Excellent breakdown, Max! Definitely excited for this new direction for the mac. Had me wondering if I should consider selling my specced out 2017 iMac Pro when they announce the 16 inch m1 MacBooks.
So I’m looking to get a new MacBook Pro that has no problem editing in final cut, my early 2015 is too slow now so my question is.... would the 13” be sufficient for me rather than me buying the 16”?
the following specs after 8:00 are not compared to the New AIR, they are compared to the old version of Pro... Here is an example: i.imgur.com/kRkqTvL.jpg in my opinion, this is how this info should be displayed as a direct comparison. as the previous air was a weaker machine than the previous pro, the M1 MBP should recive less of an upgrade... as this graph proves.
Thank you Max. I've got one for you for the big review coming soon. I'm a graphic designer and an amateur photographer, and I was going to buy a MacBook Pro with 32GB of RAM (probably de 16''), thanks to your advice in previous videos that it seemed the sweet spot. The big question now is: can I live with 16GB of "Unified Memory" without Swap memory kicking in, or should I wait for the next round of Apple M1"X" Macs? I now work on a MacBook Pro 15'' mid 2015 and Swap Memory kicks in constantly, slowing down the performance significantly, so I know that I need 32GB on an Intel Mac. Thank you. Cheers from Portugal. (sorry if you've read this before, I'm excited)
Definitely test Resovle against a custom Threadripper PC editing R5 footage. Also, isn't the RAM shared with the GPU? That could be an issue for video editing that could use a lot of VRAM for high res RAW video footage.
What I wanna find out is if all the old Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port expanders will work with the M1 Macs. That's probably gonna be one of my purchases alongside one of them. The Dell G5 I'm using right now has four USB ports, one of them a Thunderbolt 3 port, and I still have managed to find a use for every one of them. I can only imagine it'll be worse for an MBP with only two ports of any kind.
Hey Max. When you get the first M1 Mac, please test an external GPU, compare with internal GPU Metal scores if it works, then test out Parallels Virtual Machines with Windows 10. Please ???
Depends on what do you want to edit. If you want to edit 10 bit 4 2 2 videos from new cameras like sony A7siii or canon R5 then go for new macs with M1 chip but if you want to edit h264 codec or 8 bit videos then MacBook Pro 16 is a better choice.
4:2:2 is not more compressed per se... it is spatially subsampled, so less chroma samples, and lower bit rate because of that. You can have uncompressed YUV 4:2:2@10bit. So 4:4:4 YUV is actually more demanding.
Max, have you been able to connect you QNAP with your M1 mac? Mine connects in Qfinder, but I can't actually browse my files. Curious if you or others have been able to.
@@MalcolmREBORN These las iMacs and the 5600GPU 16" have great performance. It seems that these are the computers Apple silicon performance is targeted to beat (eventually) . So I’m looking to get a new MacBook Pro that has no problem editing in final cut, my early 2015 is too slow now so my question is.... would the 13” be sufficient for me rather than me buying the 16”?
Man I am so sad because my 2019 13 inch mbpro is worth 830 bucks with trade in which I paid over 2k in $ :((
My 2018 4000$ 15 MacBook Pro with 1tb ssd 32ram Vega 20 is 1200$ with trade in
I feel your pain lol
8:00 what do you mean it has better performance because of more wattage?
the following specs after 8:00 are not compared to the New AIR, they are compared to the old version of Pro...
Does LumaFusion run on this platform?
They should work. The M1 Macs have USB4 which works with TB3.
Always my go to guy. Thanks 🙏🏿
Looking into getting the mac mini with the M1 in it for editing videos
10:50 YES SIR!🔥😍
Hey Max. When you get the first M1 Mac, please test an external GPU, compare with internal GPU Metal scores if it works, then test out Parallels Virtual Machines with Windows 10. Please ???
Showdown between the mac mini and custom PC!!
4444 is higher specification .. 422 is 30% smaller file size and half the colour renditions of 4444
Will M1 have issue or even not supporting bootcamp all together?
How would it support Bootcamp? LMAO
Even if it does, what do you even do on ARM Windows you cannot do on macOS?
@@cunnyman i dont know.. play games maybe
@@TheOrisya
Again, what do you play? It's ARM Windows? It can't even run Photoshop.
@@cunnyman i dont know... Warzone maybe
@@TheOrisya you have no idea what ARM or x86 are, huh
A showdown between the Mac mini and a custom of build would be great!
For someone that cannot wait - would you recommend the 13" M1 over the 2020 MBP16? [Video editing]
Yes
No
Yes. Because you can put in less money, and loss less money when reselling in the future.
editing on FCPX? yes.
Depends on what do you want to edit. If you want to edit 10 bit 4 2 2 videos from new cameras like sony A7siii or canon R5 then go for new macs with M1 chip but if you want to edit h264 codec or 8 bit videos then MacBook Pro 16 is a better choice.
My wish list for your next video is editing 6K RAW on 13 inch MBP. Even Blackmagic / DaVinci Resolve performance.
Def wanna see the $700 Mac mini vs $700 custom pc!!!
Should i buy macbook air base variant for 4k Editing in premiere and davinci
If I use the Mac for mainly MainStage 3 do I need 8GB or 16GB of Ram?
4:2:2 is not more compressed per se... it is spatially subsampled, so less chroma samples, and lower bit rate because of that. You can have uncompressed YUV 4:2:2@10bit. So 4:4:4 YUV is actually more demanding.
Please also do the logic pro benchmark test, will be really helpful for us sound guys, many thanks🙏🏻
Is there a link to his Mac Pro config somewhere?
AWESOME! DAVINCI & FINAL CUT ALL THE WAY!
Next video idea. Do your new m1 MacBook vs an AMD desktop of similar price!
when do you think they'll be announcing the 16" and 13 w/ 4 ports? haha. I think that's when I'm gonna buy one...
14”
Yes. It’s going to happen in summer 2021 for two sizes 14-inch & 16-inch. It will also mark one year since both were last updated.
@@MalcolmREBORN 7 month wait for the 16” doesn’t sound bad at all! Is this confirmed or just a potential leak?
@@DeoneSoBord Yes. It’s confirmed. Lookout for May, June, or July 2021.
@@MalcolmREBORN dude, you’re the best, thank you 🙏🏻
Hey Max, Photo editing wise with the M1, suggestions or video coming?
Will these transcode the Canon R5 and R6 h265 videos faster?!?!?!?
Max, have you been able to connect you QNAP with your M1 mac? Mine connects in Qfinder, but I can't actually browse my files. Curious if you or others have been able to.
I am starting to think that the latest 5600 MBP and iMacs were so good to have some benchmark reference for the M1s
What do you mean?
@@MalcolmREBORN These las iMacs and the 5600GPU 16" have great performance. It seems that these are the computers Apple silicon performance is targeted to beat (eventually) . Someday there will be a presentation with a slide that reads 3x faster than our best Intel macs. You can bet on that. Apple is on a mission!
@@nyambe Yes, I agree with you. To think that this is just the baseline Mac chip is absurd! Next year will be unheard of. And the year after too.
What’s up Bro, I just purchased a MacBook Pro 16 should I trade it in For the New M1 MacBook Pro 13?
Do you think it's worth buying the new M1 chip with only 16gigs of RAM versus i7 with 32gigs of RAM. Having so much trouble figuring that out. so bummed they don't offer 32gigs of RAM with their M1 chip in their 13inch pro model. Would love any input!! Thanks
I will find out soon!
