Loved your commentary on this story. I've never read any of the Solomon Kane stories. I've only ever read the Conan novels. I will have to give Solomon Kane a try. My "to be read" list keeps getting longer due to your videos!
Gosh, the descriptions are so dramatic and great! This is actually the only story I've read by Howard, outside of some of the Conan comics. I definitely need to read more, lol.
Have you read any of the Conam novels by authors other than Robert E Howard? I'm interested in trying some of them once I finish Robert E Howard's works
Your channel has been gold in terms of many many character studies. I am searching for something rather concise (I mean it respectfully if at all something like this can be done), on characters like Solomon Kane (and I know you got like 3 vids about him in connection to Howard too), Elric Of Melnibone, Conan The Barbarian and most importantly their powers. Maybe the question will sound a bit idiotic, but if you can, could you ever make a video just talking about some character powers and their capabilities and their trinkets perhaps (like you mentioned that Solomon's friend for example gave him a staff of magical powers right? etc etc).
_"Yes, I, you damned black swine!"_ Wrong story, I just wanted to type that. It sticks out to me as a very likely example of the kind of thing he might have shouted/acted out as he wrote.
Kinda sad you guys seems to have an obsession to see prejudice everywhere. I've always heard that Howard and HPL were "racists" on their stories (HPL really is on his personal life). But when I see for myself I think "is that it?". Look, I'm a South American, my country has quite an African heritage, so I think I can give my opinion. HPL doesn't use racism on his stories at all. And Howard have different characters, some characters are racist, some are fond of black people (narrator of "The Spirit of Tom Molineaux", for example). Even Kane himself show a lot of compassion toward enslaved Africans. Don't take it the bad. But I've seen people using it politically, even putting Deep Ones on a "social justice" perspective. Both refers to black people as "negro", this word was used at the time, wasn't a "bad word". So, let's not judge past things on this contemporary compass. This is wrong. Very wrong. Lovecraft would not like to have me on his city, I don't care. Still understand a very depressed guy suffering of social anxiety with retrograde ideas. We are above that, That's 21th century. We were supposed to throw these petty issues aside. Both men did more for me than the whole time in school.
HPL did have racism in his stories, just not as much as people commonly think. With Howard it’s different. There were absolutely stereotypical 1920s descriptions of Africans in Red Shadows. That cannot be denied. What’s interesting is how Solomon Kane’s attitudes towards Africans changes during the series. Certainly Africans are much more sympathetically portrayed as the series goes on and I think I covered that accurately in my series of videos. Howard certainly had some racist views, as was typical at that time. Pretty hard to escape that if you lived in 1920s Texas. That said he was far more sympathetic towards African Americans than was probably typical. He was dead set against the whole idea of “sundown towns”, for example.
Alright! Robert E Howard first thing in the morning. A great way to start your day.
Hello, my friend! Thanks once again for your excellent Robert E. Howard show!
Thanks for watching it!

Sorry to keep you so busy! Solomon Kane is well worth the time though. I really appreciate you watching!

There are so many great Howard stories!
Howard had a great ability to create ghostly and outwordly images or places in a few words. He had a touch seldom found in other writers. Great video!
I agree completely!
Fun!
A horror action story sounds wonderful 😄
It is!
Great episode. You looked very amused as you were discussing this one 😜. I am committed to reading some Robert E.
Howard this year.
Yes! That’s awesome!

Thanks for the idea!
@@michaelk.vaughan8617 sure man np and I do thank you!
Another great review. Do you think it's better to read the chapters in publication order, or it doens't really matter ?
Solomon Kane is one of the few characters whose stories take place chronologically, so it helps.
Going to review Black Caanan some time? It is one of my favorite REH stories in spite of the bad racial language and stereotypes.
I will be going over most of Howard’s horror stories after Conan.
