  • Join me on an unforgettable journey to Kochi during the vibrant Onam festival! As I explored the city, I was surprised to find the markets closed, but that led me to a delightful discovery. I decided to try a traditional Onam meal served on a banana leaf at a local restaurant.
The flavors, colors, and textures of this feast were a sensory delight. From the aromatic rice to the delectable curries and the sweet treats, every bite was a revelation.
Join me as I savor this authentic culinary experience and share in the magic of Onam's rich traditions in the heart of Kochi.

@@bobchill5402 Rubbish. I have never seen muslims or xtians celebrate diwali, or dusshera or ganesh chatruthi etc.
Its only hindus who foolishly celebrate christmas.
Even during Onam, they celebrate by stripping Onam of all its Hindu identity or character. Hindumisia disguised as "secularism".
So Vishnu and Vamana is replaced by his Bhakt "MahaBali" who suddenly now becomes "king of kerala". Instead of celebrating the original Vamana Avatar jayanti, they have now replace it with a caricature of a Fat botbellied "king" who is supposed to "return" on that day.

    • @odomangulati7079

@@sriyajasmine5137 At least somebody gets it. Only Hindus have this special need to denigrate ourselves for approval of xtians, muslims and communists. This level of low self esteem and self respect is what people call "secularism". We craw when asked to bend. I am glad people are waking up.

Feel very sorry for your situation Phil but you managed it well and really loved watching the video. Couple of observations from this video that I would like to share (suggestions):
    1) Its okay to ask for a spoon and may be a fork instead of being uncomfortable while eating food because you come from a different culture where people use spoon and fork to eat certain food items which is perfectly alright, just like how people ask for a fork and spoon if they cannot eat the chinese food items like noodles and sticky rice in China using chop sticks which is again perfectly alright.
    2) Listening to the conversations you had with people in this video there is a lot of misunderstanding like the keralites were unable to understand your accent or english language in general and gave wrong answers because they couldn't either understand english or your accent, so next time if you feel the other person is unable to understand your question or if he doesn't speak the language you either get in touch with another person who understands and speaks english well or you use Google Translator.
    3) If you really wanted to eat your food with your hand then you shouldn't have listened to the gentleman who advised you to eat with your right hand as he does not know you are a lefty and you would not be disrespecting the food or the traditions in any way if you use your left hand, as anyone who is a right handed person cannot use his/her left hand for the purposes he/she uses his/her left hand for and vice versa.
Enjoy your stay in India. God Bless. 👍🙂

if your left handed, then you can use your left hand. Its not a rule for foreigners. In fact its a customary habit. Back in the day, people used one hand for cleaning , so they wouldn't contaminate their food, it then became a habit. it was hard watching you eat w the wrong hand. I wished someone said that you can use either hand, especially a foreigner cause that custom doesn't apply. oh well, next time. But yah, hey, did you try katcha morea, or pollicherry or yellow curd? that goes well with the rice.

Phil.. So sorry to watch you getting tortured. ;) Its like a painted stork served a delicious meal on a shallow plate. (he will see and smell, but not be able to taste it because of his long beak). But you are correct, it is about etqiquette and eating with the right hand is still often taught to small children even if you are left handed. You know the reason? The left hand is used to clean the oval office business (lol, you know what I mean?), hence it is prohibited to use for eating :D. ...BUT.....I'd say if you are lefty, eat with your left hand. Important is to enjoy the food.
And yes, come to Pune on 28th Sept, for Ganesh visarjan procession. It will be the biggest festival you will see on the streets. I think you will be overwhelmed and go crazy.

Onam is the festival that celebrates the birth of One of Vishu's Avatar called "Vamana" or "Drawf". You might know other avatars such as Sri. Krishna and Sri. Ram etc.
There are 71 MahaYuga (GreatAge) before the "End of Time" and we are in the 24th MahaYuga. Sri. Ram was in the 21st Yuga, and Krishna was in the 24th Yuga. Vamana was in the 7th MahaYuga. I mention this so that you get the time perspective. (Each MahaYuga is 4.3 MILLION Years)
Story is about the Asura king MahaBali (great Strength) who conquered two realms (Earth & "underworld") and wanted to conquer the 3rd realm of the Demi-Gods called "Sawrg" (Heaven). He was the grand son of one of Vishnu's greatest devotee, Asura King Prahalad. Vishnu took another Avatar called "Narasimham" (ManLion) to protect Prahalad.
Asura live in the "underworld", Humans/Manav live on Earth and Devta (demigod) live in "heaven".
MahaBali conducted a Huge Yagna (mistakenly called "sacrifice") to conquer heaven. So Vamana came there in the form of a Brahmin boy and begged for Alms. King MahaBali coul not say No and being a generous king granted him any wish of his choice without even asking him. But Vamana said he only wanted 3 feet of land in which he coul be cremated once he was dead and once grante that wish, Vamana grew into a "giant" who covered the whole cosmose and his 1 feet covered the earth, the other covered the "underworld" and when asked where to keep the promised 3rd step, the king offered his own head since that was the only thing left that he still owned. Pleased with this Vishnu blessed him eternal life as king of a doman known as "suta loka" and declared that in the next Yuga, he would be the king of Heaven i.e. the next Indra (king of demi god). MahaBali's only request was that he be allowed to visit once's every year to check up on his subjects and that wish too was granted. Though this visit happens during Mahalaya i.e. the day before Diwali, in recent times Kerala hindus also celebrates this during Onam.
