Can you please enable subtitles again! 🙉Your last 5 or so videos haven't had any captions, not even auto captions. My gf is hard of hearing and we have both been MKBHD watchers for years, but she hasn't been able to watch any of your recent videos! 😭 This will probably get lost in the comments like hers did on the last few videos, but I have hope (maybe whoever is reading this will like it to get it more notice)

I have owned the MBA m1 base since it was released to the public for purchase. What intrigued me about the m1 version, is that I viewed the chipset as what is in their iPad and iPhone, both of those devices both are run by chips that are designed by Apple and both those devices run awesomely. Both of those devices operate so well and efficiently than I have in the past tried to use the iPad as my EDC but fell short because the apps for the iPad are not as full-featured as their desktop counterparts; So really the only thing missing was the waiting for Apple to finally release a laptop with their own chipset.
Since owning the MBA m1 base, I use the computer for everything from work to personal use. The Apple chipset runs everything more efficiently which allows me to have more apps and Chrome Windows open at a time that the device never gets bogged down or overheats when working on the MBA for long periods of time. I now do not have a reason anymore to own an iPad because my Mac just runs as efficiently if not better than the iPad. macOS, to me, feels more like it's more portable breatharian iOS.
For an everyday user like myself, the base model is now the way to go. It uses to be that the base model always left you guessing if you should have gone for the next tier up. For me, all those second questions are answered in a definite no.

I have been using the MBA M1 as my EDC device for work since the device was released to the public. The highlights for me about this device are 1) It's Fast. So to start off, I do not use the device for anything too labor-intensive. I primarily use Chrome and have about 11 tabs open, and the apps outside of Chrome I use are Microsoft and sometimes Polaar as my photo editor. 2) The memory management, when owning Intel-based laptops, the Ram would be enough but there would be more times where 8GB was not enough. The MBA M1 on the other hand, I never run out of space. The device always flutters around 4.5GB to maybe 5GB on occasion. 3) The MBA M1 feels like an iPad to me, I am not sure why, but I use it I feel like an iPad in how I use it. I rely more on apps than I do on the desktop itself. it's weird.
Now I may be wrong in how I have labeled things in this response but still after all this time owning it, the Device has not failed me and it runs crispier than the Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop 3, and the Surface Laptop Go. It is the first laptop that I have owned where I am definitely not bored with it. So in hine site, if you use a device like a Chromebook and only need Microsoft Apps, this is the best device for you.

Been using an M1 air 8gb since January for very heavy software development work. It’s a beast. Switched from Windows for this, absolutely no regrets. Love it.

@@kedirbirhan1591 Had some issues in the early days but it's smoothed out a lot. I don't think MySQL is still supported but Mariadb works which is a drop-in replacement.
I recently got a new laptop from work (maxxed out pro 16" from 2019) and the M1 just smokes it, doesn't get hot and maintains the same level of performance without any issues. Absolute dream machine.
100% recommend if you need one now, or wait until the new ones drop in November time.

I ordered the 2020 13 inch intell based MBP a week ago (2.0GHZ 10 gen i5 cpu, with 32 GB RAM, total price around 2k) and i am supposed to get it by today. Since I don’t have any development experience with the M1 MBP, i would love to hear your recommendation whether to go for the M1 right now or use what i have ordered. As I said, I am a backend developer hence i test a lot of open source software and wanted to make sure I won’t get my self into debugging nightmare. Thanks in advance🙏

Splendid and informative review! I’ve been using my 2013 MBP until the third quarter of 2021 because my motherboard has given up on me. Let me tell you, my entire MBP was untouched. The only replacement I made was my battery 2 years ago. Guess it’s the right time for me to get my hands on the M1 version. Plus, I’m an amateur content creator, this definitely a useful tool for me to use before I go pro.

My iPad Pro used to feel so powerful and cool. I got the m1 MacBook Pro, and now the iPad just seems so average - like iPadOS is not much compared to Big Sur: now I just use my iPad if I need to draw, like for math. A touchscreen MacBook (or at least stylus enabled like Apple Pencil) would be the ultimate notebook.
Unfortunately apple doesn't wanna give us that cuz then What's the point in peoplel buy the iPad ?

I went from a late 2011 macbook pro mainly using the adobe suite and app development to the M1 MacBook pro spec'ed up. I am very happy with it and I am really excited to see the further expansion of the M1 tech.

So just to recap, Apple screwed Intel with their M1 in Mac and AMD is humiliating Intel in Windows performance. This is the end of intel as we know it.
This is what happens when you don't innovate for far too long. The competition will catch up to chew on you.

No it isn't. People who think INTEL IS OVER are smooth-brained. Now that AMD's ahead Intel has plenty of wiggle room with pricing and what they can do to change how they put out new chipsets and CPUs in general. Intel was complacent, they're not stupid.

@@12pandemon I don't think Intel is over as well but they sure as hell ain't having a good time this year. They can still fill into AMD's old shoes and become the budget option that AMD used to be. Not to mention they also still sell other stuffs like network chips and SSDs. It's not yet over for them but their reputation is slowly going down and their 14nm++ chips aren't helping them either no matter how many + they add to it.

I've got the 16" MBP from 2019 and the MAIN drawback is those crazy load fans, but it does everything I need atm. Definitely looking forward to the 16" M1 reboot we'll see in 2021. Might consider jumping in then

I still use mine from 2013 all day every day with 8-12 apps open for 14-16 hours a day and it works fine. The display finally died the other day so I feel I need to buy this new one today instead of waiting for a mystery date for the new 16” M1

Probably not the camera moving, I expect he just zoomed in on the edit. When it's a solo content creator that's the way it's usually done, really simple to do push in/pull out zooms in software like Final Cut Pro or Premiere.
