Well, I'm 63 and bought mine last year at the age of 62. So don't worry. I want one of those new style Infotainment systems, with push buttons and a rotary volume knob.
I hear you on that one. I got lucky to get a 2019 at a good price. It was over MSRP but what they sell the 17/18's here in socal used was not much less than me getting a 2019. It's nice to have that extra knob. But I guess all in all it's just nice to have apple carplay and Android auto right. This car is a blast to drive.
Food for thought: My 2019 Continentals were already showing chord on the front driver side after only 6300 miles terrible. I’ve never track my CTR, or roasted the front tires, I guess it doesn’t help that these are rated to 10k. I just put new tires on it and it makes the car look lowered and they are rated to 45k miles. So much better over stock. I went with Bf goodrich GeForce comp 2 all season 255/35/20. They have been amazing so far and definitely much more sticky in the colder weather here in Phoenix over the stock Continentals. Long story short get ready for some new rubber pretty quickly regardless of weather you baby your CTR or not. Lol. I was gonna go with Michelin Pilot 4’s, but I just can’t hack spending 1500 dollars on tires no thanks! I spend 750 for all four with the AS BF Goodriches and am super happy with them! The car stance looks way more aggressive too and lowered as I said.

New 2019 Sonic Gray here, a few days ago. Actually got $2,600 discount. They had a 2020, but sold it the day I came to look at both. Honda Sensing still doesn't have blind spot, or rear cross traffic on Civics, so no loss for me. Didn't care for Alcantara steering wheel either. Under my radar, until I test drove a local used '18. Fell in love.
Good luck with your Type R! I used mine as a daily driver, and the maintenance was just getting outrageous. I actually traded mine in for a 2019 2.0 Touring. It's no type R on the highways, but for a daily driver it's much more practical for myself. Enjoy the new ride!

My 2016 Honda Civic EX deathtrap. If your Honda has an electronic/electric parking brake it might cause you to crash. While driving my 2016 Honda Civic EX around 20 mph the electric parking brake engaged locking up and sliding the rear tires. The car was jerking. A light came on the dash saying 'computer error, have the parking brake serviced'. If I was traveling at a high speed and the electric parking brake locked the rear tires the car would go out of control and crash. The car is unsafe to drive so I had it hauled to the Honda of Cleveland Tenn service department. They worked on the car and the service department manager said nothing they did addressed or corrected the electronic/electric parking brake malfunction. The car was returned to me on 7/23/2019 . I ask the American Honda Motor Co., Inc for compensation,on 8/4/19 and on "08/09/19 they refused, saying the problem with the electric parking brake had been "repaired". Obviously not true. The brake problem has not been repaired and all these cars should be recalled. I'm sure they did not bother to look into the problem at all. The following is their reply: "08/09/2019" "Dear John Thank you for the reply. We have received the requested information and after further review of the diagnosis from Honda Cleveland the vehicle was repaired. We have looked into your request for compensation and we regret to inform you that American Honda Motor Co., Inc will not be in the position to provide the compensation requested. Either or it’s not going over $500 max for them the shift knob $80 and trunk I don’t know what could that be $200? So what’s that? $1k-1.2k maybe in parts. How much labor we taking about to screw a knob on and put a trunk mat down? Lol.

Ford prices the carbon fiber dash they make if you don’t get the carbon fiber package for $1,200 as a separate for $4k . What’s that mean? That means I buy a trufiber Carbon fiber dash for $950. That was my point. But honestly as long as your happy. I know there’s usually an ADM on this car my brother has one. So enjoy.
I’m 50 and just got mine last month. I also got the Championship White. My wife tells me I am too old for this car, but I ignored her comment and still got it!! It beats driving a van!! I haven’t driven it yet because I and planning on getting a wrap for it. I sure don’t want to get any rock chips on the paint.

To be honest I did not even know the mirrors were an actual accessory haha. Only 21 so changes will come slow for this thing. Picked it up back in February for 2k markup when in the Orlando area they were going for 10k above. Got it out of the dealership without any techs putting a finger on it ;)
Congrats on a great deal. It's rare to see a dealer that's sells these things for sticker specially here in CA. I'll gladly pay for any additional accessories that come with the car instead of any markup amount.
In my recommendation list, applications from the dealerships on the Type-R is just extra money on their end made, no cost to them to install them, they normally have a tech install them, however is nice having them already instead of buying them aftermarket, and have issues with perfect fitment, also installing them, could be a pain in the rear end. Would love to get a Type-R but had two 8th gens, one EX, One Si, then currently have a 9th gen Si, I need to change it up, but I’m in my mid to late 20’s I think right now would be my best time in age to own one. Might get one for the right price, quiet wouldn’t want to spend no more then $34k OTD, just not worth it for me.

Nice collecticon Since you have the plain Golf R and the crazy Type R......what's your perspective on these cars? ( best daily, best sounding exhaust, best sounding system, best engine,best for the track, best for backroads, best for the highway, the best at saving gas etc).
I don't daily or track my cars. The Golf R is a bit subdued in the driving dynamics and looks, but feels premium over the Civic Type R. The Civic Type R is a much more engaging car to drive not to mention how people react to it. Both exhausts are quiet, The Fender audio in the Golf sounds amazing, haven't tested fuel economy. Love the DSG transmission in the Golf. I prefer it over the manual transmission. Hope that answered some of your questions.
I do as well. I'm just going to forego those accessories since I don't feel like taking apart the interior panels. I do like the carbon fiber interior kit from Honda.

Just bought a 2019 a few months ago. My badges and tail lights have already started cracking as if they are sun damaged with only 2200 miles. It stored under cover most the time. Little frustrated.

Congrats on the purchase. I see they are still pushing them out with some minor imperfections. I also chose to replace some panels and parts myself rather than waste time at a dealer. I stopped by once to ask the dealer if they could an issue with weather stripping, they told me they would super glue it... I've had many Hondas. Owning an R, this is the first I've had to replace parts for poor assembly or attention to detail. Maybe its the quality of the UK plant production lines.

I test drove an Si on a hot day and the shift knob was hot and very annoying to touch. Type R looks great except for the spoiler IMO.

The Car Crazy Guy I’m sure Honda prices it that way. That doesn’t mean it’s true value from quality after market brands is that. Ford prices the carbon fiber dash they make if you don’t get the carbon fiber package for $1,200 as a separate for $4k . What’s that mean? That means I buy a trufiber Carbon fiber dash for $950. That was my point. But honestly as long as your happy. I know there’s usually an ADM on this car my brother has one. So enjoy.
I’m 50 and just got mine last month. I also got the Championship White. My wife tells me I am too old for this car, but I ignored her comment and still got it!! It beats driving a van!! I haven’t driven it yet because I and planning on getting a wrap for it. I sure don’t want to get any rock chips on the paint.
I only have 50 miles on mine. I can't do a wrap yet. Maybe next year, just a frontal wrap and key areas on the side.

I own a 2018 CTR and a 2007 s2000 and they complement each other very well! Go for it.

To be honest I did not even know the mirrors were an actual accessory haha. Only 21 so changes will come slow for this thing. Picked it up back in February for 2k markup when in the Orlando area they were going for 10k above. Got it out of the dealership without any techs putting a finger on it ;)

You can make it 4 wheel drive very easily by bolting in electric rear hands a company makes a kit that will give you an extra 50bhp per hub

In my recommendation list, applications from the dealerships on the Type-R is just extra money on their end made, no cost to them to install them, they normally have a tech install them, however is nice having them already instead of buying them aftermarket, and have issues with perfect fitment, also installing them, could be a pain in the rear end. Would love to get a Type-R but had two 8th gens, one EX, One Si, then currently have a 9th gen Si, I need to change it up, but I’m in my mid to late 20’s I think right now would be my best time in age to own one. Might get one for the right price, quiet wouldn’t want to spend no more then $34k OTD, just not worth it for me.

Between the Golf and Civic, which is your favorite?
The Golf is super refined and luxurious, the Civic is raw. It’s hard to say. The Civic certainly has the cool factor and way better resale value.

I picked one up for 37 and got the wheel protection just because the rubber band tires Geash.
I work at a Honda dealer, they do this all the time with accessories to "fluff" the price. The only thing you'll do dailying this car is eating tires.

My 2019 Continentals were already showing chord on the front driver side after only 6300 miles terrible. I’ve never track my CTR, or roasted the front tires, I guess it doesn’t help that these are rated to 10k. I just put new tires on it and it makes the car look lowered and they are rated to 45k miles. So much better over stock. I went with Bf goodrich GeForce comp 2 all season 255/35/20. They have been amazing so far and definitely much more sticky in the colder weather here in Phoenix over the stock Continentals.
Long story short get ready for some new rubber pretty quickly regardless of weather you baby your CTR or not. Lol. I was gonna go with Michelin Pilot 4’s, but I just can’t hack spending 1500 dollars on tires no thanks! I spend 750 for all four with the AS BF Goodriches and am super happy with them! The car stance looks way more aggressive too and lowered as I said.

Since you have the plain Golf R and the crazy Type R......what's your perspective on these cars? ( best daily, best sounding exhaust, best sounding system, best engine,best for the track, best for backroads, best for the highway, the best at saving gas etc).
I don't daily or track my cars. The Golf R is a bit subdued in the driving dynamics and looks, but feels premium over the Civic Type R. The Civic Type R is a much more engaging car to drive not to mention how people react to it. Both exhausts are quiet, The Fender audio in the Golf sounds amazing, haven't tested fuel economy. Love the DSG transmission in the Golf. I prefer it over the manual transmission. Hope that answered some of your questions.

I do like the light door sill and the red light interior accessories.
I do as well. I'm just going to forego those accessories since I don't feel like taking apart the interior panels. I do like the carbon fiber interior kit from Honda.

Welp, I sold the Golf R and bought a new vehicle to replace it. Video coming soon. It's been raining a bunch here in SoCal. I didn't put a ton of miles on it. It was ok.
Just bought a 2019 a few months ago. My badges and tail lights have already started cracking as if they are sun damaged with only 2200 miles. It stored under cover most the time. Little frustrated.

That's so tough to answer. Each has their strong points. If I had to pick just one probably the CTR due to it's superior resale value.

Congrats on the purchase. I see they are still pushing them out with some minor imperfections. I also chose to replace some panels and parts myself rather than waste time at a dealer. I stopped by once to ask the dealer if they could an issue with weather stripping, they told me they would super glue it... I've had many Hondas. Owning an R, this is the first I've had to replace parts for poor assembly or attention to detail. Maybe its the quality of the UK plant production lines.

Did they give you back the original shift knob, original mirror caps etc?
I got the original rear wing but it was messed up. Tossed it. They said the original mirror caps are underneath. I did get the shift knob.
Nice addition, nothing like some low-level dealer service techs shmucking up a prep for a customer. I look forward to an overview of the comparison of the Type R and Golf R.
