Thanks for the vid. I use amylase powder, really cold water, some ice cubes, nut milk bag and my vitamix and avoid the slime. Heat is what makes it slimy so adding the ice cubes and keeping the blades cool will cut back on slime. Also, amylase powder is an enzyme that breaks down the oats to make them less slimy. I don't soak or any of that but I'm sure that's what soaking does, breaks down the oats. I've been making different versions of oat milk for a while and this works best for me. YMMV.
I made it this way but it still came out slimy :( I tried a different recipe where you don't soak the oats and just use ice cold water and it came out much better!!!

I'm late to the oat milk party. I usually buy almond milk, just started using cashew milk. I thought, who in the heck is drinking oatmeal???? Oh......how wrong I was. Bought some in the store ($3.58) and used in a coffee recipe. Ran out of it and decided to use my store bought cashew milk. NOT THE SAME. Oat milk is a game changer. But the price???? So, I had a pound of organic oats just hanging out in the pantry and googled "how to make oat milk". Your recipe was the most straightforward. I added a pinch of salt, vanilla and stevia. OMG!!!! Never buying the crap in the stores again. Thank you so much!!!

Tried oat milk last month and it's pretty darn good but cant find it in the normal stores and dont want to spend what they want in specialty stores so I'll be making oat milk from now on, it's great for baking and fantastic in smoothies, I'll have to try this recipe before I try making cream gravy with it, now my next search is sour cream recipe also oat milk stays fresh for several months.
I usually strain the oatmilk with regular strainer like what we use to strain beans, and i also tried using nut milk bag. But i found out that it's more easier to strain it with regular strain..
The main reason people soak oats, nuts, grains, etc in water overnight before using them is because it helps drain the food of certain chemicals called “anti nutrients” that make the vitamins and minerals less easy to absorb and digest. So if you use the water with the anti nutrients in it, it defeats the purpose of soaking it to begin with.
Great video. Thanks! Just one question: why do we have to discard the water that was used to soak the oat? It looks like everybody discards it (when the oat is soaked previously, some times it goes directly to the blender). But I wonder if we are losing good nutrients discarding that water.
I tried it an mine didn't turn as nearly as white as that one, mine was like a pale yellow. I put 1L like she said and it was pretty "creamy" in an unpleasant way. I recommend putting more water
I’m lactose intolerant and I have been ignoring it and my stomach is getting worse so I’m finally cutting dairy. This is the only sub that tastes good! Thx so much
oat milk i get isnt as creamy as that but when i make it it so slimy the trick is to let it sit after blending and using nutmilk bag all the fiber will go to the bottom and u laddle off of the top
In the beginning you said that if you’re in a rush you can skip the soaking step as it’s not necessary. I’m curious as to what would the end result be if you don’t soak them and what is the benefit of soaking them before blending them. I’m really into the idea of oat-milk as an alternative to almond milk because it is so expensive.
It is STILL slimy & that's my problem with homemade oat milk. I did this a few times, tried to soak it more, blend it more, add more water. It is still slimy & you can see it in your video as well. I keep buying my local oat milk bc somehow there is no slime at ALL, yet it is still tasty & makes me full. That's quite pricey, though. *deep sigh*
Tips for NOT slimy oat milk: - Use only rolled oats - Don't soak them - Freeze them dry for an hour - Highspeed blend them for MAX 30 seconds in 1L of ice cold water - Pour it twice through a nut milk bag Tadaaa This video is utter bullshit. She does everything wrong, what she can. Oat milk gets slimy because of resting time in water and heat thrtough too much blending. Have the oats as short as possible in as cold water as possible and everything is fine. Or just do what in this video is told: ua-cam.com/video/MTt_Mlj6YN8/v-deo.html

Something I do to is I fill some ice cube trays and freeze as much as I want then after frozen I put in a freeze zip lock bags .Then when I want how ever much like a cube or two for my cereal let it thaw which only take a few min or so.
Lots of time I’ll add it in my already cooking oatmeal …..lol . I do that with my nut milks too , works great !
Oat milk is great! I actually tried a recipe on my channel for non slimy
oat milk. It is pretty amazing how easy it is to make at home and a LOT
cheaper too. Plus you get the added benefit of knowing exactly what you
put in your milk. :)
Thanks you saved me money I don't have to go to wholefoods anymore... I add coconut milk power to mine... but I use it for soap making & baking. Thanks
Love this! I also love the use of the pulp afterwards.. No waste.. Thank you!!👍👍
I LOVE HOW BRIGHT THE LIGHTING OF THIS VIDEO IS.
Along with the oatmeal recipe I also loved how you didn't discard the pulp but talked about ways to reuse it! Love such people ❤️
I like this thank you so much
I like the recipe and the instruction. The mix of music was too much in the forefront and was very hard to disce4rn what was being said. I love oat milk. Thank you.
best recipe that can be used with any nuts also is 1 cup (whatever type milk you want nut, oats etc) 3 cups water, blend 4 minutes, strain, use stuff in strainer as flour (dry in oven on low)
Considering the circumstances, I can't always buy oat milk and I feel quite guilty to just go outside for that. Making this at home is a great idea as Oats are dry foods and last really long I can buy more oats( of course not bulk buying I don't have the money for that lmao)and make milk whenever I run out.
I make it yesterday and i add some ground cinnamon and 0 calorie sweetener and it was fantastic taste!!
looks so nice, makes me feel happy :D
:D
This actually works! I had to add sugar to make it tasty but it worked. I used a pantyhose instead a nutmilk bag. At the moment we're broke and only have so less money and Gladly UA-cam recommended me this video. Quickoats and sugar are cheap and water is something everyone has at home.. Sadly My mixer died right after I was done with everything 😂🙁
I tried using warm water, and it became super slimy. I think I will try cold water overnight next time
Thanks for the vid. YMMV.
I made it this way but it still came out slimy :(
I tried a different recipe where you don't soak the oats and just use ice cold water and it came out much better!!!
Which recipe?
Mine came out slimy too I’m goin g to use a different recipe
@@ohnoqurl yes there is a recipe by Downshiftology or something. She uses icecold water and blends it only for 20 sec. This recipe will def make it slimy.
You can literally SEE the slime in this video.
add two or three seedless dates... the sweetness it adds is amazing!
I will try that
Do you use oat milk in oatmeal 🤔
Lol good idea
Did this once, but it didn't taste that good. To watery
I always do that, i also add some cacao powder and Müsli. It's good imo, perhaps bcs I'm crazy of anything made of oat.
Yes, I do.
Oatception
Wow, that looks so easy & delicious!
Never knew u could make milk with oats. Also never heard of an nut milk bag. Looks very handy. Better than cheese cloth maybe.
Today I went to the grocery store to buy my usual almond milk, i was about to grab a carton when boom there it was OAT MILK! i was like 😮 because firstly i am a big fan of oats and second I didn't know there was such a thing as oat milk even though I put them in my milkshakes so yeah I am so happy to replace the not so healthy carton almond milk for the supper healthy home made oat milk yeee👏👏👏 thank you!
Hazelnut milk?! Ohh my♡♡
Thanks . I've never had oat milk before 💕
Thank you so much! God bless
Yes I am going to be trying this😱 oats are much cheaper than most other things dairy free milk products are. What I am so trying this😄
Thank you going to try this for my nephew who is lactose intolerant
Amazing recipe. They always add oils and sugars. I am going to make this so I can add it to my coffee every morning.
This video changed my life
I'm lactose intolerant, so this is great for me. Watching from London UK.
Amazingly easily instructions and beautiful video. The perfect Diy video!! Thank you.
Hmmm, yummilisious ,it can b a base for several fruit based smoothies and off course it's super healthy ,at the same time safe for lactose intolerants
I cook my oatmeal in oatmilk, it oatception.
I usually strain the oatmilk with regular strainer like what we use to strain beans, and i also tried using nut milk bag. But i found out that it's more easier to strain it with regular strain..
Dont throw the water with the oats away. There vitamins in it! Use this as your water
Oskar Lucky i use it for diy sheet mask....😋
I was wondering the same thing! Why throw it away to then add more water 😬
@@katdbass Porque en el agua de remojo se quedan los antinutrientes.
Hay vitaminas pero también antinutrientes. Para usarlo en la piel es bueno, pero no tanto para beberlo.
This is great!!! I made it to test it out. This will save me sooo much money! I’m gonna buy a pack of oats and make more! Thanks 👍
I've never heard of oat milk. Something cool to try. Thank you for posting.
I'm Vegan and this video has helped me a LOT!
Great video. Thanks! Just one question: why do we have to discard the water that was used to soak the oat? It looks like everybody discards it (when the oat is soaked previously, some times it goes directly to the blender). But I wonder if we are losing good nutrients discarding that water.
I think it would make an excellent water to wash your face with, oat is known to be really good for skin. Nutritious + makes the water soft.
At least that was my first idea for it, I tried it and liked it.
It reducee the slim
Soaking removes a bunch of starch which gives a slimy texture. Rinse it out and you remove much of the starch.
Thx so much
Squeezing the nut milk bag looked so fun lol
You can also use the left over to make your own OAT MILK SOAP and use it as a FACE MASK applying directly to your skin or in your bath water.
Can you share how to make oatmeal cookies with the oatmeal pulp :)
oat milk i get isnt as creamy as that but when i make it it so slimy the trick is to let it sit after blending and using nutmilk bag all the fiber will go to the bottom and u laddle off of the top
The music making me feel like my phone is constantly going off in the background
Nice video though 👍🏼
Thankyou!
You indeed don't have to soak and drain the oats, but all these extra steps will make the oat milk much more smooth and easier to digest too.
If you dont soak it will be slimy
If you don't soak and keep the pulp its kinda gritty
How long can we keep this in the fridge?
im wondering if this can be frozen? like mybe in ice trays and then maybe take some cubes into my hot coffee ?
Me to??
Yes! Yum great idea!
I think this video is excellent, I like this type of videos because you learn something new, keep bringing this type of content
*deep sigh*
Tips for NOT slimy oat milk:
- Use only rolled oats
- Don't soak them
- Freeze them dry for an hour
- Highspeed blend them for MAX 30 seconds in 1L of ice cold water
- Pour it twice through a nut milk bag
Tadaaa
This video is utter bullshit.
WOOW I AM SO SUPPRISED THAT ITS SO EASY, I AM GOING AND DOING IT RIGHT NOW WOOW
Awesome day! What did you think?
Will quick oats work?
Thank you for this video 🙂👍All the healthy replacements are costly, but our health is our priority,so best to prepare at home .
A clean pillow case works in a pinch
Thanks for that tip!
