all the different stacks you have
I know Pete had a quick play at NAMM, but I hope you guys take a look at the Hotone Britwind and Mojo Attack soon. 75W, two channels, reverb and boost, all in a pedal. Might make a great piece of gear for the low-level gigging musician.
And the next hot item for just a little more. The Joyo BantAmp series of 20W hybrid 12AX7 Tube/Solid State heads. I was rather amazed the Hotone could drive the 4x12 Marshall Cabinet with 5W of Solid State amp.
The Freeman is now called the Freeze B?? What does that equate to?
What amps are you guys using for power? Marshall, Fender? Wanna go the pedal route awhile but I play LP’s Strats, Tele’s among other oddballs. So I want it to be versatile.
Ran across a drive pedal at music go around. Love it. Want 1 of each of these now!
Rob makes me want to buy a charvel!
Weirdly the Freeman B on the Hotone site is listed as, and says on the front, Freeze B. Also now listed as "UK-style boutique amp" so likely is a Friedman.
Robs melody choice sks bawlzzzzzz!!
Chappers... my face is still melted.. jeeeez your fuckin good!
Chappers! Wow!
Any plans for speaker demos? As Lee mentioned, it's a crucial part of the sound. So why are there so few youtube demos on speaker cabs?????
