    Making homemade almond milk is so simple and affordable that it’s really unnecessary to buy it in the grocery store. It’s worth trying to make at home, at least once, so you understand the difference between homemade almond milk and shelf-stable almond milk from a carton. When you make almond milk at home, stripped down to its bare essentials (nuts and water), it becomes more than just almond water.

    Basically, this mean any type of "butter" like peanut butter, almond butter, any type of nut butter - they are all made the same way as peanut butter - can be used in a blender to make instant "nut" type milk. Instead of buying the expensive nut-milk in the supermarket, just buy the nut butter and add water, mix them and your drink is ready. Just look what type of nut-butter the supermarket provides to have the taste you want. Really inspiring :-)

    Here's what I did after Hurricane Ian when we had no electricity for almost a month and I don't have room to store boxes of shelf stable almond milk.
    I used a protein powder shaker, the one with the steel ball.
    For this method use almond butter that has no other ingredients, no salt no sugar or anything like that and also try to use creamy almond butter.
    First you need to stir the almond butter real good because it separates since it has no oils or anything like that added.
    I like mine a little bit stronger so I used 1 tbsp of almond butter + 3/4 cup to 1 cup water, put that in the protein shaker and shook the hell out of it for about several minutes.
    I also added a pinch of Himalayan pink salt, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract, a few stevia drops and 1/8 tsp xanthan gum.
    If you find it too gritty, shake just the water and almond butter first and then strain it through a fine mesh strainer, pour it back into the shaker and add any additional ingredients and shake a little more.

      Same with me. Almond butter wasn't even considered before this because the quality types are quite pricey. Using almond flour didn't occur to me until I looked around for coconut milk made from unsweetened coconut and water. I only need to glass or two on occasion and even the !liter cartons, once opened, go bad in a few days. I'd rather make a small amount as needed than toss out a half or quarter carton.

      Hi Wendy - I am so sorry! I forgot to update it. 1 cup of whole almonds yields ~ 1 1/4 cup of almond flour, so I would use that amount with 3-4 cups of water (depending on what you want to use the almond milk for). Since almond flour doesn't produce as creamy milk as whole almonds, I typically use 3 cups of water when using almond flour. For the almond butter version, I go with 1/4 cup of almond butter and 2-3 cups of water.

    Excellent video! I love how you explained evertything❤️ I have almond meal that has to be used. I went to your blog but I don't see a recipe for the almond meal method. Also if I want to add hemp seeds how much should I use?
    Or do you have a recipe for almond/hemp see or macadamia nuts/hemp seed?

    • @NutritionRefined
      @NutritionRefined  Рік тому +3

      I am so sorry for the late reply, Karen! By almond meal, I am assuming you have ground up almonds, not almond meal from almond pulp. If you have ground up almonds, you would use a bit more than when using whole almonds. So, instead of 1 cup of almonds to 4 cups of water, you would use 1 1/4 cups of ground almonds (almond meal) to 1 cup of water. If you're also adding hemp seeds, they will make the milk creamier, so depending on how much, you could scale down on the almond meal. Let me know if you have any questions :)

    • @KarenLeon457
      @KarenLeon457 Рік тому

      @@NutritionRefined thank for replying back. Ok, I'll use my almond meal, which I bought at the store but a recipe but didn't work out. About how much. Hemp seeds do you suggest? 2 tbsp?

    • @NutritionRefined
      @NutritionRefined  Рік тому +3

      @@KarenLeon457 The amount of hemp seeds is really up to you. You could make 100% hemp milk with just hemp hearts or do 50% hemp and 50% almond or if you just want to boost the protein content, go for 1 cup almond meal, 1/4 cup hemp hearts, and 4 cups of water. If you don't want to taste the hemp at all, just add a couple of tablespoons of hemp to 1 1/4 cups of almond meal and 4 cups of water.

    Can I use the same water used to soak the almonds, for the Milk? For not wasting some almonds nutrients in that water? or it Is not safe to do that?

    • @NutritionRefined
      @NutritionRefined  11 місяців тому

      A part of the reason why to soak almonds in water is that soaking releases tannins contained in the skin of the almonds. Tannins can cause almonds to taste bitter. When soaking almonds in water the tannins get released into the water. In addition, soaking almonds releases phytates as well as cyanide compounds which are not desired. So, drinking the almond soaked water will defeat the benefits of soaking the almonds.
