It’s time for a three-way AWD drag race!
That’s right, Mat’s got his hands on the new four-wheel-drive BMW M3 Competition, and he’s going up against two other AWD cars, the Tesla Model 3 Performance & the Audi RS5!
Does the BMW have what it takes to take down the opposition? Well, let’s check out the stats… It’s powered by the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as you’ll find in the RWD edition, and it’s got the same power output - 510hp & 650Nm. It’s a bit heavier, though, weighing in at 1,780kg.
Alongside Mat’s the Model 3 Performance, which is powered by a 75kWh battery pack & dual electric motors to deliver 460hp and 640Nm. It also tips the scales at 1,850kg. So sure, it’s a bit down on power, but will the ability to instantly put down the power help out?
Finally, we have the Audi RS5. It’s the least powerful car here, with its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 putting out 450hp & 600Nm. But it’s also the lightest, weighing in at 1,740kg.

At first I was a hater of new M3, mostly because of its price. After a few thinking processes, I eventually understood why it is priced that high. Almost M5 performace, daily usability, superb build quality and tech loadability. It really is incredible package.

we bought a Model 3 dual motor and it cost under US $60K when all was said and done. 8 months ago. And the fit is very good, the wind noise thing must be a hoax because the only you noise you hear is less than if you turn off your gas engine and coast. And while an old lady would be scared of a 500hp 8000rpm V8 and 6 speed, my other half (72) likes to floor her silent, 1 speed, new Model 3 and zip up to 60. When we coast home from Tahoe via hwy 88 we use 0 energy because of regenerative braking. (we use 30%+/-) going uphill, 90 miles.) car has 4000 miles on her in 7 months.

The current generation of BMW’s performance cars are just soooo bloody quick. More so than some of their power and torque outputs suggest is possible, as if they’re punching well above their weight. BMW M are really at the top of their performance game at the moment, even with EVs.

Yes good job, ofcourse the M3P has a setting for drifting called "Drift mode". Just like the "Track mode" for additional cooling and some other features.

Solid race and comparison. As a former f80 m3 owner very happy with how this new g80 m3 performs. It is a masterpiece of an engine although the front grill is still ehh. As a current model 3 performance owner very happy with the consistent 11.7 quarter mile. Much better race than the model 3 performance vs bmw i4 m50 where the model 3 ran a suspicious 12.0 quarter mile. Still would like a proper rerace of those 2 cars.
I run 11.3 and 11.4's in my M3P. The races carwow does are always way slower than what most owners actually get. Draggy app proves these results as well as Dragtimes drag slip times. The xDrive M3 is not quicker than the M3P in the 1/4 mile either. Carwow didn't even state the SoC of the M3P nor the year build.
@@taipoxin The M3P doesn't run 11.3 seconds without being gutted. Those are pure lies. They run 11.7, at best... with full charge.

The M3 is just so underrated HP wise... I'm amazed at my ability to keep up with my friends in Z06 Vettes, R8's and even Aventador when we doing roll races at the track. Its impressive out of the box. Ive seen a several tuned CompX cars running high 9sec quarter miles with only a tune/downpipes and a splash of e85. Just an impressive motor and drivetrain combo

I have always been a fan of BMW's straight 6. Its their signature engine.
@@C0lbyte Modern engine tech on Straight 6 engines perform extremely well. The mild hybrid AMG 53 also a 3.0L is an underrated beast. It's just a great size vs performance pacakge.
I think one just went 9.99 @ 139 with only a tune and some Ethanol, no mods otherwise. Wild.

That M3 engine is a masterpiece. Punching way above its weight.
BMW in the last few years have by far the best engines in pretty much every model range except the 1 series. Although they used to with the previous 140i :(

& this is just a bone stock M3! ECU tune with downpipes & they're running 10's in the 1/4 mile. RK Autowerks M3 with tune, downpipes, & race gas ran a 9.83..right behind a Tesla Plaid

Like with all big Changes in the Past, you kinda get used to it. I hated it when it was first shown, then i saw it a couple of Times in Person here in Germany and now i'm basically like "I prefer the smaller Grill, but the big one doesn't look too bad."
That said. Having a Front License Plate helps a lot make it less ugly, i know in some US States you don't need a Front License Plate and just like with Audi, the big BMW Grill would look horrible without Front License Plate.
Also speaking of Audi, when Audi switched from Normal sized Grill to Huge Grill, People had the same Reaction as to he big BMW Grill.
Now everyone got used to the gigantic Audi Grills (much larger than the BMW Grill btw.)
I haven't seen anyone complain about the gigantic Audi Grills in 10 Years, i believe it will be the same with BMW (if they stick to it)

You guys should start to pre-condition these teslas because you make them look a lot slower than they actually are. The pre-conditioning is more vital toward performance than battery SOC is. This car is capable of doing the 1/4 mile in 11.4s @118mph
Bruh u had to pre heat the battery before every run. Be in perfect conditions. Use lighter tires. Be at 98% or better charge. Too get an 11.5 quarter mile. Thats not legit. Stop lying under every video that it can do those times. Plus ur on a REAL TRACK SURFACE WITH BETTER GRIP its not a real street time. On a street in real life ur getting a 11.7 or wose everytime as shown in every single video I've seen

Honestly still a massive win for the Model 3.
Total cost of ownership is like half that of the M3, but it still keeps up unless you're on a long drag strip or the Autobahn.
So for 99.9% of the time the Tesla is going to pretty much see off most other cars. The bang for buck is unbelievable. I purchased one 3 months ago, to gain access to that sort of performance in anything else would cost more than double and the running costs would be very very high, and reliability perhaps somewhat spotty. I’m able to access close to supercar performance (within legal limits) for a fraction of the cost.

Teslas are just so plan jane and boring inside and out. The model 3 looks like a fat egg with outdated ugly headlights. It legit looks like a mall cop car with its shape and design😂 its interior is just as dull and boring as it's exterior. A single iPad and bulky steering wheel? BMW gives u luxury seats or carbon fiber bucket seats for sports cars, HUD, FSD+Auto Parking, crystal scroll wheels and buttons that feel good to click, sporty slim steering wheel that has good quality, etc.. teslas are cheap for a reason they cut corners on alot of shit and they are depreciating at an historic rate. Bad quality,alot of plastic,no HUD,no 360 cam, no ventailed seats or ambient lighting, no carbon fiber,etc.. They accelerate fast but look like basic traffic 😂 I rather have a cool looking car with luxury. BMWs are a real aggresive and mean looking sports cars with a head turning engine.

Audi way out of their depth now. Yes some may whinge it’s an older engine but come on if they had the ability they’d have updated it by now. Also the rs6 is newer than the m5 (boots on the other foot now) yet it gets anhilated by the M5

We all miss that era.
Braking distance was very impressive with the M3P! Probably due to better weight distribution = better traction both when accelerating and decelerating.
it's come in handy for me when driving, I'll say that. Definitely enough stopping power to throw you into your belt.
It probably always does so well because it uses the regen also to slow it down. That’s an advantage it has with the electric motor.
@@Cal3000 maybe? I feel like it has more to do with distribution / traction / brake size though. Sure the regen is there, but the car doesn't need that to lock the wheels up. It can do that on brakes alone. The key is maintaining traction while slowing down as fast as possible. That's how you get the best stopping distance. If they were in track mode they may have very well had regen turned off anyway.

Model 3 is sort of at a disadvantage. The cars here are both over $12,000 more expensive.
@@teslaadverts I would argue that $12,000 is worth the price hike in suspension improvements in the M3. The M3 will do laps around a model 3 on a real track. The model 3 is more of a comparison with the m340i which even that will do laps around it on a real track.

Yes but the RS5 is growing old. Few months ago they add some kind of 'track' package but not power increase.
Well where I live you go to the Audi dealer than you go to the BMW dealer and you see the difference. BMW dealer is full of great car, Audi has 2 or 3 at most.
And as far as I see BMW has a rotation of great cars (they sell what they have)!

I find it lame the RS5 had a V6, thats what the S4 is for. The RS5 has always had Audis top of the line engine, so this one one should have the TTV8.

M3 and Model 3 are similar cars in size and category but the pricing on them is very different. The M3 base trim ($70,000) is a lot more comparable to the Model 3 Performance in pricing, and even then, there is a gap of about $8,000.

Does the M3 have ceramic brakes ? I'm almost (still ticking some boxes) buying one, in touring X drive version, so I am definitely interested in the plus given by ceramic brakes
Ceramics on the road are not needed. Had them on a couple of cars and in the wet, they're not the greatest when you first apply the brakes after doing long runs on open roads.

I have the new RS3 and yes, it wipes the arse with almost everything on the road. got it checked on rollers, 422bhp, which explains the sub 3.5 secs to 60 it is doing. best audi on sale today

It's been dropped from the UK market again. They barely sold any. I've seen precisely two: one in the local Toyota dealership when they relaunched it a couple of years ago, and only one on the road.

No, coz it’s heavier. Matt has already done a race between the awd and rwd versions of this M3 generation and the rwd was faster on a rolling races so it will be obviously faster on a 1/4 as well

Normal m3 2wd is superior to the xdrive 2wd, since he tried to launch a M8 in both modes and in 2wd it would just not put power down nor have a proper launch control.

Just recently upgraded from a normal Model 3 to a Performance and the acceleration is INSANE also the drift settings in track mode make the car arguably the most fun daily driver on the road today.
10/10 would recommend to anyone especially since it's between £11,000 - £17,000 cheaper!
