Anyone else enjoying watching this in 2024?
Been a while since i've watched Andertons and just stumbled while trying to decide on an Origin, the Captains playing has really improved since I last watched them - wow!
@@fidesetratio77 What are the other contenders for the choice? i am now in the same position haha trying to find something.
@@christophetrudel4621 Orange Rocker 15, Marshall DSL, Ceriatone
@@bradleyjpaoluccifound a decent video comparison somewhere - Origin vs DSL.
@@fidesetratio77I have the DSL20H with the gain low and volume up it sounds “vintagy”. So don’t take everyone’s word when they say if you like vintage go for the origin. Despite that, since the origin is cheap I may actually buy it and have it modded
Finally, Marshall makes the affordable amp everyone has been wanting for years.
Why do people need to complain about people's playing? Anderton's literally has nothing but capable players on their channel. Seems like a huge waste of energy to get mad at someone for using a solo pattern they're comfortable with...
Jesse Kellestine agree.
Jesse Kellestine I agree but it’s refreshing to try something different
at the same time - a similar riff allows us to compare and contrast the sounds
This seems like a passive aggressive way to complain about their playing
The Meme Dream Team eh, not really
Just to be a positive voice, just cause some of the negative ones can be loud and hurtful. THANK YOU for all you guys at Anderton’s do, and thank you Rob and Capt for your time, knowledge, and wonderful playing. I always look forward to your videos. 👍🏼🤘🏼😎
One of the things I like most about this channel is actually the personalities on camera. I really like all the guys at Anderton's. Really good guys, great talent, and very funny and likable personalities. There's a lot of You Tubers that know their stuff and can play well, but are they as much fun as Rob and Lee? Not many are. I also really like that Lee has the industry insider knowledge to share that others don't. Some of the things he has shared about the music gear industry has been really interesting to me. He really knows where the costs are in a product.
Me too, love their videos.
Most exciting Marshall for some time in my opinion.
I agree! I don't usually have the urge to buy new Marshalls but this is very interesting.
Agreed. Sounds so much better than the dsl, which has effectively become the Marshall for bar gigs. No longer.
A Marshall that sounds like a Marshall? What a novel concept! Can't wait to get my hands on one.
Yea, Fender couldn't export enough for Brits, so Marshall stepped in with Fender Clones. Then China stepped in, at 90% discount, just add the $20 logo (100% genuine)...
@@Titus357Great troll but inaccurate I'm afraid. If what you were saying was true, everyone would be buying those Chinese clones 😂
@@stevelife8505I guess he has a Chinese Fender😂
This is all I ever wanted in an amp! Well done, Marshall. And great review!
More of Danish Pete's f**kin tone tips please. Both eloquent and informative.
Funky Monkey1886 Fuck yeah!
YES!
Holy f***** *u*k*** f*** that was awesome as fu***** fucking fuck
Funky Monkey1886 To be fair after Lee took his f***ing advice it f***ing sounded killer as f***ing s**t.
Would those tone tips be for coitus music?
did anyone else get serious guns n roses live vibes from that intro
Yeah as soon as it started I was thinking this is some sweet child kinda stuff
Sweet Child Of Mine, yes.
I wa waiting for it but they were all tease
Slash’s first solo part from SCOM
Also Led Zeppelin Thank you...

and lowest gain setting shall be 3
and the bottom will have a sort of, raffia work base
The gain knob should start at 3 and stop at 13
10" speakers sound the best with guitar
Remember when I went to my local music shop and put a marshall jubilee with a strat on it with a 4x12. The sound I’ve heard that day was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. Especially the E powercord combined with the single coils on neck pickup made me jiggle... but the whole playing was just extraordinary
Thank you SO much for doing a proper demo of these amplifiers! I've been looking at the Origin 20 as my first gigging amplifier and this video is really really helpful. Thanks Chappers and the Captain!
Ted Ayre same thing! I however can’t choose between the 20 watt or 50 watt, or even the 20w DSL head
I played an Origin 50 last week. Fell in love immediately. Most of the music I play is pretty heavy, but the clarity, sustain, and punch is undeniable and I find works pretty well when you play in ultra low tunings, which can get muddy sounding with too much gain. This amp works great when paired with high output pickups and you drive the preamp really hard.
How does this amp handle distortion pedals?
@@Nickraculous very well
Affordable Plexi's!
Considering that english is his second language Danish Pete has really learned how to speak it with such poetry and elegance. That s*** was f***ing regal as f***ing s***. ;-)
Sam Anderson You need to hear someone properly swear in Danish:)
10/10: better than Lars Ul-forehead
Truly enjoyable amp demo video. I enjoyed the jamming, the repartee, and the information. You guys have a nice touch on these things, and this was one of the best.
I'm absolutely in love with my 20W Origin Head, beautiful tones, vintage, crunchy, very round, simple and effective controls, not disappointed.
Way to go Lee! You should be damn proud of that intro jam. Nice to watch your playing progress and expand.
I’m a simple man, I see chappers and lee in a video, I like it.
The honesty makes me want to buy from you guys. Origin excitement! Love the sounds of that 50!
These are great amps that recon back to incredible days of tone.
I stopped playing a good while. Stopped believing in myself but I really got back in the last couple of weeks and practicing scales and stuff, I ve always loved watching Chappers and Lee play. It's how friends would discuss gear. Made me reminiscent of how different things are now yet some bits still remain the same. Thank you :)
Keep jamming my dude
Loved Pete's 'Tone Tip'
The reviews with The Captain and Danish Pete or Chappers are my favorite UA-cam videos! They have tons of personality and knowledge and humor. Hi from Georgia, USA!
I’ve been waiting for this video for ever! Excellent review!
These amps with any sort of half decent tube screamer-esque type pedal is just tone heaven.
8 inch speakers sound awesome when cranked and used in the right context. Fender Champ anyone? You can't expect a 5w 1x8 to sound as full as a 50w through a 4x12!
just quietly, Captain Lee has really lifted his playing from the early days. Well done
Thank you guys for doing what you do. You've helped me with gear choices throughout the years. Cheers.
My dad bought me the 5 origin for christmas (I don't play very often really and i just used it at home)
But I'm happy with it :)
Hook a jackhammer Pedal in Front of it. adds a little bass and versatility. sounds killer!
Hi there. Does it have a silent recording output?
Just got the Origin50 at Guitar Center and I love it! The one watt settings is so useful for just practicing.
Got my 50w combo on preorder with you guys based in this video! I can't wait.
I was waiting for them to review these ever since naam. And they post this on my birthday. Wow amazing.
LOVE the tone of this amp!!!! Using the right pedals, a guitarist should be able to coax a plethora of tones that were popular over the past 50 years!
I like that these have effects loops
I've had this 50 head for months and months and I'm STILL watching videos on it. I love it that much. I mainly got it for an amp that is more of a...pedal amp, like you said, instead of my boogie. That being said though, that thing cranked up with just a strat is THE SOUND. You don't even need anything else unless you want it. And clean in the strats second position? Beautiful.
I watched this several times. Thanks for you observations and insights. I learned a lot.
That Telecaster with the Marshall. !! Wow!
The 50 watt with a boss ds-1 is amazing with clarity & bite. Love mine. Gain to 4 and adust master for volume + boss ds-1 distortion pedal. Great metal tones.
I use the ds-1 with my origin 20c too and it sounds pretty good..it also sounds great with a behringer to800 which is pretty much just a clone of the ts808 from what I’ve researched.
So much emotions with your intro, awesome tones... I like it !
Thx for the demo guys. You are great. I ll buy a 20 head.
been waiting a loong time for this demo.its sounds great!
I haven't wanted to buy any new guitar gear in a long time.... but that 20 watt head is something I might have to go check out. Awesome demo guys, thanks.
I preordered the 50 watt head. I'm so psyched.
Thanks for covering the modern marshall origin amps. This is a great way to keep everyone up to date on todays take on classic tones.
They remind me of the awsome Vintage Modern minus the mid Boost overdrive
Finally! been looking forward to this already pre ordered hopefully this will put me at ease with these amps
Pete, as usual, is the best part of the video. His tone tip was perfect. 🎸😎
Pete could just sit and smile at us and it would be the best part of a video! lol There's a video idea, just Pete staring at the camera! 😮
Brian Ricker I
Just picked up a 20 watt combo - wasn't sure about the 10" speaker but let me tell you...stunning amp and much better sounding than my 20 DSL with a 12" speaker. If it had reverb it would be the perfect amp. 9 out of 10 Marshall!
Just bought the same today...madly in love with this thing!
Waitiing for mine to arrive. Have ordered a tone city reverb to go into the fx ;loop, and already have a tube screamer for the front end. Then it's a simple choice of SG or twin jet! Price is even better in 2022, I paid £360 for the combo, not the £550 they were back then!
I agree, I've been gigging with a 20C for a few weeks, and really love it. I used to play 100w plexis back in the day, and this scratches that itch. To me it sounds like a cross between a Bluesbreaker and a plexi in a more manageable stage volume.
@@steviesteve750 hey if you don't me asking, where did you find one for 360? The cheapest I can find is for 399 from peach. Would really appreciate if you could help me with this thanks!
@@sidk2508 thomann.
Ahh I been waiting for this video now for weeks!! Gonna sit back and enjoy.
Thanks u guys! I was waiting for a good review of the origin series for a few weeks haha
You know ive been chasing my dads tone since he died n im thinking these may do it. He would crank a marshall major (loud) with a ce2
Your Dad would be proud. From one senior citizen who gets it.
"Bravo"
Knew a guy that had a major once. He ended up selling it because KT88 tubes were almost impossible to find locally (pre-internet days) He likens these to a "mini me" of that plexi/major tone. Take that as you will, he hasn't heard the thing in 20 years or so. His had some sort of modification where channel 2 was a pre-amp to channel 1.
14:54 lee sounds like someone gave him the details of a party he wasn’t invited to 😂
This was the review that made me spring for the Origin 20 head.
great show guys, and Rob, totally digging that Tele pro. I just bought the same and can't get over how much I like everything about it.
I love these guys at Andertons. I just bought the Origin 20 combo and watched this after I bought it. I wish I had watched this first, well sorta. They were commenting on the 10" speaker and I agree 12s sound better. Good news! I was able to put a Celestion Vintage 30 12" speaker in there, it fits fine!! The 12" is way better to my ears, thanks to Chappers and the Captain for pointing that out. The warranty is shot but that's okay, it sounds amazing. I like the way it disassembles, very easy. I did find out to my dismay that the cabinet is particle board and some screws were stripped out even before I touched them. If you're handy with a router then go for it. I'm sure there are better tools out there but that's what I had to work with. I was pleased that Marshall gave me a choice of 16 or 8 ohms. I also have a Greenback from the 70's that came out of one of Paul Reed Smith's 4x12 Marshall cabinets way back when. That one is 16 ohms where as the Vintage 30 is 8 ohms. Easy switch now
So the 12 you installed is 8 ohm and that wasn't an issue given the original 10 was 16 ohm?
@@slimturnpike I have the Origin 20 combo there are 3 output jack sockets on the back 4, 8 and 16 ohms so it will take anything. I have a 10 inch Greenback in mine with Harma retro premium tubes and sounds like a Marshall should. The amp style is based on the 60s Marshall Popular combo.
i like how they use the same riff when demoing amps. that way there is a common point that can be used for comparison, and focus is made on the gear itself. Sometimes (but i also like watching them) good playing gets me distracted and my focus is taken away from the gear being demoed. :)
Finally!!! Great job Marshall, Lee, Rob and Pete.
Man, those sound great! Thanks so much for such a great demo.
Love the amps! Big question for me is when if ever will you do any demos with Hiwatt amps as they are amazing with masses of headroom for effects but no-one seems to talk about them any more!!!
Really should have a 1x12” in the 20w combo. 1x10’s are best in pairs or more.
My bedroom amp is a 120w with 8x12 and I think I need more
I like 1x10 for a tweed champ type
12” are nice, but I like 8” and 10” speakers! Pro Junior, Super Champ Xd, Peavey Vintage and my Delta Blues are all 10” loaded! Delta is 2/10 and vintage is 4/10 alnico loaded though.
Another Origin 20C owner here, LOVE this amp. I live in an apartment so a 50W is overkill, hell so is a 20W but it’s such a great price and such a great product. Highly highly highly recommend.
Kudos to captain, loving how your playing has evolved 😁
Finnally the demo we've been praying for.
I'm not Batman seriously though. This was the video I was waiting for.. for like, 3 weeks.
ive been waiting a year since I heard about production
I hope they come out with a matching cab. Would love a vertical 2x12 with a slant top for the 20h
Lee - great playing. I am watching you guys since begining and you improve your skills A LOT! Keep going and practice. Now you are a really good player, but you can become even better!
I have waited so long for this video! Finally!
It would have been cool to hear the 5W routed through a bigger cabinet. Some player might want the 5w for home use, the plug it into a big cabinet for other use.
Finally a good demo. I agree with them on low wattage and speakers, not putting a 12" in the 20 and 5 is a huge mistake. Also, the videos keep getting funnier, the whole disappearing coffee mug thing is hilarious.
I'm super happy with the 10 in the 20C. It helps that the surrounding cab is bigger than that of any other 10" combo I've played. Certainly makes it more portable. I don't wish for a 12 at all
@@slimturnpike Agree I've got a Greenback 10 in mine and a full valve change to Harma Retro Premium sounds great.
I love these amps. Great review as always
Rob and lee you guys rock and i love watching y'alls videos. I got my Hughes and kettner GM 40 because of y'alls video.
So this is supposed to be a low budget plexi-type amp? Maybe a comparison between these and a "real" plexi and the Victory Sheriff would be cool.
Maybe throw in a Fender Bassbreaker too
Just a shout out between classic rock amps
Only the Bassbreaker 45 is even remotely similar to a Plexi.
This is not supposed to be a plexi. Just the 60's marshalls. Plexis were famous in the 80's
'60s Marshalls came in three main flavors: JTM 45, JTM 50, and Plexi. Marshall has stated repeatedly that these amps are not meant as Plexi clones, which implies that they are not JTM 50 clones, and their lack of rectifier tubes indicates that they are not JTM 45 clones.
Plexis were long gone by the '80s, especially by the metal and shred boom of the mid-'80s. Most people today do not know that the 2203 and 2204 (which were not Plexis) started as JMP models, and only sightly more people of aware of the changes made to the JCM 800 amps with each change to their input configurations (hence “vertical inputs or GTFO”). By the time Marshall introduced clipping diodes in the Silver Jubilee, latter JCM 800, and JCM 900 models, Plexis were a distant memory for people buying new Marshalls.
I bought the Origin 20C today! The only feature missing for me is an implemented reverb, everything else is more than any other brand offers at the price and it seems sound is good, too!
i just put my reverb pedal through the FX loop
I did not see the end coming. Danish Pete's tone tips just made my day!!:D
That tele neck pickup sounds incredible through that thing!!
Great stuff as usual gents, any chance of a versus video of the 20w combo up against the Fender 15w Bassbreaker seen as there similarly priced?
So much this!
Bass breaker? That’s a raunchy POS! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
With the amps cranked all the way I bet you the bassbreaker sounds better.
I’d like to hear their opinions on how the two amps compare as well.
I hate commenting on youtube because it’s like wading through a latrine but I’m really pleased to see a “real” video on these. Wanted one since it was announced at Namm.
I own a Class 5 and love it to bits and have been wishing for a new line like this for decades. Well done Marshall! I hope these sell like hotcakes. The 20 watt head is in my future for sure.
I will say, despite Lee and Rob’s criticisms I reckon the 5 and 20 combos will sell the most. Cheap grab and go amps ftw. Interested to hear how they hold up from players/gigging musicians.
Did you end up getting one of these? I just ordered one yesterday, hoping it sounds good in person.
Hey you two, that first jam you guys did was awesome!!!
Been waiting for a video on these!
I gotta say, I think I like Lee's playing better than Rob's now. Seeing how he's improved in the last 6 months is astounding.
Will Anderson rob sux
I love the sound; I'm going to get the 50W head. And I agree with Will - obviously a lot of time has gone into Lee's playing.
Hard to compare in my opinion, such different styles
Is this the new thing to do now? Bash Rob?
You smoked your lunch. : )
When lee said "get 5w for home use" i think is better to get 50w and use low power mod plus you have 12" speaker and also you can use this amp for gig some day... All at all more versatile for sure... Gonna get 50 soon
No believe me....50W for home use is too much even using the low output. Cuz my came today. Origin 50H with Harley Benton G212 Vertical. The neighbors complained when I tried to get the crunch sound but it became really really loud. Low Wattage, Crunch, volume at 1 is already too loud.
Garry Wan Yea the wife don’t like it. Lol. You have to go low and clean even at 5 watt on the 50 watt head.
Garry Wan hey have you ever consider using an attenuator besides the built in power output switch? Wondering because I’m getting one and this is what I plan on doing
@@ivansitogonzalo3341 I'm pretty sure with an attenuator or even a jhs black box you'd be fine
Yes I am using a attenuator, but currently I have upgraded to a Studio Vintage/Mini Plexi instead
Great job, the 4*12 cab sounds fantastic.
The video I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait to get mine.
I Personally have the Origin 20 watt head with a 212 Marshall Vertical Cab. as this video is nearly 4 years old now (wow time flies) they have a good Vertical Cab now I believe they are Celestion 70/80 speakers (Curious if they were Greenbacks) so if you already have a good 412 I would imagine the tone will improve even more. I am not complaining at all. I used to own a 212 JCM 800 and although I miss it. I am very happy with the Origin series! Cheers!
Thanks for coming back and commeting on an older video. I do that too sometimes. Right now I'm considering a used (but practically new!) Origin 50C for just over 400 Euros. I use pedals, so I don't need too much gain in the amp itself, although it would be fun to experiment by driving the amp hard and putting a fuzz before it or even the Boss DS-1 with a low gain setting, which tends to tighten up every amp and every other dirt pedal that I've ever tried stacking the DS-1 into.
Les Paul through a Marshall is the bee's wang
😂
Thanks for showing what this amp does by itself without pedals
In the 70's I owned a 50 watt Plexi head...the Origin 50 has nailed it. I have one on order and am expecting delivery in a few days.
You guys should compare the new version of the DSL vs the Orgin!
Good video guys. An idea for you, take an average guitar and mod it with good pickups better hardware and a good set up , then let the team play it regularly until Christmas then have a competition to win it!
Lee, you nailed that solo 20 mins in!
These guys are great and a big thanks 😊 for what you do
Lee's tone and playing at 19:40 is epic. He's come so far in the last 6 months thanks to pete. Cant wait to see where his playing is at in a years time. The origin sound amazing and pricing is superb.
Looking back at this video, I immediately noticed how Lee's playing has improved 10 fold since this era. Absolutely love listening to his playing nowadays.
Great vid, as always! ;D
You asked for blindfold ideas:
1. One day you promissed us to do a classic rock drive pedal blindfold shootout with humbucker guitar and crunched amp. Maybe it is a good time to do it now? :)
2. Sigle coil vs splitted humbucker blindfold challenge.
You take two guitars from the same lineup and with pickups from one manufacturer. One has single coil, one has splitted humbucker and you both are simply trying to guess which is which. Maybe with some noise gate to make it harder ;)
3. Blindfold restring challenge! :D
4. That Rob's idea with different strings! :O It's always nice to see how Rob is showing off with his knowledge and experience! xD ;D
Isn't a blindfold idea but they need to do another mod challenge
I feel like single coil vs split humbucker would be extremely easy. I've never heard a split humbucker that sounded like a single coil.
xMasterxRazorx So you're saying that it would be embarrasing if Rob and Lee would fail that challenge? ;D
Michał Grabowski
I like the blind restring idea XD
I picked up an Origin 20H with a 2x12 greenback cabinet and am thrilled. Big authentic Marshall sound, great crunch and enough headroom to play gigs if required. Just learn to back off the tilt control for a warmer richer tone and run the master around 2pm-3pm on the dial. Superb amp!!
loud enough with drums?
Loving my 20H.
I think the little 5w Origin (and other) combos make a lot of sense for a home amp still. Plug it into x12 cab in your garage/ rehearsal space when you want volume/pefrect tone and you still can carry the combo around the house for late night practice.
Danish Pete just applied Malcolm Young's approach to getting a good Marshall tone..."turn everything up full and crank the S#!t out of it!!!"
Lord Porcupine - I don’t know where this myth is coming from, but Malcom (and Angus) where (are) never cranking all to 10! Malcom (now Steve) was all about the clean tone with tones of headroom! It’s also not about turning up the mids, as some people say or write. Although it has to be said that acdc sound is all about driving the power section and Malcom even used a boost pedal to get the “ACDC sound” live. Since most people may already lost or don’t believe me anyway, I tell you he used a 45€ Mooer clean boost. The Youngs were/are always extremely sound conscious - that you may believe - and sound changes are highly undesirable for acdc! Please whatch the “Rig Rundown ACDC” on UA-cam - it’s awesome and astonishing :)
Btw who did pull up all to 10 (not for all songs though - at least not in the studio) was Jimi H. And later obviously EVH but he was also starving and therefor melting the EL34s....
Actually M. Y. has his Marshall on 4 straight across the panel and has 4 amps all on at the same time.
Mmm...not sure you're correct people but the only person who knows is no longer with us and we all agree he's legend and we all agree on that, which is the main thing. RIP M Young
More of a Jimi approach
aaaaaaaaand my lunchbreak is over
Vappo Riesat hahahahaha
Oh that LP sound is incredible.
I'm really in love! Going to get one sooner or later!
If you guys ever only ever do two types of videos again, do blindfold challenges and Pete’s tone tips.
