The Honda Civic Type R is an incredibly exciting hot hatchback known for its powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, excellent 6-speed manual transmission, and limited-slip differential that makes it a blast to drive. This particular Civic is a one-owner car that boasts exclusive Texas ownership history, and it comes equipped with 20-inch wheels, a 3-mode drive system, the Type R aero kit, and a 12-speaker premium audio system. It also touts a few upgrades like front brake rotors and a Type R Adaptive Damping System (ADS) module from a later model - plus paint protection film and window tint. A clean, accident-free Carfax report should also give some peace of mind for the next owner.

- This Type R is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

- The FK8 Honda Civic Type R is the fifth generation of the Type R, though it's the very first generation ever sold in America. Offered only as a hatchback and only with a 6-speed manual transmission, the FK8 Type R garnered praise for offering dramatic performance with a surprising amount of daily livability. In 2017, the Civic Type R set a new record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife for a front-wheel drive production car, lapping the 'ring in 7 minutes and 44.8 seconds.
- Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4, rated at 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.

From its aggressive style to its "punching above its weight" performance the FK8 Honda Civic Type R definitely was one of those moment in time cars that I doubt would ever be made again. It is already a legend and will be a future collectable. I know because I own one. It is not only one of the best cars I have ever owned it is also one of the best cars I have ever driven.

I think the 2024 civics look is incredibly reminiscent to the fifth Gen line up. 92-95. Which everyone knows was the most popular & game changing model.
I think there's a real argument to be made for the EK instead of the EG, especially outside of the states with it being the first Civic type R

My question on cars and bids can you make multiple bids and if so, are you only charged once for the hold on your first bit or is it continue to charge you after you bid every time?
I really like this Type R as well as the current Type R. Ideally, both Type R's would be a part of my garage and depending on my mood or the day of the week i would switch between them. Sad to hear that you're moving on from Cars & Bids but i'm also looking forward to the reviews on your channel.

You guys also got the Integra Type R in limited numbers. The black rear seats are a Type R thing. Highlights the driver focused front. Though for some odd reason way back in the day the Integra R for the Canadian market had the option of rear seats in red.
Livability is good in these alright and has been in Type R's since the early 00's. The first of the R breed from the 90's were far more "race cars for the road" in that regard. Loss leaders stripped of weight, near zero soundproofing, thinner glass, reinforced body panels, extensive engine mods etc. The NSX-R had no radio, central locking, aircon, engine cover and a few other things like kevlar Recaros, all in the pursuit of dropping the weight. Today the Civic Type R's are heavier than the base models.
But this livability also means they are bigger sellers with much wider appeal. Those 90's Type R's were actually pretty slow sellers. That's one reason why Honda didn't produce that many Integra R's for the US and likely why they left such a big gap between Type R's in that market; they weren't sure they'd be able to sell them in enough numbers to justify it.

Usa did get an integra type R from 97 until 2001 with a slightly detuned version of the b18c, interesting you didn’t mention it

The fake vents just aren’t it for me, I prefer every other generation. But that’s just my preference
When I got my previous ‘17 Si, the CTR just released here and they only had one or two models at local dealers. MSRP was $46k but they all wanted over $60k - I don’t think that’s changed and I know every year since Honda has raised the MSRP as well….

Hi Alanis!! The Civic Type R is and always have been really cool and a fun car to drive. You are right, if you want to have fun with your hatch, there is nothing wrong if it look like a toy. I love the GT3 Touring but I think the RS looks like designed by a lunatic, however, if you wanna have fun at the track, you don't care about the RS's looks. So yes, today's toy suits you just like a glove, particularly with your Catwoman like outfit. Thanks for the fun and much love as always from your buddy in West Spain ❤

I agree about the steering wheel - leather is better than suede, which is just going to wear down from constant use. Suede just doesn’t make sense on a constant touch-point.
What does concern me on this car (and all Hondas) is the long term wear of the paint. I’ve seen so many Hondas with peeling/fading/oxidizing paint that aren’t that old. I wonder how the paint on this car will hold up over time.
Almost 7 years in with our Type R and a bunch of track days. PPF, an initial paint correction and a good sealant/coating, regular maintenance washes, plus a spot in the garage goes a long way. Definitely get what you mean though my in laws had a previous Civic gen (9th vs 10th gen) to this one and the clear coat was gone on parts of the roof by the time they traded up to a 10th gen. They’re famously bad at taking care of their cars but I have a Tundra about that old now and the paint is still in much better shape.
LOL Doug hated this car when he reviewed it. I bought one anyway and love it.

@@AlanisKing you should get a chance to drive one that has been modified, as they reliably take very well to tuning. I have almost 100k miles on mine and it makes 415hp and 427tq to the wheels, stock turbo, full bolt on with water methanol injection.
When this generation came out I found it hideous but now to me it looks like a modern stealthy edgy NFS Underground car, in all black like this it’s kinda sick actually

I'm not a Honda fan but I enjoy how Alanis reviews cars. Honda's stylists must have watched the first Fast & Furious to see what the kids were into. Being the fastest front-wheel-drive car is like being the tallest midget. Then there's the issue that as Hondas age, the exhausts rust out and they sound like a can of bees going down the road as well as the suspension collapsing so the car can't clear a speed bump. Honda still uses cheap steel in the suspension and exhaust. The engines last forever and the body rustproofing is strong, I'll give them that.

I agree with others about the fake vents. Front wheel drive is lame. Other than those 2 things, I do like it. I'll stick with my Ford Focus hatchback and hope I come across one of these when I am in it. 😂
