Good Video -- You never see Control Arm Bushings being installed The Pros just install new parts. You got my vote for the correct way of doing it I did the same over 50 years ago & still do
Good job! I've already done the LBJ's with factory ones. I'm redoing my entire suspension, so I'm also doing the LCA's bushings, also went with Whiteline.
Muy cierto. La temperatura de un extremo a otro en tan poco tiempo , es muy dañino. Very true. Sudden temperature extremes are very harmful. Pero, muy buen video. But, a very good video.
I need to replace just the Lower ball joint in my tacoma, would I be able to remove the two lbj bolts, nut, and shock bolt and push it off the spindle just enough to get a ball joint press in there? Without loosening the cam tab bolts.
If you had a strong enough press, I don't see why not. But I'd be worried about it not fitting or being strong enough. Hydraulic press is what I used, so I wasn't able to really gauge how much juice it took.
Great video, man. Was the 20-ton press used on your LBJs not beefy enough to fit the Whiteline bushings? I'm about to take on this LCA rebuild myself and trying to justify buying a press...
It was plenty strong enough, there just wasn't enough room for me to maneuver the control arm to the position I needed it to be in, in order to press the new bushings in. The big arbor press had enough room.
now this is the reason why when I wanted to change my wore out bushing.. i just said FUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND BOUGHT A WHOLE BRAND NEW LOWER CONTROL ARM
buenas tardes, un genio el flaco , ahora 0 seguridad , en ojotas en short , en cuero , sin antiparras para usar el oxicorte, ni guantes , haci es como pasan los acciodentes
I did grease them a little bit just so they slide in easily. If I remember correctly, the back ones were smaller than the front. You can't mix them up though.
Im a little confused about the exact bushings you used. The whitline bushing kit already comes with poly bushings installed in the sleeves right? Did you use the moog bushings or?
Whiteline kit has the bushings and sleeves already installed. They are a plug and play thing. The moog part I used is just the lower ball joint. I mis-spoke that it was the bushing. My bad.
Also, more heat was applied than needed. Soften the rubber, no needed to set it on fire and have us all breathing that across the planet! Thank you :) :) :)
Had to add that much heat on that particular arm. The other side wasn't so bad, but didn't want to bend the control arm. Beer and fire always makes a good time anyways!
It can do depending on control arm strengtn and how stuck bushes are. Clamping other end in a vice level with top of jaws may spread the load. However I would personally avoid this method if possible.
If you're referring to the pickle fork set, It's a set from Autozone. Has like 6 of them and the whole thing with hard case is like $50. Not a bad deal.
Possibly, but with a lift, the stock bushings will continually go bad due to the bad angles and rubber bushings, and most aftermarket lowers that have Poly bushings are upwards of $1k. It's just a cheaper alternative if you don't want to go aftermarket.
I’m going to be doing this soon - Tacoma’s only really have Total Chaos LCA as an aftermarket option at about $2000 for a pair. OEM LCAs with rubber bushings are $600 to $700 for a pair. Moog and Menvotech LCAs are kinda garbage if you are actually wanting to upgrade, so Whiteline and Energy Bushing upgrades to the OEM LCAs we already own is the best and cheapest alternative.
Great so far! It's my weekend toy, so I don't have a ton of miles on the new setup, but its done a couple off road trips and probably 2-3k miles and held up perfectly.
Not if you have aftermarket suspension. Angles will constantly trash stock rubber bushings. Aftermarket control arms with poly bushings are upwards of $1k. Or just do what I did here and rebuild with poly bushings.
awesome video, thank you. please wear safety glasses with doing this work though, i know it seems silly, but just takes one time to regret it for the rest of your life.
Dude watched a million vids on bushing and you guys are geniuses for doing it with a bottle jack. Hell's yeah!
You guys have more common sense than a lot of mechanics I known
what do you mean by YOU guys???
Good Video -- You never see Control Arm Bushings being installed

Like it, very clear teaching.
At least you put on some flip slops when the torch came out!
I gave you a thumbs up because your wife was really cool about when you told her you were recording it. She's a sweetheart, you can tell.
Salute sir.. So brilliant idea. From sarawak malaysia👍👍👍
Shirtless & flip-flops. You country boys are all heroes in my book. This is tough work.
Thats a sweet old school press
Great video! And very cool press.
Thanks for sharing this process fellas!
Great educational video. A+
Awesome video bro.. I’m about to do mine in the next few weeks when all my parts arrive. Bottle jack was a very good idea 👍👍
Thanks for sharing, I learnt a lot.
Buenos videos pero el lugar de fuego se le hecha agua o w40 sin calentar el metal ya que con esa temperatura se destempla gracias y saludos
Muy cierto. La temperatura de un extremo a otro en tan poco tiempo , es muy dañino. Very true. Sudden temperature extremes are very harmful. Pero, muy buen video. But, a very good video.
Nice job. I heat it gently and use WD-40.
"Make sure you're always wearing your correct PPE on this..." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i like the safety shoes
I about to start the same thing on the 2015 Tacoma which seems to have the same alignment issue…
Unos genios ,se tragan humo descuadran la tijera ,unos cavernícolas
Thanks for the helpful videos! Definitely subscribing because i need to do a bunch of this stuff
Great, thank you
Every time I’m recording my wife comes in to unknowingly add commentary as well LOL
Yes, all of us have an industrial press like that at home....
HAVE YOU EVER HAD THE TUBING YOU USED EXPLODE BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE?
Nice. Very Nice.
7:12 "Hello from UA-cam!"

You can rent a ball joint press from most auto part stores. It fits on the control and with it installed on the truck.
Great video, man. Was the 20-ton press used on your LBJs not beefy enough to fit the Whiteline bushings? I'm about to take on this LCA rebuild myself and trying to justify buying a press...

How have your bushings held up over the last 4 years? About to rebuild my front end on my 07
Still going strong! I off road quite a bit on them too. No issues at all
How bout an update on them bushings doing mine this weekend, good job thanks
Still working like a charm!
Can you post the link on where you bought that badass arbor press? I wish they have free delivery! 😂
Radius I wish it was mine! Belongs to the school district my dad works at, and is probably 60 years old at least.
now this is the reason why when I wanted to change my wore out bushing.. i just said FUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND BOUGHT A WHOLE BRAND NEW LOWER CONTROL ARM
I might just take the control arms out and have the bushings pressed at a mechanic w a press. I did the same to change struts.
buenas tardes, un genio el flaco , ahora 0 seguridad , en ojotas en short , en cuero , sin antiparras para usar el oxicorte, ni guantes , haci es como pasan los acciodentes
Did you grease the bushing before you pressed them in? Are all 4 bushings the same? Thanks for posting an informative video.
I did grease them a little bit just so they slide in easily. If I remember correctly, the back ones were smaller than the front. You can't mix them up though.
Great video!
BEAUTIFUL...
Mucha inseguridad, no se puede trabajar debajo de un vehículo sin que éste bien calsado
I was gonna do this to my 4th gen 4runner but after the OEM bushings, OEM ball joints it’s better to just buy the complete arm. Sadly lol
My bad.
So if I buy new Lcas do they come with new ball joints?
I would assume so, though I've never bought new ones since I rebuilt mine.
I have a factory LCA on my Tacoma. Is it possible to replace the factory LCA ball joint with an aftermarket one such as a Total Chaos ball joint?
I'm not sure about the Total Chaos one, but I doubt it would fit. I used the MOOG one which is technically aftermarket.
Great video, very helpful. Can you tell me if you found a good place to purchase the Whiteline bushings from?
Amazon!
SprocketHead Thank you!
Are the lower control arm bushings different size?
Yes, the front 'arm' and the back one are different sizes. Both should come in just about every kit you buy and can't be mixed up.
SprocketHead Been there!! :)
Funcional bien calentado sale me sacó de un problema
Awesome video! Is the ball joint an OEM part or MOOG?
Moog K80827
10:40, wouldn't that bend the control arm outward?
I guess if it did, they wouldn't have gotten it to fit back in place.
It can do depending on control arm strengtn and how stuck bushes are. Clamping other end in a vice level with top of jaws may spread the load. However I would personally avoid this method if possible.
Which breaker bar set is that? I like the larger handles?
If you're referring to the pickle fork set, It's a set from Autozone. Has like 6 of them and the whole thing with hard case is like $50. Not a bad deal.
its the breaker bar at 5:30 ? is that part of the pickle fork set? I dont need a ball joint separator just a good size breaker bar.
Ahh that one. Its a 3/4: drive socket wrench. It's only maybe 2' long by itself. I yanked the handle off of my floor jack and used it as a cheater.
Does the whiteline kit (W53312) have all of the bushings required for both sides? Or do you need to buy a kit per side?
Had everything I needed for both sides. Also had some other spacers that I'm assuming are needed for the Hilux, but didn't need for the Tacoma.
SprocketHead thanks for this awesome video!!!
@6:30 go for metal punch
Nice work!! About to do LBJs on mine 🍻
Cood
I have a Toyota Tacoma 2016 I want to fix it, it have the arms bent can someone help me please ?
If you don't have the press i think is cheaper to buy the whole lower control arm both

you lucky that you have that press
👍
How are the bushings holding up?
Great so far! It's my weekend toy, so I don't have a ton of miles on the new setup, but its done a couple off road trips and probably 2-3k miles and held up perfectly.
Why not make it easy by replacing the entire lower control arm with the bushing built in?
made me literally laugh out loud because im here wrenching on mine barefoot too hahaha
I bet mine are stuck, it had 374,000 miles and has never been aligned.
HAHA, I get my bare hands greasy enough working on my truck... I'd hate to be using my bare feet too!

😱😱😱😱😱
you are trying to unbolt a camber bolt? camber bolt is used for adjusting well...... the camber. you hold it firm and remove the nut never the bolt.
Papa, with that kind of equipment, even i can do it. We are street mechanic. Good video, but not for me.
Hello youtube
No shoes no shirt no service

You know it’s cheaper and faster to just buy a new lca
Not if you have aftermarket suspension. Angles will constantly trash stock rubber bushings. Aftermarket control arms with poly bushings are upwards of $1k. Or just do what I did here and rebuild with poly bushings.
